I can't BELIEVE you didn't talk about Fulgrim regretting his decision to kill Ferrus, making dozens of clones to prove that he could've talked Ferrus into turning traitor, and EVERY SINGLE FERRUS CLONE telling him to get bent. My favorite bit of Ferrus lore.
Rejecting every reasonable well thought out argument presented before you because it doesn't fit with what you already believe. Certified sigma behavior.
@@95keat characterizing Chaos and especially Slaanesh as a “reasonable well thought out argument” is a reach Michael Jordan from Space Jam couldn’t pull off.
For someone with so little lore, Ferrus has one of the best burns over Lorgar in the whole lore: "One wonders if you're capable of creating anything worthwile at all"
@@13emstr i think you remember It wrong, this is an answer to Lorgar when he asked if Ferrus only know how to create weapons. His ass deserved to get roasted
As one of the few Iron Hands fans, thank you and I'm sorry for being the "actually" guy today. Ferrus didnt so much detest weakness itself but people who never sought to overcome their weaknesses which is why him and Fulgrim got along so well, both were constantly trying to improve their skills and test their limits but Ferrus was okay witj failure unlike the pretty boy
@@AGrumpyPandahe saw perfection within the emperor and knew he’d never be able to match it, leading him to push him and his legion to become stronger He absolutely fucking brutalised the greatest duelist of the emperor’s children in front of both legions just to prove that point
Ferrus and his sons are probably one of the WORST examples of GWs management. It's not because of what they've done to Ferrus, but what they've NOT DONE. This is a Primarch that Horus KNEW, while still sane, was a key to victory, if the traitors had Ferrus, game over. While he is brutish, he is in the way every human who is frustrated and wants to better them selves is brutish. Becoming laser focused on the tasks at hand, for a goal that seems so far. Ferrus wanted more for his son's and for them to develop on their own, not just by the bionics. In an odd way, from what little lore the Iron Hands have, they are the most mature of Space Marines in many ways. The first to lose their gene father, the first to continue on without him, the first to form their identity with technology and almost rejection on their humanity, but above all, the first to realize it was their CHARACTER that defined them, not the augmentation. While they have successor chapters, all are welcome to the Iron Council, and work with one another. In many ways, they have achieved much of what their father wanted for them, and that is, sadly, never praised.
I do hope that if someone takes up a new Ferrus project they don't lean into the foreshadowing as much as other stories have. We get it, he dies, just show us Ferrus ripping motherfuckers in half.
Don't tell me how he died, tell me how Ferrus LIVED. This mad lad who drowned a Necron machine construct in magma with his bare hands. Who had one of the most successful efforts of the Great Crusade. Who forged weapons and brotherhood in unexpected ways. Yes he died, we all die, but not all of us live.
Ah yes, Ferrus Manus, the primarch with iron hands, primarch of Iron Hands space marines who also have iron hands, as well as captain of battleship Fist of Iron
Idk man.. I think I'm sensing a theme here Ahem... My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
My favorite part of Iron Hands lore is that their entire "Flesh is Weak" saying is that they entirely got it wrong. It was actually Vulkan who first said it, and Ferrus really liked it so he started using it. But also that wasn't the full quote, for Vulkan really said "The Flesh is weak, but deeds endure", something Ferrus understood but the Iron Hands forgot. The message wasn't one of "flesh bad", but rather a statement of humility and acknowledging their mortality. But in doing so understanding the need to strive to ensure one's own deeds would live on past their own death.
One wishes Ferrus and the Iron Hands would get the Chris Wraight treatment that Jaghatai and the White Scars got. They really need more attention and love.
This episode is making me so mad. Not because of any Ferris Manus slander or if I think the Iron hands were misrepresented. But the sheer fact it took them like 5 minutes to remember if Spartans were Greek or Roman while Shy is going “Haha Ultramarines your being forgotten for being Greek” but the Ultramarines are literally THE Space Romans! I can’t believe Shy taking the L with that one
SO frustrating, yeah. Also wanted to mention that if Perturabo and the Iron Warriors are "Not-Spartan Greek" then that probably makes them *Athenian* , which they also failed ot think of!
I think you touched on it a bit, but I get the feeling that ferrus was one of the few Primarchs who was aware of his own flaws and limitations and wanted to improve himself because he wasn't who he wanted to be. He wanted better for himself, his brothers, and his sons. I actually like that a lot and resonate with it.
I already really liked the iron hands mainly for the tanks and dreadnoughts also a bit if machnicus now I like them even more but just like every other iron hands fan I wish we had more lore to explore
Most likely because they knew people will be swarming to them like flies asking "Are you open for commissions? Ohhh I want a commission, I need commissions. Commissions!!"
"If fighting is all there is, if we may never pause to reflect on what such devotion to strength is doing to us, then our compulsion will only grow. Already I see the madness that path leads to, and so I shall excise the silver from my hands. In doing so I shall weaken myself and my sons, but nonetheless it must be done. The hands are strong, and have created great things, but they are not mine."
A couple things. Ferrus is so enraged by fulgrims betrayal that he takes a wrench from his forge as a weapon instead of making a new one, it’s in the fulgrim book that you reviewed. Ferrus Manus had close ties with the mechanicum and even had access to secret schematics for his own tinkering. Manus made cattaphractii terminator armor. Fulgrim made many clones of manus that all refused to betray the emperor and all were killed except one that escaped and hasn’t shown up yet in the story of 40k
@@bioraidos5454 one of Fabius’ greatest feats was the cloning of primarchs, he once traded a clone of fulgrim for something with trazyn the infinite, the clone broke out.
Thank you so much for touching this topic! The Iron Hands are in my opinion an unbelievably underrated faction. Awesome work my friends. "The hands are strong, and have created great things, but they are not mine." Have an amazing day everyone! Thanks for the vid.
