Agree. I remember as a 13-year-old, someone spray-painted a graffiti of “do bong hits” on the school wall and a concerned mom wrote to the paper that this could encourage students to do drugs.
It should have been removed, but I recall even at 13 thinking that if anyone was pushed into drug use by dumb graffiti, even at 13 they were either unbelievably stupid or teetering right on the edge already, and who would do that because they saw one graffiti?
And I wondered if adults forget what they were like in their mid-teens, and that they aren’t 6 year olds.

Yes, he may be entitled to inheritance from grandparents, but only those assets separate and before the murders. The civil court would have to parse those out. Even then, the grandparents would need specific language about their knowledge of the crime and to specify their intent to still leave him money. Not only that, but only the portion originally intended to go to him and excluding that of his parents and siblings.

In the UK: anyone under 16 years old has to be represented with an appropriate adult. It can be a parent, friend or volunteer. They are in the room during any questioning by the police and help ensure that the child’s rights are protected.
Believe me, criminals need to taken to task and suffer the consequences of their crimes through the justice system. However, I always felt it more than appropriate that such a system is in place in the UK. If anything it ensures that any “misunderstandings”, from either side, may occur and thus limit false or coerced confessions. Furthermore, it can be argued: if someone’s to young to legally agree to a contract and is thus considered to young to take such responsibility, they may be too young to understand the ramifications of the proceedings and their rights.

To the point that they can easily delude themselves to think they didn't do a thing. Meanwhile, evidence is here, there and everywhere to prove that they're nuts and bolts. You see and hear this kind of stuff from folk on the internet all the time! As certain folk will literally believe that everyone will not only see things from their perspective, but some how strangely, live, think and operate in the same manner that they operate. It's like everyone is attached and operating from their poor psychology. To even say that you love your family, yet you are silent when it comes to explaining why you killed them is (boy!!! if you don't sit your ass down on the floor somewhere). Nothing with these types ever add up!!! They just cut and paste behaviors and thinking, with the belief that it will produce whatever they've fantasized. This sort of event happens with some regularity with people in their teens.
And I say "in their teens" , because people who are older, who are no longer officially under the control of the parents, who CAN walk away, and get a crappy job and crappy place to live. are NOT in the same circumstances. (Grant Amato, Chandler Halderson)
    But teens are stuck.
They have no control, no power. If they are incredibly unhappy at home, for good or for bad reasons, their options are limited.
    - run away. That usually leads to having to live by selling sex and/or drugs. It's horrible.
    - in some states if a young person has enough behaviour problems in their own home, the DCFS might put them into a group home for kids with advanced and serious behavioural problems. But that's not that usual. It's also pretty grim. Many parents, especially very controlling ones, don't involve the state, they just screw down further.
    - suicide
This is one of the most common reasons for children killing themselves. A feeling that what is happening to them in their home is so untenable and they don't know any way out. (just to be clear, I'm not saying that was the case here. Though the father sounds much too authoritarian, and clearly too interested in guns without taking anything CLOSE to the proper caution and attention that they require. So, not very rule oriented for HIMSELF.)
Several of the cases of this that have occurred in the past decades, though not all, the families have been very controlling, and the child in question is not "meeting the standard expected".
The truth is, not all children ARE going to meet the standard their parents expect.
Some are going to run around and party too much. Both my siblings behaved appallingly (by most parents' standards) when they were in their teens. One is now working in a senior position in a government department that, how to put this, did a whole lot of specialized work after 9/11 and for the next decade or so. The other became a senior international banker.
My parents just focused on keeping them SAFE. They didn't demand total compliance.
They didn't demand much apart from letting them know where they were and never doing anything that could harm anyone.
They sorted themselves out after they got The Wild out of their systems.
There are also kids who just aren't going to be super at anything. They might just have a job at CVS. That's fine. That's more than fine. But if they come from a family of super achievers and super demanders, the constant disappointment and pressure from their parents can be more than they can handle.
The ones who can't handle it, it often leads to suicide.
The ones with a sociopathic streak....it goes a different direction.
There is a reason that Classical Greek Tragic Drama focused on the horrors that go on within families. Because that is where it is always found.

