Ranking EVERY World Cup Winning Captain

- From Premier League goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, to Ballon d'Or winning centre-back Fabio Cannavaro, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, HITC Sevens attempts to rank every FIFA World Cup winning captain from worst to best.

Fritz Walter was the greatest captain ever. He cared for every single player of the 1954 squad, organized reunions, helped them in difficult times and even cared for their families after they died. A true leader.
Fritz Walter is a German legend
@@e.l.b6435 He is a legend in world football and in Germany´s (political) history. Invented modern football, was one of the first players who used tricks to score and to pass. Without a doubt one of the best players who ever lived.
The quality of this list is immense, not gonna lie.
That's true! I didn't expect Meazza to rank that high... : D
I knew Meazza would score highly, at least somewhere within the top five. The general quality of the list is unsurprisingly very high.
Yeah
Calling someone a "water carrier" wasn't an insult. It came from cycling and meant a great teammate who supports the more attacking players.
I think Cantona meant it as an insult though. I cannot see them being mates off the pitch, but I could be wrong since they played together at Marseille.
@@br1c3led Cantona was always a bit of a troll, so it was likely a playful rib
The actual quote was, "“He gets by because he gives 100%, but he will never be more than a water carrier,” and they had a big fallout afterwards, so I think it's safe to assume it was pejorative in the context that Cantona said it.
@@HITCSevens please can you rank all English teams in order of club size and history please
@@NoName-jo2mm no don't do that please please no
Pretty accurate rankings although I'd have put Lahm a few places higher.
Bobby Moore top 5 just because he is British...other than that the list was mostly accurate, maybe Dino Zoff should have gone higher since he is a bonafide legend of his position
@Hidden Sword they weren't as good
R.I.P Don Diego , the greatest international player to ever do it !
I’m actually so happy lloris won a World Cup. Will go down as one of the top 10 goalkeepers of his generation and devoted his life to Tottenham. Very happy to see has something to show for it
True. Very true.
Hope he eventually wins something with Tottenham as well...
@@GrimReaper-er8uu They were close to win PL title a few years ago,but i believe they were unable to handle the pressure.
@@alexanderpehlivanov1653 they've been *close* to a lot of things... But winning them is a different story...
Shame he’s dog shit now though. And top 10? Really? Neuer, Ter Stegen, Allison, Ederson, Buffon, Casillas, Courtois, Oblak, Navas, De Gea, Handanovic, Cech, Seaman, Friedel, Van Der Sar. Shall I go on?
Day 27: 7 worst players who scored a hattrick in either the premier or champions league
A very opinionated topic? ooh controversy i love it
The worst is probably Yakubu, he is responsible for the worst open goal miss ever.
@@prometheustv6558 Yak and Torres are tied for the worst open goal miss imo
@@n.mirage3904 sterling is up there he has many such misses
Luiz adriano scored 5 goals in a match in the champions league lol
Lloris’ game against Uruguay will not be forgotten. Kept us alive
1 & 2 are Maradona and Beckenbaur, they pic themselves.
The rest however...
Think I’ll enjoy this one!
when you unveiled maradona and the picture of him up on the screen, i got chills
rest in power king 💙
Finally! A good video to eat to... My meal will be legendary
16:35 - Franz Beckenbauer didn't lift the Jules Rimet trophy. Brazil won it for keeps in 1970. In 1974, Kaiser was the first captain to lift the present day version of the trophy..
Day 2: San Marino XI that beat Liechtenstein in 2004, where are they know? 😂😂😂
where are they now? probably still celebrating that victory somewhere in San Marino
The GK is in The kitchen, defenders are probably somewhere in court defending someone, strikers are enrolled in Italy’s army and midfielders are now fishermen, trying to fish some assists
Ranking every world cup winning Manager as Players
Hard to do since not all of them were players
@@prometheustv6558 wouldn't be the first time. He ranked managers as players before and he literally tried to fiend out how they did in Sunday league 😂
1.Beckanbauer. Maybe?
@@amirfilmy I can’t think of a better player who was a World Cup winning manager.
@@amirfilmy Maradona is the only better player who managed at a world cup so yes 1000%
Fun fact: Dunga holds the all time record for most completed passes in a single world cup at 1994, 50 passes ahead of second place Xavi in 2010. He's also the only one to appear in the top 10 twice from his 1998 performance as well
Since you mentioned Ronald Koeman, we shouldn't forget that today is the birthday of the famous Dutch who won Barcelona their first Champions League. Happy birthday, legend :))
Did you know, he used to play for Barcelona?
Amd he'll ahain win one as a manager in the future

Cafu, only player to appear in 3 world cup finals... in a row!
Matthaüs did that as well
@@naamanmacdonald3335 i think Matthaus didn’t play the 1982 final
but he’s still the one who played most WCs ever; playing 5

@@acidrazor66 who Cafu? No he’s not
Thanks for this!
Wow, I didn't expect you putting Lothar 3rd, that is awesome. The first two were no brainers. Absolutely with you there. Being German, I actually forgot about the 90 Captain even though I watched the game. Can you do the same for the Euros?
As someone who watches a lot of (ice) hockey, it’s interesting to see how this list is dominated by defenders and central midfielders, compared to hockey where the offensive star players usually get the captaincy at very young age.
I can't really understand why compared to hockey, as i don't watch much hockey, but there doesn't really seem to be a midfield in hockey. In futbol the midfield isn't just bigger and more important, but its own battlefield. Having a stud that can defend in midfield and create chances by winning possession is so critical. Watching Argentina for years, Mascherano pretty much held it together almost all his own at times but Argentina pretty much failed Messi and the generational attackers with the midfield.
@@DaleRojoDecaf That does make a lot of sense. In hockey you have 2 defenders (who have become more active playmakers in the modern game, very similarly to CBs in football), a center who basically plays like both a creative and a defensive midfielder in football (some more offensively skilled and others more defensively inclined) and 2 wingers. With the smaller playing surface, positions become much more fluid also (defenders can end up in the opponent's corner and a center can sometimes be the last man defending a 2v1) .
But there's definitely a different view on captaincy there, with seniority not being as big of a deal as in football (also defenders usually break into the pros at a later age than centers or wingers).
Love your work brother♥️

