I first discovered Doraemon in early 2007 after watching several 3D Movie Maker videos and seeing these characters that looked like Stimpy (I was a Ren And Stimpy fan back then) and Arthur Reed and discovering the 2007 Movie, Nobita’s New Great Adventure Into The Underworld (it’s now one of my favorite films based on a cartoon series). The Bang Zoom/Viz dub made me a fan of it.
I was introduced to it when I was 5 and a half years old in Spring 2014. I found Doraemon on UA-cam one day, and I, being interested, found the Indian dub, and it was the first one I watched. Then I found Spanish and the original Japanese version. In July 2015, I was in luck. Disney XD began airing the US dub of Doraemon. I told everyone in my house. I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE DORAEMON ON A CHANNEL I WATCHED! I was a 6 and a half year old. I pronounce Doraemon as "dor-ai-mon". Like in the US dub!
I remember going to Uniqlo (a clothes store) and they had Doraemon tees. I didn’t know the character, but now he’s my favorite. I’m more familiar with the episodes including English subtitles. Either way, Doraemon is cute and I also love dorayaki.
Stand By Me Doraemon and its sequel are underrated gems outside of its native Japan. Western audiences should see these films if they’re interested in checking out Doraemon.

Power rangers since MMPR got dubbed to Japan too regularly In case of MMPR they change the credit from Barbara Goodson to Machiko Soga (because it's really her) when Rita Repulsa is credited In the Japanese dub of mystic force Haruka Tomatsu debuted by dubbing one of the rangers instead of her debuting as Candelira in one of the sentai.
Funny thing about Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Nobita. He would use that voice when he voiced Keita/Nate in Yo-Kai Watch, another anime about a boy with a cat companion going on wacky adventures (it's actually really good, I highly recommend it).
Interesting side note, most of the edits done for the US Dub was actually done by the same company in South Korea who made the Korean edits of Doraemon
I actually wanted to add a dub. On February 4, 2020, Disney Channel India started airing an English dub of the 2005 series. It started with the episode, "Welcome to the Haunted Inn", and aired for a brief period of time before stopping shortly after for unknown reasons. Around the same time, title cards had started to be translated into English. The aforementioned episode is currently the only one online. It is unknown which studio did this dub.

Noby - A female voice actor doing Noby voice sounded a bit too girly-ish to me Sue - She sound alright despite her being sounded a bit too-much like Minnie Mouse Sneech - He sound good in this dub to me Big G - Sounded less like a male voice Doraemon - He sound decent for trying to repliacate the Bang Zoom Dub of Doraemon.
Edit: This aged well I still believe that the Bang Zoom dub will have a DVD or Blu-Ray release eventually, but not anytime soon. Like you know those Blu-Rays of nostalgic anime dubs from the 90s and early 2000s? I think it'll get that treatment when the dub becomes nostalgic. I believe Stand By Me has a higher chance of getting a home media release eventually though, probably on Netflix with no fanfare, but again, probably not anytime soon. But I have faith it will happen eventually. As for a third season or another movie dub? I don't think we'll see a third season of Gadget Cat From The Future, but I don't think it's *impossible* for the show to get another English dub. Probably from a completely different company with completely different standards, like LUK. And as for another movie, I don't think its impossible as well, but I don't think Bang Zoom will touch this series ever again. It's a damn shame too, I'm the US dub's biggest defender XD

With all the anime licenses Disney has been getting for Disney+, I'm surprised why they never thought of giving Doraemon another try, it would surely have a better chance at being popular on a streaming platform than a channel.
a month ago, I contacted TV Asahi in Japan and got someone who spoke English to talk to me and got to send a request to bring Doraemon back to the USA and I told Bang Zoom about it and said they will announce whenever they have news from TV Asahi about a new Dub, but there's nothing yet as of now and Bang Zoom says if TV Asahi in Japan gets a lot of requests of USA Doraemon they might consider bringing it back, But we'll never know.

Mona Marshall was the perfect voice for Doraemon! The dub of the show deserved so much better and a Season 3, I thought it was great and Stand By Me Doraemon is my favorite Doraemon movie!

Just finished watching both parts of this series, fantastic work! It's clear that a LOT of research went into it. I really do think this franchise deserves more discussion over here in the West given it's legacy in other parts of the world, not to mention just how deep and intricate it's history is.

Very interesting and good videos on Chibi Maruko-chan and Doraemon, I really enjoyed them, good work. Also and more as a curiosities, the "new" logo of the English dub actually comes from a looot of time before, I'm not sure of who really did it but most likely Shogakukan or TV Asahi, but I know that it has been used since around 2002 or 2003 in Latin America (with the yes open although), but it probably has been used in other places as well from around or after so as well; also the "ending" of the 2005 series UK is left in instrumental because that's the first Opening of the 2005 series on Japan that used in fact that instrumental version of it.

