Late reply, but don't worry. With the release of Forbidden West, that'll change. Horizon was a success but a quiet one. As a fan, I have every intention of being loud about HFW.
Great video. I always found it fascinating that the only tribe that doesn't have face paint is the Oseram. They keep their face clean and instead tattoo their chest and arms, a rather permanent skin decoration than face paint. I hope we get to learn the cultural significance and meaning of the Oseram tattoos in the future.
I'm not sure Sona's marking actually stands for brave. Its more likely her family marking. Her son Varl is a brave but his little sister Vala also has the same Mark before the proving takes place. I guess they just labled it brave in Aloys inventory
I noticed that too. I tend to think of them as maybe family or clan markings because Nakoa and her aunt also have the same marking, if I'm remembering correctly. I guess it was easier to name them after a class or profession rather than a family in the game.
possibly, but i think it belongs to your own mother, if Sona had adopted Aloy, maybe. if she takes Varl as a mate, most likely shed not take the paint of his family. Nora don't marry, they pair up and ask the matriarchs for a blessing to have children, outside of having children they each still belong to their mothers family
I Think that in the Nora, the markings are for family(since they mostly match family) except for the mark for seeker and death seeker since both give up family and tribe to seek their mission. it reflects that the matriarchal line is what matters most and how distinct the seeker and death seeker are from the regular tribe, although perhaps the markings reflect the role that the family is most known for. perhaps the individual decides which they want to display. The other tribes do all seem to mark the individual status by their face paint, which interestingly distinguishes between the communal value of the Nora, and the individualistic values of both the Banuk and Carja, although their individualism is massively different in motivation.
its so hard to think of a question that hasn't in some way already been answered in one of your other videos but im just glad you keep coming up with more
anyone notice the similarities between the Seeker mark and the logo for Zero Dawn shown in Herres holo talk? I also think the mark that Varl and Rost wear is similar.
I really liked this one. I hope the facepaint in Forbidden West is more canon...like how Sona facepaint should've been more unique like her WarChief title.
If im remembering correctly, I do believe there was one other Nora NPC who had the mark of the Death Seeker. Her name is Marea, and she's the woman who like Aloy won the proving during her time.
it is talana's armor. carja ____ master, i forget the proper name. you can collect that, Sona's silent hunter master armor and a Banuk warek chieftain master in the frozen wilds. i think Talanas armor is able to be fireproof, Sona's is almost invisible ( i can sneak up on anything in that one, and the banuk is freezeproof
I'm not sure if you are right with the face painting meaning. I think that styles of painting are something that child takes from their parents. Look: Sona and her kids. Wounded guy on the riverbank and his daughter.
Good video. Wanting to know who or what inhabits the Southwest part of the map. Where like jungle is. Seems like there are slot of robots but no one around. Seems weird.
I think in the lore in the southwest the Utaru and Tenkenth live. Utaru in the plains of the forbidden west a little and the Tenkenth in the true south to test their mettle against thr machines since they're a rough jungle society. Plus their clothing denotes a sort of Amazonian or jungle tribal affair as opposed to the grass-woven chest pieces of the Utaru, who are agricultural.
Hey do you know that they're using your video on the horizon Wiki? If they are earning any sort of revenue from this page you might want to look into requesting royalties from them or something similar. Of course I'm assuming that they did not ask permission, in this case horizon.fandom.com/wiki/Face_paint
I still want to know why "resh" (don't know how to spell his name. the guy in the nora who insults aloy and is the stand in war chief) has the Seeker face paint.
How do you get these face paints? I have played Horizon Zero Dawn since it came out in February 28, 2017 and I have played through it four times. It is one of the best games I have ever played. I still do not have the face paint. How do I get it? Love this video.
I am all caught up.....finally I have a question for you.....mystic games just predicted that we prob won't see a glimpse of Horizon 2 for another 2 to 3 years at least as they also prob working on another killzone title as well....how you going to keep creating content for that amount of time, if this prediction is true and do you think you will be sticking with horizon or will you do a "Jorraptor" and just move on to something else out of the blue one day. I don't mean this question negative in anyway nor do I want to imply you lack creative talent...I just worry for you as I watched every video now and I worry more and more with each video.
That's a really good question John, my roots will always be with HZD, and am going to ofcourse be covering the sequel in depth when it does come out. The new series Metal World will at the very least encompass 20 episodes (more likely over 30), which will be Horizon focused. So even if Legends and Lore Bites slows down, the channel will still be producing HZD content for the foreseeable future :) Also thinking about covering Ghost of Tsushima when it launches, and possibly Biomutent as well depending on the depth of lore ofcourse.
Anyone know if the face paints are tied to my profile or are they only available in the save file where I unlocked them? I have unlocked all of the paints and want to start a new game (not NG+). I want to play a fresh game from the beginning, but use the appropriate face paints as I play through.
Not sure if there's anything in the lore for this, but I'd be interested to know why Aloy doesn't wear any face paint. It can't be b/c she's an outcast, and it shouldn't be b/c of her lack of family b/c the high matriarchs don't wear paint either.
In horizon zero dawn, where is Russia, because Samina Ebadji didn't say anything about Russian and only say about Chinese and Arabic. What happened to the United Nation Council during Enduring Victory and zero day?
I'm really surprised we don't see combinations of these markings. They are tattoos right? What happens someone falls int two categories, like a brave become ing a sun hawk or a death seeker or both.
They aren’t tattoos. They are face paint similar to what football players use or what the armed services use as camouflage. More than likely the “paint” comes from a combination of dye from plants and animals and oil or grease from downed machines, however this is speculation.
I have no idea how this channel isn’t way bigger than it is. Keep up the great work.
Late reply, but don't worry. With the release of Forbidden West, that'll change. Horizon was a success but a quiet one. As a fan, I have every intention of being loud about HFW.
Everyone in the HZD fandom should watch his videos, because they're so informative.

