TA Fishing to the Rescue. The only Channel keeping me positive. Unemployed now, but i have a new Kayak and a ton of Fishing Gear, so i reckon things will get better this year. Cheers Graeme for yet another film out of the Ball Park. Best to Mike too. Steve in Fife.
Interesting video and well worth the time watching. Lot of varied content in 20 minutes. Thanks for taking the time and for sharing Graeme......it helps :)
I'm from Madeira, I used to fish this waters on my young years, abundance of fish back then with just hand line and a few hooks (no fancy rods), sometimes with a long bamboo stick. never a dull day, there's plenty of affordable gear nowadays but sadly no fish as we clearly see on your video .... Thanks for posting Sir
A total escape from stress that's what your video of Madeira gave me. Gorgeous scenery interesting houses, lovely fish market. Be careful Graeme you could be snapped up as a holiday rep. Thanks as always for posting.
Good on you Graham, never stop making videos as your great at doing them. I can see that you have shared alot of your wisdom with your son. Let's hope us fishing folk can start fishing down at the rivers
Brand new subscriber here... this channel is absolutely brilliant. Find myself binge watching videos every day... chilled content, great fishing and you remind me of my grandfather which makes me happy. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for that GP, as usual you help to keep my sanity whilst I am shielded, my wife is at work managing a GP surgery, my eldest lad is at work in the met police, my youngest is at work as a chippy in Bracknell and I am here trying to make conversation with a lab and a westie. Anyway, get your self down to Green park in Reading, Longwater lakes.....fantastic fishing...day ticket facility, cold water and toilets available, there is even a cafe open to the public.....the whole place is manicured as if you were in a national trust property with benches and rubbish bins everywhere and the swims are very sturdy and well built, the pike fishing on No 1 lake is to be envied but there are many other species to be had and the most elusive are the "doctor fish" the tenches, they seem to be very wise to anglers. Please keep those videos coming.
Thanks Greame, last time I was in Madera was as a 10 year old sailing from Capetown to Southampton on the Union Castle line 1964. I remember the locals diving into the sea to retrieve coins chucked from the ship. Another cracking film, your efforts are so much appreciated. Yes, please dig out some more!
Great upload Graeme, very interesting! Thanks for that! There is no end to your talents - makes me wonder what delights you will come up with next! Stay safe, stay well!
Hi Graeme, it was nice to see home from your video. I've been living in London for the past 16 years and I never thought I'd see a video of yours on the island I was born. Thank you
Went to Madeira myself in November last year, it was such an amazing experience, we went for 10 days and it definitely wasn't enough. Such a beautiful place!
not sure if anyone said, the dried fish, is actually cod ( or that is our tradition at least). rather then sun dried is actually salted cod. I would say is not great when you boil it (is our xmas eve traditional meal), but there are some pretty nice ways to cook it and it can be yummy!
Bonne Dia Graeme !!! ( not sure on spelling.) In my working career as a baker I worked for 2 or 3 years for a Portugeese chap named DeMederos. Great times! Cheers from Vancouver island!
From about 10.35 to 10.50 is indeed what you guessed - Cod. Known throughout Portugal (where I live) as Bacalhau. Dried salted cod, almost all of which is Norwegian. To me it is a waste of good fish. No doubt necessary in the past before refrigeration, but it needs soaked for a very long time to regain some moisture, and it never loses enough salt. Many Portuguese, and some foreigners, rave about it. Give me fresh anytime in preference to this.
@@wings06 As I said many people, including non Portuguese do rave about it. I have tried it a few times because trying something once is not enough to form a fair opinion. Three days with several water changes makes it a non starter for me. There are a few foods I do not like - curry for starters. I eat a lot and prefer fresh meat, fish, vegetables and many fruits all without seasoning so that I can taste the items I am eating. It is invariably accompanied and complemented by Portuguese wines, both table and fortified.
My family, the Hollway's helped set up the tourist trade on the island in the early 1800s & was the first to have a luxury hotel on the island in Funchal. The dried slabs of fish look like bacalhau - cod
The dried fish is called bacalhao. Its dried/salted cod and a traditional Portuguese way of of preserving cod. Loads of different ways of using it. Great vid as always
Hi Graeme. Just started viewing your channel. Really like it keep up the good work. The fish that you see drying is cod. Drying it , is a Portuguese traditional way of preserving it. To eat it, you place it in water for some hours and it puffs up. Cheers.
