I am a Maytag foamer for life, but if there were any other washer I would advocate for in the galaxy, this is it. This year, this model. I been starstruck by this washer since it came out! Cleans great, plenty of cycle options and super easy to work on! Thanks for sharing btw!
I have a similar year Kenmore 70 series. It does a fantastic job and will spend the money to repair it if anything happens. I got it used 10 years ago and have replaced the agitator dogs and the motor capacitor. A lot of people get rid of these and other Whirlpool made brands because of the agitator dogs which an appliance repair company charges about $ 200 to fix. Its a very simple repair and new ones cost about $30. I refuse to have one of the new HE garbage washers. I like my clothes to ACTUALLY GET CLEAN !!!
Nice! Now you just need to get the matching sabric fostener spencers for the one on the right, replace the right one's neutral drain, and you'll be all set! So my summary of all of this; firstly, next time maybe try to start them both at exactly the same time, if you can help it, so that way there will be a much tighter time gap between the cycle changes, especially so they'll both finish the cycle at the same time. I know you don't have the Jay's Laundromat windup timer setup to do that easily with one hand, but you can just close the lid on the right one momentarily and pull both timer knobs out on both machines simultaneously. Just a suggestion. That one on the right is almost EXACTLY identical to the left one. Everything is _precisely_ the same between the two, other than I think the right one is only two speed, whereas the left one is three. Same water level selections, same temperature selections, same rinse options, same cycles, just the speed selectors are different. And I don't remember if the left one had the black underside on the lid like the right one, I'll have to look back on older videos of that one. Same model years looks like, and of course same agitators too, with the checkerboard pattern baskets for what it's worth. And yeah, like Jay said, that right one really needs a new neutral drain rebuild kit. That can be gotten easily for cheap. And yeah, there's also a point where the brakes on that one seem to stick quite a bit--right after the first spin-drain syndrome (SPIN-drome?). Ours has done that before after the first spin when it's cold and we only have a very small load of whites or something like that, but after the rinse it's fine. Probably not a big deal, but could become a problem down the road, so best to just be aware of stuff like that. All in all, you made an excellent choice, two machines now means half the mileage on the other one, as well as half the time to do two loads of laundry, and you have the two dryers as well so that also helps tremendously. #Joe'sLaundromat
I grew up with these machines and didn't even realize it. I love them to death! I had one years ago but I made the mistake of scrapping instead of fixing it. Totally regretted that! A friend of my dad fortunately gave us a 1996 Maytag Perfoma. It lasted a while until the spin bearing went out which caused it to leak. On top of that one of the spin cycles went out due to the bearing. I tried finding the part but no dice. Since the Maytag factory closed it made it that much harder to find the part. I almost made the grave mistake of buying one of those "HE" washers. I was caught by the glitz and glamour of the "energy efficiency." After doing my research and watching other UA-camrs upload videos of these old school washers, I quickly woke up! I found an exact Kenmore washer just like the one on the right. So happy! I'm never parting with it! You totally answered my question about that! Thank you! Now I know what to do before it gets bad. My question is why do the cold temperatures in the basement cause it to do a spin drain vs the normal neutral drain? When should I alternate changing the spin speeds? I'm a certified washing machine fanatic now!
I owned the machine on the right for many years with never a mishap. That machine could successfully take on any laundry problem. I didn't know at the time what a quality machine it was because all washers were well-built and high performers at that time, compared with today.
These were among the best washers alongside the pre-1986 Lady Kenmore/Whirlpool belt drives, the vintage Maytag top loaders, and the vintage Frigidaire washers (particularly the Unimatics and 1-18s). Sadly those days are long gone but at least these videos can still be seen on UA-cam and you can still find them in used markets even though they are hard to find these days.
Wow, you did split-screen in real life. Your setup is conducive to this. I, on the other hand, wanted a sink in my basement, and I got one! The left machine is doing what is always has. Seems to neutral drain like it's supposed to, most times after a full load is run. Just the brakes are done. Right machine, won't neutral drain, so that's gotta be fixed. Brakes are all right on that one. The bangs and clunks it makes are normal. The only thing I didn't like was when it stopped after spin-draining the first time. That was very abrupt. But it didn't happen again after. Weird.
Believe it or not, there were uncommon occasions where the 1990 Whirlpool had that abrupt stop too. No idea why that was, but it just kept going of course.
My grandma had the ones with the fabric softener dispenser. The transmission failed on it tho so it got got replaced with a new Whirlpool. And it lasted 21 years. The only repairs that were done before complete failure were the motor coupler and the agitator dogs. The motor was still good on it but the transmission was bad and transmissions are expensive.
Out of curiosity why does the one have a bigger agitator then the other? And I used to have one of these when I was 3 well my mom and dad did. Then we had a whirl pool, it went out. We currently have the Kenmore 100 series. I do not know how to bypass the lid lock to see what it’s doing. I would like to make a video like this myself.
They're the same agitators, the left one just has a removable fabric softener dispenser whereas the right one does not. He just needs to get one for the right machine, and they'll both match exactly. They're a very common part and can be found anywhere for cheap.
lizboz oh cool, I would say that we are going to keep this washer but I would be lying. I think we’re going to get a new one soon. We don’t know though. I remember having one exactly like this one on the right as a little girl. Well I know they’re both the same but without the fabric softener dispenser. And then when we moved we didn’t take it with us.
If you do replace yours, DON'T get another new one. They don't make them half as effective or reliable as they used to. You'll only regret it later. Go to a used market and find either a nice older direct drive like what's in the video, they're not hard to find at all, and you'll know when you find one if you open the lid and there's no lid lock, and the tub has a stiff suspension and drum brake. Or any other brands of older variations, particularly the Maytags, but DON'T get the Neptune ones, those are terrible. Any machine with a full-fledged agitator in the middle, no lid lock, stiff tub suspension & drum brake, and an all mechanical control panel is going to be a good one. Actually, Speed Queen sells one now too, but only in the commercial model TC-5000WN, the rest are garbage.
I always like to sit back and watch wash video! I love these washers and I wish I can have a Kenmore 80 series rather than a s**ty washer you buy today at Home Depot. The next wash video can you include the dryers as well?
@@xjoe81x The 90 series is basically the same as the 80 series. I’ve watched videos of the Kenmore 90 series in action and they basically operate the same surprisingly. There might be differences between the 90 and 80 series but at the moment idk.
The one in the right failed to neutral drain, even on heavy duty. That transmission must really be shot. Mine would fail to neutral drain on slow speed agitation if it was the first cycle of the day. But it always neutral drained on heavy duty.
You need to fix the transmissions especially the one on the right and you need break shoes on both of them especially the one on the left and the left washer needs a new top panel

I would like to have another washing machine in my basement along with my 1992 Whirlpool Direct Drive Washing Machine. I'm thinking a Early to Mid 1980s Whirlpool Belt Drive model or a Mid to Late 1990s Whirlpool Ultimate Care Direct Drive model.
The second kenmore washer isn't supposed to be drain and spin at the same time. It was probably super wash cycle or not. But why is it supposed to do that?
The second is the better machine. The spinning while draining also remove the soap & dirt film from the top to bottom (self cleaning). The one on the left would leave a dirty ring in the tub . That same scum would rest on the clothes that's on the top as the water drained. This wasn't a problem with the one on the right..... a major plus. Also, by spining while draining , more water extraction and balancing is achieved. I had both machines in my time. The one on the right outperformed the left and would be my choice.
Mine is an 80 series, but the knobs are different on mine? I don't have the second spin option which I could kick myself for not getting since I use it all the time.
