I just hike failed Alice the other day. Man thats a tough hike! Im glad I turned back because a few days later was up at Thunder Lake and could see that the Boulder Grand Pass was still packed with snow. I would have been hosed if I got up there and tried to go down that way. Probably would have had to bail out to west and call for a ride from Grand Lake.
Nick, thanks so much for this info. We’ll overnight it at Thunder Aug 2 and the Alice on the 3rd. Our plans were to descend by Boulder Grand pass. We also planned to do Tanima while up there. Sounds like maybe a recon this week would be a good idea. Will be at Hutchinson lakes later this week.
I’m not quite that intelligent Barb. After I wrote it I realized, for me, it was surprisingly cool and fit Your style. You are a Legend too. Barb, You rock!
I did a nice fall drive today checking out Beaver Res, rainbow lake trail head, Mud Lake, Caribou Ranch trail head. Although it was just a leaf peeping drive, I knew I could come home and have you fill in the gaps while I sip a few bourbons! I adore the Indian Peaks area and can no longer hike like you hike, but I SO appreciate you documenting not just the Indian Peaks but all over this fabulous area we live in. Thanks, Nick, Mom and others for taking me/us along.
Hi Nick.. we are way behind in commenting on your hikes but have truly enjoyed them. When we watched this one the other night, T mentioned that the last part going up to Sawtooth Mountain looks like the Hillary Steps on Mt. Everest!!! We don't think this one is going to be on our bucket list of hikes but we keep being impressed with the whole Indian Peaks area. I can see us going up Buchanan Pass and turning right to the other peak (that didn't seem as rocky and steep!!). As always we are SO grateful for you filming and posting the videos of your hike. We hope your knee didn't get too aggrevated to keep you from hiking!. Awesome job--as always. Your #1 TN Fans: T & S
Nick...this was not just beautiful ...but I screenshot some energy and have put it into tonemapping so you can see the life energy forms that blurred your screencasting at 6.31 munutes and to about 6.39 in your video. Nature and the different energies that comprise our worlds loves you Nick
Hi Heather! Nice to hear from you. It was really amazing up there! Even when my body is dead tired the beauty around me seems to keep me going. I look forward to seeing the images you got! I have never heard of tonemapping.. I hate youtube so much. Sadly, Im not surprised you were banned. Speaking the truth or even stating an opinion is no longer tolerated. I feel like a sellout for posting vids on this turd of a platform.
@@nicksangetta8874 Your amazing Nick and smart to not do what I am doing here. You snuck info in at times that lets us know anyway. Most important is that you are such a great vido filmer and traveler in nature to walk with in these times of crazy. The animals and nature loves you my friend because you are a pure spirit and just beautiful all around. Travell well my friend. We are with you always.
Nick, It’s been years but there is a lake not to far from there called Gourd Lake. On the Grand County side. Just on the other side of the St. Vrain glaciers. You ever been there? Below Cooper peak.
@@mikehuber2480 No, Ive never been there. But I have seen where it is on the map. Its a super long drive to get over to that west side, so I've only been over there a few times. I did talk to some people on the summit who had camped there.
I loved your Sawtooth Mountain hiking adventure! Thanks for sharing ! Great music and narration. Also, it's cool when you name all the surrounding mountains! Keep on hiking, Nick! 👍
The knee is good now. Took a few weeks to get it back. I was literally gimp-hoping the last few miles on this one.. and yeah, the rehab sucks. But its good to work on it now. Break the scar tissue up. The hard work now will pay off in the long run. I hope it keeps getting stronger for you!
Beautiful! Your mention of short term goals and setting up intermediate points to make it up to, and the 3 minute breaks reminded me of when I did Grays Peak in the late 90's!! Just love your videos!!!!
Did this exact hike today. I was able to avoid most of the willows by following Buchanan Pass trail till above 10420ft then split off at an forest opening. Fun ridge scramble. Saw very few people beyond Coney Flat
I got kinda messed up on this hike and had to fix with some editing. Lol. Originally I was going for Coney Island.. but it was surrounded by hundreds of yards of bushes. I could not find a way through.. so I backtracked and went for Sawtooth instead. But congrats on the summit! Awesome!
Nick ... Another great video ... Years ago I had an interest in doing the east ridge also but never got around to it ... Today via your video I got to do it ... Thanks!
Another awesome video bro and Barb!! We're glad you made it up with that knee. My bro said if you had to use your safety GPS it'd be called Save Our Sangetta!!
Really enjoyed this one, brother. I was rooting you on! Spectacular footage from up there. Great job on a successful summit! Now, let that knee rest a bit.
Another awesome video nick! This has been on my list for a while. I was going to get it during a backpacking trip earlier this year (an illness forced us back. I’m going to try for it next Sunday.
Sorry to hear about the illness. I hope everything is ok. Good thing about these mountains is they dont go anywhere. They will be there waiting for the next time. Good luck on Sunday! Sawtooth is a long one but worth it. Sunday is my next day off and hoping for some good hiking weather.
@@kenneththomson9492 Im not sure. I kinda messed it up going through the bushes. Originally I was trying to get over to Coney Island.. but the bushes were never ending, so I audibled and did Sawtooth instead. I think if you went straight for the east ridge you could do it a lot easier. Honestly I think going up the ridge seems much more exciting than grinding it up to Buchanon Pass.
Hike failed today 👎🏻. The ridge had quite a bit of snow and ice and the steep talus slope of sawtooth was completely socked in with thick clouds. I made it to the last high point before the talus slope and decided to turn around. I spent quite a bit of energy navigating snow and ice on the ridge, the snow was getting deeper and I didn’t think I’d make it up the steep talus slope and the fact that I couldn’t see the conditions on the slope made my mind up.
another spectacular hike, thanks Nick! Also, GREAT idea: 3-minute breaks on long hikes! And I appreciate how you identify the peaks and lakes that you see. Thanks for hiking through the pain to give us this experience.
That was a fantastic hike Nick. We’ll need to look for a route up the east ridge w/o the krumholts . BTW, ready for Mt Alice next week.
Thank you! I think I may have messed up the part where I cutoff and got stuck in the bushes for a few minutes. There is probably an easier way.

You should go for Elk Tooth if you're going out to Huchinson Lake
Wow! Great hike, great narration. Love your bits of humor…..glad you got that gene from me! HAR!!! Thank you for sharing your hikes with all of us!

I just now realized my pun in the response... You (rock)!
Thank you, John. And yes, the day after one of those hikes, I pretty much need a whole generator to perk myself up!
