  • I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new BZ4X from Toyota days after its launch here in Australia so what better way to review the car than to take it on some winding back roads.

Looks like I'll be spending more time with the BZ4X. Anything you would like to see?

@@WideAwakeGamerYT Hm, mine works fine without any connection issues and I have an older-ish Android phone (a Google Pixel 6 Pro, if ~2.5 years can be considered 'older-ish'). The Bluetooth scan immediately saw the bZ4X when in pairing mode and connected without any hiccups.

Well-timed video. My RAV4 Prime lease is ending this fall so on a whim I drove a BZ4X Limited AWD today and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. My first choice for an EV would be a Hyundai Ioniq 5, but the offer I got for the BZ4X was way to good to pass up. It definitely has some compromises and isn't for everyone, but for my use case it's ideal and (subjectively, of course) I LOVE the look. Very next-gen RAV4 vibe.

Congrats on the new BZ4X. What colour did you opt for?

    • @waltwright84

@@Civic_Auto Thanks! I'm getting a white one, because there's a whole 'beggars can't be choosers' thing going on. Here in the middle of the USA EVs remain uncommon. Personally I kinda love the black trim with the white, but again I know some people prefer a solid wall of color. I find that dull, but to each their own 😛. I realize you're a new channel, but I like your videos! Keep up the good work.

Well-timed video for me as well. Just watched it. Like you I have a RAV4 Prime, or Plugin as we call it in Norway. My lease ends in September and I just had a talk with the salesman at Toyota and I made a reservation for a Dark Blue Executive and he expect I will have it within the end of April, perfect just as spring here is kicking off🤩 I drove a BZ4X in December and tested it up some steep and windy roads here on the west coast of Norway, and the thing was jaw-dropping on snow!! The grip and stability was just a-m-a-z-i-n-g, and I could not believe it was possible!! I hope you are happy with your new BZ 😉

@@jeagleAL I'm glad to hear the wintery performance is good. I live in Iowa in the USA and some winters here can be pretty harsh, and I'm prepared to take the range hit from the cold, but I was hoping it's as good in snow as my RAV4 Prime was.

Exactly what is "Done Right" in the bz4x? The bz4x is inferior to a Model Y in pretty much all relevant aspects... Charging speeds with the bz4x is catastrophic and consumption is rather high. It even limits number of "fast chargings", which aren't even that fast to begin with.

    • @RyansTechReviews29
      @RyansTechReviews29 Місяць тому +2

Don’t even compare this to a model y… model y is like 5 years ahead in tech, range, and performance even though it first came out in 2020

I drove a BZ4X in December and tested it up some steep and windy roads here on the west coast of Norway, and the thing was jaw-dropping on snow!! The grip and stability was just a-m-a-z-i-n-g, and I could not believe it was possible!! Otherwise, you heard what he said about comfort etc. Charging speed has been improved with an update, the consumption is not high but rather normal, the number of fast charging is increased from 2 pr. 24hours till 3.8 which should do. The model Y is the most sold in Norway last year, the BZ4X is on the 4´th place. One thing done right in my opinion (Without having driven a Tesla so far) is that I prefer the combo screens and buttons, and a real turn signal. But the major reason I don't want a Tesla (though I do like technical stuff) is that Tesla is terrible at customer services at least in Norway. Horror stories has been told about terrible paint work, lack of spare parts make you wait for your Tesla for months and months and they often claim the error is due to customer error.
Toyota is service minded, and I get to borrow a car from them as long as I need, without charge. I just cover the fuel. There you go...

@@jeagleAL Never had anything but good customer service at the four different Tesla Service Centers in Norway we've visited over the years. I've heard some of the stories too, but never experienced anything like them.
Back when our Tesla was still under warranty the longest visit it had to a Tesla Service Center was about 14 days waiting for a brand new HV battery getting shipped and installed. It was a free upgrade too, from an 85 kwh battery to a 90, as they were out of the 85's. They even called and asked if it was alright by us if they gave us a 90 instead.
We didn't even notice there was anything wrong with the battery, but the car told us it needed to visit the service center, and when we delivered our car we received a Avis rental Tesla almost identical to our car, just newer, at no cost to us. We drove that rental from the south of Norway to the north and back as this was during our summer vacation and we had a road trip scheduled. It cost us nothing, as our car had unlimited free charging, so did our rental.
The horror stories are ofcourse the stories that are told the loudest, but in our experience Tesla's service is excellent. If you need a smaller job done on your car they'll even come to your house or your place of work to fix it.
Tesla came to our drive way to switch the 12V-battery out for a new one when the car had warned us it needed a new 12V-battery (this was the original 12V-battery at 8 years of age).
We will most likely end up buying another Tesla when the need for a new car arises.
And yes, most EVs are superior to similar ICE vehicles on slippery surfaces, as incremental adjustments to traction can be made almost instantaneously with an electric motor.

For $33K, it's not a bad car at all.
Not the best car for road trips though.

It isn't a splendid car, it charges slowly, max 4 times a day, not very good milage pr charging compare to others. Seats are not very comfy, interior is plastic fantastic and it doesn't look good. But it got Subarus 4*4 system, who's good if you need it. And probably it is Toyota quality, so it will last for a long time.
And I think it is built on the Rav 4 model, so it isn't a EV built from scratch.

    Not the first Toyota BEV!
Tesla made them a RAV4 electric power train in 2012!
This attempt came via BYD engineering.
Toyota are clueless on electric vehicles. Can't even make a saleable compliance car!
Their engineers who tore apart a Model Y described it as 'a work of art'.
"It’s unbelievable. We need a new platform designed as a blank sheet. (BZ4X is a 2016 Prius chassis!) It’s a whole different manufacturing philosophy.”
"To deliver attractive BEVs to more customers, we must streamline the structure of the car- with a BEV first mindset - we must drastically change the way we do business, from manufacturing to sales and service.”
Toyota’s incoming CEO Koji Sato - Automotive News 28 Feb 2023
It's too late for Toyota. Out of Europe in 2025 as hybrids can't meet the CO2 regulations. China sales are abysmal.
Mired reputation with customers because of lying to the EPA for 30 years on emissions. Huge fines for misleading Daihatsu safety and again emissions with Hino. Third biggest contributor to pollution from Influence Map...

Every EV on the market reflects the amount of money its maker spent on R&D.
Toyota was a late arrival onto the EV market.
Volvo, Polestar, Škoda, Lexus, Opel, Tesla, Hyundai, and Kia all make better EVs.
      Toyota makes better Hybrids.
The battery tech in the Toyota also lags behind the field.
Let's see what they can do in the next 3 years.
