    One thing about Quelana saying her sisters are "in pain". Though she may be simply manipulating you (hell, pretty much everyone in the game is trying to do that so it'd be par for the course) she may actually believe that. If you were a human, or at least you were a normal creature, and you witnessed your closest relatives transformed into horrifying abominations that seem to writhe almost mindlessly, and be beings of pure instinct and chaotic rage don't you think you might come to see that as "wrong", a horrifying fate that you might even consider "painful" since they were at one time not just logical, thinking "normal" creatures, but the absolute pinnacle of intelligence. I can see how as the last remaining normal individual you could look at that fate and consider it painful in the sense that they've been radically transformed to almost the polar opposite of what they once were, rather than using painful in the sense of being in actual pain.
    Just a thought.

      Look at Ceaseless discharge. You don't call that painful? His lore bro... really?

    • @Goldenkitten1
      @Goldenkitten1 9 років тому

      Ace Hughj Of course. But I was referring to some of the others whose pain isn't so obvious, or who don't appear to be in pain at all. That there's more than just physical pain.

      +Goldenkitten1 I definitely don't think she's trying to manipulate you; she might be one of the few characters in the game who isn't. The Fair Lady certainly is in pain (as is Ceaseless), and there's an argument to be made about her mother and other sisters having fused into the mindless Bed of Chaos (or they might be trapped in it, which would be worse). The only one left is Quelaag, and whilst she's not crazed, we don't know about her deal, physically. I mean, actually, if she just communicated instead of trying to immediately kill the Chosen Undead, she would probably still be alive and well. Regardless, whether she's in physical pain or not, The Fair Lady's dialogue implies that Quelaag cries frequently (or failing that, that the Chosen Undead is crying right in that moment), so all things considered, there's probably quite a bit of emotional pain.
      But considering Quelaana is probably afraid of her sisters and likely has no way of knowing that, from her perspective, Quelaag has lost her mind, which would explain her inscrutable hostility. Quelaana might not even know The Fair Lady is still alive, though I doubt she'd be able to bring herself to face her if she did.

      +Chika Okechi the fusion theory is pretty good but remember they did fight against Gwynn and his knights so it is possible that the sisters we don't see were killed in said battle

    • @chikaokechi1009
      @chikaokechi1009 8 років тому

      StrikeZero _ Also true. I think (but can't remember) that some description explicitly says that her daughters were also absorbed/mutated by the Bed, but by no means does that mean that all of them were.
      In fact, we know not all were, and even Quelana--who was there--doesn't really seem to know what the heck really happened either. I wanted to say that it would be kind of weird for the hypothetical sisters who were unchanged to fight the silver knights in order to protect demons, but if they thought that they were protecting their mother/sisters so that they could eventually be saved, it would make perfect sense. We know at least one sister died as a lord and not a demon (the one guarded by Ceaseless), but we don't know if it was before or after the Demon War.
      Then there's also the fire sorceress right before the Bed.....I mean, she drops an Izalith catalyst, so we can assume she's not just some random pyromancer, but with how funky time is in this game, God knows if the Chosen Undead fighting her is even in the "present" timeline. Quelana is either wrong again (or finds the knowledge too painful) and another of her sisters was just fine all this time, or she was right and that sorceress was technically already dead/the one Ceaseless was guarding/someone else. Hell, for all we know, she could have even be Past!Quelana herself, though I find the idea doubtful.
      I'm not even entirely convinced that Quelana is even still alive, but that's another thing altogether....

    So I guess the demon fire sage is the last thing that has knowledge of fire sorceress, he has the catalyst as well as using fire spells that don't seem to be pyromancy, maybe he was a fire wizard of Izalith who was transformed by the chaos flame

  • @SpiritofWander1
    @SpiritofWander1 10 років тому +59

    I believe Queelana is dead. Why? Because she doesn´t drop her clothes when killed. It is probably that she died at the start of the Izalith event. Probably in a sort of sacrifice or ritual to fix something(but failed). Since she died at the start, she didn´t see that her spider sisters were still sane.
    Her spirit was filled with grief and remorse, so she remained as a ghost that tries to fix her misdeeds(helping in the creation of the chaos flame). The pyromancy flame is passed from one to another and as Laurentius tell us: ``When I gave you that flame, I gave you a part of myself´´. So in a sense, all gloves have a bit of Queelana in them.
    The fire of the pyromancy flame grows stronger with the user´s skill. So when the flame is strong enough, a manifestation of Queelana appears. Maybe her spirit gathers part of herself from the glove and is able to manifest, or she is merely a physical manifestation of her power that resides on the glove.

