To make your job easier... taking oil filter off then try taking off oil adapter bracket with lines on by taking off two allen bolts that are above where oil filter was . Only cost $6 for two gaskets . Then you can do all the connector fittings and clips and install of two hoses in s area you have more space and everything is more accessible. So take off rad lines 1st then drop adapter , replace everything, install adapter then rad lines last . Hope this helps , works on most trucks
"Exposing" the spring clip under the plastic ring is what I was missing. Thanks for this video, buddy. Very helpful.
you should put a little oil on the end of the tube to prevent roughing up the o rings when you put it back together
Your one comment at 8 minutes and 47 seconds just saved me! Forgot to note when taking the lines off if the short one goes to the bottom and the tall one goes to the top of the housing. Thank you so much!
Glad I found this video. After removing the oil lines, I forgot which line went to which hole on the oil filter. Thankfully you pointed it out in your video!
Thanks I found this very helpful. I have an 09 cobalt and just replaced all the fuel lines, battery, those plastic clips and now I have a leak coming off either the line fitting or the hose... I hope it isn't the complete radiator. *Thumbs up* . You taught me something new.
I blew my line this morning-in my yard thank God.. I just did the ball joints, tie rods, alternator, battery, and next is the easy job.. Fan belt.. Thanks for the info..
on your lower radiator connector if you remove the upper fan shroud and the 2 10mm bolts to the lower shroud you can pull it back enough to allow you a little more wiggle room for the lower line and thanks for the info about the quick disconnect i wish i would have seen this before i did it all the hard way and of course mine was a frustrating engine swap and i reused the original line one of which is leaking now so i get to do it inside the truck now
Does anyone know how to remove the upper connector!? Mine is completely stripped and I don't want have to buy a whole new cooler line! PLEASE HELP, I CAN'T EVEN REMOVE IT OR SOMEHOW BREAK IT OFF!
Thank you for making this video, I have a 2009 Escalade ext and am having a hell of a time feeding oil cooler lines, with cat, diff, axle, frame, exhaust might have to drop the differential.
Nice video. I wasn't sure how the quick connect worked, this cleared that up for me. FYI for me in my 97 k1500 tahoe the charcoal canister is next to the second battery tray, so i just removed it and got access to the lower line on the radiator. I'm not sure what that was that next to yours.
Thanks for the video. I had to replace mine today. It sucked, but this video helped
Thanks Dude! We owe you a beer!!
Outstanding video. Watched a few others but yours is coherent, and high quality. Many thanks for taking the fear out of what I'll be doing this Oct 23, 2021 weekend. Great Job!!!!!
A 26mm wrench or socket works best for installing the quick connect fittings. A 1" or 1-1/16" socket will also work.
I believe you can install the clips first and push the line in until it clicks. Also there is a cheap tool you push in that releases the clip without actually removing it however I still find it easier to just take it out with a pick.
My 2000 Astro w/141K is leaving small drip stains on the driveway and I was told to check these lines. I may be doing this job soon so thanks for posting.
Do you have a video on the older GM trucks? I have a '94 GMC Suburban 5.7L. My cooler lines have plastic clips that go into the filter housing. Inside where the line goes into the housing there's o-rings and a plastic spacer. I'd like to see a video on the line replacement on one of those.
Thanks for the video,good stuff.🚗
Fantastic video!! . . Really sucks that it rusted out like that. I'm wondering if the new lines are a better material like stainless maybe?
Good job!Thank you for the video.
I know its an old vid but really helped me understand approximately what i was getting myself into for my 02 express 6.5td lines so thanks Mark! Cheers..
the best video i saw on that topic so far thank you that was really helpful
Excellent video for us do-it-yourself types
Great vid buddy thank you !!
Great job ... Perfect details & description . I have to do mines over . I didn't tighten the top oil line tight enough :~(
Mark,
great video, I have used crows feet on the radiator end to make that a little easier. Thanks for all the tips!
Mike
+mikes97626
What's a crows feet?
+Tad Hittenberger if you Google crows foot wrench you'll get an image. To explain it, it's a wrench head(end) in various sizes that has a 3/8 ratchet opening.
Thanks for the video. Very useful to watch someone else do a job before tackling it yourself. My only other comment would be that it seems that you defeated the purpose of the quick connect by taking the clips out of the plugs. Mine just pushed right through the clip and snapped in place. No need to wrestle with adding the clips.
That was a kick ass low production value video dude lot of great information thank you for posting, Great job....
It wasn't meant to be a dig I'd rather have low production value and serious information and that was straightforward good stuff some people focus so much on production value you think you're watching an actual Hollywood movie but then their content suffers keep up the good work.
@@nogripes haha with breathing and chewing gum sounds you could put ASMR in your title
@@nogripes hows the line and everything holding up. ?
