Really enjoy watching your channel! So in depth! I've always been into Swiss brands. I recently brought my first Seiko and I'm addicted! Its so affordable, yet good quality too! I already own 3 Seiko and I'm not planning to stop there!
That two-piece Vario strap on the Green Alpinist just nails it! I own a SARB017 and just the bought the same exact strap ... guess what I'll be doing this afternoon. Good review!
I paid $975 Australian. That’s a little less than current retail. I really like the bracelet but the clasp is almost identical to the SARB’s 033/035 & has that annoying gap.
I've owned the SARB017 for almost a year now and still have interest in the SPB117, even if there is so much overlap in use cases between the two. Mostly having trouble justifying the price, considering the overlap.
check the dealer links in the video description, do they ship to the UK? I purchased my 2020 Alpinist from there and it's an amazing value for around $600 USD
Thanks for the comparison! I am actually looking for a new Seiko watch and this is the one I'm also considering. I have a hard time choosing between the new SRPD97/99, (450$) the SARB033/035 (500$) or the new alpinist in black/cream dial (650$) - those are local prices in Germany btw. All of those above are really similar to each other. 38-39mm cases, black or white/cream dial, sapphire crystal, exhibition caseback and: all of them are strap monsters.. Which one would you recommend?
Go with SARB033/035 or the old Alpinist (SARB017); if you don't mind spending a bit more, go for the new alpinist, but bear in mind there are more Alpinist models coming in 2021. SRPD97/99 has an inferior movement, compared to the 6R15 in the previous ones.
I have the previous generation green Apinist. If I was to buy another. I think I’d go blue if was possible . The Alpinist Is a controversial watch, many go from disdain to. Eh. I love mine. To each there own? I’ll stick with my older green. Cream non guilt is real nice as well. Not sure if I’d get it on bracelet. Never liked Seiko’s bracelet. Save the money at pos and get a strapcode later.
They need to take that black dial one and make it in blue with the dial markers is has and without the arabic numerals and NOT make it a limited edition.
All very beautiful Seikos but the green Alpinist just has that 'it's or 'x' factor that makes it special. The others seem to have gone more main stream. The green original reminds me of my skx007j1. Time will tell.....
This is the success and the power of an individual who is rich to pay for a quality watch from (thirty-four jewels movement) the style of the watch is very unimportant but the mechanism occupies a major place in the industry. It means, buy a twenty three jewels watch, it means mr everyone at low wages from the 3rd class. and it's a shame, it's reality! Me, watchmaker and jeweler for over 77 years retired. S&W. This watch at the price it sells for, would need a movement with at least 30 jewels because of the high asking price!
New anti-reflective coating in the glass, newer movement with 20 hour increase, better strap included with clasp and nice cyclops for a nice touch of style. Very much worth it.
Aside from the slightly improved movement, it seems like a downgrade in every way. They stripped out almost all of what made it interesting and charming. And it costs 2X what the Sarb017 cost when it was released. Seiko's lost their damn mind.

James Carter so do I!! I got the army green; not sure if the strap in the video is that colour or khaki
Thanks for the video and comparison of the three Alpinists 👏👍
I'm loving the new colorways and variety but the original will likely always have my heart💚. Thank you for the comparison!
Great job and thanks for bringing all three together.
I have the new black Alpinist and it’s worth every penny.
what about the bracelet, is it of good quality?
@@adamiral I have it too and yes it's great quality
what kind of deal can you get on one of these new black ones? Thanks.
@@private464 in Italy, shop on line, you can buy it fpr 542 €

The black one looks way better. I'm sold.
Owned a white and black alpinist, but kept the green SARB017 - that color just outshined the rest of the pack! 👌
U synchronised the second hands.... Awesome

Love the new 2020 version they are already selling here for £900 here in UK as you cannot get hold of them

Import tax in the UK is horrible! Luckily I managed to get mine from a UK seller so no import tax :)
3 classics. Would go for the white myself.
I was fortunate to get the blue recently at a good price.cI put it on the Ginnault bracelet and it looks great
I found Rolex’s sub bracelet will fit the Alpinist (I have the blue). Fits very nicely and I love the taper and adjustability of the glide lock.
They should have a sculpted Mt. Fuji on the back. Like the wave but a mountain.

Really nice strap on the SARB017.
Great review. Wish they did the black dial with the numerals as opposed to the "sharks teeth". Toss up between the old and new...
Cam someone link me to the strap he uses on the green 017, thanks
What about accuracy?

How much you want for that blue Alpinist?

fuck, i saw the blue one on the hodinkee.com, when i clicked "Add to cart" it was gone :(
The black dia version looks lovely, but the new Alpinists are so expensive.
It's worth it!
@@pancakemallard6000 worth the new alpinist?
I have an 017 , and don’t like the bug eye on the new one, might look better live! Hope so.
You picked the perfect strap for the 017. Oof
I'm so sad I couldn't get the 017
ay wheres these baby alpinist leaks hes talking about though? i can't find anything about em online ...
Charlton Pepper , oh, there will be , the world is full of experts.

you may have answered already , alvaro two piece
Old is still best ...#
Prospex logo, see thru case back, unsigned crown, cyclops and added thickness.. No thanks ill keep my Sarb017.

@@cedric182 It's not the real alpinist dude
Green = 🤢🤮
Agree with you, cyclops looks so ugly
Love my old Sarb017, the new ones simply dont have that special something
yeah, thats why theyre selling a lot.
Green is not for everybody 🤢🤮
@@maitrehg correct. I just bought the black one (spb117) and I love the cyclops - it’s 2.5x magnification so it really helps
The added thickness completely ruins the new models. Also the 6r35 is nothing to stare at.

Are you serious dude ?
017 best ever
Only if you like green 🤢🤮
