I loved your leotard video, it would be cool to do a little series like "What I Wore This Week" so each morning you quickly film your leotard/tights/warmups combo for that day and then at the end of the week compile them together into a set of all the days. That would be fun to see every now and then!
TURN OUT EXERCISES YAY! Wonderful tips here. I'm a late-start adult dancer and not looking into summer courses, but these are still just good tips for general class-taking. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us!
Thank you for posting. My daughter is 10 attending her first local intensive this year. She is not quite ready to travel but we are lucky enough to have one close enough that I can take her to each day. She loved your post and said it made her less nervous. She asked me to subscribe and create a channel so that we can watch all new ones you happen to post. Love all the make up ones too, because I'm doing her stage make up still and I have no clue. Those helped so much and I'll use those tips this year for her Nutcracker performance. Thank you so much for all the great tips.
Could you please please please do a video on what to do of you want to become a professional ballerina but your parents don't understand and want you to go to college!!!!
How was it? Can you give me a rating on it, or something like that? I'm trying to figure out what to do for the next year's summer (I'm a little late for this year) and I don't know anything about these schools, so it would be very helpful. :)
@@madelineb5184 Hello! I would recommend looking at what types of schools you would like to go too. Do you want to go to a smaller summer course to get more one on one attention or going to a bigger intensive that is hard to get into. Another thing is style do you want to do more Russian or more American style! Hope this helps.
I feel like I'm really behind because I'm 15 now and only been doing ballet for 4 years and pointe for 2 years. I'll be 16 in the spring but I have auditions for Ballet Austin this Saturday... I guess I just need some words of encouragement. 😊 Love your videos btw!
I had been doing ballet for 6 years when I was 12 I earned my first pair of point shoes, but I gave up right after. Now I'm 16 and I regret so much quitting, I completely feel in love with ballet again and I am using quarentine to get back my wasted time. I think it would be really hard, but not impossible, because when I did ballet classes I only had 1 hour class per week and didn't did shit during the other days, I just thought that 1h would be enough to be a professional and then I got depressed because I wasn't evolving and stopped. Any advice? I need all the help in the world
Thank you soooo much for this! I'm going to CPYB this summer and it's amazing to know that you went there too! Can you do an ab workout video in the future as well? Maybe one on how to learn combinations quickly and remember variations well? The food video sounds super helpful too. Your channel is an absolute life saver! It makes my day every single Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Thank you
Loved it! You are so right! I have been to courses with classmates that are so uptight and selfish. Rare is the person who is going to be friendly and not ingore you... In my experience, if you have no roommate, forget the friends, you'll be alone the whole time and if you do wrong some people will be looking down on you, like what the hell is she doing? She's so not good at this..." Whatever. I can live with that. I do struggle a lot to keep in shape and specially to stay fit. I train at an average school with classes in late afternoon, 4 or 5 days a week. Apart from that I study and have tons of work to do. I am not used to five hours a day of dance training, so I will always get extremelly exhausted and I always have to take a day or some classes off in the first week. I have the feeling that teachers stop correcting you when they see you're not applying their corrections immediately and only go back to you when they see improvement. Is that so? I hate when teachers don't ever look at me (I mean, sometimes, for more than a whole class). That doesn't help, I feel useless, low spirited and my strenght and motivation start going down. When you talk about the importance of geting the combination right at first, I have trouble with that too. I struggle with concentrartion. But we can make mistakes, right? or not? Is it that bad bad that we miss something?
Oh my goodness. I had complete déjà vu when I was watching this video! I went to Joffrey when I was 11 and I was at Marcia's barn all day every day when I was 12!!! I've gone to cpyb for the past 2 summers-now going on to my third. So glad I can hear great advice from a city ballet pro:)
Thank you so much for this video! I found it so helpful and really love how honest you are about your experiences :) I'm an Australian going San Francisco for the summer and it will be my first time doing a summer course so I really appreciate all your tips! Keep making videos :)
Thank you so much for this video. You are such an amazing dancer and I wish you the best in your career. I'm going to a one week ballet program at the beginning of September, but, I haven't danced in 7 months due to injuries. Can you make a video on how dancers can pace themselves to be ready for summer programs after injuries?
My first day of summer intensives are tomorrow, so thank you so much for this video! I'm definitely looking forward to the food videos, maybe you could make one about "what a dancer eats in a day"? It would be so helpful! (even though im sure anything you come up with will be fantastic)
Thank you so much for making this video! It was so helpful this summer! Would you consider making a video on exercises to help your extensions? I too have really long arms and legs and I struggle with extensions:) thank you so much for doing what you do!
Thanks soooo soo much for these tips!! I'm going to my first summer course ever in two weeks and I just didn't know anything about how it will be or something like that soo this video is such a help! thank you very very much
I'm a belly dancer (not ballet ;) but it sounds so similar!). Potatoes are great for lunch. I boil and peel them and take them with me. They are easy and quick to eat and gave me a lot of energy. Apples are also great. In the evening I have veggies and legumes.

