- Top 10 most Violent Small towns in America.
All around the country you have good small towns and bad small towns. Some of those bad towns are the type you want to have extra life insurance just to visit. Yes, we are talking about violent small towns. Small Towns with so much violent crime it should be avoided at all costs. All states have them and most states would like to get rid of them maybe adjust the border and give it to the next state over.

Poor Lumberton never gets a break. My truck broke down there and the local mechanics went above and beyond to help me out. I knew what kind of town it was because I grew up in a dying mill town. Lumberton has the same sort of hopelessness. Too bad as there are some good folks there.

Meth is older than the CIA
In the town's where I live in East ky meth has fucking destroyed most people
Kevin Roman there was a meth head here in Nashville who shot up a Waffle House and killed several people.
Sometimes a town can change suddenly/unexpectedly;I lived in a College town in east tx from 77' to 81'.I moved away, then contacted a friend from that town in 83'.He told me that I wouldn't believe the changes that occurred, mainly due to a massive influx of Oil Field workers(and their families)moving to town.Drugs,Drugs,Drugs!!He gave me names of many once sweet, beautiful, popular girls,AND very popular guys that became druggies!THAT blew my mind!

Story about Anniston Al.- Every fall a group of us would travel to Smyrna Ga. to ride the Rails to Trails project, Silver Comet Trail. At the Alabama state line it changed to the Chief Ladiga Trail ending in Anniston. All together both trails were 96 miles long, we rode west on Saturday and back on Sunday. We stayed at the Royal Inn in Anniston, I woke up at 3:00 AM covered in bed bugs. Habib wasn't at the front desk so there wasn't anywhere to go, all we had were bicycles. If you've ever ridden 100+ miles, had 4 hours sleep, and ridden 100+ back at those speeds (it's mostly flat) it probably isn't your finest hour. And yes we were carrying, those pockets on those jerseys aren't just for water bottles.
my friends got a band gig in Kotzebue. When they flew into the airport they reported being treated like the Beatles, apparently the first band to play there (1980s). They played a different place like the old folks home and the youth center every night. The people there are almost totally Inuit and what you have there are alcohol issues mixed with rural boredom and an extreme Northern climate. My friends reported the people were great and they received mail (prior to email) from some of them for years afterwards. They said how odd it was in the summer it's still light at 3AM and there are kids out playing. One funny thing was that people showed there gratitude by gifting Beluga Seal oil which absolutely none of my friends could injest despite all being raw fish-loving Hawaii boys.
Many Alaskan native villages have an incredible alcoholism problem. Incredible is not an exaggeration. Most of the natives are kind and gentle people who don’t seem like they have a mean bone in their body but alcohol really makes them crazy for some reason.
Kotzebue is windy and cold. Kotzebue electric association, The local electric co-op had been experimenting with wind turbines since maybe the 70s. They’ve done a remarkably good job installing wind turbine towers successfully in lousy permafrost laden soil‘s. Alaska native majority villages and towns have a lot of social problems :-(
When a village is “damp”, each person is limited to like five bottles of hard liquor and five cases of beer per month. It’s may be something different OK?, But it’s a LOT of alcohol per person. The reason they make it illegal for bartering or selling alcohol in town is because an alcoholic native will sell you or give you anything they have for a bottle. I can’t emphasize enough the problem that many Native Alaskans have with alcohol.
I do believe it's been noted that many natives are allergic to alcohol. It's not a normal addiction or reaction to alcohol.
yeah I'm in Iqaluit,NU and kids aren't outside at 3 am cause it's sunny(we do experience 24hrs daylight here too) it's because it's dark at home...
I was born and raised in Española. It's not a surprise that it appeared on this list. In fact, the reason I watched this was to see it listed. But it is a natural beauty. My mother's loved in Anniston, AL for 25 years. She has never had any concerns for her safety living there. After about 4 years, she moved to the east side of town. It's a very nice area and extremely affordable. The new bypass is beautiful! I've been to Anniston no less than 30 times and never had a problem.
I was born and raised there. It was fine when I lived there. But there has to be a reason it consistently makes these lists.
@@aprilhutchens2105 these lists only look at statistics and numbers and not the reality of the location or anything good. If the good was weighed against the bad the good would prevail and the town would be on the good over the bad list.
@@aprilhutchens2105 it consistently makes these lists because these lists are done by privileged white people who haven't seen anything lol. I went to basic training and Military Police school at Ft. McClellan, AL and still know people that live in Anniston. Ever since the base more or less closed it's been a downward spiral for the city ever since. Maybe it's a reaction to the chemicals that deemed the place toxic.

