  • It's done! The trip has come to an end...except, we have a 6 hour layover in Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Follow us as we explore and literally get lost looking for Yu Yuan Garden, making it difficult for us to make our flight on time. With everything that happened, will we make it back to the airport and our flight on time?
    Come get lost with me.
    Chapters:
00:00:00 - Intro & Flight to Shanghai Pudong International
00:01:10 - Arriving in Shanghai (getting a Chinese temporary entry permit)
    00:02:15 - Taking the Maglev
00:04:00 - Getting to Yu Yuan Garden
00:05:26 - Returning to the airport

CAMERA & AUDIO EQUIPMENT I USE:
Primary Camera: GoPro Hero 8 Black (7 Black for this video) ► amzn.to/2XYwrEe
Secondary Camera: Apple iPhone XS Max ► amzn.to/2B35lD2
    Microphone: Rode VideoMicro ► amzn.to/2XV87Di
Mic Adapter: GoPro 3.5mm Mic Adapter ► amzn.to/2Yus8Q5
REASONING: It's taken me some time to figure what I need to make the travel videos I like. I've not had any photography or videography training; so I've not gotten into higher end mirrorless or full framed cameras. I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. 85% of the time, I film with my GoPro Hero 8 Black, and I recently began using the Rode VideoMicro for my audio, which I use to record voiceovers as well. Occasionally I use my iPhone XS Max to change things up or when an extra camera is needed.
    GOPRO ACCESSORIES:
Camera Housing: Ulanzi G8-5 Aluminum Video Cage ► amzn.to/3fhYft4
Underwater Housing & Filter: Kupton Housing Case Filter Kit ► amzn.to/2B0oaqm
Grip: Patekfly 12 Inch Flexible Camera Tripod ► amzn.to/37o2m48
Mouth Grip: GoPole Chomps - Hands-Free Mouth Mount ► amzn.to/37pbZzz
Underwater Grip: Movo GB-U70 Underwater Diving Rig ► amzn.to/3cZH3XR
Pole/Stand: Smatree S3C Carbon Fiber Detachable Extendable Floating Pole with Tripod Stand ► amzn.to/2XUIVg2
    Lighting: Litra Torch 2.0 & LitraPro ► amzn.to/3fltGTu / amzn.to/2MQKlSF
Lense ND Filter: K&F Concept 52mm Fader ND Filter Neutral Density Variable Filter ► amzn.to/2UEAXFI
Battery Charger: TELESIN 2-Pack Replacement Batteries and Waterproof Allin Box Charger ► amzn.to/2zqAeRc
Power Bank: RAVPower 26800mAh Portable Charger ► amzn.to/2XXq444
Carrying Case: Large Carrying Case for GoPro Hero ► amzn.to/37nt6BQ
REASONING: I enjoy using GoPro cameras. The GoPro Hero 5 Black was my first action camera and liked the ease of using it. It also helps that it's rugged and can take a beating. I'm not too good with fragile things and lots of cameras are fragile; not to mention expensive. And those are the reasons why I began using it instead a traditional camera. Since then, GoPro cameras have have become more sophisticated and with the right setup, vlogging can be easy and fun. Also, I tend to go for extended travel and traveling light is an important factor. I currently have two GoPros, the GoPro Hero 7 Black and 8 Black; so my 7 now acts as my underwater camera.

Awesome video mate! I have a 9 hr layover in Shanghai! I get In at 6am and have a flight to Beijing at 3pm! Do I need to recheck luggage and how much time do you recommend on if I just visit the Bund?

How long does it take approximately to get through customs/immigration? Does it depend on how busy it is at the airport? I'm from Canada so I'm worried it might take a bit longer. Whether or not I check in a bag or just do a carry-on is kinda up in the air too because of this issue.
On my way there, I have a 20 hour layover which I'm not concerned about. It's on the way back, my layover is only 1.5 hours and I'm worried about getting stuck in customs or missing my flight.

I have a 6hr layover is that enough time to go the Bund and make it back in time ? Our flight arrives in Shanghai at 5:30 am on a Sunday so I’m not sure what will be open that early. Would it be best to just take the Maglev to Longyang Road to hang out there and head back .

What do you recommend as the best transportation and safest way to get to the city? (center) Since my layover is 9hrs I want to be able to get to the city fast and be able to come back in time without worrying about traffic and missing my flight. I heard the Maglev train is good? but I am not sure how the train system works there? what do you recommend? can you buy round-trip tickets for the Maglev train? What the best and fastest way to get to the bund? did you take a taxi? How do you get a 24-hour visa? do you need to get your passport stamped at a specific place in the airport? Also how much money do you recommend exchanging in Chinese currency?can u do they exchange it in the airport?

If you have layover, Why you need to take your luggage ? I don't understand that part bcoz when you already have your both boarding pass, your luggage need to be picked up at final destination, in your case is SFO. Can you please explain.

Was it pretty easy to get around Shanghai? I have a 15 hour layover and I'm flying alone so I'm pretty terrified of getting lost.

Thank you! Yes I'm arriving at 5:30am so I do plan on leaving the airport and touring. I was considering taking a paid tour but after watching your video and other similar videos I think I can do this on my own. Maybe I'll meet other travelers willing to venture out.