What are you talking about, the Iron Warriors are widely known for their resisting Dorn's siege. :) :) :) *_T H E J O K E I S T H A T P E O P L E K E E P C O N F U S I N G T H E M._*
Vulkan: My legions will be named after the apex predator of my home world. Perturabo: My legions name will reflect our character of strength and unwavering metal. Ferrus Manus: 🦾
“Character of strength” Yeah, a petty little manchild who had his head so far up his own ass, he’d kill anyone that spoke out against the Zhukov tactics he used, throwing his sons into every woodchipper in the galaxy and being a gigantic drain on imperial resources. A dude so completely and utterly convinced of his own superiority, that he thought he deserved as much praise as Dorn or Sanguinius, for willingly getting his sons killed in the dozens of thousands due to his tactical ineptitude, with nothing but the stability of his geneseed able to help the legion rebuild after every battle. And his legion turn into Game of Thrones level backstabbing scumbags, taking advantage of these meatgrinder situations constantly trying to get each other killed if it means even a chance at promotion lol 😂
Could be worse. Gulliman really just named his after his sector, I don't know the reasoning behind Magnus's, the Luna Wolves will be suing the Space Wolves for breach of copyright and the alpha legion just chose their name to mess with everyone which is incredibly on brand. Edit: My comments appear to be shifting with some shenanigans. Hopefully this ends up below the comment about incredible legion names.
The Thousand Sons were named this way because at the start of the Great Crusade, there were exactly 1000 of them. Only afterwards was their Legion brought up to full strengh. Then, they were again reduced to just about 1000 due to the Flesh Change and after the burning of Prospero there were only about 1000 left (1242, to be exact).
@@TheOnlyRealIRONicMAN I see. Kind of funny that their legion was basically at chapter strength a lot of the time. I had assumed it was symbolic but some of the names are really on the nose (looking at you Raven Guard)
Tonite on Ridiculous Gear: DK removes his hands by rubbing against really chiseled abs so he can replace them with iron hands. Bricky gets his head removed by the Traitorous Shy which doesn't go to plan as his forehead has a gravitational pull which caused the sword to miss and Tedd is currently trying to violate gods design by drawing Big ol'milkers the size of plymouth
One small detail is that he isn't a total idiot about his obsession with strength. During the war with the Diasporex, he spent a while chasing them around the star system, but their ships kept evading him. Eventually he calls together his commanders and asks them why they're failing. Instead of just being like "Rargh, we need to be stronger!" they say that they can't do it alone and they need reinforcements. Ferrus agrees and says that it's weakness not to acknowledge your own limitations.
As an Iron Hands player/fan myself, it does make me very sad that Ferrus has so little written about him. He is, at least to me, an interesting character that did not get the attention he deserved when writing books about him. From what little there is, he seems to be written fairly well, but there just isnt enough on him. It is stated that both Horus AND Guilleman were very upset at the death of Ferrus Manus because he was "A key to absolute victory." Yet there is barely shit that says he is! So sad.
On a side note, supposedly when Horus was at the Siege of Terra, he had gotten Ferrus' skull and would talk to it to complain about his fucking bat-shit insane brothers that weren't helping in the slightest. Funny as hell but at the same time, there isn't much saying they had any REAL connection at all.
I'm surprised his head survived the drop site battle didn't the imperator titan open fire on the battle I can't remember it's name I just know it's the leader of the Mortis legio
Maybe to rewrite Ferrrus. Maybe give him a alter ego known as the Architect. After destroying the necron construct prototype turns out it had a conscious. And would slowly infect Ferrus's mind. Maybe make him more open and kind. Instead of this cold jerk. You can have a caring and eager primarch who wants to preserve everything with machinery. But the Architect wants to change and replace EVERYTHING. Old church? BREAK IT DOWN AND TURN INTO A REFINERY. Orphanage? Nah that's gonna be replaced with a arms factory. And it'll hit home to the "these are not my hands" quote! Because he is being taken over! And after he gets his head cut off. Then his body getting buried under rubble before it sparks to life. And crawls out of the rubble before hovering his hand up legit summoning a wormhole and walking into it.
Oh there’s plenty of shit that says he is. Ferrus Manus and the Iron Hands were the premier horde-fighters of the Great Crusade. If you needed to crush a numerically superior, or technologically superior foe, call the Iron Hands. They were also almost entirely responsible for the drafting of legion tactical doctrine concerning the deployment of Terminator armor, Dreadnoughts, and armored squadrons supported by Astartes infantry. Ferrus Manus wrote the book on terminators, dreadnoughts and combined arms warfare for the legions, and the crusade would’ve taken probably another 2 centuries, and a staggering amount more losses to get where it did at the time of Horus’s betrayal.
@@MrNick951concerning Ferrus and Horus, I think their dynamic was largely the good-cop, bad-cop type of deal. Horus put a good face on the Imperium. He was kindly, regal, beneficent and portrayed himself as quite generous. He was the open hand extended to all the lost tribes of humanity. Ferrus was the closed fist. He was the 3rd Primarch found, and was almost entirely responsible for how the legions implemented technology into their war fighting, from tanks, to terminator armor, to dreadnoughts, to high-tech weaponry like Graviton Flux weapons and such, Ferrus was the one who engineered legion warfare. Where Horus’s niceties failed, and where his speartip assault might break, Ferrus and the Iron Hands were the sledgehammer that would shatter that stone-like target. You sent Horus for those that might relent, and might even join the Imperium. You sent Ferrus to scour those that wouldn’t from the face of the galaxy. Both were pretty damn good at their jobs.
