  • So I decided to take the first step in sharpening my riding skills and becoming a more advanced rider, so I attended the Bikesafe course which is run my police forces across the UK. This video is part of the 4-hour observed ride and includes only the tips received from the police officer. I'd strongly recommend you also attend this course if you're in the UK and want to become a safer rider. There is an initial online course to complete before the observed ride, the cost is reasonable and can lead to discounts in your insurance premiums. Ride safe!

Whilst the officer is correct by the Roadcraft Manual in what he is saying I have seen videos of police officer actually riding using counter balancing for both right hand and left hand bends. Also if one is steering taking a left hand bend by the use of counter steering , and we cannot take bends without counter steering we can still push down to our left and still counter balance. We are taught to counter balance when we are learning and doing say slow u turns ie. turning right, to go right push down and commence the right hand turn and then counter balance by bringing ones up and over body the other way. its one way of doing slow u turns. Push the bike down or turn the bars the way you want to turn and lift yourself up the other way. Under about 15 mph we have no counter steer available so need to steer in a normal way. pull left to go left and right to go right. We always did that on bicycles when we were young.

Start of vid, I personally find a lot of 'newish' riders, counterbalance, because theve watched countersteering videos, and all the concentration goes on that, leading to stiff arms, with no body movement. Just something I've noticed. Thanks for sharing 👍

@@bostock9255 I counterbalance when i dont need to lean much or when its more comfortable. Conscious choice though.

It's "the vanishing point" on a bend to look for...

Got stopped by the police for illegally riding my bike ( that’s what they said ) after twenty minutes of the bulls**t and lies . One of the police officers took my picture and sent it to his friends , he then found out that I was one of 7 people how was involved with teaching the police and authorities throughout Europe on riding and bike safety. Things totally changed , they when informed me that the DVLA had again made a mistake with my new licence ( change of address) and yet again deleted my motorcycle entitlement form my licence on line . Luckily I had the taken a photo my old and a paper copy which I had gone to the polic station to get done and have them sign before I sent the old one in . Which is it with the dvla and motorcycles , this only happen here . I’ve retired so why would I claim entitlement for a bike that I ride for three months a year , but it’s the constant harassment that’s the sticker. It’s used as an excuse and that should be stopped as all your details are on the police computer anyways.

Police initially work from data provided by DVLA. Any data failure from DVLA is not fault of Police who will ideally be aware of the issues re DVLA wrongfully deleting entitlement.

What a timely video to pop up on my timeline. I have been practicing these kind of techniques for the last couple of weeks but great to hear from a professional rider what and why to put these into my daily riding. Wishing you well and safe journeys.
