I've been balls-deep in the lore for this game since the moment the plot first sucked me in, and these videos are really bringing me in even deeper. Amazing work! I can't think of a game in recent memory that feels so alive, fleshes-out its world so fully, and yet leaves you this hungry for more. I just hope the sequel really starts to answer some of these questions instead of beginning a whole new story arc and main character like a lot of other AAA do for each new iteration--the whole "spiritual" sequel vs direct sequel thing.
Aside from allusions to the Greek pantheon, this game subtly uses Egyptian myth..Faro=Pharaoh hence the Faro Plague, Liz Sobeck=Sobek ,god of fertility (motherhood)..and some character named Bast....amazing
Sobek was the god of natural majesty rather than fertility as such. Fertility and healing was part of it (due to his Nile connection), but he was also "he who eats while he also mates" or "he with teeth" for his association with nature's fierceness and military power in general. This coincides pretty well with Elizabet and Aloy's characters and roles: caring protectors and saviours, but also hard, distant and unyielding people in many respects.
@@RandomSideQuest Ted would not have needed to kill the alphas even after purging apollo unless he felt they could have somehow done something about it. That implies there is a way to restore apollo and finish saving the world fully by the end of the final final game.
I've been scouring UA-cam for a Channel that delves into the lore of this game, and I found EXACTLY what I was looking for, finally. Please PLLEEEASE keep doing these for any game you guys think deserve it. Amazing work, guys
Seriously, the sheer scope of the story in this game may be one of the most impressive works of Fiction I have ever seen. This game is just incredible, one of the greatest video game works ever conceived.
Naoto, the Alpha for DEMETER, is mentioned very briefly in the Datapoint "Sobeck Journal, 7-16-65 R". He had a love for poetry (which is probably why the Metal Flowers have poem fragments in their code). And yes, Capt. Okilo is the name as Ayomide Okilo. She was confirmed to be MINERVA's Alpha in the Datapoint "Full Speed Ahead".
Well hot damn there Nova, don't know how I missed this, thanks for the tip! I'll have to contact the folks over at the Wikia to update, or at least include this on the page. Also it seems I have another vid to make lol
Don't worry about it. That's part of the joy of this universe: Guerrilla Games has done a very good job at fostering a positive environment to discuss the universe.
I wish they made a movie about this.. its so rich of information.. and full of content I seek in the scifi-apocalypse genre movies.... I hope and still hoping up until today..
I agree.....but no movie, this needs a multi-season streaming series. 2-3 hours is nowhere near enough time to drop all the jaw droppers int his game’s story. 3 seasons of 10 hour-long episodes should be enough. Get a good Alloy/Elisabet and the show will work for sure.
Exactly. Like I understand he funded all this shit but at the same time who's the genius that allowed Ted to have so much access and control over everything? In the end they should've have kept Faro more in Check. Im surprised nobody tried to to just kill him well before zero dawn was complete.
@@MistahJay7 I mean at that point I think nobody thought that they greatest enemy would be another human being with SO much at stake.. maybe it’s just me.
@@MistahJay7 To add on, Ted Faro was a massive idiot for his decisions, but the guy was also technically smart. Correct me if I'm misremembering, but he personally had a hand in designing and creating his robots - that would make him smart enough to possibly hack or have a team that could create a backdoor into Project Zero Dawn's security protocols, and GAIA Prime.
I wish I had found this channel years ago. Makes me want to play horizon again for probably the 16th or 17th time. No joke. I can’t wait for forbidden west.
Hmm, how about a video on Far Zenith and its' tech? They seem to have had quite a few good toys. I don't recall seeing all that much about them, beyond the fact that they existed, the birthing chambers, the fact that they acquired the Odyssey project, etc... but a compilation of all that we know about them might be cool.
+cheeseguy3412 I'll defiantly take a dive into that lore, see if I can find anything else. If there's enough meat on the bone, I think that's a great idea for a vid :)
In the end, FAS was overwhelmed by mobs, forcing them to use the same tech to hold them back while they scramble to provide logistics and support for P:ZD.
when you think about Apollo... the one thing that would have prevented, or acted as a plan B, would've been to have physical books, and a basic reading teaching program installed within the robots that cared for the clones.
i love all of the alphas and how fleshed out but still enigmatic the known ones are .. even demeter’s alpha who we know very little about with the poetry ;o; this also might be weird but i really love that elisabet as such a prominent figure was in her early 40s when this happened as opposed to young like Aloy? of course partially because it masks the clone plot point but because its quite rare to see such well developed older women in media like this ... AND that they chose to write in them needing extra help (like the artificial wombs) rather than being a total wonder team was a very nice writing touch
It's fun to think I was 17 years old when Elizabeth was born in this alternate world. And that, if I live until then, will be 87 years old when the world goes apeshit and is destroyed.
Everybody loves Elizabet so no one wants to bring it up, but if there were a person with the expertise and the motive to "glitch" Faro's machines it was probably her. Not to mention that Zero Dawn is an awfuly huge project to conceive, design, and execute in just fifteen months... Just sayin.
Me too ,the lore is perfectly explained I found. Ted faro is my favourite so far. I’m a big fan of video game lore and the lengths developers go too to make there games feel real. Guerilla did an immense job on horizon and I’m desperate for another game. Thanks for the videos 👍🏻
Like your lore. Keep up the awesome work in what ever game of choice. But be sure to re-visit Zero Dawn often when more meat appears on the lore bone of speculation! Your lore vids make me want to play through Zero Dawn again!! New sub here :)
Not sure, I reckon we’ll probably find out if, when, we visit his bunker, Thebes, and I’m guessing that’ll be in a third game, possibly as part of an overarching goal to reinstate/reconstruct GAIA. All guesswork obviously.
You know I don’t like having this thought at all, but what if Elizabet Sobeck was the cause of the glitch. in an attempt to be able to rewrite humanity and life on planet earth in her vision. a Chilling thought given her backstory as a savior of humanity but would prove to be a great twist nonetheless.

Couldn’t agree more 👌
Hell ya I'm trying to get all datapoints
Totally agree. I’ve become obsessed with this world.

I never realized the Sobek reference. Oh man that is cool
Yes this game is full of occult knowledge. It’s amazing really and it definitely makes it a rich and complete experience unlike any other.

We know of two other Alphas: Naoto and Ayomide Okilo, the Alphas for DEMETER and MINERVA, respectively.
Where are they mentioned in the lore? Is that the same as Capt. Okilo??

A movie wouldn't be able to go in depth enough to properly delve into the story of horizon zero Dawn. It would definitely need a multi season show

I still cant understand how Ted Faro had the power to kill them from his bunker...

Late to respond so my apologies but I'm curious to more reasoning behind this. Would make for a hell of a twisted plot twist
That would be the sickest plot twist in Forbidden west
Being born in 2020 has new meaning for Sobeck
These are fantastic horizon lore videos. Just found your channel. Subscribed!
