10 Poorest towns in Arkansas.
Today we are going to take a look at Arkansas and the mess that it is.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the national poverty rate was 11.8% percent or 38.1 million Americans in 2018. These states have the highest percentages of poverty in the country: Mississippi, New Mexico, Louisiana, West Virginia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, District of Colombia, Oklahoma, South Carolina and the territory of Puerto Rico.
So why are we starting with Arkansas? Last month I got an email from a guy named Glen in Little Rock who said
I best not put Arkansas in my mouth again. He said he’d find me and pull me out of my electric car and crush my head.
I replied: Dude how did you watch my video, you are using AOL dial-up service.
He replied. What’s wrong with that.
I replied “Nothing if it were 1997.
He never replied again. So, in Glen's honor, I am putting Arkansas back in my mouth and we are going to look at the poorest towns in Arkansas.

I have lived in Arkansas my entire life. Grew up poor, was clean, raised with good manners and lots of love. Was taught to love God, my neighbor, respect my elders and don’t judge others. Just a few basic principals to guide you through life. I was born poor and still have most of it. Proud to be from Arkansas😁

Good on you and good on your family for raising your right. I’ve know plenty of folks who use the excuse of poverty to be trash. Being broke doesn’t mean you gotta be poorly mannered.
I'm with you Brother. We drew tires and windows on pecans and rocks and pushed them around in the dirt instead of Hot wheels. Poured buckets of water on the creek banks and played on mud slides all day. Picked up bottles for candy money. Wrote letters. Mowed our older neighbors grass. Took care of our grandparents and parents till they died. That's real living.
I moved to Arkansas from a big city. Never found more love and compassion in my life. Screw the the haters.
I grew up in Santa Barbara California and now I live in NW Arkansas. I left Calufornia in 1988 and relocated here.
It was culture shock for me. Very different. Took over a decade to adapt.
At oresent I have a house on 2 acres in the beautiful Ozark mountains. I live a stone's throw from Eureka Springs.
My home is paid off, I have gardens, chickens, rabbits and fruit trees (akso bees). I've learned to hunt and butcher game and I go fishing in world class trout rivers.
My lifestyle is low pressure, I am extremely healthy and have many many friends.
None of this could have been possible had I stayed in Cali.
I absolutely love it here in Arkansas.
We're going to be neighbors shortly and cannot wait for that breath of relief as I escape the demoncratic state of WA. It used to be such an amazing place, but it hasn't felt like home for years now and immediately upon seeing the Ozarks it felt like home used to, before the greed and politics ruined it.

I was born in Arkansas over 70 years ago, but I spent most of my life in Northern Indiana and SW Michigan. I recently returned from a four day trip back to Arkansas, and yes there is poverty there, just as there is poverty in innercity Chicago, Detroit, and other large cities. Money does not maker a person better! What matters is support you receive from your family, friends, and community. None of my family in Arkansas are wealthy, but that does not matter. For the most part they are all hardworking, kind and generous. I will take that any day over the pompas lifestyle of the upperclass subdivisions of the “upper class."

I was born in Arkansas in 1963 and have lived here all my life. I will die here as well because it's home and truly a great place to live. There is not a state in the country that doesn't have once heathy towns that are now struggling and financially distraught due to industry going obsolete or leaving town. Every town you mentioned, at one time, had a vibrant past that attracted people to come and work, play, and raise a family. You're absolutely right that these towns are probably not great places to move to, but there are many many places in this state that people come visit and never want to leave, eventually moving there to enjoy the rest of their lives. The cost of living here is so much less than most places in this country that it doesn't take a six figure income to live comfortably and have nice things. Yes we have a certain amount of poverty, but so does every other state. Most of the people that trash our wonderful state have never even seen it. They watch videos like this that highlight the poorest communities in the state and assume that's what every town is like. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I've never understood why people thinks it's so much fun to focus on the negative.

