Today for me is new bike day, and after 45 years, I bought my second bicycle, and it's the Trek Farley 5. I am super stoked about how capable this bike is! Sure is a change from the 1970's JC Penny "Swinger" 20" bike with the banana seat that I had when I was young. Now I can go overland!
Well I did it, bought a brand new F5, just got mine home, it's dark in the 20ºs but I might get up and take it for a ride at least a few miles. They were having a wicked snow storm west of here where I had to drive to get it (160 miles each way)..I hope that's coming this way by tomorrow because I'll have my first chance to ride it in the snow. About the sticker @ 6:45 mine has one that says "I'm living on a bike, down by the river"..na but that would be funny.
Nice bike 👍I’ve had my Farley 9.6 about four yrs now and my trek stache about five yrs a few mods 12 speed dropper posts and bars stems and seats one wheel bearing on the stache and tyres otherwise no problems
I'll have to go to my local Trek dealer, but what I see at their website, they don't have any in stock, and I'd probably have to order than wait. As Chris Farley would say "I have what doctors call...a little wait problem".
Hi again, just picked up my new Farley 5 yesterday, you helped me choose this bike, my LBS just happened to get only one in and I jumped on it , I’m in the NY metro area and these bikes are extremely hard to come by at this time, most shops telling me they probably wouldn’t see them until late spring or summer, bike looks so nice, had them do the tubeless upgrade, can’t wait to try it out, this is my first fat bike, thanks again !
What size Bontrager TLR Rim Strip does the Large frame require? I'm referring to the black rubber strip that shows thru the rims. I was just at their site and they offer both 29" and 27.5 diameters in various widths up to 30 mm. I wanted to know that so if I wanted to find another brand that makes them in red to match the Trek Sticker. Of course my F5 is a large frame just as yours in this video.
First thing to do, is ditch those tires. Heavy with lots of rolling resistance. Barbegazi is ten leagues above. Both weight and speed 🙃 Just my opinion , dont kill me 😁
Yeah they are definitely heavyweight! Good in the snow though. I have heard nothing but good about the Barbegazis....think I might put a set on my 7 this summer!
Thanks man! Tire pressure depends on the terrain, but usually for flatter, smoother trials I usually run around 10psi, for rocky, rooty Gnar, usually 8psi is the sweet spot for me. Snow in the winter is around 5psi (That is all with tubless set up) 👍
I weigh around 160 and roll 27.5x4.5 tires tubeless at 6.5 to 7 (front) and 7.5 to 8 (rear). I have different tires for summer and winter but keep the same width for river bottom riding. Studded tires for the ice. I've been below 4 psi in deep snow.
I honestly haven't messed with the drop out yet. It feels pretty good to me as it. I many tryout playing around with it this summer. I may have to go down to a 4.0 tire to do it though. We'll see.
WOW! Nice ride! Is the 5 that much more nimble than the 7? Are you keeping the 7? I love my 7 (400 miles now) and just studded it for ice. I found using a air compressor to blow out the stud holes makes it a simple and easy job. Farley on!
Thanks! Yeah I still have the 7! The 5 is lighter but the 7 is smoother over gnarly stuff. I loved both! I consider myself very fortunate to be able to choose between the 7 and the 5! I did notice last season that rigid is definitely the way to go in the snow so I'll be riding the 5 this winter! Farley on!🤙
Hey bro! I'm 6' exactly so I can get away with an XL but L frame feels a little better. But each manufacturer's size is a little bit different so I would always recommend to pedal one before you buy! 😎
They are raceface but I’m not sure if they are limited to raceface only. I believe they are a universal fit but can’t say for sure. Sorry that’s not more helpful😕
I've spent over $12 grand, on Trek & Specialized bikes the past ten years(probably not much to those that buy Trek), and have never been a recipient of bikes-to-review. Guess they don't appreciate my honesty, instead of being a simple commercial for the brand.
I don't know man🤷♂️ They've never sent me any bike or equipment either. I had to buy everything myself. Maybe reach out to them if you're interested in them sending you something for review. I Dont know how that works, but You never know, they just might do it 🤷♂️👍.
Actually, very good. Look back at my playlist and I have a video where I ride the Farley on a paved rail trial. They of course aren't as fast as a touring bike, but they are comfortable and can be great for endurance training. But they do great on any surface really! 👍
10 speed drive train is a definite limitation of the bike. 12 sp. would be so much nicer. I can ride 35km/h at the fastest gear which I suppose is good enough for MTB .
Nice bike man! How tall are you? I see you’re using an large frame. I’m trying to get one of those, but I’m debating whether to you order a medium or Large frame. Grrr!
@@وعدہِفردا yeah. And each manufacturer sizing is different so it varies from Company to company. The best thing to do is to pedal one around and see how it feels.
M should be fine but it depends on your body shape/dimensions and personal preference. same height here, I chose large, it was a little bit big at first and theres times my feet cant reach, especially if im on a ledge or something but i found it a bit more comfortable and better-fitting once i start riding, just wish my legs were an inch longer Lmao. i also have a single-speed with a medium-sized frame and i feel more 'on-the-bike,' better for slicing through traffic or whatnot but otherwise id prefer L, you should try and test ride
@@bananapower7314 it depends on the ride you're looking for. If you want something a little more playful, you could get by with the L. If you want a little more stability and comfort, get the XL. I have one L farley and one XL farley. I like both. XL fees more comfortable, L feels like I can flick it around a little easier.

Ive got the same last summer
Awesome ride to blast in trails/jump/downhills etc....

My Same bike I love what you do thanks good idea
Thanks for checking out the channel! 👍🤙
Had the same bike changed the brakes for shimano saint and renthal bars with hope stem loved it then I sold it regrettably

It should be 27.5 I belive. 😎
I almost bought a Trek Farley but I got a "Fatback Rhino" instead. Some day I will try 27.5 fat!
Fatback is a great brand! I had a skookum. Loved it! Great company with great service! I'm sure you'll love the Rhino!
Had my Farley 7 a month today I love it got a new Giant Roam3 2weeks ago it's a great hybrid my fatbikes and my Roscoe 7 are my favorites
It's nice to have options 😎

@@theaveragefatbiker3493 Good. You will love the difference. Almost 800g lighter, with great speed and grip . Gnars should only come with studs
Love it
Got the same bike
First thing was adding zip ties to front cables and removing reflectors !

Have you or do you plan to adjust the wheelbase or “horizontal drop out”
If so what are your impressions
I’m caving this week and studing my tires

Congrats on the new whip. Selling the 7 now? Or keeping both pairs.
Keeping both. I recently sold my Fatback Skookum. I locked this Farley up in its place

Hello Brother, nice video
I have a question what’s your HEIGHT and which SIZE you choose?

Are those crank arm boot covers raceface specicific ?

trek probably have a whole market of ppl who spend more than that on their products every year lol it's a hugee brand man
Pardon my impatience, but how are they on a paved surface, does it seem like the top gear ratio is too low?

Several Dancing girls 💃🏻💃🏼💃🏽 in the backdrop would make for good use of your background music.

I’m 6ft exactly and can ride an XL comfortably, but a L fits me even better. You would be fine on a L or a M i think👍

you're skinny to be considered a fat biker...
only because of the camera angles 😜