Should bobby Moore not be lower in the list?
English players being overinflated, nothing new.
Especially by Alfie
@@thomaskendell8146 or any English person in general
Putting Moore ahead of Lahm is just insane
@@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa Why?
You know what you need? A counter on the screen at all times.
I pretty much agree with everything in the list, although I’d but Lahm a few places higher. The top 3 is spot on.
What a squad this would have been - the only issue of course would be that it would be very defence heavy.
If it was to be a starting 11 you may need some of the full backs to play as wingers.
Nice Video 👏
Nasazzi was one of the first Sweepers in football. Back then the outside rule was prominent since there were only 2 defenders but he was one of the first players that actually went up the field to link up with the centerhalf whom was - and to a lesser extent still is - the engine of Uruguayan football att.
As far as Varela he was so furious at Brazilian attitude towards the Uruguayan team that the day before the final he purchased 22 newspapers whose front page read ''Brazil Supreme World Champions and Nothing Else Matters'' and told his team mates to urinate on them.
Can't believe Jose Nasazzi is that low. That Uruguay team a century ago was an absolute world beater. They won 3 international tournaments in a row, the Olympics in 1924 and 1928, and the World Cup in 1930.
I would put Nasazzi in the top 10.
Agree. Top 5-6 for me. I rank him as the fourth greatest central defender of all time, only second to Beckenbauer, Baresi and Moore. He is south americas best central defender - better than Passarella and Figueroa.
Messi has to top this list now

Rank every World Cup Golden Ball winner next! And although the award started in 1982, use your best judgment on who should’ve won in the prior editions
Video idea : *Every golden boot winner since 2000 in la lilga*
Yes !!
Maybe a ranking of all World Cup runners up captains? Might be a more varied list
You are really underrating José Nasazzi. He was clearly the best defender before the WW2 and probably the greatest central defender before the likes of Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer and Elias Figueroa entered the game in the 1960s-1970s.
1. Diego Maradona
2. Franz Beckenbauer
3. Lothar Matthäus
4. Bobby Moore
5. José Nasazzi
6. Giuseppe Meazza
7. Dino Zoff
How do you rank Cannavaro 14th when he won the ballon d'or and fifa best player that year (even if they were debatable)?
This is perplexing
Day 3: Can you make a short documentary about Bury FC? Giving the fact that this team is not exist anymore, it will be another great documentary for this channel.
Bury FC have gone but now there reborn as Bury AFC
I am firmly of the opinion that Alfie underrates Fritz Walter.

Happy birthday to Lothar Matthäus, the captain of the best German WC squad ever, only the best on his 60th birthday 🎊🎉🍻😉❤⚽️🇩🇪
Overall I think that the 2014 Squad was way better. Especially in GK and Defensive department. But of course in the midfield and attack the 1990 squad had some of the biggest names of german football.
@@murasame1450 You underestimate the defenders in 1990: Augenthaler was a great sweeper, Buchwald and Kohler made no mistakes during the tournament, well, Brehme and Reuter were world-class. 1990 had it all and the better coach 😉
@@javimarquez13 Well if you had to make a team out of both of the squads I would choose as such. Neuer in Goal is a given, Lahm is one of the best RB of all time, I think that Boateng and Hummels in 2014, especially Boateng, are the best CBs. Kohler instead of Hummels could be debatable. For LB Brehme is an easy pick. Then Midfield is really difficult But I would pick Matthäus, Schweinsteiger, Müller and Thon. Of course Khedira, Özil, Kroos, Littbarski and Häßler are also top picks. And finally Klose and Völler as attackers. Götze was also really in 2014 and Klinsmann of course is also a good choice. So in the end my team with the best players would be 7 to 4 for 2014.
@@murasame1450 Kohler and Buchwald in their prime 1990 were way better than Hummels and Boateng in 2014, Litti instead of Thon, Völler and Klose, easy but overall the whole 1990 squad 😉
It's good to see the argentinian captains so high, they truly were amazing players
You should do the history of the west German 1954 team
Great Video! I only consider Carlos Alberto Torres and Bellini should be higher on that list, but that's my personal opinion.
I have a video suggestion to make: you could talk about, from a englishman perspective, which individual award is more prestigious and has the fairest criteria - the Ballon D'or x The Fifa Best Player Award (today known as FIFA The Best).
It's funny, 'cause from a Brazilian perspective, the FIFA award' is normally more renowned, for being the more "official one", from Football's main Entity. The Ballon D'or got more well known around here arguably in the last two decades, since it was exclusively for Europeans up until 1995. To me, It seems the France Football award is more important for europeans, due to It's tradition.
I'd like to hear Alfie's opinion on this topic. Greetings! 😁🇧🇷

I notice that majority of the winning captains are defensively minded or positional players.
I alway said that strikers or attacking players don’t need to be captains. They have enough pressure to perform and win games than to lead teammates. Pele said that he didn’t need to be captain as he led without the armband.
This is why players like Messi doesn’t need to be captain. Don’t need more pressure on him. Messi should give the captains armband to a defender and just be free to play without marshalling his teammates.