Benton Arkansas is actually really nice as well and you can get great views of the thunderstorms
I was born in Fort Smith but raised on the west coast. My old man worked construction and so do I. I'm almost 60, ready to retire and looking at real estate in Arkansas. Some of the poorest people in small towns can be the richest in character and generosity. The patients are running the asylums on the west coast.

Your comment was some time ago but the real estate has changed for the worse now. The people who live and work in Arkansas can no longer afford to buy due to people moving from out of State. And we pay more than the National average for groceries now too.

@@Mortem_inrita_non_potes I own 100 acres outside of Clinton. We had a few Yankees move in here, too, and instantly start complaining about the neighbors who've lived there for generations. They shut up when we suggested the assessor pay there places a visit to re-evaluate their property taxes.

English Rob there are some single women and decent looking if you can get by the missing teeth. Been in Arkansas all my life and and almost all the good looking woman are beautiful until you get to laughing and their missing teeth shows. I met a beautiful woman just outside Little Rock and invited her to a nice restaurant. Everything was fine until she started farting. When she farted she would laugh and thought that was so funny. The management finally asked us to leave because other people was complaining about her farting. I wound up going to Louisiana to get a woman. Much better choice because they can cook out of this world. Less missing teeth to. Mine only has one tooth gone on her lower front. Not too bad heh?
I used to live in CA and NY- after you adjust for cost of living, both of those states have higher poverty rates than AR (CA being significantly higher). People love to talk shit about Arkansas, but the reality is that a middle class income there will afford you a much better and lower stress life than almost anywhere else in America. I wouldn't recommend moving to any of the towns on this list, but moving to Arkansas was the best move of my life.

this is true. Bought a home in little rock for 140,000. My cousin was visiting town and said my house would be worth at least 900,000 in LA. Idk how people can afford to live there.
CA's poverty rate is 25% - the highest in the country.
It's not that simple Robert. Like every state, there are good and bad areas. In general, all of the cities with greater than 50,000 people are perfectly fine. Little Rock and Fort Smith have some shady areas, but it's no worse than any city. Most of Arkansas's poverty and consequently its crime, is focused in the very rural parts of the state. Similar to CA. Sure LA is wealthy, but drive an hour east and you're in the shit hole known as San Bernidino.
@@robertjames6890 I've lived in AR nearly 10 years, and fortunately I've never had anything stolen. I cannot say the same about my much briefer time in CA. The difference is that my income allows me to live in a much nicer neighborhood in AR than what I could afford in CA. High crime neighborhoods? I just don't have to interact with them much. You can't just look at bulk statistics and conclude that an entire state is good or bad- way too simple-minded.

I am originally from Michigan and was transplanted to Arkansas by the Air Force. My family and I have lived here now for 25+ years and just built our retirement home on the outskirts of Little Rock. People are way friendlier in the south and I like the ruralness of the state.

I've lived in Arkansas all of my life and always told my kids get a education and leave to find jobs they did and they all came back. I think people here are just happy with less I mean we all got nice TVs pretty good trucks and heat and air and we eat good what else does a person need to be happy? And everyone knows a bootlegger and a horticulturist will some fine Arkansas homegrown. It ain't bad and I wouldn't leave her.

A lot of those poor folks probably have a better level of happiness than others that are looked at as being financially well off. I used to live in a poor village of 87 people and it still feels happier there than anywhere else I've lived so far.
I’ve been living in the Ozarks for the last decade or so. I manage a small organic grocery and I have a modest homestead. We live very well from one income and homeschool our three beautiful children. Here life is good even when it ain’t. The land is beautiful and the people are some of the nicest I’ve met.
Ozarks is gorgeous I drove through there during a cross country trip and loved it

I retired here in 2017 from New Orleans. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to look out and see deer wandering the roads instead of people wearing ankle monitors. Beautiful scenery and outdoor activities, and the people who are from here have been very kind and welcoming.