Fun Facts: Spartans repected the Elderly. They respected them more than their Athenian rivals. I mean, if you are able to go old in a world that is brutal. You are pretty badass. Those it did not mean they would be remembered. Many elderly men would put back on their armor and carry their shields. All to go back into combat and die. Just so they can have their names on a tombstone. Plus, it is unlikely the Spartans would throw out unfit babies. They would just find them different jobs when they grow older. Also, one way Spartans tested the fortitude of a baby. They would pretty much dunk them into a bowl of Wine. Wine. WINE! All to see how well the baby can handle its booze. No, I am not joking. Plus, Spartan women never swaddled their babies. They would let them play on the dirty. All to build up that fortitude. And also, if a woman dies during child birth. They would be honored for their sacrifice. As Spartan Men oh so much respected women. As it is women who give birth to Spartan Warriors.
Ferrus never even used a forge hammer to forge. He just punched the metal to shape. Fun fact, the Iron Hands were like, 95% responsible for the technological improvement of Terminator armor among many other Astartes armaments. The Iron Hands basically field-tested everything for the Mechanicum during the great crusade. They were also 99% responsible for the drafting of legion tactical doctrines for the deployment of terminators and Astartes combined arms warfare. When it comes to tanks, dreadnoughts and terminators, if it weren’t for the Iron Hands, the great crusade would’ve been far longer and more costly. All the other legions were taking pages out of Ferrus Manus’s playbook when it came to their tech.
There was a tech-priest who theorized that the reason for new Iron Hands getting so many cybernetic augmentations even though they're not upgrades to an Astartes is "daddy love me" syndrome.
Ferrus doesn't get much screen time but when he dose he's pretty awesome. There's a part near the end of first heretic him and Lorgar throw some barbs and Ferrus through blunt cutting words just shuts down Lorgar hard.

It'd be funny if Adric made a video on the missing primarchs before the remaining primarchs, there's enough hints and info about them out there that you can probably make a 30 to 40 minute video...
Manus is too handsome in this picture. He was said to be covered in burn Marks made by Necron tech and scars during war. In other words. Great job again! Keep it up guys!
GW is tripping! They could release several books on Ferrus Manus... They could make the tale about a remembrancer (equipped with some expensive augmentation) or a Magos that goes to Medusa and studies Manus' Lore... I mean it's a DEATH PLANET, plenty of stories to tell... We could even learn more about the Necrons... The Remembrancer has a Space Marine, Custodes, or Castellan bodyguard (maybe a Jokaro sidekick?) assigned to him, and they go on adventures and simultaneously tell Manus' tale while building their own lore. Kinda like a 40K Gotrex and Felix series... kill three birds in one stone, give us Manus lore, Necron Lore, and create a new IP.... I'd buy it... shht for the right price I'd write it...
My favourite quote in perhaps all of the Horus Heresy comes from The First Heretic, shortly before Ferrus died: "They are not my hands. This fact is forgotten by my brothers -- inexplicably, it has always seemed to me. The hands are strong, to be sure, and have created great things for us all, but they are not mine. And that counts for something. They forget that the silver on my arms comes from a beast that I vanquished. It is the mark of a great evil that I ended, and yet it persists within me...I would struggle to remove it now...I will not remove the silver from my flesh because I have learned to depend on it. The fault is with my mind. I rely on the augmentation given to me by my metal gauntlets, so much so that the flesh beneath them is now little more than a distant memory...A day will come when I will strip it from me, lest I lose the power to master myself forever. Already my Legion's warriors replace their shield hands with metal in my honour, and so they too are learning to doubt the natural strength of their bodies. They must be weaned off this practice before it becomes a mania for them. Hatred of what is natural, of what is human, is the first and greatest of the corruptions. So I record it here: when the time comes, I will strip my hands of their unnatural silver. I will instruct my Legion to recant their distrust of the flesh. I will turn them away from the gifts of the machine and bid them relearn the mysteries of flesh, bone and blood. When my father's Crusade is over, this shall be my sacred task. When the fighting is done, I shall cure my Legion and myself. For if fighting is all there is, if we may never pause to reflect on what such devotion to strength is doing to us, then our compulsion will only grow." And it's the only one that makes me cry. Ferrus had so much planned, but he was cut low by GW and then Fulgrim. Everyone loved him or at least respected him, his Grim Resolve was like his hands.
I freaking knew we were going to talk about a primarch soon, now all that is missing is Raven guard, Space Wolfs and Thousands sons and I bet you its going to be in that order.
@@Wolfbroa There is that possibility and I bet you Shy is going to pull a 180 and do that. Thousand sons, Space wolf, and Raven guard in that order out of spite. Which she would do because she reads the comments as she stated.
that and they still need to go back and do the Ultramarine focused episode like they did with Alpha Legion, Death Guard, and Night Lords once they started separating Primarch and Legion into different episodes
44:30 - The only thing I would accept in terms of Sanguinius coming back is if he comes back, he's a broken shell of what he once was, like even more depressed then Dante or Guilliman and only has two modes, depressed, weak paralysis and rage so great that he even gives Angron pause. That and he's incredibly resentful of Big E. Like, "Now I get why Kurze was the way he was, I gave you everything and you won't even let me have the peace of death." and everyone involved who knew him in life is like "This was a huge mistake..." and the only saving grace is that somehow he might save the galaxy humanity.
