The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen it. Side trivia: 1. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading the Book Of The Dead (in reality, it's a funerary scroll) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. 2. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster, but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.
When I watched the movie with my sister, we discussed whether horses or camels would be faster. Turned out, camels can actually go surprisingly fast, and on rough desert terrain, actually can go faster than horses.
There a few things. There are four canonic jars, not five, and the scarabs eat dung, not flesh. There were curses on grave goods but not traps, as far as I’ve heard. Fun movie and the girls are great!
the mummy is part of what is known as the big five of old horror movies. those included Dracula the wolfman Frankenstein the mummy and the creature from the black lagoon.

I may have use for you. And the rewards…will be great. Where are the other sacred jars?” 41:12 “You saved me from the undead. I thank you.”
In the part Imhotep spoke Egiptian he said this: "ahh, the language of slaves, I may have a use for you. Help me, and your reward...(shows the gold)...may be great." In my version of the movie we did had the subtitles, here in latinoamerica were not so lazy as USA translators.

5:49 It's a Jackal it's representative of the Egyptian god Anubis(most commonly referred to as the god of mummification, graves, cemeteries , judgement or the afterlife). One of the duties Anubis would perform was to weigh the heart of the newly deceased against a feather from Ma'at if the heart weighed more the person would cease to exist having their heart and soul devoured by Ma'at but if the heart was equal in weight or lesser the person would be allowed into the afterlife.

The two mummy movies are so wild and fun. It is a lot more fun when I get to watch you reacting to them, you guys are just so much fun. You are so active and vocal, it's so cool. Now you have to watch the next one, the story continues.
Camels are totally adapted for the desert, whereas horses are not. A camel can survive weeks in hot deserts. A horse would only have a chance if there were a lot of watering holes, but even then the horse is losing far more water than the camel is. Horses tend to live up to 30 years old, and camels can live 10-20 years longer. Unfortunately, wild double-humped camels(known as bactrian) are very endangered. Thanks to all three of you for this movie reaction, and I wish you a happy Valentine's Day!
@@allisongrinnell5107 Thanks for providing that information. I did not look into the origin of the camel, just its ability to survive in the desert environment. The Arctic origin also makes sense, since deserts can also get quite cold as well as quite warm.
They seemed like they lacked some technical knowledge on Egyptian history/culture (e.g. calling the Anubis statue and the jackal noises in Hamunaptra a horse, unicorn or dog or something else and the Sekhmet statue a dog instead of a lion in front of the central library of Cairo) but besides that I think they might have already known this, they seem like very intelligent and cultured people, they pointed out that horses wouldn't be as adapted to the conditions of the desert compared to camels, as opposed to many people (myself included when I first watched the movie) who really don't even think about it, plus, there's plenty of camels in deserts in Asia and central Asia, and there are also plenty of horses, so they must know about that too as well, and how camels are very resilient and adapted to extreme weather conditions and sandy areas.
It's always so much fun to watch a movie with these sweet girls. 😊❤ Their reactions are so enjoyable; it is like I am watching one of my favorite movies for the first time again. 👍🤗
The characters in this movie are so well written including "minor" ones and bad guys. The Egyptian prison warden had some great lines ("apparently he had a *very* good time") as did Jonathon and Beni. I would say this and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl are the two best action / adventure / comedy / horror / romance films. Both are just so good at every scene. For instance the writers of this movie did a great job of making you feel bad when the Americans are all consumed by the mummy. As well as when the Curator is killed. These are characters you wouldn't even notice in many movies, because the writers can't be bothered to flesh them out (no pun intended).
One thing I really have liked is that you guys tend to follow what’s going on story wise for the most part in your reviews. It’s fun to see your reactions as you step “get it”. (If you want to see more of him check out the sequel.) Fun Fact: In the original 1932 Mummy, Imhotep disguises himself as a modern Egyptian going by the name Ardath Bey. In real life people who discovered and were associated with opening King Tut's tomb were believed to be cursed after some of them suffered mysterious deaths not long after the tomb was opened. And the "unicorn" Anubis is actually a jackal or canine.

This is an infinitely re-watchable movie for me. Fantastic cast, great characters, the effects were outstanding when the movie came out and still hold up decently today, and it's so much fun. I wish we still got adventure movies (and TV shows) like this these days. Sometimes something comes out that is close (the recent Jumanji movies with The Rock, for example, are a bit of fun), but good adventure genre fare that's just pure entertainment seems to be few and far between.

