@@TuesdayTastic It's a fantastic idea for a Smash series, and I'm happy you find enjoyment in what you make, man. Here's to the future of Character Crisis!
When Brawl came out I mained MK without knowing he was broken, so when a friend and I went to a tournament and was told MK was banned, I knew I was screwed. Now many years later I now know he was indeed broken lol.
MK is mostly held back by a really linear neutral, in my opinion. A lot of chraracters can just play around/cover his grounded options like dash grab/DA, and keep MK out forever/outbox him. He is also very inconcistent, as his combos are both character and percent specific, and at mid percents he is just not that scary of a character that generally has to work a lot harder to win neutral. Very tough character to solo main, although there are MUs he is great in, like heavies, most swordies, and especially floaty characters. Very strong CP character/anti meta threat, but pretty complex for a secondary. Great comain though
imo mk players should use more of his other tools in neutral (dtilt fair nair etc.) and play more patiently with the character because he definitely has tools in neutral
@@ax8914 yeh for sure, dtilt is relly good, but if DA is outspaced dtilt isnt gonna cut it. Thts why he has to whiff punish to function. He struggles a lot to get in, and is forced to be super patient to function
@@benross9174That really sucks man😭 Meta Knight was originally intended way back in the dawn of his introduction to be a sort of glass cannon rush down character . Unfortunately the smash team didn’t know of all the things that he could do on BOTH sides of that coin, from keeping himself alive longer through hitstun canceling, one of the best overall recoveries in smash history, a move that has priority over almost everything, a tiny sword that’s a little too disjointed, ledge regrabbing, and a system that doesn’t promote combos for anybody but like five maybe six characters. Then moving into smash 4 they had an entirely different development team. And they didn’t know what the hell Meta Knight was supposed to be, all they knew was that he was broken and needed to be nerfed. So ever since smash 4 we’ve been stuck with a broken (like little mac, not Kazuya) character.
@@RNGuice I mean he is still pretty good, has some meta relevant einning MUs as well like ROB and Min Min. He does feel like a shadow of his former self ofc, but he’s not bad

Here's a suggestion. A slept on character that can dominate in the right hands. 2213 Mii Swordfighter. Shuriken, Gale Stab, Stone Scabbard, Power Thrust. You will run into some of the same things ridley struggles with but I find 2213 MiiSF edges out with more options against that pressure. Good luck.
Increasing character awareness is an excellent service, especially in a fighting game with as huge a cast as Smash. I'd personally like to see you take on more Heavies
Heavies are going to be very interesting to play since I'll probably do well with them given that they are easier to pick up compared to the average character.
Love Meta Knight. He was the character I wanted in Smash the most all the way back in Melee. He used to be one of my worst characters, now he's one of my best. He's just so unique! All that said, it took me a long time to realize why top level players don't use him much: - Too much effort for what you get out of him. Important for not draining your mental stamina in long tournaments. There are other characters that can do what he does more consistently, easily, and in some cases even better. One of my favorite matchups in Smash is Meta Knight vs Pikachu. They both have a lot in common. Lots of disjoints, tiny, fast, absurd recoveries, up air combos, randomly extremely powerful options and they both want to get early KOs off-stage. Though Pikachu just feels like a character that can adapt to new situations better, and t-jolt lets him more easily force things. I might be a bit biased though, since the best player I know moves like ESAM with Pikachu, and I might also be going "Pikachu is mr potential" with the little bit of time I've put into Pikachu out of curiosity. - Primary game plan is rather linear. In general you can overwhelm most people with Meta Knight's speed an disjoints, but going up against the best of the best that I can attack, it feels like you're kinda getting stuck into bait & punish strats where the opponent is dictating the pace of the match the whole time. I just woke up so it's kinda hard for me to describe that despite him having all the traditional qualities of a top tier, his kit just doesn't work well enough together like other characters do, and I feel like he's the only character like that off the top of my head in the roster. Still going to use the heck out of Meta Knight though because he is so fun to play, and everyone tells me that they love fighting my Meta Knight. Just the existence of dimensional cape adds an extra mental stack on the opponent sorta like having Samus's fully charged charge shot available at any moment the second the opponent forgets about the move, and I get addicted to characters that have a way to induce some sort of "fear" or things for the opponent to be cautious of. Also there are some matchups that just feel absurdly easy with Meta Knight ,even though when I look at matchup charts he's pretty even across the board.