@Cobb Knobbler North Tennessee and Kentucky is better, because it isn't as far south. I would pick North Tennessee, because they don't have a state income tax. Kentucky has 5% and arkansas has 6.5% . . so you don't need neither of those withholding's from your SS check.

I grew up in prosperous Northwest Arkansas...basically, the Ozarks. It’s such a good place to live. The quality of life there ranks very high nationally. In addition, the region’s natural beauty is extraordinary. I live in the Seattle area now and I can tell you that Northwest Arkansas is as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest. Sadly, many areas of Arkansas have not been as lucky. If I ever have the opportunity to move back, I will.

I live in Arkansas. About 600 people. No Stop lights in town. A river runs along the town. Lakes to fish in and woods to hunt. I bought a 3bed Brick home for 23,000 2 yrs ago. Cost of living is low here. I wouldn't say most people are below the poverty line. I moved from California to Arkansas 5 years ago. I love it here.
Lived in arkansas for a long time now and I have to say moving here was the best decision I could have made so I wouldnt be talking to much shit on Arkansas we are very proud people
We lived in Arkansas for several years and attended the University of Arkansas. I loved it there. I have never even heard of these places he's talking about in this video.

I have lived and traveled all over the world, and Arkansas is my home and I came back here because even though we might not be rich we have something money can’t buy. Friends that become family if someone’s didn’t have something they need we step up and help each other. This state has some of the BEST people you can find. I live in Russellville and it’s population is around 30,000 people small town with a big town feel ❤️

I had a delivery job driving all over Arkansas. It was beautiful. For about two weeks. Then it got old QUICK.
As a brit who visited arkansas to see friends who live in a small town. I have to say. Most people are really friendly and would share everything they have, very welcoming and a much slower pace of life. Bit of a culture shock to a city boy. But I loved it great people.
You can visit but don't stay.

I am a Brit who married a girl from AR . And you are 100% spot on. The people there are fantastic . Salt of the earth. Coming from SE England it was a bit of a culture shock at first . But it dont take long to feel welcomed & comfortable . You dont need to scratch too far beneath the surface to realise we are pretty much the same either . Quite unique compared to other States.

My family has lived in Vandervoort said, Vander-vort, Cove, and Wicks for over 125 years. My nephew is the pastor of the church shown in the pictures of Vandervort.
When the logging industry left the towns struggled to survive. But they are the kindest people you will ever meet.

Arkansas is only mountainous in the northern part of the state, and even then, mostly central Arkansas going west. The Northwest corner is the last of the Ozark Mountains. Most everything else is flat.
I’m guessing that pedo you keep asking about has farmland in the eastern part of the state. Lot of rice farming there. He has land and water rights all over the nation. Nothing I can do about it, so I don’t lose any sleep over it.

As a lifelong Californian, Arkansas is put in an extremely negative light. It’s actually SO BEAUTIFUL and the people are wholesome, polite, sweet, inviting, warm. Little Rock is a BEAUTIFUL city….CLEAN streets , beautiful river!

As I said before this was about 11 years ago. Now everywhere I go all I see is trash trash trash. I mean how do we accumulate sooo much trash and then just throw it out of the car window or worse throw it in the rivers when boating. It's awful now. And I am a true born and bred Delta Arkansan. It is such a beautiful state. People just need to learn to keep their trash and not add to the growing litter problem.
Try the Arkansas Highway Dept., and Governors Hotline. (&) Since the Trash problem, will lower Tourism dollars, they probably will respond! Only takes 20 minutes maximum to let these 'paid' Government workers know. ( Years ago, Texas had a highway, etc., Trash problem. The State began a program to clean it up, that 'still' is effective today called "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS".😉

Reading some of the comments here about how some of these rural communities are, I have to agree with them. My family on my dad's side are from Arkansas. I didn't get the chance to grow up around them, but later in life I was fortunate to finally meet them. None of them are well off yet they possess a grace and goodness that astonished me. My folks on my mom's side are all successful, highly educated, upper middle class but they don't have even a fraction of the class my Arkansas relatives have. Yeah, I know there's bad people in Arkansas just like there's bad people every where, but alot of those people you portray in those small poor communities are quality people.
I lived in Arkansas and got my first place out there, I'm originally from new Mexico but there's nowhere else in the U.S. like the south, I love my home state but people are too stupid there and think everyone down here is racist (I now reside in Louisiana), moving to Arkansas was the greatest move I've made and I loved it there.