My radiator cracked so I think I will do the trans and engine oil cooler lines and new radiator hoses I guess while I'm in there
What size of disconnect tool did you use to disconnect the lines by the oil filter?
my '95 C2500 (w/o air conditioner) work truck developed leaks in the oil lines, the power steering lines, and the AT cooler lines... needed a coolant flush as well. Crap everywhere in the engine compartment (had rusty battery tray, damaged trans cooler when I got it 2 years ago). Only got around to dealing with this mess now. Since I had nothing to lose, getting to the lower oil connectors was made a LOT easier by 1) of course removing the grille, bumper, upper and lower plastic pieces; 2) removing the upper fan shroud; 3) unbolting the fan itself from the fan clutch (4 bolts & didn't require removing the serpentine belt); 4) removing the lower fan shroud. From there, the upper radiator hose, then the upper and lower hoses are easily accessible, after draining the oil. Since my whole compartment was such a mess, though, I had drained and collected the AT fluid first, the oil second, the engine coolant third. After that, the entire radiator came out, and used a baster to get as much of the power steering fluid out as possible and those lines replaced. Now it's time to clean all the crap out of every cross-beam, crack and crevice before reassembly. Wish me luck.
Great vid,good job,thanks.
thanks for posting, this was helpful. did mine today
Mark Jenkins and
Nice easy explanation and what to expect!
Thanx....i got a 2000 z71 tahoe i gotta do this to, thanx again
Got er DONE ... the quick connects O rings were FUBAR . Thanx again for the guidance !
Roger That ! lol
Able2tell what o rings? the quick connectors dont have orings
any ideas on disconnecting the ac manifold line from the cooler on the passenger side. can't find one video
Nice video and Helpful. I have to do my lines and I have a much better idea on how to do it.
Judging from the Northern Accent and Rust I’m guessing NH. I’m from the northeast as well great video man thanks it was helpful for sure.
Hello Mark and thanks for the great video. Question...where does the plastic bracket that holds the two lines together attach to? Shown at 15:25 but I couldn't really see it. Is it some sort of metal bracket that hangs off the oil pan? On my truck whatever that plastic bracket clips into is not there and thus the lines are not properly supported. It was probably removed by some previous owner. A picture or diagram of what that plastic bracket attaches to would be great. Thanks.
Hi. Very helpful video. Can you tell me the orientation of the oil cooler lines on a 1997 K1500 5.7. I didn't check the orientation of the oil cooler lines before removing them. So I dont know if the top line comes out of the top of the radiator and then connects to the top port of the oil filter adapter or to the bottom port of the filter adapter? I just need to know how the hoses connect from radiator to oil filter adapter.
Can I use Teflon tape on oil lines ?
Any idea if this will fit the 1986 Chevy P30 ? In this case the P30 chassis is fitted to a Fleetwood Pacearrow Class A Motor home body. This is a 1-ton chassis I suspect that the C or K 30s would work. Am I correct?
i removed the stroud and water pump fan. gave me allot of room. i didn't use doorman crap. i bought summit heavy duty oil pipes. i also bought 2 barbs for the oil filter housing, clamped both sides. same for feed and return. a year later, not a single speck of oil leak around my pipes. best investment i ever did.
Josh Benney do you have the part #?
Chito Lopez here it is: 15112870 and 15112871, both are made by AC Delco
Josh Benney thanks
I have an s10. How do you get to the back bolt that holds the back part of the oil cooler line on? It's in between the hell housing and I want to say the transfer case.
I did this same job yesterday but remove my fan shroud it was much easier. Also it is recommended to not reuse old clips. If you need the quick connect adapters for the lines they should also come with clips. Just leave them in the adapters and pop the line in.
How many of the quick connect fitting are there? I am doing both lines next week and I would like to replace the fittings as well as prevenative maintenance
What is the name of the hose that the engine coolant line connects to that feeds the rear of truck?
You said an easier way to reach the bottom line on radiator? I didnt have open end line wrenches so i pulled the plastic fan cover off and slightly moved the remaining bottom of fan cover mount towards the engine to give enough room for a wrench to be able to be placed on the bottom bolt from inside fan housing.
I did the same thing and replaced the fittings on the filter housing because they where so corroded and rusted to the lines. I just used a tube cutter for brake lines to cut the radiator connections then used a socket to remove the pressure fittings and a bent wire to remove the old o-Rings seals. For the price of the new fittings it isn't worth having any problems down the road with leaks.
great job
Does “in” go to the top or bottom of the radiator?
Would this cause low oil prrssure if these lines are leaking
Yes, 9:58 into video I simply removed upper portion of radiator shield like 3 top bolts and 2 on each side. This allows the bottom shield to be lifted slightly and leaned forward towards the fan so you have full access to bottom oil line nut.
Very nice video thanks
Needed to see the routing !
Is it possibe that leaking coolant lines can be mistaken for a leakng rear main oi seal and is there a way to determine this
Isn't is better to put the clip first then just push the line?? Just asking
Yes I just did it and it went in real easy
Excellent. Well done. Thanks.
Any chance you have done the transmission cooling lines?