MK has - maybe the strongest disadvantage state in the game - practically ZERO LAG - large combo tree - good ledge game His problem is his super linear neutral that he's forced to stay in and his lack of any real range (except for d-tilt) and his main moves being only active for 1-2 frames. He's part of the Counterpick meta due to him actually countering meta relevant chars.
@@aidenawe9359 he does not have the best recovery in the game, that would be pika as he is protected 100% with high priority large hotboxes and doesn't need to expend his jump offstage to get back to ledge.
I think people just outright forget that Meta Knight has 6 jumps, a frame 2 airdodge, a teleport move with only 18 frames of endlag (which can finish in the air mind you.) A frame 10 move that can be used to evade most of the cast online, even if you don't hit them with the move, and a frame 4 dair that's spammable with a frame 6 dair that's also spammable depending on where you go to camp. Then of course he can always use side b to reverse condor someone for trying to edgeguard him recklessly as a callout. The issue with most Meta Knight players competitively is they play him like he's Fox, he's not. He's far from it. You got all sorts of Luigi players camping, you got Kazuyas sitting in the corner like they just dealt with an abusive parent, and Falcos doing everything but playing the game, and Lucario players quite literally doing everything but playing the game, but then the MOMENT it's Meta Knight's time to play defensively it's like every notable Meta Knight player just shuts their brain off and goes full QP Bowser mode. With all due respect, western Meta Knights especially, even Bonk! seem to be autistically obsessed with just hitting dash attack into bridge/ladder, then just seem to shrug their shoulders once they inevitably drop the combo during a game. Not to say it's all they do in neutral, and I get why they go for bridges/ladders (aggressively speaking bridges and ladders is all Meta Knight has outside of maybe edgeguarding) but they definitely seem to play the game like they're trying to clip some random 7 year old on QP. The reason why I'm suggesting playing lame here sometimes is because some MUs he just can't win unless the opponent just randomly chooses to be bad. Meta Knight, when played defensively, perfectly, could in my opinion be THE BEST character in the game. Sure, we have other Multi-Jump characters with higher air speed, but it doesn't matter as they don't have the other options that MK has. Once Jigglypuff burns all of her jumps, she becomes very predictable, and her being so light makes her explode for making a single mistake, and the floatiness ironically makes her easier to hit sometimes because she can't rely on camping in the same spots MK can. Pit, while I think his camping can be really good, is a sitting duck once his "Stay back" breaks. Ridley and DeDeDe are just way too fat to work obviously. And Banjo can camp, but it's more on the zoning side and even then it's adaptable. Sure Meta Knight is a fastfaller, but he also has the best recovery game in the game, especially for camping. Every character in the game has places they just outright can't hit, Meta Knight can abuse this by "blindspotting" the opponent. For example, Min Min is REALLY annoying to fight until you just stay in the air on Kalos. Sure, Fox is fast, but his range is non-existent. Sure, the Belmonts are very annoying to fight, until you realize they have very linear attacks. On top of that hitting the ground faster is ironically a good thing, as it leads into more jumps (6 of his jumps burn 7 seconds each time he does it.) Then you of course never know if he's going to land normally, land with a FFAD, or simply spam DC to get out of the way. If the MK is crazy they could go for Mach in neutral Meta Knight players just seem to be completely throwing this out of the window while other character mains for the most part don't give a damn about how people see how they play (Look at Sonic and Samus players,) I just don't get it.