I can say this. As a lifelong resident of West Memphis, Arkansas, I have gotten by pretty well. I just reached another tax bracket ($30,000 range), and I'm doing okay. If you manage your funds right, you can actually live a fairly decent life here.
My grandpa lived in Arkansas for a bit, we visited, and I thought it was pretty nice. Very beautiful.
However, my only concern is it is the only state in the US where your landlord can kick you out if you're a day late on rent, and police are called to evict you with no notice. And, you can go to jail, just because the landlord has a lawyer. I don't know, that's scary to me. I rent, and I can't imagine that. Scary stuff, so that makes me hesitant to living there.. unless I was buying.

I also grew up poor in Arkansas, I'm from one of the bigger poverty stricken towns (Pine Bluff) and I just wanted to say I have no objection to your videos about Arkansas, and feel like the rest of the country should be aware of the issue of poverty in the southern states. By the way, there is nothing wrong with being poor, I had a wonderfully '"rich" upbringing, full of love, learning, and good old southern hospitality and kindness. I wouldn't trade my poor southern roots for all the money in the world. I would like to defend you by saying that this video was not "offensive" in any way, and while I'm not nay-saying anything you discussed here, if you really wanted to know (not many people would care) a "Mexican Market" is usually the Arkansas term for a bodega. They are not always owned by Mexican families, but are there to serve the Hispanic community of that area by offering a wide variety of items they would be accustomed to having access to back home that are not commonly found in American stores.

I love Joplin ... I worked there on several occasions (construction) always enjoyed it very much . Used to go to the Black Thorn bar in down town, breakfast place right next to railroad on main street . I haven't been there since 2012 I still talk about my Joplin days. I've been all over America and will say SW Missouri is one my favorite places to visit. I thought about moving to Joplin in the past . It's still an idea . Thx .

My mom was born and raised in Arkansas. Only a dirt path to their home, no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Water was brought from the spring as well as storage of food items in that same spring. They were a poor rural farming family even after their move to Missouri.
I was a OTR truck driver for many years. The craziest sights I've ever seen, have happened in Arkansas. I saw a man driving down the road, with a horse standing in the back of his Chevy p/u truck, not tied to anything. That same day, I saw a woman driving a little Toyota four-door car, with about six goats in the car with her. They were hanging their heads out the window, just like a bunch of dogs. Arkansas is a beautiful state, but you never know what you might see there!!
As someone who grew up in Wickes, this totally misrepresents this humble little town. It's mostly a farming community made up of salt-of-the-earth folks who have found ways to get by on less. This is the problem with using your metrics to judge these small towns. Just because 30% of a town is below the poverty line doesn't mean 30% of a town is struggling and living in a shack. They may be more self-sustaining and have a farm that supports their way of living. It isn't without problems, but what place isn't?
Also, how are you going to make a video like this and wear a shirt that says, "Be nice to each other."
I know this will be just one more voice in a sea of comments, but this type of entertainment is the lowest form. It's shallow and uninspired. It accomplishes nothing but wrongly judge places you obviously have never been to.

I live in LA; but I got my Ph.D in Fayetteville, AR. I really loved my 4 years that I spent there in the mid to late 1970s. Why not also do a video on the top 10 towns in AR? I knew a couple of online friends from Manhattan Beach CA and they were downright arrogant and snobby. I verbally blasted them about their horrible attitudes and told them that their taxes need to be jacked up 50% since they were successful and very well off. They have been careful with me ever since that online encounter.

