Thr fact that you use the word new is telling. All of these sights have been researched for years... Saying it's a 2023 discovery is lying. Period. Discounting the massive amount of work over the years is terrible and dishonest. Use the correct words. Newly confirmed discoveries in 2023. They were discovered and known about for years. Just because a piece a paper says it's true after years of research doesn't mean its new.
So beautiful that all over the world, people are working in teams to discover new truths about our shared human history. Archaeology is truly a lovely field

Appreciate you bringing to our attention so many important finds! I'm really interested in learning more about all the sites hidden in the Amazon, as well as the finds in Peru. Seems so little is really known about these areas. The temple in ancient Sumer is also really intriguing! Can't wait to see what's found, and it's really encouraging considering all the tech breakthroughs helping look under vegetation, under water, and even under the earth itself! Pretty exciting!
The most recently announced discovery I can think of that was not mentioned is the discovery of a previously unknown language in the archives of the Hittites.

You have taught me more than I learned in school! BTW, back then Plate Tectonics was just a theory and the Eratic Rocks found in Willamette Valley, Oregon were attributed to glaciers not the Missoula Floods. Keep up the good work David and Natalie! Happy Holidays!
I have always aimed to learn something new each day. It stems from many decades ago when I was a child: my daddy told me that no day was wasted as long as I learned something new. 😊 From that point on, I promised to try to never waste a single day!
The glacial erratics of Willamette Valley are now said to be from the Missoula Floods? Whoa... Can you point me at info about that? I know the Willamette Meteorite (huge) was thought to have fallen near Canada, and moved here by glaciers...

Yes, 2023 was bad for many. If it was for you, you have my sympathy. It was a rough year for my family, for sure. I lost my eldest son in August, who passed away basically for reasons unknown. I now only have my younger son. I don't even have my soulmate, who chose 3 years ago to toss away nearly 40 years together because I wasn't any fun any more (I was staying home due to the C-19 that could easily kill me due to health reasons). I've had too much to mourn, lately. If only extra money in my pocket could ease my pain, I'd have no pain at all, but the old adage is true: money can't buy a single ounce of happiness when your life is empty and cold.

A big Thank You for putting this on a “proper’ video David / Prof. Miano! I was gutted when I saw similar roundups come up as ‘Live’ shows. 5:59 One thing I would like to add: the Zapotecs aren't just an ancient culture, they are a modern ethnic group. More than half a million Zapotec people live in Mexico today, and most of them speak one branch or another of the Zapotec languages.

God I love this stuff. The two highlights for me are 1. The Amazon finds and speculation. It sorta makes sense if you realize that, with previous ice ages, it's totally logical that the climate would've been more temperate there and probably housed most of humanity in the area at that time. There's probably thousands of sites to discover there. 2. By far for me is Girsu.
