Johnny Rivers is an incredible and highly underrated artist.
Probably THE most underrated of all the artist of the 50's 60's 70's and 80's
Loved his songs
absolutely, it's a crime he isn't in the rock and roll hall of fame.
@@Hobodeluxe960 I had no idea he wasn't in the rock and roll hall of fame that's ridiculous
He made millions and millions of $$. If you really think about it, he didn't write the songs or arrange them, he is not a good guitar player and used mostly the so called "wrecking crew" on all of his recordings and isn't a great singer but made millions. He had great material, great musicians and background singers on his records, great marketing, great producers, good looking (still) and an okay live performance. After travelling with him in the 70s as a roadie, I can say you'd never think he would be under rated. Sold out every show in every city.
Johnny Rivers was so great but under appreciated. So many great songs.
His great style didn't allow him to get out of the '60s.
Yes he discovered the fifth dimension Jimmy Webb Al Wilson and had his own record label soul city records very industrious man. Plus he’s Italian !!! 👍
MANY !!!
As a producer he made hundreds of artists popular.
@@EJ-tm1fe To agree he didn't get out of the 60's, I'd have to forget about charting releases like 1) "Rockin' Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu" (1972), 2) "Blue Suede Shoes" (1973), 3) "Help Me Rhonda" with Brian Wilson singing backing vocals (1975), 4) "Swayin' to the Music (Slow Dancing)" (1977), and 5) "Curious Mind (Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um)" (1977). Moreover, his (admittedly 60's) version of "Midnight Special" was used as the theme song for the Friday, late night, music/variety series of the same name. That series ran through most of the 70's into the early 80's.
This young lady's reactions to authentic love songs are priceless. She's like a kid in a candy store. Enjoy young lady, enjoy.
I always thought Johnny Rivers should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Seens at the time he was Brigitte Bardot''s favorite american singer, not that important ,just a little trivia,
Nah, there are so many deserving artist's who should be in the R&R Hall of Fame but are not. Johnny Rivers is in good enough company by not being in that institutionalized place.
The Rock N ROll HOF doesn't seem to like Rock N Roll.
ua-cam.com/video/z0G0ME_xA-c/v-deo.html
I think he should have been too! He was so darn good
"Poor Side Of Town" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Wow! What a song! Johnny Rivers is a dynamite talent. He's an incredible artist.
"Poor Side of Town" Nice for songs the históri for my Guy, Girl
SECRET AGENT MAN ....we all loved that song back in the day
Absolutely
As the kids would say today, "What a Bop!" LOL! I rarely got up and danced to a song, but I couldn't help myself when Secret Agent Man came on the radio.
Yes!!!
I love this one. In fact, I play it on my guitar all the time. Highly recommended!
Johnny Rivers - Swayin To The Music
One of my favorite songs of the 70s.
Johnny Rivers was also one of the members of the blue eyed soul singer club. And I agree, you should hear slow dancing by him.
Yes India, you must react to this song! You will love it!
JUKEBOXZERO One of myf@vorites by Rivers!
"Baby I need your lovin" and "Summer Rain".
Yes, both.
"She stepped out of the rainbow
Golden hair shinin' like moon glow
Warm lips soft as a soul
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me
All summer long we spent dancin' in the sand
And the jukebox kept on playin'
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
YES!!!
Don't forget "Slow Dancin'".
@@skiggy007 "...just me and my...my, my, my girl..."
I was born in 1960 and when I heard this I was 6 years old and I fell in love with this song. Things back then were so square and simple and clean and innocent. Thanks for playing this. Memories are hard to let go when they are so awesome like this song .
mountain of love johnny rivers
Great....
seventh son . summer rain johnny rivers
Seventh son is a favorite especially since, I am a seventh son.
Mountain of Love by Johnny Rivers. His best time.
Backup vocals by The Blossoms with Darlene Love. Backup instrumentals courtesy of The Wrecking Crew. Wonderful collaboration with Johnny Rivers!
The wrecking crew were awesome ! Played on so many hits.