Side trivia:
@@ReddwarfIV Huh....I guess you learn something new every day
Some waggish fellow once described the camel as "a horse designed by committee". ☺️ 🙄
Jonathan Hyde was a boss for doing that locust scene. I would've been freaking out inside. If he indeed was, he hid it well.
Everything about this movie is chefs kiss. The casting, the plot and the soundtrack - it’s such a gift. Happy Valentine’s Day ladies 🌹🌹🌹
There a few things. There are four canonic jars, not five, and the scarabs eat dung, not flesh. There were curses on grave goods but not traps, as far as I’ve heard. Fun movie and the girls are great!
The soundtrack? Lawrence of Arabia would like a word with you...
the mummy is part of what is known as the big five of old horror movies. those included Dracula the wolfman Frankenstein the mummy and the creature from the black lagoon.
So awesome!
Great episode Movie Munchies! "Everyone should carry a cat!" - Hela
Since some of the subtitles are missing from this version of the movie, here they are.
20:55 “This one is strong.”
36:07 “Come with me my princess, Anck-Su-Namun.”
37:42 “The language of the [Hebrew] slaves. I may have use for you. And the rewards…will be great. Where are the other sacred jars?”
41:12 “You saved me from the undead. I thank you.”
Thank you, whoever did the subtitles just butchered them, they were fine on the DVD.
29:20 'Kiss her while she's sleeping' ........'No that's not fine' 🤣🤣🤣
That's what the princes in "Sleeping Beauty" and "Snow White" did to awaken their true loves! Tien won't fall for that though. 😉🤣
In the part Imhotep spoke Egiptian he said this: "ahh, the language of slaves, I may have a use for you. Help me, and your reward...(shows the gold)...may be great." In my version of the movie we did had the subtitles, here in latinoamerica were not so lazy as USA translators.
The original version in the US had the subtitles. Someone created extra work for themselves, in order to remove them.
14:09 "He's, uh, handsome, now."
He cleans up very well, doesn't he?
Love this one, perfect summer popcorn and soda film. Action, horror and romance all in one. As a kid my favorite character was Winston Havelock and his classic war bird. 'Here I come laddies!' RIP Bernard Fox.
For me one of my go to Summertime or just fun movies to watch is Tremors, hope they check that movie out soon
I best remember Mr. Fox from the "Bewitched" TV series where he played Dr. Bombay. He appeared as a special guest in so many 1960s - 1980s TV and voiced characters in Disney shows like "The Rescuers".
9:06 "Always mess up, women!" 😂
The unicorn 🦄 love the reaction 🙌 you girls are amazing
Edit; the hanging scene, the actor almost die while filming
5:49 It's a Jackal it's representative of the Egyptian god Anubis(most commonly referred to as the god of mummification, graves, cemeteries , judgement or the afterlife). One of the duties Anubis would perform was to weigh the heart of the newly deceased against a feather from Ma'at if the heart weighed more the person would cease to exist having their heart and soul devoured by Ma'at but if the heart was equal in weight or lesser the person would be allowed into the afterlife.
This is one of my favourites adventure movies ever. You´ll probably enjoy a lot as well the second part (Return of the mummy). I love too much the chemistry in all moment among Rick and Evelyn, they´re wonderful.
Such harmony! And such beauty! I feel privileged and blessed!
Im loving this . Each one has a different perspective and way of react in the situations it really makes me happy to rewatch and see if someone was on my side .
This movie and Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation both came out in 1999, so it was a great year for Egypt in popular media, and I got so passionate about Egyptian mythology as a result.
The two mummy movies are so wild and fun. It is a lot more fun when I get to watch you reacting to them, you guys are just so much fun. You are so active and vocal, it's so cool. Now you have to watch the next one, the story continues.
Oh, my!! Three favorite girls reacting to one of the best pure entertainment movies ever made. And, Rachel W ... Be still my heart! :)
Im so glad to have lunch while rewatching this movie!
Also, Chi's hair is aaaawwwwwwwesome!!
Again, so much fun watching you girls enjoy a good film. Your engagement with the characters and the story are charming. Thanks.
I love you girls!
There needs to be more sweet and precious souls like you in this world! 😇❤
Evie is the hero of the movie...it's her knowledge that saves them all...let's give her some respect!
Her knowledge also started it, so six and two threes 👍

