A smaller capacity bike is not a downgrade - it's just different. If it better suits your needs, then it is arguably an upgrade.

This is so true. When you do have big open roads to cover like in South Africa where I am from the bigger bikes makes sense but this is also only when going away for a few days. If I have to be stuck in traffic here or in Cape Town I would like to be on a smaller bike. Thanks for the comment

Hi great review. Really like your honesty. You didn't apologized.
I own at the moment a Tiger 660 for about 9 months or so. And had about 10k miles on it. 90% home2work.
All the things you said are true. Keep'ng mind is also a reliable bike with 10K miles service, and reasonable fuel consumption. I get around 21.5 km per litter.
I had many bikes in the past, we are the same age.
We all the time look for more power more bigger engines. This engine as you said really sweet.
My needs are the same as yours as I ride about 2,000 km per month!!! Mostly home2work as I said before.
I understood you replaced it for tenere 700. Oho, man... why....?!😉😄
    All the best

Dont worry I have tried to buy the Tiger 660 back as I just did not get along with the T7. I have now moved back to the Triumph camp and I am riding the retro Scrambler 400X. But I do miss my Tiger 660 as it was such a sweet, comfortable and good looking bike to ride. You do some solid miles and the long service intervals make this great for you. Thanks for the feedback and enjoy the riding on the bike.

Good video. Hope you enjoy the bike. I really like it from the reviews I've seen. Cruise control is the only thing I'd be wanting at least as an option. Yes, audio was peaking in places, but good audio is a journey. 😅

Awesome and thank you for the feedback. I have been looking at a few other mic's and also position of the mic but the current one it not playing ball. Great bike so far and I cannot wait to give it a bit more freedom when the roads are in better condition.

Makes sense, small enough for traffic but powerful enough to get on the highway.

So true, light, agile, sounds good and looks good. Its a great package for the money. Usually smaller bikes also get skinnier tyres but this really feels like a full size bike with good enough power to have fun on.

Hello, Your proposal to go down from a Tiger 900 to a Tiger 660 is interesting. Last week I tested the Tiger 900 GT and also the Tiger 660. After testing them for several hours, I still have doubts which is more fun. I also have doubts which one is more comfortable. I also have doubts which is more practical for daily use or even for medium-level trips. Yes, I also agree with you, if 660 had a more trail character, this would be almost perfect. But then I guess Tiger 850 and 900 wouldn't have enough sales.
One last question is, why didn't you choose a Triumph scrambler?

Many thanks for the comment. I am always looking and still looking for the best all round bike that is fun to ride on the weekend, comfortable on longer rides, slim enough to get me through traffic in the mornings and not too high for my 5.11 heights. I test drove the 850 sport and would have taken that one but they gave me such a good deal on the 900 at that time that it did not make sense to go for the 850. I dont need all the bells for the riding that I do. A few key bits that I like is the heated grips and hand guards.
When I traded in the 900 GT Pro for the 660 it was a easy move. The 660 is for me a much more fun and easy revving bike. It sounds good and goes really well for such a small engine. I also wanted a bike that I dont have to fight with in the traffic and this one fitted almost all the requirements. I have now moved to a Tenere 700 and man after the first 1500 miles I want my 660 back lol. I did a two hour ride just now and it was numb bum and not so comfortable on the back and shoulders. I did a 4 hour one shot with stopping once for fuel only on the 660 and I was super relaxed. The only bit that I missed on the 660 as you say is the bit that if I see a byway I cannot go and explore. Or I do a mind change and fit some trail tyres like the GS.
If I would grab a bike now to ride around the uk and explore the back roads but also to be able to navigate traffic then the 660 is a win for me. I might even be back sooner but I promised my wife I would at least to 4000 miles before I sell the Tenere lol.
Shout if there are more questions

I am 64 and skeletally challenged looking at lighter and friendlier bikes.

This is what happens, we find ourselves looking for bikes that are still fun but are able to give us the day to day use and also have the agility of a really small bike. I think we are also moving into a time where the smaller engines are much more refined and they kick out enough for most people to put a smile on your face. Keep riding it keeps the mind clear well at least mine.

I personally wouldn't really say downsize

Its more down scaled as you are right the bike is for a different function and it does ride like a big bike and also sound like a big bike. Super happy with it and thanks for the comment.

Lack of cruise control is a non-starter for me.

Agree, I think allot of people are getting so use to the standard bits we get on a bike that if they cannot get it its a not starter. This push the manufacturers to get more of the base in the bikes to attract more buyers. I am up for this as long as it does not take away from the bike riding experience. Thanks for the comment.

Tell me you're compensating without telling me you're compensating.

haha, its an option and what works for the users. My dad said there is not replacement for displacement. Meaning a bigger engine is better. That is true if I had the option to use it and enjoy riding to work. But if I look at any of the big bikes at the moment and as much as I would buy one I know I am just going to be using it at the weekends as filtering to the office would be a no go. But fair point. I took the speed twin out a few days ago. oooooh