Edits in the LUK dub were limited, even including "Hell" and "God" on children's television. But in the episode "Noby, Little G's Boyfriend" Noby practices dating with Big G, with Sneech spying on them and questioning their actions. This scene was heavily censored. In the episode "The Change of Clothes Camera", a shot showing the girls backing away in fear from a naked Big G was cut for unknown reasons. Also, Fujiko Pro enforces the name changes on every new English Doraemon material, which is why this dub wasn't exempt from the name change. The only exception to this seems to be official movie subtitles. Oh, and the dub of Movie 19. I also wonder why the US dub was chosen to air in Australia.
Australia didn't air the UK dub because it was commissioned by LUK, the licensor in Spain. Ahaha, yeah, I'd figure there were more extreme changes like the ones you mentioned. "Hell" and "God" seem to be more acceptable on UK TV (I discuss this with my upcoming Shin-chan video). Fujipro has a role in every dub, it isn't surprising they'd have a master list certain dubs abide by. Toei has something like it for One Piece's English releases.
I just found out about your channel and wanted to say that I really love your overview on the history of these dubs! As well as the lost media thats bound to come with it. I was introduced through the Disney XD dub so I'll always have a bias for the cast (especially Marshall's Doraemon), but I never knew there were previous attempts to bring Doraemom to the west until now! Again I really appreciate the work you do for these and look forward to whats to come!
I didn't have a problem with BangZoom's dub's cast, nor the changed names. What I DID have a problem with was the 4Kids mentality of Americanizing everything. Kids today have the internet, they shouldn't have to have something as simple as chopsticks dumbed down for them!
You can blame TV Asahi for that, they changed the names to what they thought would appeal to the Western market and would be easy for younger viewers to pronounce, and tried to make the series look like it takes place in the US.

Unfortunately, Viz owns the rights to the series in the US, so the odds of them releasing it on DVD are very slim. A similar situation happened to Captain Tsubasa. Viz bought the rights to the 2018 adaptation and aired it on Fubo TV, and then did nothing with it for about 4 years, before just recently putting it on Amazon Prime. The same will probably happen to Doraemon, if it does get rereleased, it will probably be on streaming platforms and not on physical media.

One curiosity is have a Brazilian dub of Doraemon 2005 It is based in the english dub of Disney XD (i guess) even the names are the same like Nobita is Nobi And Shizuka is Sue the dub is made by a unknown Brazilian dub studio named Zastras And distributed by Sato Company one time is supose the anime pass with this dub in Discovery Kid butt this don't hapenned butt he pass in Band And for a time he are available in the Brazilian Netflix
The Brazilian dub is based on the original version as Sato Company got the rights for Brazil from Rose in theory, and they already did it from the original so of course it makes sense that Sato decided to do so too; although Sato decided to localize the title cards in a weird way by putting the name of the episode in them in Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
I also wanted to mention that I believe Ben Margalith voices a couple characters in LUK Internacional's dub of Shin-chan, also done by Red Angel Media, including Masao, a future version of Kazama, and a few extras.