Good video, just wondering why you took the clips off the new fittings? they are quick connects, your not supposed to remove the clips from the fittings. Also the lower fitting is easier to access thru the fender well....
I was wandering about that. The clip only comes out for removal, not install.
What's part numbers dorman 626-101 is upper think what's lower
When I changed mine recently, only 1 of the Dorman lines came with a clip as well
How long does it take to replace them. And how do u find out which line is leaking
You.can have the quick connect clip installed before the line. Then the line pushes in. That's why it is tapered.
leave the clips in the fittings the lines are designed to lock into them the plastic cover just keeps the clip from coming out
If they're new connectors the clips are already in them if you just push the line in until you hear it click! Much easier than installing the clips afterward?
Top line at radiator goes to the lower port on my filter adapter. Why?
Mark, those quick disconnect fittings you show at 1:05, how did you select those? I know you said they were from ebay, but did you pick them by size or by vehicle make/year/vin/etc? I'm planning to swap the radiator on my S10 and the fittings you showed look larger than mine.
I will go to NAPA and see if they have the disconnect screw along with the lower oil line I need to change.
The quick connects on mine does not go in very far before it gets tight and can’t turn anymore like yours . I don’t want to tighten them more due to fear of stripping the housing threads.
1 question. The longer of the 2 hoses, the one that runs to the top of the radiator, does it run to the top or bottom quick connect on the oil filter housing?
Longer hose is the top. Top to top, bottom to bottom.
i got both lines one has a sticker that says "in" the other says"out" but they look exactly the same, can i use either one for upper and lower.
+Mark Jenkins thanks, one is a little longer than the other.
Removing the shroud and cooling fan gives better access too.
How long Did this take you?
I haven't completed my job YET, but I took off the air breather, fan shroud then fan then lower mostly plastic CLIPS 2 screws and 3 bolts only holding upper fan shroud. Fan comes off with Crescent Wrench and holding pressure on rear metal you will see turn when you try to apply pressure to Crescent Wrenck I used a wooden pick handle pushed against metal that was spinning and it The Fan broke and start Unscrewing Freely no longer needing Pick Handle. CLEARED the Way up Tremendously. As there's No Room and Having mostly Plastic in the way Was Too Easy To Remove.
Please help me out! What part numbers are on your lines? Can't find those lines anymore around me. Thanks!
Good question think dorman is 625-101 625-123 but I want ac delco u find em
Does the oil filter side of the cooler lines have o rings ? Or just the radiator side
hi guys I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado and looks like the bottom line threads on the radiator are stripped out any tips on how to fix that.
Eddie Rodriguez tap and dye kit
Great video
good video.
Anyone know the part number for that o ring on the oil line to the radiator?
Thank you
To get to the bottom hose on the radiator easy , is to take the top plastics part off from around the Fan and you will have more room
THANK YOU
How to install oilcooler on 6.6 duramax
removing the fan shroud would help.
That was my first thought also. Thumbs up
Thanks
hey i replaced my cooler lines on 97 chev 1500 4x4 worked find for about an hour then i began to loose oil pressure :(
+Mark Jenkins if i have some mechainc background , i did an oil change lines are on correct, everything is done as is should have been, wondering if maybe some dirt got inand worked its way to my pump screen
What size are the bolts for the oil filter housing?
The bolts that hold the housing are 1/2"
Porque no explican para una chevy 454
I'm not sure if your truck has this but mine does and I've seen a lot of other GMC's of the same year that have it as well and in the exact same spot. so if you're looking at the truck from the front on the left hand side there is some sort of Cooler. what I mean is a small radiator of some sort. I thought it was the transmission cooler but the transmission lines go into the left side of the radiator if you're looking at the front of the truck. you obviously replaced the engine oil cooling lines and they go into the right side of the radiator if you're looking at the front of the truck. so the cooler that I am talking about what is it Cooling?
Power steering
What size wrench fits the quick connect?
26mm. Shallow socket works best. Open wrench takes forever.
Anyone leaking coolant from that top oil cooler line? After she gets to operating temp she starts to leak from that area
Thanks for the clip info with Dorman brand. I'll pay the extra 10 bucks for a Delco.
What's the part number for ac delco I can't find on ebay
@@84montecarlonazi try rockauto
I have a 89 GMC Jimmy and I'm trying to temporary fix it does anyone know how and what I can do for the temp fix
Sorry. I have a 91 GMC Jimmy
i own a 96 chevy 1500 5.7L and im having problems finding out which line is the return line on the radiatior top or bottom?
Bottom
+walker93145 thank you
Did you replace the ones that go towards the back of the S10 ? There are 4 oil cooler lines ? I wonder how you get the ones that attached to the engine
Jamie Sarkisian
He showed you , thats what he did last.
+Mark Rich thanks I will watch again
Best way to do that job is by taking the fan cover of and the fan is twice as fast to replace the lines
Can you get coolant in your oil by a bad coolant line
More likely a head gasket, unfortunately.