I was born in Arkansas in 64, my folks owned a farm, worked hard and lived well. We had garden veggies , smokehouse, fresh eggs from the chickens. House with indoor plumbing. I had a great childhood growing up on our farm in Ark. We lease the land out now.
i was born In Little Rock many moons ago. i used to walk downtoen via the bus. i loved the freedome i had. i miss Little Rock.
I grew up in Horatio Arkansas and it is a small town no too awfully far from Wicks, Umpire, and Vandervoort (The pronunciation rhymes with FORT. Get it right or STFU.) I had rather live in any one of those places than to live in any town or city that had over 15,000 people. Poverty or not, you will never meet nicer people and in the case of this particular area, it's in the Ouachita Mts. which is a beautiful region. As far as Zinc goes, it's in the Ozark Mts. and right off the Buffalo River which is one of the most scenic rivers in Ark. I live in a small town in GA now, but when my wife retires, rest assured, I will get my azz back to Ark. and probably back to the same area I grew up in. A lot simpler life for sure.
All these towns sound great. As long as there are no assholes like him living there.
My family and I go to Ark for vacation every year. We hope to live there someday .

That was a big part of my teen years long before they made a State Park out of it and I still have the scars to prove it, I was a poor boy and couldn't afford things like rubber rafts, canoes, or kayaks. I was born & raised here in Arkansas & no matter a person's income here, most of us are southern hospitable& very friendly. It was wrong of that person to have spoke to you the way he did no matter what area your video was about. That being said i am utterly shocked at the level of low some of these incomes were in the places you mentioned! That is less that disability or SSI so how are those people living at all? All i can say is i hope they are growing their own food!
Hmmm...I'm guessing you're not from the Fort Smith area? They're not as welcoming to outsiders as we expected. Just one example: We were treated very badly by a landlord and ended up having to get legal counsel and move out right after moving in, leaving us and our 6 children homeless for a month (with me being pregnant but miscarrying during the ordeal). No one at church, no one in our homeschool support groups, none of my native Arkansan relatives--NOBODY in Arkansas stepped forward to help us or point us to a place where we could find temporary housing while waiting to close on the house we were buying (which fell through anyway, forcing us to settle for run-down housing through a slumlord). All this while my husband worked a steady full-time job, and we were very frugal, not given to partying, drinking, drugs, all the latest electronics, or other money wasters. And we would take in others in need, but when we were in need, everyone split except a couple poor people in KS we knew, who had little to give. Good thing we homeschooled! A public school would have wondered why my children were gone from school for a month before finally enrolling in another city. Why? The children & I were forced to wander around Kansas and Missouri "visiting" family, friends, & hotels, while my husband stayed with a friend in eastern Oklahoma so he could go to work. So much for southern hospitality!!

I've lived in Arkansas all 39 years of my life. I love the half that's mountains and hate the part that's flat. Facts are facts but lack of money doesn't equal bad person or even a lazy person for that matter. It's amazing how far you can stretch a dollar if you're resourceful. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live because this is home. Come up to me and I'll greet you with a southern accent and a smile. It's easy to talk shit about places or people that you've probably never spent much time around and when you were here you probably went to the worst parts on purpose so you could form a bad opinion without seeing the good. Walk up to most Arkansans with an arrogant attitude and you're probably not gonna feel welcome so BLESS YOUR HEART. In between the small percentage of bad in this state there's a vast majority of good.

I've lived in Arkansas my whole life. Grew up in McGehee, went to college at UAM and UALR. Even though my classmates are scattered about, we all keep in touch, and try to help each other out when we can. I'd say Arkansas produces great people, and is actually a great, adventuresome place to live.