Btw, while the English dub of Stand By Me Doraemon was never released in the US, it was released on iTunes Japan, Amazon Prime Video Japan, theaters in the Arab world (with a completely new trailer), and on Netflix in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and the Maldives.
Ah Doraemon always will have a special place in my heart thank you Disney XD for introducing me to my first anime I ever loved and introducing me Fuji f Fujiko all the amazing Japanese voice actors and artists who created this beautiful show Shin chan Lupin the 3rd and Doraemon will always be my 3 favourite anime in any shape or form but mostly Japanese because yes it keeps the most consistent voice actors. I remember watching parts of the South Seas dub in the Philippines. I definitely recognize some of the voices from the English dubs of other animes based on the Doraemon manga authors other works aired here like Ninja Hatori & Chimpui. I really hope to find the film dubbed as I missed the ending as I watched it in my youth, but I weirdly can’t find a place to watch it at the moment.
Personally, I blame Disney for screwing over Doraemon in the west. Its unfortunate that it got shoved in the background with bad time slots, and a huge lack of marketing. Viz Media (the parent company of Bang Zoom Studios) did a good job with the dub, however their decision to be distributed to Disney was a poor one, and effectively killed any chance of it becoming popular here in America. Why Viz never shown this to other channels that would have been more promising I’ll never understand. I mean, one channel stands out right away, and would have been the perfect choice! Umm... ever considered that one channel with the orange blob referred to as “The first kids network?” And also how it needed MORE variety than just a certain yellow sponge clogging up it’s airwaves? Hello McFly... anyone home? Huh? Think Viz Media... next time you’re granted this license for a second chance... think.
I think the reason why Disney XD was chosen was most likely because Yokai Watch (which Bang Zoom dubbed as well) was already on there, so they most likely thought it would be a good choice, despite it truly not being a good one.
Doraemon in the west isn't dead yet. Stand By Me Doraemon 2 is coming out dubbed Christmas Eve on Netflix. Hopefully, Netflix gets a clue and decides to make Doraemon gain a resurgence.
While I appreciate the ENG dub getting a release, it just feels to me they didn't put much effort into this. And I feel they could have done this dub in the 90s with the Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball series since those gadgets fit those timelines, imo.
It still feels weird whenever I hear someone use the Japanese names as opposed to the dub names. "You expect me to believe there are people in Japan naming their kid 'Suneo'?" I say, as if Sneech is more realistic
In my opinion Noby being overreliant to Doraemon is what makes him kinda unlikeable especially how in many other shows, western or otherwise, the protagonist took the initiative themselves or them being helping somebody else in need. Perhaps an editing to the western version of Doraemon to make Nobita appear to be less reliant to Doraemon and Doraemon instead acting good by himself would make it fare better. But then again there's a lot of recent Doraemon episodes where Nobita is less reliant toward Doraemon and the bullies are not bully but instead they work together
@@watchforever1724 though in many many other shows especially kids oriented from looney tunes to tom and jerry even japan's own astro boy and chibi maruko chan also kobo chan the protagonists aren't one that is lazy and overreliant, instead they took the initiative for themselves to do what needs to be done and be active. As for Doraemon themselves i say again there's a lot of recent (dating far back since 2000s) Doraemon episodes (especially the movies) where Nobita is less lazy, less overdependant, and the bullies are not bully but instead they work together with conflicts expected for temperamental conditions of their age.

The issue with Doraemon is that it’s a longrunning anime and episodes had to be censored most of the time(A year later I have watched the Japanese version and yeah I agree with comment to this day )

I really appreciated how accurate our dub was in the UK. It's a shame nobody recorded the episodes, I use to watch it daily.

Also and more as a curiosities, the "new" logo of the English dub actually comes from a looot of time before, I'm not sure of who really did it but most likely Shogakukan or TV Asahi, but I know that it has been used since around 2002 or 2003 in Latin America (with the yes open although), but it probably has been used in other places as well from around or after so as well; also the "ending" of the 2005 series UK is left in instrumental because that's the first Opening of the 2005 series on Japan that used in fact that instrumental version of it.
Yes, Italy used the logo for the second dub too, although that's from 2003.

Interesting. The only logo I had seen before it was the one that had the bell for the second "o", I was not aware the current English one isn't very new. Still is a good upgrade from the bell one.
Edits in the LUK dub were limited, even including "Hell" and "God" on children's television. But in the episode "Noby, Little G's Boyfriend" Noby practices dating with Big G, with Sneech spying on them and questioning their actions. This scene was heavily censored. In the episode "The Change of Clothes Camera", a shot showing the girls backing away in fear from a naked Big G was cut for unknown reasons.
Also, Fujiko Pro enforces the name changes on every new English Doraemon material, which is why this dub wasn't exempt from the name change. The only exception to this seems to be official movie subtitles. Oh, and the dub of Movie 19.
I also wonder why the US dub was chosen to air in Australia.
I think that the voices in this dub are very mediocre.
Australia didn't air the UK dub because it was commissioned by LUK, the licensor in Spain.
Ahaha, yeah, I'd figure there were more extreme changes like the ones you mentioned. "Hell" and "God" seem to be more acceptable on UK TV (I discuss this with my upcoming Shin-chan video).
Fujipro has a role in every dub, it isn't surprising they'd have a master list certain dubs abide by. Toei has something like it for One Piece's English releases.
I just found out about your channel and wanted to say that I really love your overview on the history of these dubs! As well as the lost media thats bound to come with it. I was introduced through the Disney XD dub so I'll always have a bias for the cast (especially Marshall's Doraemon), but I never knew there were previous attempts to bring Doraemom to the west until now! Again I really appreciate the work you do for these and look forward to whats to come!

I didn't have a problem with BangZoom's dub's cast, nor the changed names. What I DID have a problem with was the 4Kids mentality of Americanizing everything. Kids today have the internet, they shouldn't have to have something as simple as chopsticks dumbed down for them!
You can blame TV Asahi for that, they changed the names to what they thought would appeal to the Western market and would be easy for younger viewers to pronounce, and tried to make the series look like it takes place in the US.