Wow.
Thanks for dropping the knowledge, Kevin. I would have had no Idea who that was if not for you. Darlene Love was a key player in the Phil Spectre, girl group era. Well done
The Blossom's vocals enrich this song so much. If the strings are authentic, (and not a mellatron) then this had some deep production quality.
REMMY MAFIA...Definitely authentic. Every song that were big hits thanks in large part to the Wrecking Crew in the 60's was a major production of top quality. Check out Wrecking Crew on You Tube sometime.
I love the females singing in the background. It really adds an ethereal feel to the song. JOHNNY RIVERS is so under-appreciated.
That's Darlene Love and The Blossoms
They are totally awesome. I have said before the back round singers out do Johnny and Johnny is great.
I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the 60s. My wife and I went down for my high school's 50 yr reunion in 2019. I heard that Johnny was appearing at one of the casinos on a leg of his last live concert tour that weekend and ordered tickets.
The man's voice did not seem to have changed all that much. I am so glad to have had the chance to see him. When he started this song, my wife started to cry and laid her head on my shoulder. We had just celebrated our 47th anniversary a couple of weeks before.
Money well spent. Great weekend.
Memphis Tennessee: Johnny Rivers
I agree, and while it was a Chuck Berry tune, R.I.P ATG, I like Rivers version a bit better. I'll probably catch hell for that lol
A heartbreaker for any man who's been through it.
Rivers was born in NYC.
@@Coolrockndad it's about the song Memphis Tn...Not his birthplace
@@bigEratt I know that but wanted to post the fact that he was born in NYC.
This is such a great example of a song and arrangement so evocative of an era where the air was fresher, everyone was young and a bright future seemed to stretch before us to the horizon and beyond!
In spite of Vietnam, our leaders getting assassinated...and yet...
Yes indeed. The same goes for Glen Campbell's Wichita Lineman. My Jazz loving Dad's favorite
country song. My favorite personal favorite, Everyday Housewife from Glen. I do remember the days Vince!
@@donnav7103 Yes - Wichita Lineman another great example! Also Come and Get These Memories by Martha and the Vandellas! Music let you breathe in those days!
@@Zebred2001 Yes, those are the toe tapping songs from back then. You could not sit still during those song. My favorite was Marvin and Tammy, a match made in
heaven!
@@donnav7103 Ain't No Mountain High Enough is one of my all-time favorite pop tunes!
Makes you tear up dont it India? Im as old as this song. Its woven into the fabric of me. Johnny is still playing!
I get tingles all over. Love Johnny love this song!
This is one of my favorites by Johnny. Another one is “Mountain of Love”.
He’s one of the best that’s ever been, words mean much, he’s got the smarts and ability, hall of FAME, YES🤩🤩😎🤟🏼
So very true Bobby 👏🏻🌟🎤🎸🥰‼️
Yes! My favorite song by him of all time! I also like Secret Agent Man.
Am totally in love with all his music, and him.... sends chills up my spine
I'm so glad to have lived to hear this music growing up and be able watch Rock Music evolve. Today I realize there's no substitute for a great melody.
Great song. Those backup singers are perfect!
He had most of his hits in the 60's but he hit it big again in the late 70's with a song called "Slow Dancing swaying to the music"
I remember a hit early 70's called "BOOGIE WOOGIE FLU" !!!
Saw him live 4 years ago Blew me away how awesome he still sounds and his backing band was incredible. Would love to see him again!
I Wish he would perform in Montreal!
This song is always on my set list. Johnny Rivers is an amazing artist, and contributed greatly to the American sound of the late 60's and 70's. Friends of mine who know him personally tell me he was always a perfect gentleman. Although a country boy from Lousiana, he made his way to Los Angeles and became leader of the house band at Gazarri's on the Sunset Strip, which was the first real rock club on the west coast. And we have him to thank for introducing Jimmy Web to Capitol Records, who used that material to bring Glen Campbell to international stardom. A seminal artist, I really love his work !