Can't wait to watch Bricky shit on my favorite Primarch. Edit: I now understand people who get really nit-picky when their factions get covered. I'm not any better. Edit 2: Fun and/or Depressing Facts About Ferrus Manus (of Questionable Canonicity) -A captain of the Astra Militarum once fell asleep infront of Ferrus when he was giving him a dressing down, along with some Ultramarines and K-Sons, since he had spent the last four days awake on amphetamines. When Ferrus noticed the man was sleeping, he just laughed and sent him to bed without punishment. -A planet system he was attempting to peacefully subjugate (to try and bolster his portfolio when a Warmaster would eventually be chosen) double crossed him by nuking some Ultramarines and attempting to assassinate him during negotiations. In revenge, he parked his flagship in orbit of their most populated planet and bombarded every square inch of the planet as it rotated, and then launched a full scale invasion on the sliver of land that was protected by shielding. Gulliman would later arrive on the scene and chew him out for resorting to such barbary, but Ferrus told him that he was just being what the Emperor made him to be, a conqueror. -Ferrus' eyes were also metallic, but they became that way before his arms. Even Ferrus himself didn't know how much of his mind and body were made of necrodermis. Also, when Fulgrim realized the extent of his corruption during his fight with Ferrus it was due to seeing his reflection in his brother's eyes. - Ferrus designed a Dreadnought boxing ring on his flagship, the Fist of Iron, but his main reason for building the structure was so he could fight other Primarchs in it. He tried to goad a good number of his brothers into fighting him, even offering masterful weapons and armor as recompense, but to my knowledge no one ever took him up on his offer. -Ferrus was one of the Primarchs who didn't have a parental figure growing up. The first time he's noted as making contact with another human was when he was about the size of a ten-year-old. -When he was a baby Primarch, he was instantly able to recognize that the markings on his pod meant 1) he was created by someone, 2) he was one of many creations, and 3) his creator would come looking for him. -Also when he was a child, most of his dietary needs were met by eating sand and rocks. He had also found several human corpses but some internal programming told him it would be taboo to eat them. He felt no such taboo when eating the metallic revenants (either Necrons or DAoT robots) of Medusa. -Medusa is a pretty cool planet. During the DAoT it was such a place of interest that an orbital ring was built around the planet to aid with excavation. Medusa was also in general geologically unstable, with mountain ranges forming in the matter of months and disappearing just as quickly. -The native Clans of Medusa were 1) based on Scottish clans, 2) in universe hailed from Albia, the future UK/Scotland, and 3) weren't neolithic savages. They actually had a good number of STCs and built giant convoys and advanced weaponry to traverse the harshness of Medusa safely. If anything I said is wrong, please let me know because I wrote this from memory.
Thanks so much for the lore dump. I’ve been reading Shattered Legions, but originally wanted a book more focused on The Gorgon. It’s a real shame there doesn’t seem to be a condensed book focusing on him.
Just a little correction one one bit he says to arkaduana that that the ring has few stories to tell but not none,so it is implied that at least some primarchs dueled him,at least of those found at the time
Ferrus' main problem is they knew form the get go he was going to die before the Heresy even really started, and they could have done something really interesting with that. Like lean into what a logical/strategic powerhouse he was and that the loyalists really took a massive blow in losing him, but instead it's likey the were scarred people would like him and... be emotionally invested in him.
Kinda wished Bricky had talked about that moment when Ferrus is with the Emperor and they are discussing Vulkan, pretty cool moment in the lore, plus since there isn’t that much lore about him might as well. Also it’s interesting how in the lore both traitors and loyalists thought that Ferrus would have made an incredible asset for the war, like Horus literally said that with him he would have taken terra already during the siege.
arguably, if he had less primarchs but still had their legions, he would have taken terra. Perty, and morty were needed, but angron was a great batteringram too.
As someone whose 2 favorite loyalist Legions are the Blood Angels and Iron Hands, I LOVE how much Sangy shows up. Absolutely love it. I also HATE how little there is for Ferrus. Im reading the Heresy in chronological order and I think so far Ferrus has...2 shorts, a novella, and his Primarch book. And i just finished Eisenstein, so he dies NEXT.
Y'know im generally surprised by the topic for this week, mainly for the lack of buildup when the subject of primarchs is brought up for discussion but also because it's FERRUS MANNUS! and I find this very topical because I saw a meme an hour before this episode. It was "Don't fuck with us iron hands fans! No seriously please don't theirs only 2 of us and GW's writing has fucked us enough already!"
After the Dropsite Massacre, Daemon/Fulgrim gifted head of Ferrus and the Forgebreaker for Horus, who was actually fairly uncomfortable with this gift. Later, as the Heresy went on, he started to give Hamletian monologues for the skull, lamenting what has happened to the Legions. The Forgebreaker he passed further for Perturabo, who corrupting it and keeping it across the Millenia. Well, except that one time when the Blood Ravens somehow claimed it during the Aramus Crusades (DoWII).
