WSU coach Mike Leach calls reporter a 'sanctimonious troll'

- After the Cougars' seventh Apple Cup loss in a row, Mike Leach's frustration with the result reached a boiling point following a question from a reporter.
The Huskies won with a 31-13 win.
The Spokesman Review's John Blanchette asked Leach if he was "not supposed to beat teams with higher-ranked recruiting classes," and Leach responded by lashing out, both at the question and at the perceived negative press he's received in the past.
"You know you run your mouth in your little column and stuff like some sanctimonious troll..." Leach said. "You're gonna write some nasty stuff anyway like you always do... you can live your little meager life in your little hole and write nasty things and if that makes you feel even you go right ahead."

I never was a WSU Cougar fan. However, I became a fan of Mike Leach, which made me a fan of his teams. He spoke the truth, even if it was unpopular, and made football interesting. He was an asset to college football that will not be replaced. RIP coach, you will be missed.

Sure enough, when you look this guy up (Blanchette), Leach’s characterization is spot-on.
I love that he tells it like it is with the same level headed approach he seems to have with everything. It adds a real sting to the slap in this guy’s face.
He will be missed. I'm still depressed he's gone and I wasn't a Miss St fan. But, I followed him since Tex Tech and loved his enthusiasm and the way he went about coaching. College FB died a little for me no kidding. RIP Mike.

who doesn't ? He is one of the best ever but has always been at the underdog school and turns them around.
I'm a Husky fan too. Coug fans are too worried about beating Huskies and many don't understand the value Leach has brought to WSU. He is the perfect coach for a school that has difficulty luring highly rated recruits. He get a lot out of his team. Maybe someday Leach will throw some wrinkles into his script against UW but until then they should enjoy the relevance he has given to the WSU program.

But, when one team beats him 7 years in a row, and publicly reveals its because Leach does the same thing every year, and Leach still doesn't change anything, that's on Leach. Instructors at WSU teach that there is something inherently bad and wrong with students based on their physical appearance categories. I contacted the Dean of Students Office about this and the Dean slammed the phone on me. I guess they don't want to talk about it. Instructors at WSU teach that some students are spiritually damaged according to how they look physically... how is that career relevant?

@@jjmurphree Mike Leach is a unique coach and person. It takes a different place for him and his system to fit in. The SEC is a big boys league. It is the toughest and hardest to win of any in college football. I hate to say this I think he should have stayed at WSU. I really, really like him and I think he is a very good coach. I have the utmost respect for him. I just don't know about Mississippi State. Is this the right team or is this the right team in the SEC? The SEC is really tough. Only time will tell.

@@PunkProfess0r The problem is twofold. One, you have reporters who ask questions designed to elicit an emotional response and generate a 'story". And two, you have coaches who take the bait, feel threatened because they are not in control and display none of the poise they expect from their players or courtesy that should be expected from everyone when answering.

What his track record has shown is that he can turn around woebegone programs and make them competitive ( TTU and WSU). His success cannot be overstated. He hasn't ever really made his past teams the best team in the conference, but he got Tech pretty darn close. The way he's done is is through talent equalization. His offensive system levels the talent playing field. His teams usually come up short due to defense. I think he will have the same type of success and results in the SEC.