Baby I need your lovin is a good one by him
“Baby I need your lovin’ GOT to have all your lovin”!
Johnny has a large catalogue of hits, and if you loved this, you'll love his others.
slow dancin', swayin' to the music & rockin' pneumonia
As many hits as he had, I still personally find Johnny to be an underrated artist. Definitely deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “Poor Side of Town” was a #1 hit for him back in 1966. I would definitely check out his rendition of “Tracks of My Tears” or “Baby, I Need Your Lovin’ “ next.
This is one great haunting song. It reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the RPM Canadian Chart in November 1966. Another good song by Johnny, among many, is "Summer Rain".
Gary Puckett and The Union Gap "Young Girl" "This Girl Is A Woman Now" "Woman"
And lady willpower
"Over You" is great too!
Johnny rivers will be 80 this year and has been fortunate enough to keep his beautiful voice!! Sounds the same today as he once did. So has Randy Owen from Alabama. I’d love to hear Rockin Pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu from Johnny Rivers. It’s so good!
I was definitely in lust with Johnny Rivers
Let's not forget a phenomenal guitarist. He has so much emotion when he plays! Check out some of his later shows on UA-cam there awsome.
Love Johnny Rivers's songs.....love this one.
Johnny Rivers, Secret Agent Man
Johnny Rivers, Summer Rain
Yeah! I thought of the same ones! I hope she does them.
YES Summer Rain! Also Seventh Son is awesome.
SECRET AGENT MAN IS ON THE WAY!!!
@@OhMyGoshIndia I have to say I love the music you pick. I love your reactions, and in all honesty I think you would be a good friend. You seem to have a great heart. Bless you.
@@sueh273 Yeah I forgot about the seventh son. Great song
This song came out when I was 6 years old. I have never got tired of this song. I play it on my huge home stereo couple times a week. I am a touring guitarist and performer with label bands..everyone I know is awesome crazy about this song. it hits your heart and soul very hard..well put together and very well sung . The back up vocals are priceless and the musicians are as well. This song should be in a hall of fame by its self. I love your reactions to this song.i could tell it gave you heart felt joy..thanks for posting this . It's a awesome song. !
Sammy, that is just an awesome comment to hear. So cool that as a touring musician you put your stamp of approval on it. You are right, everyone loves this song!
I adored your reaction to this song, he is fantastic. He has so many hits that are beautiful. My favorite is Summer rain.
First time viewing this young woman, and her reactions to certain old school song. I really think she gets it- kudos to her for actually absorbing the content of the lyrics. Encouraging for me, in regards to the current generation.
I still do this song at shows and it hits every single time, even to younger people who never heard it before. You can see it in their eyes. They get inside the song. It's universal. Love and loss. You and me against a cold world.
Johnny Rivers was only 16 yrs old when he co wrote Poor Side Of Town with Lou Adler and recorded it. With the money he made from it..he bought his parents a new house. It has and will forever be my favorite song. Reminds me of a preteen , not a care in the world..chasing Fireflies and hanging out at the street light at night and a teen Angel . If life had a rewind button, I'd hit it hard. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I love Elvis and Johnny Rivers is right beside him.
Saw him and met him in 71. One of my all time faves.
I am 65 and remember this song from being a youngster so long ago. Thank You I forgot the artist so long ago but now have downloaded some of his music I like.
The great JOHNNY RIVERS! What a talent!
he was a crush of mine! I still love hearing him sing.
You sparked a "oh, I haven't heard that song in a long time" moment, India. Thanks so much ..... I'm gonna enjoy the rest of my day. Take care and be well.... Peace.
Rivers was an excellent artists even making hits into the mid 1970’s. He ha a great voice. You will like other songs by him!
Johnny is incredible - love his Seventh Son, Hey Joe, Baby I Need Your Lovin, Memphis , Maybelline, Rockin Pneumonia - just so many - vastly underrated
"Summer rain" is my favorite
Johnny Rivers was a superstar back in the day. I don't think he ever had a song that wasn't a hit. Ballads, upbeat, bluesy...you will love listening to his songs India!!