      I don't think so, cause then where is the 7th Daughter of Chaos? A. Chaos Witch Queelagg, 2. The Fair Lady (Queelann), 3. and 4. The 2 "things" (i believe they're little demon bugs) that turned into the orbs of the Bed of Chaos (aka. Witch of Izalith), 5. The dead one (in a ritual/sacrifice and supposedly Queelan - said by you) who is guarded by Ceaseless Discharge (who is supposed to be their brother) and 6. The corrupted, yet physicaly unharmed Daughter of Chaos who is guarding the Bed of Chaos (the NPC that attacks you on sight using pyromancy, yet all of those pyros are the "Chaos" variant). If the dead Daughter by Ceaseless Discharge isn't Queelana, then the family is complete. All i'm saying is my theory is more concrete/less speculated than yours).

    Ceaseless Discharge is the only son of the Witch of Izalith, according to supplemental materials. He's in constant agony because he was born with open sores that spewed LAVA, and he lost the Orange Charred Ring that was meant to help him. The body with the Gold-Hemmed set is the last Daughter of Chaos, his sister. That's why he goes berserk when you take the set. Who wouldn't be pissed if some jerk took the robe right off his sister's corpse right in front of him?

    I think you take the "being in pain" line too literally. I always took it as a more metaphorical kind of pain, referring more to madness or corruption. Quelana isn't literally saying that you have to kill her family because they're in pain, but she's telling you to remove the hollowed out husks of those she once loved, much like Rhea of Thorolund does in asking you to kill her Hollow bodyguards in the Catacombs. I sure as hell know that if I was ever to turn into Bed of Chaos my present self would like that version of me gone, and Quelana is just acting on that. The big discrepancy to this is Queelag and The Fair Lady, who are both still sane, but it's very possible Quelana simply doesn't know this.

  • @zaxthedax

    hi there,
    a note concerning the conditions on making quelana appear; you may want to add:
    i read some articles about how to make her appear but wasn't ever able to do it on my ps3 playthroughs. but im actually playing my first PC playthrough and she did appear _without meeting any conditions found on the wikis_!
    basically i did a normal run until capra demon. before challenging him i entered blighttown via backdoor entrance (master key) and there she was - before obtaining any pyromancy glove.

    I realize Ceaseless Discharge is in constant pain, I chose not to mention him as Quelana only mentions her "mother and sisters" being in pain. We also don't know if Ceaseless was born after or before The Witch of Izalith lost control of the Chaos Flame. (I'd assume before). We have no idea if any of the sisters are in actual pain.
    As far as the 2 sisters becoming orbs - nowhere in the game (that I know of) is that stated. That was (as far as I can tell) a speculation made by VaatiVidya.

    I think the witch of izalith is the godmother of pyromancy in the way that her fire sorcery was the beginning of all fire manipulation art and possibly the birth of the chaotic flame gave birth to pyromancy.
    quelanaa then actually invented pyromancy and made it usable for others not being blood aligned to the witch of izalith, so like - strange metapher or example ahead - thor is the origin of electricity(possibly), franklin made it useable and so thor is the godmother of electricity :D and franklin the mother ... if you can imagine that somehow.

    The witch of Izalith herself is writhing in agony tho. She is quite visibly and literally in pain. Ceaseless Discharge is at least in emotional pain.

      I agree, I only mesnt that I don't think that Quelana was trying to deceive the chosen undead. Saying that her family is in pain is a profound understatement. The only one who doesnt seem to be in pain would be Quelaag, but, crazy or not, she is trying to protect her family. Which is to say she is prolonging their agony. Ceaseless discharge doesnt seem to be in the same kind of torment as the witch of izalith or the fair lady, thats why I included that he was at least in emotional pain. Basically, I'm not sure OP nailed this one

    • @chikaokechi1009
      @chikaokechi1009 9 років тому +1

      office coffee Yeah, I feel you. I get the line of thought, but I absolutely do not believe that Quelaana is being deceitful. She might not have as much intimate knowledge of what's become of her family as the Chosen Undead, but she's probably one of the few people in the game who ISN'T trying to manipulate you in some way. You could argue that she's "using" you so she can finally heal her emotional wounds, but she asks you as a favour, friend to friend. It's not like she's trying to trick you into it.

    She escaped and faked her death...... unlikely. Qualana is a ghost. She even said she's not often revealed to walkers of the flesh. Implying she has no flesh. The reason you find her cloths on that body, is because she's dead and that's her body.

    The Gold Hemmed Cloak is only described as the robes Quelana wore, it didn't say specifically that it's the robes she wore, but rather robes that she wears.. If that makes sense. There are still a couple sisters we don't hear about, so Ceaseless is most likely guarding one of the dead unheard of sisters..
    I believe the Izalith Sister killing people outside the Bed of Chaos was made insane by her time in the Lost Izalith. The explosion of the chaos flame happened a thousand years ago so....