Bricky, I would like to add few other small tidbits of knowladge about ferrus that you didnt metion. Ferrus kinds had "older brother" reputation among the primarchs who gets shit done. Iron hands were actually scary enemt for horus due to their methodical nature. Ferrus was I believe third primach found, very early into the great crusade soon after founding horus, so he was there since the beggining - That's why he got "older brother who gets shit done" rep - he did help many other primarchs establish themselves and was one of Gullimans "Dauntless few". For Iron hands episode you may want to read conversation between salamanders and iron hands after the dropsite massacre - Salamanders schooled iron hands about true meaning of words "The flesh is weak", lesson that was lost on them. The full quote was "the flesh is weak, but deeds endure"
I feel like a lot of Ferrus’ cool shit got glossed over in favor of jumping ahead to “whoops he’s dead.” Like the fact he was sent to conquer a system that was near-impossible to defeat early on in the Crusade and just went “The Emperor wants 11 of your worlds. I shall give him 10.” And obliterated a planet that rivaled the Legions just to get the rest in line. Or how he sparred with his sons to help them improve and learn to fight impossible odds against a primarch. Or how 90% those “tall tales” aren’t actually tall tales and Ferrus ACTUALLY DID THAT SHIT barehanded hunting Necron/Dark Age monstrosities for years, that includes fighting the Emperor to a standstill that leveled a mountain. Or how Ferrus was regarding by every other primarch as “the lynchpin” and Horus relied so heavily on convincing him that when Ferrus said no it freaked out the Warmaster. Or how Ferrus didn’t “overestimate” himself on Istvaan (thanks Fulgrim book for being really mid about this moment), but had to have multiple Legions, titans, and primarchs DEDICATED to isolating him. FINALLY in the Ferrus v Fulgrim fight Ferrus beat the living shit out of Fulgrim. Fulgrim just got daemon ex machina’d, roided up on warpjuice, and controlled by a daemon to win. It’s like how nobody mentions Magnus punched out one of Leman’s hearts, nobody mentions the fact Ferrus kicked Fulgrim’s ass. Glad to see my boys, but this feels like no effort was put into to looking into the character beyond reading through the wiki, and Lexicanum has a massive issue of not actually covering all the info about things. (Vulkan He’Stan only has two paragraphs for example)
I hope you talk about that time a surviving group of Iron hands escaped Istvaan with a single metal arm and some armour and built the rest of a replacement Ferrus out of bionics to give them orders. What's creepier? It sort of could. It moved it's fingers slightly too, implying the Necrodermis itself or possibly a fragment-of-the-fragment of the Dragon that Ferrus fought was retaking the 'body' built for it. I believe Vulkan took one look at it. He went "That is not my brother" and smashed it to pieces. In light of this, and the source of Ferrus's arms, is it any wonder that the 'Machine God' still smiles on the Iron Hands to this day?
17:17 The mercy is weakness bit reminded me of a part in a HH book when Horsus says 2 brothers at his equal in War. Gman and Ferrus. Ferrus specifically because he destroys his foes completely. Kinda hard to fight a second battle when everyone is dead 😂
A fun thing with Ferrus actually takes place after his death. Fulgrim, believing that he wasn't fully in his right mind when he killed Ferrus, thinks he could have convinced him if he were free of demonic possession. To this end he has Fabius Bile clone Ferrus Manus with his full memory, albeit gradually drip fed to him. Fulgrim then tries to convince clone Ferrus, clone Ferrus isn't convinced, and then they fight with Ferrus nearly killing Fulgrim each time but always narrowly losing. Fulgrim concludes that the reason for each clone's failure is that they're not the real Ferrus, as in his mind he would be able to convince the real Ferrus. Killing Ferrus is one of the few things that seems to emotionally wound Fulgrim, yet ironically he compulsively continues to kill them for making the same choice that the real Ferrus did. In fact Ferrus' staunch refusal to join him, even in an utterly hopeless situation that essentially guarantees his death is probably the most accurate aspect of his many cloned incarnations, and Fulgrim's refusal to accept this truth is an ironic form of self imposed torture.
"My natural strength!" said Ferrus Manus, a literal test tube baby crafted by the greatest scientific minds in Terran history using technology so advanced it would never again be mastered, weaved together with the arcane powers of the Immaterium by an immortal gestalt of a whole host of ancient psykers.
I fucking love ferrus even with the little that we’ve been given. I hope we get a good bit more down the line and they do him justice. Also there was a scene where emps and malcy boy were playing chess (regicide) where the emperor eluded to fixing ferrus
Fun fact: Ferrus grew up on the planet Medusa, and his nickname is "the Gorgon." In Greek mythology, the hero Perseus slew the Gorgon named Medusa by ... cutting her head off. Well played, GW.
Robute Guillimen considered Ferrus the most important of his Dauntless Few, the group of primarchs with which he could defeat any challenge no matter the odds. When he heard he had died it effected him the most.
@@antonakesson Yep, at least they changed the word anger a bit. Ferrus Manus literally means Iron Hand in Latin and Corvus Corax is the scientific name of the common raven.
In regards to the "all primarchs return" bit dk mentioned, I know in old lore there was a bit where the IHands gathered some meaty bits and one of ferrus' arms and was gonna try some kinda techno/necromancy thing. I believe one of the iron fathers destroyed it calling it slander. If I HAD to propose and idea on return, I got 2: either his necrodermis response him as a T1000 knock off, or he as a daemon primarch(saint?) Of the emperor is bound to some kinda tech: Daemon Engine Primarch, kinda like perty.
What I find most interesting about Iron Hands is how they reacted to Ferrus Manus's death. An entire legion of marines psychologically unequipped to deal with the trauma and loss. And thus reacting to it in the most unhealthy ways possible. Up to and including techno-necromancy. (God, I hope they talk about the Keys of Hel on the Iron Hands episode. That would be dope.)
If Ferrus had have been built up more earlier on; or given more time to develop and show that he wasn't just a cold jerk his death would have meant more. It isn't until books and books later that Guilliman says that he considered Ferrus as one of 'the dauntless few'; the Primarchs that could absolutely be counted on no matter what. He felt that if the Iron Hands and the Ultramarines were a combined force, they could not lose. Any war. Even later again in the story Horus laments Ferrus' death, saying that if he had have been turned, the imperium would have already lost by that point in the story.
If I'm not mistaken, there was a blurb of when Vulkan was testing out his legion/tactics with the Emperor watching. Ferrus and his legion were kind of the backup/standby to help. Ferrus had made a quip about Vulkan. It's not much, but it exists somewhere.