In Cove Arkansas, the Smith's Food's Grocery Store has been closed... for a year now. We do have a Dollar General store, Miller's Paint and Body shop, Hornet Tire and Body Shop, Cove Hardware, a hardware and feed store, a Coffee Vault shop, a Baja Rios Mexican Restaurant, and Pier 49 restaurant, of which all three are awesome places to eat that people come from Mena to enjoy; we are also home of the Cossatot River Eagles, along with Vandervoort and Wickes. Just updating the info on this tiny, but safe and quiet place to live.
I remember back when they fished the government agent's body out of the pond in the Cove/Van-Cove area. Good times.
I used to stay in Mena when my Daddy lived down there It's where my great-uncle Don lives🤔lived.... I find myself becoming very somber because I was just very excited very hyper watching the rest of this but pink white expect myself to you have that kind of reaction seeing that name.... Mena. Dry county around there 😔the only thing I really kind of recall is there is a hotel I think it is a hotel that's got a restaurant in itit's kind of like where everybody Amina goes to eat and they're actually really really is there is a police code that they say are they call out for all the officers to go eat Dinner 🤔 and well my stepmom I just love to see how many shades of red I could turn and I was about 19 when I was staying with them and they were all eating dinnerand I remember telling my stepmom are daring her or something like that that I was going to go over and tell one of those officers are asked him if I could play with their handcuffs in gun and I'll be damned if that woman go overit actually say something to them about this and one of them come over and talk to me oh my God it still makes me blush 😊 just recalling the memory of but the top it offafter we're done eating we go back to my great uncle Don's and he tells my daddy how he heard all about it over the scanner 😲😱🤣😂🤦🏼♀️

I'm in Wickes myself. I tried to do the same thing you did but for there. I love Cove though, I always say I'm gonna eat at Rios or Pier but I usually end up making a beer and wine run to the line and grabbing something quick from Scotty's. 😂
I’ve lived here all my life, but worked off in many other states... that’s why I still live here. These “towns” are not really towns more like a community.
I've been reading that North West Arkansas is doing wonderfully well. Unemployment is low and wages are high in the area. While the rest of the state reflects the poverty in the rest of the southern states surrounding it.
When I was moved first to Northern Wisconsin in 1945 I was less than a year old, the poverty of Wisconsin farmers there was quite evident. Most of the farmers there were of Northern European origin. Most Dairy farms had outhouses, shallow dug wells, and wood burning cooking stoves. Some homes where lucky enough to have well water piped to hand pumps inside the house. Many farms could afford wind driven well pumps, but not my family. We took our baths in large bronze tubs using other family members water after they had their bath. Farmers could get warm in the dark winter mornings by staying inside a barn warmed by a couple dozen milk cows, a couple of horses, and steaming dung. Then in about 1953, my family moved to Southeast Wisconsin and my dad got a job at what was to be known as American Motors. Everyone that needed work in the state were moving to Southeast Wisconsin where there was work thanks to the industrial base that had been increased by war. Southeast Wisconsin is now considered the worst part of the state by many mostly white people who have moved to places like Madison and Green Bay. I think you've heard of troubles in Kenosha Wis.

One more story about Arkansas between two fairly decent small cities one head Georgia Pacific paper company which paid the bills for people. The town had a high cancer rate for whatever reason you can use your own ideas. My sister-in-law had cancer along with many other women same types of cancer. We were driving to a little bigger city to stay the night because the hotel and the only hotel in the other town was disgusting that’s OK with me outside but really gross on the inside flood marks on the lower doors and walls and really freaky scary. Extremely cheap though. Went to the bigger city had to drive back-and-forth to visit my sister-in-law had cancer. Stayed 14 days. Went to gas up at 11:30 at the middle of nowhere gas station between the two cities and they were dozens of icky drug attic alcoholic looking people at the gas station just hanging out doing whatever. Obviously doing a lot of drugs. I slipped into the gas station to pay talk to the female clerk found out she was from Michigan also. After talking with her for a while living in a while we were there she seem pretty nice and I begin to walk out. I felt dimension that as I walked in people were asking me for money and kind of trying to intimidate me to give them money. It was kind of obviously that they were trying to strong army and just waiting for the opportunity to grab and mug man. Or worse. As I walked out of the door two guys came in and obviously were trying to intimidate me. The clerk told them leave me alone and leave the rest of us alone in the car because we were OK. We drove away make sure we only gassed up during the day or guest of the bigger town. Seriously another place to carry an AK 47 air 15 and several handguns with several guys know how to use them. Unfortunate unfortunate that it was like visiting Central America and some drug attic Podunk drug Village run by a cartel. It was like going to Mexico where the cartels are. Extremely violent dangerous and insane never go back my sister-in-law passed away unfortunately place was a complete toilet