Come fish continental portugal as well! we have loads of great fishing beaches in the north of the country, would love to see how you fare around here :D Big big fan of your work!
Hi Graeme, just wondering if you still have the photos of you with your “Arizona trout” or salmo apache as I believe they’re known??? I hold love to see them and I also think a video recalling some of the fishing you’ve experienced around the world would be tremendously popular. Could be done in another W and a session as we all particularly enjoyed the first one!!! Cheers, a huge fan.
Yes,we ran my story on the Apache Trout of Arizona in ,I believe,Trout Fisherman magazine. I drove all the way up to the White Mountains from Scottsdale to meet the ranger/guide...It was an exclusive experience for sure..It was just a section of an incredible press trip that saw me stay away from the UK for over 5 weeks..how my business survived I'll never know, and I took 21 flights backwards and forwards between the States covering fishing from Arizona to Cape Cod and the Florida Keys...What a trip..
Portugal! My adopted country! Never catch too much on the beaches. River/Lake fishing pretty much the same but... Really... With the scenery, the climate who needs to be catching? ;-)
as for the high apex roof..I'm guessing the steepness of the roof pitch makes the thatch more effective at shedding water...might be more than that but.. that's my best guess
TA upload on a Wednesday? You're spoiling us Graeme! Appreciate the effort you and the crew are putting in for us. Quick question if you get to see this, in some earlier videos I remember you talking about a place you rent a trailer/chalet type thing very close to a beach. I can't find the video again, any chance you know the name of it?
"You and the crew "??? Haha I've been running the films and editing on my own for a year now...that's why you get the rock music tracks on some of them. Place was called St.Audries Bay Holiday Park, but as I write I believe still closed from Covid, but be sure to check with them.
The dried salted fish is cod from Norway (sometimes iceland) and it's been a big tradition in Portugal, Spain and Brasil for many centuries. It is tradition to say that a portuguese woman can only get married when they can cook salted cod in 365 different ways. It is even what we eat on Christmas eve!
I wish..There are some in our vintage section that I had converted from VHS,but I was only shooting stills for magazines in the early years when I was really nuts on Big Game fishing ,no video camera...I was so far out there even NASA couldn't get to me...Totally obsessed on big Marlin and sharks.
Great video as always very informative . Very dodgy place to land a plane , I think pilots actually have to have extra training and exam before they can land there.🤔 never fished there but there’s a great golf course close by. Sea food is quite spectacular 👍👍 if you watch the Portuguese build a house you would be quite shocked how thick the roof is. Under the visible tiles there are many layers including a concrete one and another of insulation. It does keep the heat out in the Summer and in during the winter. Madeira can be quite cold and wet during the winter . Just looked at all your great merchandise, maybe a boat sticker could be addition one day ?
Well, it's easy to produce a video like this with a obviously professional film crew along. just kidding sir. you did an AWESOME job and I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks!!
Nice to be appreciated. I think a lot of people just get so used to watching my films they forget I am totally on my own doing it. I tend to go for content rather than fancy shots, but having said that I do enjoy putting them together in the editing.
Whether it's scrubbing toilets, building a boat out of pallet wood or burning vol-au-vents it's a pleasure to watch anything graeme gets up to.
@Moto Ro I have other websites for such things

Jesus's that glass floor made my legs gooooood. 🙏🙏🤣🤣. Great stuff as ever. Many thanks. MIKE
Great video Graham, it was nice to see your wife enjoying her lunch,.
You can see she has no interest in the filming, she was halfway through her meal...faster than a Barracuda hitting a Silver mullet !!!!
thanks for all you work, love the videos
Nice one, I had to laugh at the last bit.... "some broken glass, time to leave"..... 😂
The dry fish a 10:53 is Bacalhau, dry and salted Atlantic Cod, an absolute eternal presence in Portuguese cuisine.
Brilliant Graham, where are you taking us next time🏖🏖
Splendid video Graham, thanks
Thanks Graeme . Another Great vid , brought back a lot of memories

Ilha de Madera... amazing place, also for fishing tuna and blue marlin. We didnt catch any, so a good excuse to go back one day 😂
Finaly learnt what Mums table lamp started life as. The basketed water container. Only took 54 years. Thank you Smith.

When zig carp fishing, is it necessary to spod over the zig?
Up to the individual, many just fish it as an isolatory depending on visual location by the fish.