I grew up in Estill - left at 18, and now own the family home. I go back as often as possible. True that the town is falling apart, due to the mismanagement by the town council that refuse to bring in any new businesses. Citizens have to travel (hour or more) out of town for any jobs. The crime numbers are what they are, but those numbers do not define a town like Estill. All of my family are still there and when I go home, we have wonderful times together. Don't let one statistic cast a shadow and stop you from exploring.
I'm from Brunson. I remember the rivalry between Wade Hampton and Estill high back in the 80's. My big brother, Robert Lee Smoak (aka) Smokey, raised his family in Luray so when I go home, I like to drive around Estill and look at the neighborhoods that are back where the unfamiliar would not think to look. There are some beautiful houses in the wooded residential areas, especially behind where the BB&T bank is or was. I don't know if it is still open or not, they closed the one in Brunson and one in downtown Hampton, but anyway, your right. There is always more to a town than government statistics, but you have to be from there to really know, and know how to love a place! Cheers!!

How bout 40 sum people suspiciously dead that could of tied the Clintons to scandal after scandal like pizza gate and the missing emails that tied them to sex trafficking and pedo shit. . Guess who benefited the most out of the wars in Iraq? False narrative after narrative being proven but suppressed thanks to the media that loved these bastards lies. Biden touching little kids and making racist comments. Direct ties to satanism and eating people. I wish these things were made up but the proof is out there being covered up. The fact is they ALL are corrupt including trump. He passed a law in 17’ to bio tag people with their social security number. War after war to benefit the corporate interests of our gov, making it illegal to sue big pharma for ruining your kids from vaccines. Videos taken off this platform that prove the harmful effects and ties to autism. How bout chemical after chemical approved while they are outlawed in other countries because of the harmful effects. It’s sickening to think of all the corruption being downplayed by our media. Everything you see is controlled by 6 corporations that psychologically indoctrinate people through music and tv. They don’t call it tv programming for nothing...