So my take away is that Ferrus is like Quicksilver in the MCU. A cool character with cool abilities that would be great if we saw more done with them, but they had to die because someone had to die on the hero side to make the battle feel more impactful
The more you know about Ferrus and the Iron Hands the more you want go have more! GW is sleeping on a GOLD MINE with the Iron Hands lore! Ferrus was in a lot of ways brash and brutish, maybe even bullheaded, but in a way that is understandable for someone who constantly wants to improve, to be better, to strive for more. He wanted better for his sons. He wanted them to grow in character, to become more skilled, to persist and constantly improve, to strive for greater things. He was the strict father that is harsh on his sons because he knows they can do better, bc he wants them to do better, to be better. And in broad view, he succeeded. The Iron Hands emerged out of the Heresy and their gene father's early death arguably stronger than they were before. They persist thanks to the lessons Ferrus taught them and the character he helped forge. They certainly aren't exactly what he envisioned them to be, but they didn't disappoint him either. Even after suffering tremendous losses in the drop site massacre, even after loosing their Primarch and most of the senior members of the legion, they fight on still. Iron Hands are definitely one of my favorite legions and the way GW has been treating them makes me sad, bc there is so much untapped potential in them...
You wrong, read more book. I'm partly kidding but Ferrus is pretty neat but you have to scour through all the short stories of the heresy and the salamanders books cause his interactions with Vulcan do give a bit more insight to who he is as a character. Like the not liking his legions self mutilation, originally it was his idea to do that or he at least gave his blessing, but later after several grueling campaigns and a particular fight against Eldar where the used magic to just turn of the iron hands bionics and a bunch of "weak" fleshy guardsmen had to step up and pretty much save the day, if I recall correctly it's after that fight when Ferrus is talking with Vulcan that he says he wants to remove the metal from his hands and get his legion to stop relying so heavily upon bionics. There is lore on Ferrus, not as much as many other primarch but most of his stories are mainly just him having prolonged cameos in other characters stories but the story I mentioned above (can't remember the title, it's later in the heresy series) we do get probably the only real Ferrus pov scenes, we see his battle field command post and how it works, we get to see his thoughts as he goes through a tunnel full of cabal bullshit, its a lot of fun, I recommend it especially for new comers and iron hands fans. Other than that, good podcast as always can't wait to hear about my boy, the man, the myth, the legend, Ssss SADRAK MEDUSAN!
At least the can take solace with the Necron fans in the fact that while they only have a few books, all of those books are excellent. Like, all the 40k era Iron Hands books are great.
The only way to bring somehow Ferrus back to the fray, is when the warp gets even more fcked up, then they will flesh out the legion of the damned as a whole new faction for the imperium, with Ferrus as a sort of leader figure. It would bring a shitton of money, a whole new lineup of minies and a lot of interesting lore for us to munch on. These are the sort of stuff why i love 40k so much. All the possibilities arr basically endless. The lore itself is nearly as big and endless as the galaxy we are destined to rule.
I do think that Ferrus is very… underused in the lore. But after reading Head of the Gorgon, I definitely have a lot more respect and liking for Ferrus. It’s one of those books where he’s the main focus, but he doesn’t show up too often. But when he did, OH LORD did he make a statement.
Well 40k fans kinda like some internal conflict more than a simple guy that kicks ass. I mean with the amount of people shouting "Magnus did nothing wrong" we get the impression that 40k fandom is flooded with nerds that had it rough through highschool but did nothing about it.
Ferrus coming back leading the Legion of the Damned is a cool idea Ive always liked. Especially if he shows up when Fulgrim returns and joining Ferrus upon the battlefield would be a very familiar looking Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought. As for Sanguinius return, I mean isnt that more or less what the Sanguinor is?
same. Legion of the damned ferrus would be a cool way to bring him back (since we have already something similar to that in master of mankind). but it wouldn't be the same ferrus. but an echo of himself. a shadow. it would be a great way to bring back fulgim into the setting. the two brothers clashing again. or a way to bring clonegrim into the setting. with maybe legion of the damned ferrus sacrificing himself to bring clonegrim to full strength or something interesting. but bricky doesn't seem to like legion of the damned ferrus. which kinda confuses me.
Ok guys, this is my favorite Primarch and legion and you were right, I'm a ad mech fan first. You could have told about the clones and the talk Horus had to Ferrus head too. The moment he met Vulkan. Well you did your best.
I knew exactly what that art piece was when I saw it and it's pretty great. I wished for a while that someone would make a good rendition of Bequa Kynska and that performance on the Emperor's Children's ship.
Um , there was the Gaardinal thing tho , an only instance where he gets some form of character development. Like he wanted to be Warmaster but is bad at diplomacy so he tried doing it but failed and started to doubt himself ,since he as a mentor to some primarchs expected himself to be the best. Eventually he said fuck this diplomacy and Warmaster crap , and decided that he should be the best primarch there can be , but the best Ferrus he can be. Which gave him some peace of mind and purpose which many primarchs dont have.
My favorite part about Ferrus Manus v Cuckgrim fight was the part where Manus totally manhandled the traitor until he didn't start to use the Lairblade
At the risk of sounding like a Ferrus fan (which I am quickly becoming), the man is severely underestimated. He is the only one who could actually go toe to toe with Vulkan in a punch on and was arguably stronger, he is arguably one of the if not the best melee fighter of the primarch while still retaining tactical prowess, Guilliman named among his top 5 primarchs in which he stated that given they all work together they could pretty much do anything. Fulgrim cloned the man to convince himself he could've turned him to chaos instead and every single time he got told to get fucked. Man was legitimately 40k's Heracles.
I think an important part of the psychology of Ferus Manus going into istvan 5 is his insecurities about how his loyal brothers would think of him that Fulgrim thought he could turn him. He believed that they would question his loyalty, that Fulgrim had a reason to think he would have turned. He was insistant on leading the charge to punish the traitors to prove that he was loyal. It does say as much in the books. I just can't be assed to look up exactly where. It wasn't an additional thing either, happened between Fulgrim trying to turn him and Fulgrim killing him.
