"It doesn't matter if you are in the last row, to the right, in the back...you are there to dance, you are there to have fun. Create your own story." Had to re-quote this morsel of brilliance. This is true in ballet and in life
Thank you so much! I love the idea of thinking of a different character for each night - we're doing 36 shows this year and I'm in snow every time, and flowers and party parent in most of them!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! Im Clara this year and I so nervous about not portraying the character correctly. This video was so informative. 🥜🩰❤️🎊
opening show for me is one week away! i am so excited and even though i have been on pointe for a while now, this will be my first time performing on pointe! I love all of your videos and this will help me so much since i will be taking on lots of roles this year!
I've always wondered as a snowflake.. should i smile? i always just kind of don't smile, then my director says we don't have stage presence or artistry
What I like to do when I have a role, especially a roll with more acting than dance or just a lot of acting needed, I like to spend time coming up with an elaborate backstory for everyone (if I have friends who have the same part I talk to them about it too) and that helps me to make the scene look more natural.
Thank you so much I am enjoying all of these Nutcracker videos as they are helpful and fun for all Nutcracker dancers like myself!! I love the one for snow, I've danced that role for a few years and I have always wondered whether or not to dance it with a smile or dance it cold. My company also has a live symphony which makes it a whole other experience with the tempo changing every performance so the letting your music be your guide truly helps :) :)
Thank you so much! My dance teacher showed me your videos and we love you! I started dance pretty late, and I was wondering if you have any tips for late dancers (I started at 11 and started pointe at 14 in February) I love you SOO much!!!
If anyone is wondering you can add a couple more questions to her 5. They are called Uta Hagens 9 questions and I would suggest writing paragraphs each for to really get in character
I would LOVE to see some older videos of you dancing in performance (or even in rehearsal) or maybe even something recent if you happen to be performing in the near future m....because I have no doubt you will be dancing professionally again very soon! Best wishes!
Katie, great ideas and very well laid out. Your video production is getting very good, too. Love the backgrounds. I'm in my first Nutcracker, as a party parent, your tips are excellent. Our studio just posted this link to our FB page for all the dancers to share. 'What is the music telling you?' Thanks again :-)
Thanks so much for the tips for snow they will help me for sure! In my studios version of nutcracker we have sugar plum and angel and in in angel corps there is only two of us so do you have tips to help me with that role? Thanks :D I love your videos!!!!
I'm curious. I've heard you mention Princess Jasmine a few times. Is she your favorite princess? :) I know you've danced Sleeping Beauty, but what about Disney Princesses?
Barbara Menezes She is actually not my favorite - I have always loved Belle and Aurora since I was little. Jasmine for some reason was the one that popped in my head! :)
It's interesting because my dance school actually has a role that I think we made up called the Neapolitans as I am one this year. I never actually knew that it was made up haha
Here is a convos with katie question: During the Nutcracker season, I get very nervous for rehearsals. My teacher can be very scary, especially when she is teaching us new choreography. Sometimes I get so nervous about it I want to puke. I try to talk with my friends/family, but they do not understand. How can I stop being so anxious?
See our dance teacher is so strange. She tells us to choreograph then put it to music. I personally think that's the opposite of what you should do but I don't argue because she my teacher. Anyone else agree or know why she is doing that?

"What are your attitudes?"
They are
Not square

Thanks so much! I'm dancing the sugar plum fairy. I'm really excited now that I understand what I'm supposed to feel and express! Thanks!!!!!

You are so hopeful and it's so cool to find these different things out from a professional. It really helps.

I know! I love the different colored bottom liner.
i never knew the different nationalities represented foods! thats so cool and creative.
Could you please do a video on the Nutcracker. I'm dancing the role this Christmas. And I don't know exactly what I should I do for his character.
What about the dolls in party scene? I'm playing Columbine doll and I'm not sure if I should smile and how I should dance it.
Mariam Gueli you’ve probably already done it but I think as a doll you should smile cus that makes sense
Thanks so much for the tips for snow they will help me for sure! In my studios version of nutcracker we have sugar plum and angel and in in angel corps there is only two of us so do you have tips to help me with that role? Thanks :D I love your videos!!!!
You didn’t talk about my part😥😥

deep breaths and write down and celebrate when it goes well. hope that helps
Could you do Gingers?
Nutcracker auditions are in a week!😁
What about the Angels?
I skipped to 9:33 because my part is act 2 introduction, not what I expected
wait...FCBA has the Russian dance and then Candy Canes. What does Russian represent then?
You said my name!!!!! I’m Carson!! 😱😱😂. Love you though! 😘
what is the song played at the beginning of the video called?
twinpanda2 It is called "Mon Coeur S'ouvre a Ta Voix" from the Opera Samson & Delilah. That intro is a snippet of my piano version for ballet class.
i remembered we have not enough of girls in the waltz of the snowflakes a male dancer had to dance it
Mine was not here I am a cat in the battle scene

RandomVideos4U I can assume she doesn’t want you to hold back because of the music. I’m not sure,
The one thing I am playing is not on here please revise this video and add gingers
Great video!! I'm a fellow youtuber and doing a viewer-correction series video every Tuesday. If you feel so inclined, come on over and correct me!
Thank you very much. It was very helpful!