Awesome talent, highly under appreciated talent! One of my favorite voices of the 60’s! Still to this day have original vinyl of this guy! Many great tunes.
If you focus also on the back ground vocals of The Blossems , Their harmony is awesome and when they take the lead vocals they carry it very very well. They are a big part of the success of this song.
Singing backup - Darlene Love and The Blossoms. She sang He's a Rebel, Christmas Baby Please Come Home and much more for Phil Specter and others. She was also Trish Murtaugh (Danny Glover's wife) in the Lethal Weapon Movies.
The fabulous Johnny Rivers is one of a kind! Keep digging...
Johnny Rivers was so great! He wasn't a one hit wonder, he had a bunch of hits. India, thanks for bringing this back to us!
This was a #1 single in 1967. Johnny Ramistella is from Baton Rouge, La., my home town. We are the same age, 80 now, and back in Junior High school I occasionally heard a couple of guys playing for change on one of the main downtown street corners in Baton Rouge. One of them was, I learned, Johnny Ramistella. Being a musician all my life, I listened and liked what I heard. Simply raw, unpolished talent. I forgot about him and went on with my life.Years later I found myself listening to and loving the big hits of a guy who calls himself Johnny Rivers. One and the same.
I am loving you and your channel, you've seriously opened up my mind to a lot of music recently...I've realised what a music snob I've always been, thinking (innexception to Michael Jackson & Jackson 5) I always thought old music was bad cos it was slow and old...but man...I have seriously come to a much better appreciated for peoples lyrics and the soul in and strength of their voices thanks to these reaction videos. Its great! Thank you for doing what you do and keeping me entertained and my play lists filled with new, old stuff! 🤣
One of Johnny’s best songs. Always brings a tear to my eye. He was a magnificent talent!
ME TOO!! LOVE THIS SONG!!

He walked up to me years ago while I was playing one of his songs. He was very cool. A truly great artist.
I haven't heard this song since my pre-teens way back when. Great reaction!!
If you love this song by Johnny Rivers, you will really love "Swaying To The Music (Slow Dancing)." I put it on a loop when I need a quiet, beautiful, romantic escape. Thank you again for sharing your musical journey. You rock!
That song might live in your head rent free for awhile.
I don’t know who is more awesome and incredible Johnny Rivers or India. India you are too damn beautiful and adorable for words How much ?
Back when musicians had singing, arranging and composing talent and were proud to produce emotive music snd lyrics. So glad you have discovered.
Always liked that song.
Johnny Rivers could sing anything India. All through the 60s to the early 70s . My dad could sing n play anything he started 9 years old. My grandma bought him a guitar and good thing . It kept him out of trouble. N he loved music ESPECIALLY country n blues.
Real love song, real music, real artist, real talent, sang from the heart, no computers.
I always liked this song. He had so many great songs with a variety of topics/styles.
Possibly the best background vocal performance ever in a hit song. I love this song, always have. Great react India.
He's had so many hits that it's hard to pick one. "Mountain of Love" and "Summer Rain" are great.
One of my favorite songs of all time...especially when it first came out. Johnny Rivers was not only a great performer but also a smart producer. He created Soul City Records and signed the Fifth Dimension. Best songs: Secret Agent, Memphis, Summer Rain, Mountain of Love, Seventh Son and a cover of the Four Tops' Baby, I Need Your Loving.
love the fifth dimension
Quite a few of his Bsides on 45's became hits.
I haven't heard this in a long time - great song.
Mountain of love summer rain slow dancing just a fewof of my favourites from the great Johnny rivers
Really great singer this is one of my favorites by him..and slow dancing is a good one..
OMG Johnny Rivers was SO talented and had such a GREAT, unique voice. Here's some more great ones by Johnny: "Seventh Son", "Memphis, Tennessee", "Baby I Need Your Lovin'", "Mountain of Love", "Slow Dancing Swaying to the Music", "Maybelline" and more!!

