It was such a shame the way Marinescu was treated and even sadder that she had to retire prematurely due to a back injury. She had not reached her full potential - she had so much more to give. She was an incredibly talented gymnast and in my view epitomised everything a gymnast should be.
Gymnastics were just better back then. Gymnasts today are athletes. Back then they were artists and athletes. There's just no grace in today's competitions. It's brute strength that overshadows everything.
If she belonged in the beam final then Amanar sure as hell belonged in the All Around final over her. Amanar was a WAY stronger contender for the AA, if she performed as she did in Team Optionals she likely wins the gold, but that didnt stop marinescu fans from whining about Belu pulling her for Amanar. This despite Amanar outscoring her by almost 6 tenths in team optionals, LOL!
Marinescu was pulled from the All Around competition since Amanar put up a mammoth 39.387 in team optionals, by far the highest score of the Games, and which would have easily won the AA had she duplicated the same performance as Lilia won with only a 39.255. And since Marinescu by contrast put up a paltry 38.800 where her only mistake was a 2 tenth deduction on her beam dismount, meaning even with a perfect competition she is still a measley 39.000, and about a fall behind Amanar's point total. The All Around was optionals only, Marinescu only made it (barely) over Amanar due to Amanar having a disaesterous compulsory beam performance where she put up a 8.687 vs Marinescu's 9.6. Amanar scored higher on each of the 3 other compulsory routines, and much higher on all 4 optional routines. All Around was optionals only. Only an idiot would have kept Marinescu in over Amanar, now that pulling gymnasts who qualified was legal. It had everything to do with her "performance" and her inability to be nearly as much a threat as Amanar was. Pulling Marinescu from the AA for Amanar was FAR more justified than pulling Milo from beam finals for Marinescu which I notice you say nothing of.
Alexandra Marinescu wasn't trained with the other Romanians in Deva. Belu pulled her from two All-Around competitions even though she earned the spot in favor of Amanar twice.

Yes - you are so right - it's very sad what gymnastics these days has become!
Muy bonita
Do you know her score?
9.600
@@sylvainiac all judges give her 9.6 except the romanian who give her 9.8, lol
Belu should have kept her out of the balance beam final.
This was such a beautiful beam routine. Not robotic like so many other routines. Very artistic and beautiful. The subtle differences are very obvious.

I agree. Milo probably would have medaled. She was a legend in her last competition and it was completely unfair to pull her.
