We cannot call ourselves the richest country until homelessness is a thing of the past.

As some of us sit down tomorrow and give thanks, please take a moment and think of all those we've lost, all those who've slipped threw the cracks in society. None of us can do it alone, yet somehow we've conditioned ourselves to turn inward and overlook the millions who struggle and just need a helping hand to see their true worth again.
Since previous generations couldn't seem to fix the issue, we need to do it ourselves. Lets all make a pledge to make 2019 the year we reach down and help those in need. No human being should have to live like this or to be looked down upon by so many.

It is heartbreaking to see people live like this, and whatever the reasons, it amounts to lack of love. That is what is sad about it. Imagine for a moment that one of these people are your son, or your brother. ...because they are.

  • @justmom66
    @justmom66 12 років тому

I agree you can not help everyone, but you can help just one person. You can treat these people like people, and not less than human. They are on the streets for many different reasons, but any one of us could be on the streets as well. "God does not expect us to do great things, only small things with great love." Help when and where you can...we are all one and we are in this together.

Its really sad that there is homeless people all over the world. I have many stories of how I have helped the homeless. I usually don't give the homeless money but I will buy them a nice meal and clothes and products they need. I was out of work since March and got hired in November so I feel lucky I am finally making an income not much just miniwage but its something. Its really sad how people are losing there jobs and businesses are failing and going out of business and our country is failing.

No matter what you say this makes you realise how lucky we are. we have food shelter and a family. these people have nothing and people say o they should get a job. how can a man who has nothing not even a nice pair of clothing be able to get a job. we hear people say o they made their choices we cant help them. yes we can but those who say we cant are heartless a homeless man would give his life just for what we have and the people who dont believe this are idiots.

My house is on a busy street, and i remember all the times we would be doing work around my house and several bums per hour would walk up to us and ask for money, beer, cigarettes or drugs. when i would ask each one of them if they would like to help us paint or move stuff or ANYTHING to do with physical labor, they would all say things like "naw man, i dont do that stuff." or " i dont be doin that work shit. work is for suckers." or even "naw, i just want the money, aint doin no work."

sometimes it's a combination of things that crush you and drive you over the edge. When you are in that low state of being, you cannot function in society any longer because it seems society itself was the author of your fate. It really wasn't, but when you are down and really out, it seems so. It takes a powerful commitment to rise again after you are "thrown-away". It is easier to piss and moan and blame and keep that company rather than becoming responsible. It is hard, but a better course.

ive dealt with them for over 9 years now. almost daily. i never see them with kids. they are usually wandering around alone, or in packs with other 50ish year old bums. and shame on the adult homeless people who are out on the streets with their kids. shelters are available but when the adult bum is too stubborn to go to these places, at least for the child's sake, then i dont know what to say. the bums are so scared the assistance place will pressure them to fix their life and get better.

Some one needs to shed light on this pandemic, and one that could be resolved by managing life by sincere humanity and kindness rather than be governed by big money and ill-fated promises from our politicians and world leaders. Hope you don't mind me sharing a video I did related to this sad reality in a world of plenty. Mark

I hate to hear "get a job" come from peoples mouth. Homeless people have all the odds going against them. And for the people who made it out, they just beat the odds which were slim to none. I have heard count less stories from homeless men, stories that could make a grown man almost boohoo. I would know since I actually take time out my life to volunteer to help donate, feed, and actually listen. Please people help each other out as humans we are all each others keeper.

Indeed some people are heartless, making fun of them as if they know what's it's like to be homeless, cold, hungry and lonely. Calling them lazy and druggie. Try to like their lives and then post a comment here, and see if you think it's funny to be so unfortunate. They are human being just like us, and they deserve better.

The first response to bj616 concerns me and my working through homelessness.
Cobby, on the otherhand, did actually go through literal hell which affected him, and it could be blamed on society.
Mine was not the case. There is a great difference between Cobby and myself. I consider him a Hero.
Mine was attributed to a series of events I could only ascribe to me.I was at a place in time in which I could not extricate myself easily from. I was very angry and confused. I had to sort things out.

you know what I feel very bad for these people, but it's there own fault that they live like this. They can get up and a job, they choose to live like this, there are shelters for the homeless they can go there, there are also soup kitchens, all kinds of places help people that are like this.

yes, i think it is how they CHOSE to live their life. they're living it, aren't they? that's a choice in itself. i honestly don't understand why a person cannot just get so absolutly frustrated and disgusted with their life that they decide to change it. Yes, they decided that the way they are living now is just how it's going to be. if they didn't want it this way, they would do SOMETHING to change it. no im not perfect, but i decided i didn't want to live like them and so i don't.

It's kinda like here in Mexico we see homeless, orphaned, and handicapped people all the time. And you get the same sentiment when you seen them, you give them you're spare bus money but you know that will only help buy them just one meal.... point is, this is a seriously fucked up world.

People refuse to care about the homeless. People drive right by them and say nothing. These people don't have homes, cars, food, or bed. We drive right by them going to our out warm homes while they suffer in the night with an empty stomach and loneliness. It's harder for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God than a poor person. Let the first be last, and the last be first. I will care for the poor.

I really think that its sad that other people make fun of these homeless people, I mean I saw nearly everyone in London just walking past the less-fortunate not even looking at them! I almost went over punched them! I just really think people should be sympathetic, I mean a pound ain't gonna put you in debt, but it could get people something to eat or drink.

often passers will remark, "They'll just use it to buy drugs or alcohol", my response has always been, "have you ever lived like this? I haven't, but I can imagine how hard that must be on the soul. If they are drinking or doing drugs to try and forget, I can at least understand that, hell I can almost condone it. those of us who are more fortunate have no idea the struggles they face. Just take a look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs and you can easily see how someone without their basic needs met cannot even fathom looking towards any of the things above.

The best excuse for not helping is "they will just use the money for drugs or alcohol." You don't have to give them money, just a simple hello, how are you, can make a difference. Talk with them and see how you can reallly help..... thats if you have the time, because I know you have to go to work, to school, the bank, the gym, the store....ect... and don't have time for these people..... Don't worry I am also guilty of this and I feel ashamed!

If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry, and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. Isaiah 58:10
A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Proverbs 22:9
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. Proverbs 28:27