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to was Johnny Rivers at a small club in Hollywood many many years ago. I was standing like 5 feet from the stage. He was absolutely awesome!
Always remember listening to this on the oldies station growing up in Portland, Oregon. Such a sweet, pleasant way to spend a few minutes listening.
One of the all time greats!
Why do I cry watching these videos? It’s like watching someone get an amazing gift that they didn’t even know they wanted.
"Summer Rain," written and performed in 1968 (actually late November 67), about the summer of 1967.
I was 10-12 years old then but that song made me feel like I'd seen years and years.
Hi, I'm 67 listening to music 60 years and have much music experience. Johnny is so underated, in the same class as Bill Medley of Righteous Brothers. I'd appreciate reviewing his song MOUNTAIN OF LOVE, Won't be disappointed. Thank you
Listening to this song by Johnny Rivers from 1966, makes one appreciate the fantastic production he had on his songs- great arrangement. (strings/back vocals)
Had to listen to your reaction to Johnny Rivers’ “Poor Side of Town”’, again. I listened to a few other reactions and interpretations of the same song but they didn’t get the depth of this song like you did. It’s why so many people love it. You explained it so beautifully. It was about his love! Thank you India.
I googled a recent photo of him; so handsome with piercing blue eyes; so so talented.
Johnny Rivers Realization album is still one of my all time favorite albums❤️❤️❤️
This was the supposed time of innocence where we talked about makng it to First base! Slow dancing and boys crossing the dance floor; some confidently and others nervous . . . and the sad wallflowers ~
Legendary session singer Darlene Love on backing vocals with the Blossoms . Great song and awesome, true, honest ,lyrics. Johnny Rivers is flat out wonderful .An A plus classic.
Amen to the talents of Johnny Rivers
He is still touring today in the USA at the age of i believe 78. I played in a couple of local bands in my country of Canada in 68/69 He does his hit songs the exact same way. He should be in the hall of fame.
Performing and recoding for over 60 years Johnny Rivers still puts on a great show. Bob Dylan said that of the over 25,000 recordings of his songs Johnny Rivers’ version of Positively 4th Street was his favorite. He listened to it over and over. Praise doesn’t get better than that.
From that long ago Fall, of '66 -----------# 1 all over the world. ----------Those are The Blossoms backing Johnny here. -----------written by Johnny & Lou Adler, his producer. Orchestrated by Marty Paich. -----------many, many memories with this song !! ------------------MJL, 75 y/o
One of my favorite singers for over 50 years, and still msking music. Glad you hear what makes him so special.
Check out I've Got The Rocking Pneumonia And The Boogie Woogie Flu. Great song by him.
I love Love Johnny Rivers, that voice and his musical arrangements. I remember when that song came out when I was in high school. He was my first real heart breaker singer/song writer. That song still brings me to tears whenever I hear it, so much going on. I loved your interpretation, you totally get what this song is all about. He wrote it and I believe it was his first big hit. Glad you love him too “ Tracks of my Tears” also gets you right in your guts and heart too and his version of “Baby I Need Your Loving” … forget about it, no words to describe, just listen if you have not already. Thank you !
I WAS 12 IN 63 and 71 now. Still love the sounds of the 60s with Johnny Rivers
I grew up on Johnny Rivers. In the 60's one of my grandmothers cousins owned a bar/restaurant in South Louisiana. During the early part of the day before it was open my sister and I along with his granddaughter would play Johnny Rivers on the jukebox and dance in our socks all over the wooden dance floor. There are some great songs for you to check out!
React to his version of Baby I Need Your Lovin'.
Mountain of love was one of his best. He has so many great songs it’s hard to chose one.
India, Thank you so much for playing that song. One of my favorites. Bless you, take care. 7-23-2021
Wonderful song!! I also love Summer Rain. 👍👍
Loved your reaction. The message of this song is so great. That poor man or poor girl is probably the truest love you will ever find in life !
The people of today are so Artificial !!! These great classics show real class and will stand the test of time !!!