I'm going to the Royal Ballet Intensive in Dallas on July 31. It's my first intensive ever! I'm so nervous! I quit ballet for about 3 years and I started back last year, in the beginning of the school year, so this is my second year back! :/ :) Yay. Can't wait, but I'm super scared.
What would your advice be to someone who wants to be considered for a trainee at a summer program? Should they talk to directors of the trainee program? Thank you so much! I love the videos!
Great video Katie. Not sure if the bloopers were an intentional part of the lesson, but to me, it shows that you are not perfect and that EVERYTHING needs corrections and patience to get things right. Great thing to show in a lesson on intensive summer classes. Also, that lipstick is a lovely shade for you.
Hey Katie! I love your vids so much, they are so helpful in setting yourself up well for dancing! I am going into level C1 at SAB this year, could you give us some tips on how to prepare for a winter term?
Hi Kathryn! I really, really love your channel! It's so incredibly helpful. My best friend and I are going to audition for the very first time this upcoming season. We're both fourteen. Are there any specific things that we should know before we audition? Thank you so much.
Just wanted to ask if you had any tips on how to prepare for your summer course if your ballet school is no longer having classes. I loved this video! Thank you for sharing with the dance world😘
I actually go to the Joffrey Ballet School! It is only 2 minutes away from my house. Last summer, I had my first summer intensive experience there. I am almost 12 and I’m definitely going there this summer!
so glad for this video! I'm going to cpyb this summer and I'm SO nervous because I've never been before, and I'm so nervous that everyone will hate me!!
i just finished the 2015 summer course at cpyb. i dance there year round and it is so much fun. i just had my last pointe class this evening. i have been dancing since 4 and im 11 now and i couldnt ask for a better school to train at!!! :)
I'm 15 and have never been to a summer intensive. Is it a bad idea to audition for a summer intensive. Do you think it is possible to be accepted or would my technique be too weak?
This was super helpful! Thanks so much! I actually have a question, I'm going to be flying to my summer intensive in nine days by myself, do you have any tips for packing? Is there anything you wish you had brought with you for the dorm rooms?
Does anyone have any tips for getting scholarships? I love to dance and these summer intensives would be an amazing experience, but I won't be able to go if I don't have a scholarship, my parents just cannot afford it.

Hi Katie! I loved your summer course video series :) very helpful. I was wondering about dress code. Ex. SAB requires a black leo for ballet and white for pointe and variations. They do allow to have a trim color but I was wondering if you think that would be a good idea? Do you think it would be better to have that pop of color in your hair rather than as a trim on your leotard? Thanks! xoxo Btw all of your videos are so helpful I literally find very thing on your channel 😘 fave UA-camr!
Hi Katie! I love all of your videos and you are a huge inspiration to me, positivity and ballet-wise! I want to audition for my first Summer Intensive this year. I am somewhat of a late starter I guess you could call it. I started dancing when I was 13 (beginning of 2013) and I am now 14 (this will be my second year of ballet). I am on pointe, which I began in early September. My question is, I don't know whether I would be able to audition for some of the companies that I really want to go to because I am not intermediate on pointe. My pointe work at the barre is pretty good, but my pirouettes are horrible! I know I will be a lot better by the time the actual SI rolls around, but I don't know if it will in time for the audition! Should I wait to audition? Any tips?

How does dinner quality transfer to muscle soreness?? And courses never seem to let us choose our foods, I'm pretty sure there is a pretty set meal program at the Cafeterias there...
Does the last picture for your second summer intensive at SAB have Raina Gilliland in it??( I know that this is an old video but if you can, please reply!)
I've been doing ballet for a while but only started taking it seriously at 13 (wanted to take it as a courier) I feel as if I'm behind some people who are younger than me! is it bad that I haven't done summer schools since I was 11? ❣❤️ I'm 14 now and in Feb I'm going to ENB for a weekend course so it's starting well this year! Any tips on this feeling of being behind?! Thank you xxxxxxx
After class if I have certain questions about a step that we did that day or a variation or something, is it acceptable to go up to the teacher and ask them about it or should I just have asked them during class
Hi Kathryn (or anyone else reading this pls respond!) I'm not sure if you'll see this but I'd really like some advice! I am fairly new to dance (2nd year even though I'm 15 years old) but I am en pointe and quite on-level, I work really hard, and I love ballet. I would love to do a summer intensive but am not planning to dance professionally or anything like that. Is it even worth while to audition for any programs? How do I know which are right for me? Do I even have a shot at any programs or will I be completely drowned by super highly-trained 8 year olds better than I'll ever be??? Help!
georgia n I have no idea if you’ll get in but you should go for it! - a 21 year old who started late hoping to audition for the Joffrey intensive next summer
BREATHE! First and foremost. Then just remember you are unique, and focus on being the best you can. Also remember nothing is set in stone, so if you are disappointed in your level, if you continue to perform your best, it could get changed! :)
I loved your leotard video, it would be cool to do a little series like "What I Wore This Week" so each morning you quickly film your leotard/tights/warmups combo for that day and then at the end of the week compile them together into a set of all the days. How does dinner quality transfer to muscle soreness?? And courses never seem to let us choose our foods, I'm pretty sure there is a pretty set meal program at the Cafeterias there...

Does anyone know about Ballet Chicago's summer program, what it's like, if it's good, etc? I'm going to audition but i can't find much online
Is it bad to ask questions ?
PS . Great video
YOU UNDERSTAND ME!!!!!!
Does the year round program mean you leave school? Xx

- a 21 year old who started late hoping to audition for the Joffrey intensive next summer
hi! whats ur thoughts of pnb summer?
I'm going to cpyb summer 2019 (:
How do you get over the nerves of Placement class the first day?
BREATHE! First and foremost. Then just remember you are unique, and focus on being the best you can. Also remember nothing is set in stone, so if you are disappointed in your level, if you continue to perform your best, it could get changed! :)
I just started dancing when I was 13 and I'm about to turn 15 in April. Would it be weird if I was put in a lower technique class at my age?
No! Definitely not. That is true about me. I'm 12 and in a class of 9 year olds. It's weird at first, but you get used to it.
how old do you have to be?
It all depends on the one your going to, some will start at age 7 while others will start at age 13
wait- is that autumn klein? (6:59)
Could you please please please do
A combo of Jean Simmons and Vivienne Leigh