nice to see all 3 of you reacting together again! Glad you enjoyed it!
Fun fact: Camels are not native to the desert! They are originally from the Arctic and the humps stored calories for the winter.
They had the best reactions I have seen in a while here on UA-cam
This was the first movie I ever watched at the theater as a little kid. It was a Drive-In theater.
I watched this and Titanic there.
This is another fun series that had a great 1st and 2nd movie! Thanks for the fun reactions 😄
You 3 are so funny. I absolutely love your reactions. This is my favorite UA-cam channel ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One thing I really have liked is that you guys tend to follow what’s going on story wise for the most part in your reviews.
It’s fun to see your reactions as you step “get it”. Some reactors get so lost in confusion or assumptions that they miss what made movies great.
@58:01 It’s a woman’s fight “grab her hair”. 😂😂😂
That kind of commentary is what keeps me subscribed.
This movie was an instant classic because of how it well it modernized the Indiana Jones formula. It was serious, but not too serious. It was funny, but not too funny. The actors performed well, and have great chemistry. I wish they made many more! I love the big smiles on the audience's faces at the end. That says it all!
The only few people that stayed constant throughout the trilogy was Brendan Fraser (father), John Hannah (brother) and Oded Fehr (first two films) then third one had added characters as it was filmed in Shanghai (aka probably Hollywood sets) in collaboration with Asian American actors such as Michele Yeoh, Jet Li, Isabella Leong, Anthony & Russell Wong etc.
@@davestang5454 All in All, it was decent in my opinion, I just didn't like how the movies kept jumping to result of each one not recapping in the opening intros of each film to catch-up on what happened afterwards b/c I what to know what happened to actress who played the mother originally and why she didn't return? To me the 3rd one seemed too rushed.
Watch Blast from the Past and Bedazzled, its Brendan Frasier movies also 😊
My new favorite channel on UA-cam. Love you ladies, keep up the good work 🔥👍
Another one with Tien! Woot!
Love this movie. I first saw it when it came out when I was 13. Took me a minute but then I realized that unfortunately with the closed captions on, it did not show the translations of what Imhotep was saying. @1:03:38 Believe me, my mom and I definitely had a crush on Ardeth Bay played by Oded Fehr too. And the "unicorn" Anubis is actually a jackal or canine.
at 0:10 damn all 3 together to a movie i love .... this will be amazing ...
The Mummy Returns is even better
this ladies are funny, smart and beatifull. love them
Beni is the greatest character ever invented in all of cinema.
Don’t know if we agree 😂
I love watching movies with you young ladies more than watching them at a movie theater.
Your reactions are so adorable.
10:37 jump scare reaction was the exact same reaction the entire movie theater audience had. People were laughing hard afterwards because of the freight. I'll never forget that. That jump scare set the stage for what to come. its both a creepy movie thats pretty funny and fun and has really horror jumpscares. Pretty unique
This misunderstanding (mummy/mommy) happens to the best of us. Actress Jenette Goldstein auditioned for "Aliens" thinking it was about illegal aliens/Mexicans coming to USA, so she dressed up and used a lot of makeup.
There are so many dog statues, because it is a tomb, and the dog-headded god Anubis is the god of enbalming.
Hela: "Why is that dog there? is that a dog?"
*Anubis decays*
Hela: "Now it's a unicorn!"
LFMAO!!!! You ladies are a riot
BTW, the dog is actually a jackal (basically a coyote) and was known as Anubis, the God of the dead.
15:36 "By the way, why did you kiss me?"
"I don't know. I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time."
"Oh."
"She does not want to hear that."
Ah. But is it not preferrable to ask _forgiveness_ than _permission?_
I am so happy you guys react to this! It is one of my favorites, I highly recommend watching the squeal the Mummy Returns it is so good!
There is a 3 hour movie called The Ten Commandments, it tells the story of Moses who freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt . It is a classic film and was made in 1956 from the director named Cecil B. Demille who made 70 films , such as Cleopatra, Samson and Delilah, The Ten Commandments was Cecil's final film he had made until his death in 1959.

People call this a remake but it isn't. The story line is different, the characters are different except for a couple Egyptian names it is a totally different movie. The movie starring Boris Karloff is the original and I recommend it highly. Boris Karloff is a legend of legends. He created the ultimate Frankenstein monster.
But it _is_ a remake/reboot. Universal has remade/rebooted the franchise multiple times now. This version also reuses several scenes from the original, and several more are reused in the sequel. More so than any other, this remake is closest to following the original story.

Arnold Vasloo was perfect as Imhotep in both Mummy movies before the 3rd movie, plus his Mummy form before he regenerated from death was pretty scary but cool at the same time
I watched this in the 2000s when I was a kid, now in my 30s this movie still holds up, age like good wine
"Everyone should carry a Cat now!" - Good advice under any circumstances!
That wasn't a unicorn. it was Anubis :)
I think when you look at the context of what happened in the world prior to The Mummy, the brother's attitude of disregard for the dead makes sense, as it would have been just after WW1. No regard for the dead, because he was already surrounded by it for so long, and a lot of soldiers half considered themselves dead already.
Also been to Egypt and although it's extremely hot (of course we went in summer) it's a very dry heat so it isn't as painful. The sand is like nothing else in the Sahara, it's so fine, you can feel no texture; it felt like putting my hand in water.
Also the fact that I watched this movie before I went to Egypt and my dad did NOT correct the belief I had that scarab beetles could sink into the skin and eat you alive, so I spent way too much time fearing scarab beetles.
"Mummy, Mummy, Mummy, I've got love in my tummy....."🥰
One of my top 5 faves! Thanks for reacting, great as always!

"Everyone should carry a cat now". Indeed 😼
5:44 it is a jackal, an Egyptian God named ANUBIS.
1:02:31 Now consider, which death would've been _more_ painful for Benni, here? Being eaten alive by the scarabs, or being crushed by the wall?
3:33 Lol no it’s his lover who is the mistress of the king and yeah IKR priest having a lover is really unheard of in REAL Egyptian history then again he’s a priest of the dark arts so yeah theres that.