Unfortunately, Viz owns the rights to the series in the US, so the odds of them releasing it on DVD are very slim.
A similar situation happened to Captain Tsubasa. Viz bought the rights to the 2018 adaptation and aired it on Fubo TV, and then did nothing with it for about 4 years, before just recently putting it on Amazon Prime.
The same will probably happen to Doraemon, if it does get rereleased, it will probably be on streaming platforms and not on physical media.

One curiosity is have a Brazilian dub of Doraemon 2005 It is based in the english dub of Disney XD (i guess) even the names are the same like Nobita is Nobi And Shizuka is Sue the dub is made by a unknown Brazilian dub studio named Zastras And distributed by Sato Company one time is supose the anime pass with this dub in Discovery Kid butt this don't hapenned butt he pass in Band And for a time he are available in the Brazilian Netflix
The Brazilian dub is based on the original version as Sato Company got the rights for Brazil from Rose in theory, and they already did it from the original so of course it makes sense that Sato decided to do so too; although Sato decided to localize the title cards in a weird way by putting the name of the episode in them in Portuguese, Spanish and Japanese.
I also wanted to mention that I believe Ben Margalith voices a couple characters in LUK Internacional's dub of Shin-chan, also done by Red Angel Media, including Masao, a future version of Kazama, and a few extras.

My friend actually told me that the Japanese redub is actually only a re-edit with the original voice clips. The only new thing is the intro.
The article made it sound like it was completely redone. Was the music changed like the dub?
@@HalKozy The music was changed to the US dub, but the dialogue audio clips are the same as the Japanese original, with very few re-recordings.
Btw, while the English dub of Stand By Me Doraemon was never released in the US, it was released on iTunes Japan, Amazon Prime Video Japan, theaters in the Arab world (with a completely new trailer), and on Netflix in Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and the Maldives.
Because of that, the dub is easily available.
Didn't realize it went beyond Japanese iTunes. I saw the trailer with Arabic subs but couldn't figure out if they actually showed it in theatres.

Also TONY OLIVER THE ENGLISH VOICE OF LUPIN THE 3RD WORKED ON DORAMON?! I remember watching parts of the South Seas dub in the Philippines. I definitely recognize some of the voices from the English dubs of other animes based on the Doraemon manga authors other works aired here like Ninja Hatori & Chimpui. I really hope to find the film dubbed as I missed the ending as I watched it in my youth, but I weirdly can’t find a place to watch it at the moment.
Personally, I blame Disney for screwing over Doraemon in the west. Its unfortunate that it got shoved in the background with bad time slots, and a huge lack of marketing.
Viz Media (the parent company of Bang Zoom Studios) did a good job with the dub, however their decision to be distributed to Disney was a poor one, and effectively killed any chance of it becoming popular here in America.
Why Viz never shown this to other channels that would have been more promising I’ll never understand. I mean, one channel stands out right away, and would have been the perfect choice!

I think the reason why Disney XD was chosen was most likely because Yokai Watch (which Bang Zoom dubbed as well) was already on there, so they most likely thought it would be a good choice, despite it truly not being a good one.

While I appreciate the ENG dub getting a release, it just feels to me they didn't put much effort into this. And I feel they could have done this dub in the 90s with the Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball series since those gadgets fit those timelines, imo.

The dub was amazing.
It still feels weird whenever I hear someone use the Japanese names as opposed to the dub names. "You expect me to believe there are people in Japan naming their kid 'Suneo'?" I say, as if Sneech is more realistic
In the Bang Zoom dub, Suneo got renamed as Sneech after a crowd of fictional birdlike Dr Seuss characters, minus the t as in Sneetch.

In my opinion Noby being overreliant to Doraemon is what makes him kinda unlikeable especially how in many other shows, western or otherwise, the protagonist took the initiative themselves or them being helping somebody else in need.
Perhaps an editing to the western version of Doraemon to make Nobita appear to be less reliant to Doraemon and Doraemon instead acting good by himself would make it fare better.
But then again there's a lot of recent Doraemon episodes where Nobita is less reliant toward Doraemon and the bullies are not bully but instead they work together

@@watchforever1724 though in many many other shows especially kids oriented from looney tunes to tom and jerry even japan's own astro boy and chibi maruko chan also kobo chan the protagonists aren't one that is lazy and overreliant, instead they took the initiative for themselves to do what needs to be done and be active.
As for Doraemon themselves i say again there's a lot of recent (dating far back since 2000s) Doraemon episodes (especially the movies) where Nobita is less lazy, less overdependant, and the bullies are not bully but instead they work together with conflicts expected for temperamental conditions of their age.

The issue with Doraemon is that it’s a longrunning anime and episodes had to be censored most of the time(A year later I have watched the Japanese version and yeah I agree with comment to this day )