Man today was a rough day, this made it all worth it though; your channel is so awesome!

Olara and brom share their mothers Mark. The little Hunter that loses her mom's spear has the same Mark as her dad
Then that would mean that Aloy joins Varl and Sona's family, right?
@@-S.L. no,aloy should wear rost paint or no paint at all

i think death seeker is a secret rite and Rost may not really be allowed to wear it on his face. i think its just his mothers name
You really deserve more subscribers
its so hard to think of a question that hasn't in some way already been answered in one of your other videos but im just glad you keep coming up with more
As always, amazing video. How do you capture such good footage? It's awesome b-roll.
Thanks so much! I use photo mode, and lots of pausing the game 😅
Random Side Quest more power to you. Keep up the great work

i wonder if it was drawn inside the cradle and someone learned to draw it once they left and they kept it
7:03 is absolutely gorgeous!
This is such an awesome game. I wish they'd drop another dlc.
I don’t understand how you’re Chanel is not extremely big
How much does anyone want to bet that the Plainwalker face paint is a hint to the sequel...but just speculation?
I really liked this one.

Love all these videos
If Aloy gains Varl and Sona's familial markings, she must join their family?
Does anyone know what armour Aloy is wearing at the 3:33 mark? It looks like Hawk Talahna's armour.
it is talana's armor. carja ____ master, i forget the proper name. you can collect that, Sona's silent hunter master armor and a Banuk warek chieftain master in the frozen wilds. i think Talanas armor is able to be fireproof, Sona's is almost invisible ( i can sneak up on anything in that one, and the banuk is freezeproof

and Vala had hers before the proving to match her mom and older brother

How much does anyone want to bet that the Plainswalker face paint is an easter egg?
I didn’t even know you could unlock all of these
How do you get these face paints?

If my memory serves me you had to complete game + on ultra hard if I'm not wrong ..if I'm mistaken you can always Google it
New game+ on UH, and to select them hit the pause many and go to settings (might be under visual if I'm not mistaken).
I am all caught up.....finally

Death-Seeker or bust
for rost

You know your voice sounds awfully similar to the “ what if theory” narrator