24:45 I am willing to bet money that DK's "Spartans are Greek" knowledge comes from a certain Hollywood movie starring Brad Pitt. This is Imphotep all over again lol.
There is one throw away line about ferrus that adds to his badassness. There is a point when Horus is seething over the fact that all the primarchs that decided to followed him was the "damaged ones". When someone then asked him who out of all the loyalist primarchs he wished had followed him instead he answered "Ferrus Manus, he knew war. If He had been on our side we would have already won this war".
Little thing on his silver hands. The reason they are so powerful isn't strength. It's that he can cold form metal with them. He basically sculpts metal
Excellent, an episode about Mr. Iron Hands, primarch of the Iron Hands (Ferrus Manus in actual Latin translates to "iron hands", absolute peak naming GW).
I was eating while watching this episode, just listening looking at my phone while chewing... look up and at 25:58 the "Cleveland" picture while Bricky described some rundown place got me so good i spit out of my food. Well done shy lol
I think they’re far less ‘purge the weak’ as in kill them and more ‘purge the weak’ within yourself with cybernetics, training and self mutilation. They don’t get high on their strength and perfection (like the EC), but rather it depresses some of them as they never feel perfect and good enough. In his own opinion, no one, not him and his student Vulkan, not his co-tank-creater Guilliman, not Sanguinius and Horus, nor Lorgar and Magnus, none of them were as close to eachother as Ferrus and Fulgrim, and their united need to be perfect and better, and, when the Iron Hands failed their Primarch and eachother, they saw themselves as weak and went even further into the self mutilation and self hatred that Ferrus never wanted to encourage Also they were considered urban masters, not because they were particularly the best, but because they never hesitated due to potential civilian casualties
I've read the Ferrus Manus book, it's not one of my favorites in the primarch series but I do think it gives some insight to how he thinks and acts. You get to see some interactions between him and Fulgrim, how he acts around his sons, how he tries to prove that he isn't what his brothers think of him during this compliance and how he handles adversity. There are also some interesting interactions with some Emperor's Children that is under his command.
if you look into the lore about Iron Hands, they actually resurrected Iron Hands Marines to fight again with the Keys of Hel. though they turned out to have lost most of their memory, being more or less insane and what they remember most of is how they died. AND now they are trying to resurrect Ferrus Manus :D
Ferrus Manus was the man who singlehandedly doomed the entire Imperium. If he didn't shit on Perturabo for seeing the maelstrom watching his every move, Perty might've brought it up to the Emps, or better yet, Magnus. Instead, he made sure Perturabo would never ever speak of it again, to anyone, and as a consequence it'd drive his worst qualities further. Man carried the entire rebellion on his back, and it would've easily shattered without him.
So some of other stuff I know regarding Ferrus: * the Cabal... I think.... tried to approach him and proselytize him before they went to Alpharius (short story Feat of Iron) * Horus actually kept Ferrus' head. (Don't remember which book or story it was in, but there is a brief moment in which it is mentioned. I believe Horus is speaking to it too)
"Why didn't Fulgrim slay Ferrus with the blade he made UWU" - well fudge because he couldn't even slay him with Laer blade, the demon in the blade did it itself. Had Fulgrim taken other weapon with him that day Ferrus might have met a different fate entirely. And yes, "his own primarch book" does give some essential info. Especially on the fact why is he the merciless bastard and why did he actually want to become Warmaster. Because he thought others were doing the shitty job with the Crusade! Slay more, slay faster, and it will end sooner, and more people will live in the Golden age his father has promised, that's freaking why. Ferrus isn't a coldblooded sociopath, he's trying to be effective to the point of being merciless (Kurze walked quite the same path until his conditioning and his mental illness took better of him). And even then he fails to be unemotional. The whole point of Iron Hands is that they TRY to be as logical and effective as machines but are too hot-blooded to ever reach that point, and that's good! I don't even like Iron Hands that much lol.
Honestly out of all the primarchs that should return it should be Ferrus. For two reasons: 1. Vengeance against Fulgrim (It would give Fulgrim something to do other than jerk off in his castle) and the second being him dealing with the ramifications of his mistakes that lead his legion down the path of Techno-fetishism. It'd be cool to see him get introspective on his worldview and try to make amends with his legion. Also on the tabletop front you could just have him build new gear for the legion and make money.
I think they touched on it in the fulcrum episode.

@@darklombax2580 If I remember correctly, it was in his primarch book.
100% man, when you said they achieved what their father wanted on their own, I like to think FM would be very proud of his sons
And he threw (iron) hands with the Emperor before joining him on the Great Crusade!
GW should do some kind of "Legends of the Crusade" or "Crusade Battles" to show characters like Ferrus at their peak during the Great Crusade.

So sad.

You sent Ferrus to scour those that wouldn’t from the face of the galaxy.

The pain when the guy with no lore still got a video before Corax. This depression is lore accurate
*Sad Raven noises*
Not to mention Leman and Magnus
Been wanting leman forever
He's just very sneaky and AdRid haven't noticed abt it either
It'd be funny if Adric made a video on the missing primarchs before the remaining primarchs, there's enough hints and info about them out there that you can probably make a 30 to 40 minute video...
Manus is too handsome in this picture. He was said to be covered in burn Marks made by Necron tech and scars during war. In other words. Great job again! Keep it up guys!
Next they'll make a femboy Ferrus Manus
@@williansnobre I think Archon of Flesh already did it, or at the very least an Iron Hand
My favourite quote in perhaps all of the Horus Heresy comes from The First Heretic, shortly before Ferrus died:
"They are not my hands. For if fighting is all there is, if we may never pause to reflect on what such devotion to strength is doing to us, then our compulsion will only grow."
