A year ago I bought a bZ4X XLE AWD with the winter package and level 2 charging cable. It was $43k, not $53k. The limited edition has the 360 view and the funky rabbit ear spoilers which were not worth the extra money in my estimation.
I'm pretty sure I'm getting better mileage and efficiency than in the video but I drive in eco mode all the time.
Interesting it's compared to the Bolt in the video. I'm not sure they are in the same category in regard to build quality, reliability as well as passenger, cargo space and comfort.
Yes, it definitely is a commuter car and not a cross county vehicle even though I've watched videos of drivers who did use it for that. I chose the bZ4X because I wanted all the pluses of driving an EV without having to operate it with an instruction manual in my lap or driving it from a computer screen. (yes, I'm old) There is also the value variable to be considered and value can be subjective at times. The Bolt is a cheaper ev with slightly more range but it's also a thousand pounds lighter, smaller and not as comfortable. Range was not an issue for me. At the price I was willing to pay the Toyota easily won. If my budget were ten grand more I might have considered something else.

Great review video! You've got a new sub! I have the '24 XLE. It's my first EV and I love it! I haven't bought gas since April. I did the lease special which made the payment $300 a month with no money down. They have a similar lease deal now like other EV manufacturers. I have a few videos of my experience on my channel, and I hope to make great videos like yours one day!

5:49 "If you get the $7500 thing..."
Yeah that's kinda the problem, the bZ4X and Solterra don't qualify for the $7500 Federal Incentive. It might also (at least in AWD form) be the slowest charging EV on the market, other than *maybe* the small-battery Nissan Leaf, which has an air cooled battery and uses Chademo. The HVAC is also weirdly inefficient for some reason.
I think Toyota still does the rolling 24 hour window of 2 DCFC sessions before DC charging is disabled? Ignoring the slow charging speeds, it pretty much eliminates this and the Solterra for road trips.

I think you are reviewing last year's model. I have the awd XLE model and get about 200 in Seattle at 80% charge. The vehicle has averaged 4 miles/kwh on on a 72.8 kwh battery. Not sure if it's a heat thing in Texas, but a full charge here would easily get over 250. Also, my 2024 doesn't have colors on the temp display.

Well. Québec being bizarre-o-land again; these are all over the place, especially in Eastern Québec where ground clearance and AWD are going to be what matters. Granted, the piled up discounts, the low interest rates and the subsidies help.
But when you chop down all the discounts, this is priced close to a base AWD Prius.
And no matter what figure you look at, this is way more car than a Prius.

The weird thing is people are buying them. I'm sure Toyota is horrified sales are going up. They tried like hell to make this thing unattractive, uncompetitive on specs and price, and even told people the wheels would fall off and yes, gave it a crap name, and people are still buying them! They sold almost 10,000 of them in the US last year and might sell twice that in 2024! This is a disaster for Toyota because every sale takes one sale from their high margin tailpipe cars and proves their "customers don't want EVs" talking point wrong.

I have a lot of confidence in Toyota’s capabilities so I can only conclude that they made this intentionally bad so that they wouldn’t have to make of sell many of them. They made the decision to put a smaller battery in this so the range is low and the AWD has two small motors giving it the same horsepower as the FWD. Nobody else does that. On a more subjective level, my opinion is that they made this ugly inside and out. It has wheel well cladding that makes it look like it got in an accident and was repaired with the wrong parts. The inside has that terrible instrument cluster and yes if you want to sabotage your car, give is buttons for the volume rather than a knob. Then make it charge slowly and limit the number of times you can charge it in a day. See? EVs suck so you should keep buying hybrids and ICE vehicles.