I am a born and raised proud Arkansan. I grew up in the poorest city (Moro, Arkansas). In the late 60's it had a lot going for it. You had a Chrysler plant in Marianna, Arkansas that employed a LOT of folks. You also had a lot of farmers with farms that had been in the family for generations. Enter the 70's and huge corporations began buying up every farm they could until they finally squeezed the life out of every family owned farm. Then Lee Iaccoca decided to cut costs by closing a lot of Chrysler plants, Marianna being one of them, and overnight thousands of workers that had been at that plant for 20-30 years suddenly had no job, no pension, nothing. That's when Lee County began to die. It's basically a ghost town now that is overrun with gangs and drugs. I encourage you to visit Lee County, soon. Wait until dark though. Then just walk around alone until the welcome committee finds you. Good times!

NW Arkansas is a motorcyclist's dream. Great winding roads, quaint small towns to stop and grab something to eat or gas up, and the most scenic mountains anywhere. (I may be prejudiced) Fall is like a magical trip thru a kaleidoscope of color. There is also plenty of places to stay especially in the Eureka Springs and Harrison areas.

I live in Fayetteville, near lakes, a river, Greenways and biking trails, beautiful mountains, and near 4 state parks, one 15 min away, three within 30 and 40 miles. Now you might show some of the nice towns in NW Arkansas, it is beautiful here...

(But you have that lake up there thats nice. Id go to the lakes all the time if i lived up there.) I still prefer NWA over Little Rock or any place.
I’m lifelong Arkansan and have never heard of most of these towns. They must be very small. I was born and raised in Pine Bluff. It was once one of the best Cities in Arkansas. Now not so much but is still home of probably the fast growing Bank in the South( Simmons 1st National Bank). I now live in Little Rock which has its good and bad.
Thanks for showing some nice places to live in Arkansas ! I bought our home in 1983 located on a quiet two lane country road. We were close to a small town of about 20,000 residents at that time. Since that time several housing development's have been built and an a school added. There is a multiple housing going up at the moment just 3/4 of a mile away. We have lost our reason for moving here in the first place. Our quiet two lane road carries about ten times the amount of traffic and it is dangerous to pull out of your drive way. Our small town has more than doubled in size and our airport now receives passenger jets on a flight path right over our heads. Lord help us all! As soon as my wife retires I will be looking for a place to live where it is off the beaten path. Maybe we will check these places out! POMO

You will meet some of the nicest people but I believe he messed that up when he was talking about our town. People around here have dignity and respect for their town.

Well, people can say what they want about Arkansas. I’ve lived in a lot of other states and I chose Arkansas. Yes things need to change, but there are not just poor people living in those towns. They are good neighbors, you come through 3 of those towns I know, you would be invited in for a meal or a glass of tea. If your car was broke down, anyone there would stop to help and not ask for anything in return. We raised our kids here in a small town because of what goes on in big towns. I’ve been there, I know. Come to visit, but ask small town locals where the best spots are and you’ll see it. The best places are a secret, not on any maps. Lol

