One way to use the animal bodies might be to use them as a kind of Beastmen warband. Cut off the back legs to repose them standing upright (or hunched). Hide the seams by draping them in paper towel or dried baby wipes, soaked in PVA glue, to form rough robes or rag clothing. (Maybe wrap their midsections with thread or twine soaked in PVA or superglue, for primitive belts). If you've got spare weapon arms from your model kits, chop the forelegs off of the animals and stick the human ones on (with more layers of clothing to hide the seams). Extra heads from kits also go here. (You can take spare animal limbs and make even more extra bodies, using lengths of sprue to fill in the torso space. Cover these in more "cloth" to hide your kitbashing sins.)
8 min mark - priming foam with mod-podge: So, it's no longer a guarantee that you can find the mini bottles of MP in dollar stores anymore; you might have to go to a dedicated hobby store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby, or you may actually get lucky with Walmart. If you join the cult & use it extensively, might be better to get an economy sized bottle instead, honestly. You also don't strictly need Mod-Podge, it's actually the premium option with additives to a PVA base, you can instead just use high-strength PVA (& be sure to mix it with your choice of base-color paint to both add color & make it easier to apply). Straight PVA is less fluid & less water-resistant than mod-podge, but it absolutely works. especially if you do the mix-it-with-paint trick
Modpodge has always been available in my dollar stores. I did the math and in my area it's about the same price per quart. Also, having individual bottles is better for me personally because I tend to leave the top off of them and they end up drying. 😭 But you're totally right there is regular PVA glue too I've used school glue too and they all work very similar. Thanks for the suggestion hopefully it helps others too when teaching down this stuff.
Oh man. This amazing video came out at exactly the right time!!! Right now, after our move, I have a TON of cardboard from the boxes we collapsed. I now know what I’ll be doing with it! :) Also, about the animal bodies, save them. Drill a hole into the middle of the hole and twist a screw into that hole. Use the screw to anchor a brand new head. Perhaps an alien or corrupted head. Lol
Mate these are superb. I have just started building ruins and will steal some of your ideas. I use kitchen paper towel and white glue for building texture. I like your cork idea and the pegs for the walls. Plus animal heads. As for a use for the animal bodies..make a spit roast for scatter terrain...anyways glad I found you. From the UK
This is a fantastic way to get terrain on the board quickly and under a limited budget. More time for playing the game, and you can always embellish the builds later, adding to the lore! Thanks for sharing.
That looks awesome! Very inspiring. From my understanding, it's the propellant in the spray paint that causes the foam to melt. So, the closer you are spraying the less evaporation of the propellant and the more melting of the foam. I have not experimented with this though.
oh this was a pretty nice one. and the whole crooked setup when a terrain piece is multiple buildings, is a tip i have not heard of before. will keep that in mind for my next big terrain prodject
Hey mate its not usually the paint but instead the propellant so you have to check what its using... best way check the propellant on the normal spray paint and match against the "foam safe"* 9 times out of 10 its the same bloody stuff haha its annoying but meh what ya gonna do
@@summonlessermaker Yeah distance is key still even with most of them Have a loo into cordless/corded spray guns like in me other comment youll thank me later haha just dont buy expensive its unnecessary
I used a light amount of paint and spray paint to prime it the more moisture you add the worse that will get. I don't think these will last as long as If you bought better building materials. So I would recommend watch some of my other videos to see what other materials I use But it should last more than a year depending on how much humidity you have. Just a guess
Fantastic table! I tried Mordheim but the ruleset is too archaic for me. There are better more modern ways to play fantasy skirmish games. There are a lot of of great games that can fit the same atheistic; such as Deth Wizards, Forbidden Psalm, Verrotwood, OPR Quest and Relicblade!
I love your builds!!! ...but I just cannot stop seeing the clothes pins for what they are. This is a me problem and not a criticism, so please do not take it like I am bashing you. Do you think there a way of cutting or arranging the clothes pins so their shape is less recognizable?
Yeah I need to get to that probably. Maybe soon. For cheap materials I think hiding the texture is key. From what I understand oil washes tend to exentuate textures which would just make this look worse? I don't know yet
@@summonlessermaker Oil washes will tie it in together. Ive noticed when you paint you use one flat shade, which is not how nature is, there is texture color variation, but you can add that back by building layers of different washes to brake up the flat color, then as a last step after everything has dried add a oil wash for the shadows and dirt that's gone into recesses. Perhaps do some tests on little example bits you make to see what works, that's a video in itself seeing what works. Don't do the tests on your built models, work out what to do on test model parts first to get your techniques down.
The animal heads and clothes pins are genius!
Yeah, I use them constantly 👍
I have been hung up on shingles for a while. I have cork and those scissors already, and I never thought of that. Awesome job.
Yeah do it. When I thought of this It was life changing 🤣

Oooooo that's a cool idea thanks so much. I haven't looked into beast men yet
Idea for the bodies. Split them lengthwise and make a BBQ tower!
That's an awesome idea thanks for the suggestion!!

These buildings came out sick. I really want to get into some terrain builds, I might start with a 1x1 square that I can add to later. Great stuff.
Yeah definitely 👍 if you get stuck leave a comment on any of my videos and I'll do my best to help you out if the ditch 🤣
The broken popsicle sticks on the ends of the ruins look great.
And thanks for the tip on Sprue Dude!

I've used regular spray paint primer that melted less than this "foam safe" spray paint 🤣 just kinda annoying
@@summonlessermaker Yeah, I could see that being quite irritating. What the hell? What is the brand? I will make sure to avoid it.
@@AmberMarieArtStudio it was Rust-Oleum so I expected it to behave but now I can tell you guys to beware 🤣

Beheaded animal bodies come in handy for messing with the Little People from Gulliver’s Travels and/or kitbashing Beastmen.

You can use the spare bodies as a butchers or slaughter house?

Brilliant idea on the animals. Are they just kids animal toys?
Yeah 👍 I think the thing to look for is that they aren't hollow. That way they keep their shape while you cut them
could you melt the legs of the animal corpses a bit so they can bend and use them to make like, livestock corpses?
Yeah that's a great idea thanks;
I think you should make a butcher building for the animal bits cut off the legs for hams
Ooooo that's an awesome idea thanks !!!
Yea this is a great idea. Some jewelry chains and fishhooks could be fashioned into a very cool room

That's fair. You can cut them in half. I think that would help you out a bit to break the shape up a bit.

You need oil washes over all of your terrain models.
Yeah I need to get to that probably. Maybe soon.