      @MuzakFavo 4 місяці тому +1

I’m not so sure he was “stuck”. I am not convinced he was abused in any way by his father. He was probably just parented as he should have been, and he was too entitled to accept any boundries when behaving badly. Also, why did he kill his mother and siblings who supposedly also had to be abused like him? Kill then instead of saving them? It doesn’t make sense. He’s a psychopath that’s all. It’s utterly frightening that he may get out of jail rather soon. RIP his family. 💔

    • @greenman6141
      @greenman6141 4 місяці тому +2

@@MuzakFavo I do think he is likely a sociopath, which is why I wrote that comment at the end .
But I disagree about his father not being controlling. All that business about doing some boy scout level or something.
His father was demanding he do it. The kid wasn't interested in it. But the father was making a huge deal out of it. (Caveat here: This is all assuming that what the teen was saying was true. And there is almost no reason to believe anything he says.)
That is a ridiculous thing to make a point of contention with your child. It is so unimportant. It demonstrates the father simply wanting the son to submit to his power. Which is a really stupid way of parenting, and is beyond stupid when it is over something so meaningless.
If a parent gets into a struggle with a child over doing or not doing things, it is only correct to do that over subjects that MATTER. That matter for the safety and future well being of the child, and/or other people.
And, again, ANY parent who makes it possible for children to get their hands on guns, is also a failure of a parent.
It is incredibly that he made such a hoo haw about some boy scout stuff, but didn't secure his own weapons.
The killing all the members of the family...that does seem to be playbook for the sociopath's way of "handling" the conflict That is what we see in these cases time and again.
Returning to the caveat from above.
Everything about the boy scout business comes from what the killer said. So there is a huge chance that it is all lies. Which means everything I wrote is nonsense.
Except for the killer being able to get access to guns.
And he DEFINATELY lied about THAT. He said his father left a gun out,. But the police found the key to the gun locker hidden under his mattress. Which indicates he's acquired the key, but needed this to be secret.
So like as not, I've written a screed which is all based on manipulative lies and is, therefore, meaningless.

I honestly don't care what you think. Our countries are completely different. You think we are crazy gun toting psychopaths. I know the crazy stereotypes you have in your head. I have heard these comments over and over since the internet had comment sections. You live in a Country of 60 million people that is the size of one of our medium sized states. You all mostly live in urban areas crammed in like rats and the wealthy people own most of your land. We are a country of 300 million with 50 states and some are 4 times the size of the UK. There are million of Americans raised in rural areas. We are brought up with guns in the house. My father hunted his entire life. There were always 20 different types of hunting guns in a gun safe. I was not allowed to touch them until I took hunters safety. I had to show I could be safe. My father made me carry a gun uploaded when I went hunting with him. He would not load it until I showed I could carry if safely and respect what it means. We are a country of people that love the right that we can defend our self if someone attacks us or family. Psychopaths, mentally ill people and bad people in general do not follow the law. They will always exist. We know about all the knife crime in the UK. Your have the right to let your self be killed and not defend yourself. That doesn't mean your views on our culture will ever effect us. You grew up without guns and always hearing how bad they are and how crazy Americans are with guns. I grew knowing nothing about the UK. I loved Brit comedy, but that is as far as it went. I remember the first time getting online in comment sections. Hearing about how you hear insane things and believe them about us. I remember playing xbox live and many people from the UK singing a song when 911 happend. Wheres ya towers at now and they sand and laughed. I was horrified by this behavior. I would never wish any harm on anyone and if tragedy happened would be empathetic. You hear what .00001% of the population do that are bad. 300 million people in a huge area with ever climate. Many of us live in rural areas where we can own our on land, house, and many other things. My father grew up a poor share cropper that actually hunted for food on the table. They got out of school to help with harvest ever year. We have gone from men like that to pansy wussies in a such a short time. Even your grandfather would probably cringe at modern life. I know it may be hard for you to understand, but it is our culture. Mentally ill people, terrorist, and psycpaths don't follow the law. If you gathered every gun they would still kill people. If you want to stroke the cheek of someone one who attacks you and tell them you understand... by all means I respect your right. I really don't want to hear anything that I have the right to defend myself and family. Or if i want to legally hunt. It is our culture. How long do you think your lifestyle has been around. Men that act like they are not men.

I am American and believe in our 2nd amendment but I also don't think today's parents are properly educating their kids about gun safety and keeping them safely locked up. As a retired LEO with years of personal experience, walking in and seeing a suspect "sleeping" as they wait, is almost always a sign of guilt. I say that in all seriousness. There are exceptions to everything but the few exceptions are just that, a few exceptions. So many lives were wasted in this particular case and the fact that the mom and brothers were also killed just feels like a greedy attempt to reap all of the money and assets his family may have had, allowing the murderer to be "set for life" in his mind.

And don’t know the details of this case well, but many use the “possibility of parole” to get criminals to plead guilty, thereby avoiding the risk of some weird outcome from the jury, plus avoids dragging family through a lengthy trial, appeal, etc. And others said that may have happened here.

Here in the UK this suspect would not be permitted to be interviewed without an appropriate adult, either an adult relative or someone from a relevant organisation. In addition the police would insist he had a solicitor present regardless of age due to the seriousness of the offence to protect them and the suspect.

This kid will grow up one day & find himself alone in a very cold world , his brain is not even capable of comprehending the enormity if what he has done.