I live in Arkansas out in hilly country in the woods. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Lived in cities and in 6 different states, been trucking from coast to coast and Canada too! One thing I can say is yup we have a few poor places. But we do help our people here. And this state is solvent, something valued here. You are so angry. Hope you feel better now and leave a wonderful place alone.
I've lived in AR on and off my whole life. I've lived in a lot of towns near some on his list and they were small and poor. But they also have some wonderful people there. People that would stop and offer assistance if you were stranded etc. What I never saw there was homeless people shooting up and defecating in public places! People are leaving California in droves. I'm sure they aren't moving to Arkansas but that's fine with me! I'm sure California has lots of nice people. I wouldn't know as it's one place I've never been tempted to go. I'll just stay here with all the other po folk!😁

@frank enstein .well the homeless problem in Angeles, California is terrible. Drugged up, deification, half naked. But do worry Mayor Garcetti says that things are looking up. At least in Arkansas, a country boy can survive.
I live mainly in Texas but, twelve years I bought a place in Heber springs Ark that has a few acres and two houses. The people there are below the poverty level but very friendly. Neighbors can be counted on when help when it is needed I remember a tornado came thru one eve and the next morning there were four neighbors there with chain saws to help me clean up three that I didn’t know. They are a proud people that are poor but don’t know it. They treat me like I’m one of them. As my dad once said, it’s no disgrace to be poor, just a little unhandy and money isn’t everything, it just beats the hell out of what is in second place. Everything was great until they started drilling for natural gas around 8 years ago. People went crazy and here came the meth users from the influx of Okies coming in to work, now they have polluted not only the environment but the locals. Such a shame they couldn’t handle prosperity!

I too live in and own property in several little towns in Arkansas. I've been dirt poor and all the way up to comfortable middle class. I've also lived in some large cities such as Columbus Ohio and Chicago IL and I'd much rather be poor in Arkansas than in any big city.
I'm hoping to retire in a few years and moved to Arkansas I am so excited about these small towns I can't wait
Good plan! You can buy a beautiful old home for so little in the right towns. You can't buy a falling down crack house in Nashville, TN for what a mansion of a farm home in AR. Healthcare is something for you to consider when moving to a small rural town though. That is the only thing that has held my husband and I back from moving back to the area I grew up in in NE AR...that and my hometown is now destroyed. I'd have to move to a very rural area to be surrounded by nature with trees and streams on the foothills of the Ozarks. When it the time my life is nearly over I hope I can get home to pass under the canopy of trees listening to a stream and all the sounds of the country and nothing else.
I would run as far away from that godforsaken place as fast as I could run.
@@lorenrobertson8039 The Ozarks are still beautiful and there a lot still a lot parks, forests, wilderness, and solitude. Land deals are still be had but fewer and further between.
When I turned 18 my Dad who worked for the Phone Co GTE in So Cal took a transfer to Des Arc, Arkansas, just south of Georgetown along the banks of the White River. Culture shock! But I quickly adjusted to small town life and created some great memories with the locals who were all very accepting. If you haled from Cali you were treated as a Celebrity.
My Uncle years earlier moved his family from So Cal to Mountain Pine Ark. just 9 miles outside of Hot Springs and south of Lake Quatchita. More great memories were made here one Summer with wild & crazy cousins.
My grandma finally then spent her final days in a brick house just outside Texarkana, Arkansas. You could say, she had the best of 3 States, but Arkansas was her home. This was Way back in 80-81 and now I'm stuck in So Cal hating everything about this place. Thanks for making this video, you reminded me of some of the happiest times of my life. 😅👍

"Be nice to eachother" he says, after shredding Arkansas lol. I drove from Memphis to Little Rock and back via back roads, and I've never seen poverty like that outside of Detroit. Just miles of muddy fields and long-abandoned single wides. Sad and beautiful.
On that back road route, those "muddy fields" turn very green and prosper in the summer. They grow much of the countries rice, soybeans, and cotton amongst other crops.
Yes the Mississippi River Delta is a poor area but some of the most fertile land around.

I've lived in Northwest Arkansas my whole life and love it here. Admittedly much of Arkansas is different than NWA but most of us think this State is a pretty damned good place to raise a family. The cost of living is reasonable and much of the state is beautiful. The small towns have a charm all their own.