Kotzebue Alaska's Police mostly live outside of not only Alaska but down in the lower 48. They work for 2 weeks straight then go home for two weeks. The town flies them in work. If you get a chance, the series Alaska PD does a couple of episodes about policing in Kotzebue.
You missed Belen New Mexico. Nightline did a special on Belen because at the high school there is razor wire over the barbed wire on the chain link fences. Armed guards with submachines patrol the grounds and needless to say there are cameras. Legendary radio host Paul Harvey called it "the worst town in the United States." Hollywood does shoot a number of movies there, but it is because of the run down buildings, which look good in a movie about corruption, crime, or alcoholism.
A factoid about Espanola. In 1989 a position opened in the police department. Of the hundreds of the applications for the position, 99% failed because the applicants couldn't spell and some people even misspelled their own name.
latinos?
Sounds like "bellend". LOL
A pair of hippie friends of mine we're literally run out of town by the locals there within three weeks of moving there. They were told in no uncertain terms that they would be hurt if they did not leave and they took it seriously. This was in the late 90s
wonder how the schools afford the wire guards & ammo & weapons ???
@@kenmerriman4112 The same way that schools can afford to remain closed. The teachers are going to get paid if the school is open or if it is closed (unlike a business).
I was with the volunteer fire department for a decade and saw the city do "creative financing" with their budget. Buying a cheap fire truck instead of one that will last 50 years. Keep the junior high overcrowded but not worry too much about the size of the high school because a significant amount of 10th graders drop out due to pregnancy, drugs or the realization that to work manual labor you don't need a diploma. That was then (the 1970's/80's). Anyway, Hollywood has shot a couple dozen movies and TV show episodes there. Hollywood people have taught the city manager how to write grants and city services are blossoming big time from that. The population, not so much. The high school band is half the size it was 50 years ago despite the town having a much larger population now and that's just one indication.
Interesting list🤷♀️
Used to live in Lumberton,NC...surprised you mentioned it
Holly shit. I was randomly watching your video (I wasn't a subscriber, now I am) and I just saw that you used a picture that I took in Alaska! I almost had a stroke... Hahahhaha. Nice!
p.s.: I made it free on pixabay, so this is not a complaint.
Thanks for taking such a great pic and making it avialable.
@@WorldAccordingToBriggs You are welcome. Keep up the good work.
Holy holly shit
Hey Briggs, I want to go for a road trip through the US in the future and I was wondering If you could do a video on what you think are some must see’s through the country!
Keep up the great videos!
I suggest reading the book Blue Highways first
For an entertaining and eye opening road trip, just map out a route that takes you through each of these towns he listed in this video. Plan an overnight stay in each town for even more interest.
Henderson, North Carolina, is not in Henderson County. Henderson is in Vance County; in fact, it’s the county seat of Vance County. Geography is a wonderful subject to study.
I was born and raised in Anniston and there's a reason why I left that town the first chance that I got. So many problems with that town with extremely poor city leadership being one of the main ones and Fort McClellan closing didn't help either. My dad suffered a traumatic brain injury in Anniston from an assault. I will say that the town losing population and disappearing is a little misleading as most of it's population is going to its neighboring town Oxford, which is the opposite of Anniston in many ways (good city leadership, better schools, less crime). There's also surrounding communities like Saks, White Plains, etc... that take some of Anniston's population. The weird thing about Anniston is that it does have a decent richer population (especially on the east side of town), but the bad neighborhoods tend to be really bad for a town of its size.
Hope this gives you a little insight into that town.
Thanks again, Briggs. So uplifting. I found this one while trying to cure insomnia. So much for that. Yikes!
Briggs this is the most positive & uplifting video you’ve yet to produce... because most people don’t live there and most likely never will...praise be
Should do another one but research more of the small towns I. the midwest
how to improve this problem across the entire country is having service industry jobs at the bottom pay a living wage and affordable housing. you would be surprised how much more stable people get when they have some security in life.
Correct-a-mundo!
There are many many towns across this nation which are MUCH poorer than the ones in the video, and which have far less crime. Go back and re-watch the video and see if you can find any common denominators for their high crime rate. Hint: it has nothing to do with your so-called living wage.
"safer beaches on Normandy" LMAO
😂😂
Made me spit out my coffee........🤣🤣🤣
That is definitely an exaggeration, and your video should not be compared to that day. You lost credibility with that statement. If you exaggerate on that unfortunate historical event for so many soldiers and families, I wonder then if you are not also exaggerating on many things in your video trying to achieve fame and money. Perhaps you are no better than the violent people in the small towns. Also, you don't go into trying to understand why they are that way. You've simply labeled them and broadcast it worldwide.
I love you 💗 you are so funny!! Thank you for bringing this information. It's down right scary. 😱
The Anniston part (#2) was amazingly sarcastic in the best way.
Hysterical- great humor-strange places, but very funny
Minnesota is such an incredible state to live in, but I will tell you that onamia Minnesota is pretty bad. I’ve had my tires slashed in a parking lot, my car stolen, and my house broken into while I lived there, and recently there was another murder. We have a bad drug problem on the Rez and Mille lacs lake is really poorly managed with a lot of corruption. The town has 500 people, this stuff really shouldn’t be happening. I recently moved to brainerd though and am so happy I moved.
I live on another Minnesota rez. I hear you.
Oh meth, you've done it again!
Not all violent and rage filled crimes are committed by people high on drugs.
What about freewill, option and choice?
Always does don’t it
🤣
I don't like meth, I just really really like the smell of it.... 🤪😜
I grew up an hour from Anniston Alabama. I had no idea it was that violent.
Henderson, NC? Strange to hear about the crime. Henderson's reputation is as a very popular retirement/second-home area. Not surprised about Doniphan, MO. It is deep in the Ozarks, which are beautiful place to visit, but the residents can be a ROUGH crowd.
Times being as they are now, these vids are my happy times. Thnx Briggs from Or.coast. Peace
Love your broadcasts... keep up the good work!
NC has 4 on the top 10 list I seen last week. Henderson, Lumberton, Roanoke Rapids and number 1 Rocky Mount.
I’ve often thought of taking an alternate route traveling cross country to avoid the monotony of I-10. I will definitely be more cautious after the Columbus, New Mexico town being listed.
The violance is all over the cuntry
You could catch 62/180 in El Paso heading east for ~50 miles then catch RM 1111 down to Siera Blanca. Its kinda cool. Then catch 290 near Junction, TX through to Houston. Not too many alternatives.
Go to Espanola it is beautiful and one of a kind.
3:20 Dillingham, Alaska hehe I was born there. Biggest problem is alcohol use by Alaska Natives, its rampant and with it the usual drunken violence.
Not to play on a cliche , but indeed alcohol abuse is big among Alaska natives ( and most Indian reservation ).
But another factor for your Alaska picks . It's not just the population inside the city limits . By being the comparitive big town in wilderness areas , this is where people from a cpl hundred miles around " come into town " periodically , for shopping , and drunken brawls .
And Dillingham has presence of commercial fishing fleets in season , and they often follow the work hard at sea , party hard on land lifestyle .
Got Moose??? Shoot one..it will feed you for a year!!⭐⭐
Odd why natives have a harder time handling alcohol than other races.
On the other hand they are the best navigators on earth.
I guess ya gotta take the bad with the good.
I love people that comment on here about Alaska and they probably couldn't even find it on the map ( I live in Alaska )
@@johnmarshall4442 Sure I can. It's in the box at the bottom left corner of the map next to Hawaii, right?
Henderson, Oxford, and surrounding areas do indeed suck. There are a lot of nice people though. I used to install cable internet and television there in 2002.
Well you got Alaska, the Carolinas, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, and New Mexico, wow I think I might have to visit some states with small towns not on this list since they are really perfect. Just remember The Andy Griffith show was filmed in a fictional small town, Mayberry, in the Carolinas.
I didn't see Harlan County, KY. It has a small town there which, according to a friend, has gun fights in the middle of the day in the streets. I have to admit, he told me that in the early 70's.