  • @DaveControlLive
    @DaveControlLive  11 років тому +2

    I realize that it looks exactly like what all of the sisters wear. The only reason that I point it out as being Quelana's is because the entire item description is described as Quelana's, and no where mentions the Daughters of Chaos.
    After specifically describing it as: "She wore this gold-hemmed ..." as opposed to "The Daughters of Chaos wore this gold-hemmed ..." I realize it's arguing semantics - but Dark Souls seems to always be good about this.
    Another note: Quelana doesn't drop clothes

    Laurentius describes Pyromancy as weaving a natural force and doesn't talk about chaos stuff.
    The Chaos Flame were created by the Witch of Izalith in an attempt to reproduce the First Flame, but it turned out as something twisted turning most people into demons.
    Quelaana's Pyromancy seems to use elemental power instead of the Chaos Flame.
    Pyromancers seem to be pretty strict about how should they do firemagic considering that they banished Eingyi because he made poison spells from Pyromancy.

    Interessting theory, allthough it's really hard to know for sure, since the game has so many things that we cannot know for sure and there are no ways of finding out. Allthough the Izalith Catalyst did make me think that Dark Souls 2 is gonna be taking place in the past since the sorcerer we've seen uses fire sorcery and not pyromancy. Let's hope that we can find out more in the next game or of course come up with even more questions. They do have to keep their reputation after all.

    I've speculated many times that Quelana's appearance is completely random, but there are certain actions you can perform that ensure her arrival. Now, to coincide with the theory that she is only revealed to powerful py-bros, I counter with the suggestion that she wanders around the swap (Maybe areas inaccessible in-game), and then wanders into the explore-able area, and is encountered by the player. All this said, It wouldnt surprise me if there ARE set conditions, but that's my take on her.

    Great video! You made me think twice about the Quelana cause she does seem to be legit but who knows. You mentioned the 2 sisters becoming orbs. It's highly likely that they are fused with the Witch of Izalith since you have to kill 3 lifeforms to shut it down. Perhaps Quelana doesn't know that only 2 of her sisters were part of the Bad of Chaos, or she might, wich of course is not clear. Well, it is Dark Souls so we can never know things for sure. Anyway, keep up the lore videos!

So where would that leave the 7th if not at the altar near Discharge? Great video either way keep it up man.

    Just a personal theory, what if when the witch of izalith was controlling the flame of chaos, and then she had to give birth to ceaseless discharge while she was controlling it? Maybe ceaseless was a result of all that power that was constantly in flux and had to be expelled in some way, or if she was so intent on creating life purposely used the excess flame and power to create ceaseless, and in that process of birthing him, lost control and everything spiraled? I noticed that in the beginning the daughters of chaos formed a circle with their mother when she found the lord soul. In Wicca/witchcraft you’re supposed to have a circle in which to perform the ritual you’re performing to keep the magic within contained and to keep outside influences from corrupting it. What if the while the witch was giving birth she had her daughters form a circle around her to aid in her control? A circle going from her oldest around to her youngest? Which would make sense in a symbol of the progression of life, also if quelana saw what was happening, likely her brother, she would turn and run? Or somehow break the circle and then everything fell apart? And the corpse could be the sister directly behind the witch, who wouldn’t see everything going wrong and got the brunt of it, the eldest turned maybe to grab quelana or shield herself and got far enough away that only her mind was corrupted? And both quelaag and the fair lady were on either side of them that they were able to get enough away to where their lower halves were caught, maybe from staying long enough to try to stem the flow of flame? And the two closest to the witch from behind maybe tried to grab their mother to help stem the flow as well but became those two creatures bound to the bed of chaos? You only see the chaos flame burst from the bed after those creatures/“shackles” are killed/broken. Could be why quelana blames herself if she faltered especially if she were the youngest. And the other daughters, either with corrupted minds or bodies or didn’t see her running and presumed she was dead if she shed her clothes far enough away? Especially if they were scorched in some manner?

    I really like this theory. I don't think her manipulation is quite as malevolent as you make it sound. She says her family is in pain, ceaseless discharge is certainly a horrible abomination, that is wrought with pain and sad obsession with his dead sister(which may be a ruse I guess). Think about the witch and the two sister's that became fused into her, (common theory, not actually sure how much evidence there is) that's a horrible existence, like becoming a vegetable.

    I think Quelana actually is that corpse we find the gold hemmed set on, and we see a manifestation of her, maybe manifestationS. The gold hemmed set is specifically said to be QUELANA’S, yeah? So why do three different people have them? Quelana, the corpse, and the woman outside the bed of chaos fight?
    If each pyromancy flame originates from her, shes the mother of pyromancy, then what if having a strong enough bond to a flame allows you to meet with her?
    She says she got free of the chaos flame’s effects, and later asks you to free her sisters and mother, you killing the bed of chaos being the successful end goal.
    What if shes free because shes already dead? Youre able to communicate with her via strong pyromancy bond, and what if, and it might be a stretch, the witch we see guarding the bed of chaos is a more protective manifestation, either warding off those unable to free her or instinctively guarding her mother?