And it's the only one that makes me cry.
Most likely but can also see wolves being last and thousand sons second last
@@Wolfbroa There is that possibility and I bet you Shy is going to pull a 180 and do that.
They haven't done blood angels yet I believe
@@alisutherland1103 The kinda did, but Bricky needs to read the book that released last December/this February.
Edit 2: Fun and/or Depressing Facts About Ferrus Manus (of Questionable Canonicity)
-A captain of the Astra Militarum once fell asleep infront of Ferrus when he was giving him a dressing down, along with some Ultramarines and K-Sons, since he had spent the last four days awake on amphetamines.
No you are right , and did a better job for that matter. Ferrus is an easy man to research so i dunno why they skipped the already little lore he has.
Thanks so much for the lore dump. I’ve been reading Shattered Legions, but originally wanted a book more focused on The Gorgon. It’s a real shame there doesn’t seem to be a condensed book focusing on him.
Just a little correction one one bit he says to arkaduana that that the ring has few stories to tell but not none,so it is implied that at least some primarchs dueled him,at least of those found at the time
@@sokratikas I think I misremembered it that way because it's alot funnier when Ferrus tries to fight his brothers and they all say "no thank you."
I thought they were Germanic? One of the tribes has the same name of a real world Germanic tribe.
honestly, ferrus as little care as the writers have for him is actually one of my favourite primarchs
For the Iron hands episode next week you have to cover the origin of the legions motto "The flesh is weak"
I talked to the other Iron Hands fan and we're both pretty impressed with this episode
Guiliman is Roman hence his greater propensity for building monolithic structures and great empires
43:56 well it was described as “the tenth son of a fallen empire, reborn in his FATHER’s emulating wrath.”
So it seems highly likely
I feel like a lot of Ferrus’ cool shit got glossed over in favor of jumping ahead to “whoops he’s dead.”
Like the fact he was sent to conquer a system that was near-impossible to defeat early on in the Crusade and just went “The Emperor wants 11 of your worlds.
Ferrus: "Do not mimic my augmentations, sons."
Angron: "PUT NAILS IN BRAIN!"
17:17
The mercy is weakness bit reminded me of a part in a HH book when Horsus says 2 brothers at his equal in War.
Ferrus Manus is up there with Corvus Corax as the less subtly named Primarch of the bunch.
And Angron is more subtle?
"The flesh is weak but the deeds remain"
Out of all of the Primarchs, it is my humble opinion that Ferrus Manus is one of them.
He sure is.
So my take away is that Ferrus is like Quicksilver in the MCU. A cool character with cool abilities that would be great if we saw more done with them, but they had to die because someone had to die on the hero side to make the battle feel more impactful
Aw man, I was hoping for a long episode today.
The lore on Ferrus is a head short unfortunately.
Don't fuck with Iron Hands fans, there's 2 of them and the lore is punishment enough.
Mans drowned a dragon in lava and roughhoused the emperor for hours...how can you hate him
Well 40k fans kinda like some internal conflict more than a simple guy that kicks ass.
Hearing that DK has a *Hazbin Hotel* playmat (for his desk) is honestly kinda awesome. I knew he had good taste! Mostly
I still find it funny that Ferrus's first action upon meeting the emperor was to say "You, Me, Mano a Mano let's go"
Ok guys, this is my favorite Primarch and legion and you were right, I'm a ad mech fan first.
I love the Iron Hands and Ferrus Manus, but GW really didn't try with Ferrus's Lore.
“The flesh is week, but deeds endure.”
Oh man I’m ordering that kick ass mariviglia print the moment I get home. I want that beautiful piece up on my wall for sure!
Kinda weird to honor one of the most horrific and depraved events in the series in one’s home but you do you. Lol
24:45 I am willing to bet money that DK's "Spartans are Greek" knowledge comes from a certain Hollywood movie starring Brad Pitt. This is Imphotep all over again lol.
Imagine if GW bring Ferrus Manus back as a necron?
There is one throw away line about ferrus that adds to his badassness.
There is a point when Horus is seething over the fact that all the primarchs that decided to followed him was the "damaged ones". When someone then asked him who out of all the loyalist primarchs he wished had followed him instead he answered "Ferrus Manus, he knew war. If He had been on our side we would have already won this war".
As an Iron hands fan and tabletop player, I'm just happy that my favorite legion is included.
I relate so hard to DK's evolution of just accepting defeat on ever guessing what the topic of the episode is but still getting some Ws in
Little thing on his silver hands.
In his own opinion, no one, not him and his student Vulkan, not his co-tank-creater Guilliman, not Sanguinius and Horus, nor Lorgar and Magnus, none of them were as close to eachother as Ferrus and Fulgrim, and their united need to be perfect and better, and, when the Iron Hands failed their Primarch and eachother, they saw themselves as weak and went even further into the self mutilation and self hatred that Ferrus never wanted to encourage
Also they were considered urban masters, not because they were particularly the best, but because they never hesitated due to potential civilian casualties
"You are weeeeaaaaaak, Cooooorvuuuuuuuuuus...."
(Smack)
That's not what the real Ferrus Manus would say.
-Vulkan, Primarch of the Salamanders
I am aware ferrus
14:02 I’d imagine it’s cause that planets tectonic plates are thin or something. It’s why everything shook like it was on a water bed.
Manus will come back as a metal slime as the necrodermis absorbed the rest of him and decided now to make itself known
So some of other stuff I know regarding Ferrus:
* the Cabal... I think.... tried to approach him and proselytize him before they went to Alpharius (short story Feat of Iron)
* Horus actually kept Ferrus' head.
The pop when dk got the quote right was real
Still funny when talks of Nocturne-like hellworlds, we just get 'Cleveland' image. XD