      ***** Dark Souls 2. The stories in the lore and all might still be kinda depressing from time to time, but at least none of your settlers will wander off and go hollow. I personally prefer sad endings, except for when it comes to Solaire. That broke my heart.

    I wouldn't be surprised if Jeremiah was another sun based eccentric like Solaire, clearly from the description of his head dress he is trying to appear to be a sun himself, the bright yellowness of his outfit "Stings the eyes". his pyromancy might just be an extension of that sort of obsession.

    One of the things I've always wondered about is how the Daughters of Chaos (and Ceaseless) were actually born. I think the gods probably reproduce the same way as humans do, for the most part (except maybe whatever chicanery created Priscilla), but I honestly believe that the Witch of Izalith created her children using the chaos flames she derived from the lord soul that she found. The two main dichotomies in DS are Light/Dark and Life/Death, and while Gwyn and the Furtive Pygmy/Manus obviously represent the former down to the names of their lord souls, it might be less intuitive that the Witch of Izalith is Nito's counterpoint--she is the Goddess of Life to Nito's Lord of Death. Fire is usually associated with life all of its own, but having seen that the Witch's attempt to recreate the First Flame somehow brought to being (evil) living creatures, it makes sense that the original fire arts were something conventionally begat life or had the ability to shape/transform life.
    Ion even know where I was going with this.

    I think she simply wants them to be euthanize because of the sad state they exist in, and all the harm they caused. The sister guarding the bed of chaos is interesting, Corrupted? Just really loyal? I don't know, Not sure about her wanting quelaag and the fair lady dead though. I never really lumped them in with ceaseless, and the ones in izalith. I hope her appearing after queelag is dead actually has implications. Awesome theory with good evidence though.

    Kinda sad to think she might be manipulating you, as she seems to be one of the few characters with an arguably good and noble cause. While I'm not sure if her two sisters are in pain or not, look at the mother. The witch of izalith has been twisted to the point where she isn't remotely human and spawns demons that harm and destroy. So still, her request isn't that bad. As for the elder sister guarding the BOC, it would be natural for her to do so, as even as twisted as it is it is still her mom

  • @guyx5000
    @guyx5000 11 років тому

    if she faked her death then that means there is one sister unaccounted for, in the intro you clearly see 8 witches of izalith including the mother, the bed of chaos is the mother and two of her daughters, there is the one guarding the bed, there is quelaag and the fair lady Quelana and the corps guarded by the ceaseless discharge, if the body was actually Quelanas ruse then that means there is still one unaccounted for

  • @MetroAndroid
    @MetroAndroid 11 років тому

    I think Quelana truly believe her sisters suffer from being lost to Chaos in the same sense that Artorias suffers from losing himself to the Abyss. If 2 of the sisters and the Witch of Izalith are in the Bed of Chaos, I doubt they are fully cognizant of their actions. I don't believe the eldest sister is being selfless or kind or anything at all. She must have gone beyond crazy to still believe her sisters need to be protected by her.

  • @KamiDesu7

    • @polux5136

      KamiDesu7 Maybe a little late, but contrary to popular belief the queen of izalith did eventually gain control of the chaos flame, the people of izalith WILLINGLY became demons. Quelana did not like this. You can see this when fihghting quelagg, shes not a woman in pain and torment and even pets her spider demon half, she even HUGS it when doing the aoe attack and her spider is getting fucked up.

    • @KamiDesu7

      i do remember an item description mentiong something about a time when the Chaos Flame was unstable at one point, implying that it did stabilize eventually, but not sure if thats because of time, lack of humanity or the witch of izalith. Not sure if im the same train of thought as you are.

    The woman in the swamp is not quelana.
    Reasons for that are:
    The clothing found at ceasless sais its the clothing of quelana.
    So whats the woman in the swamp wearing?
    As she dies she talks to her mother and her sisters but not to her brother, although they seamed to have a very close relationship concidering he guards her grave.
    That combined with the strange things given in the video makes me think that the real Quelana lies next to ceasless. Ever thought it that way?

    I think, Witch if Izalith did not create pypomansy. The term for her is "Godmother". And a godmother is not somebody biologocally related to the child. I think Quelana named Witch of Izalith "Godmother of pyromansy" as an honorable mention, so her mother, who she loves would not be forgotter, and remembered in a respectful manner and not as the mother of demons.

    This might have been said in comments before, but godmother isn't a blood-relative term. A godmother is someone close to the parents, but not actually related to them. With that understanding, Quelana is the mother of pyromancy because she created it, while the Witch is the godmother as she is close to Quelana, but not actually related to the 'family' of pyromancers. Just a theory.
