- This is the story of Dom's RX7. Although we know where the Hero #2 and the stunt cars are, but the Hero#1 has been missing for many years. Can you help us find it.

I know where Doms RX-7 is, in that parking garage he left it parked at 20 years ago. It’s collecting a lot of dust with a bunch of “Wash me ;(“ on the windows. Maybe he should go back and pick it up when he comes back from outer space someday.
Edit: Okay it’s parked on the side of a water tower in the middle of the desert with “Wash me ;(“ on the windows. There, fixed.
the car can be spotted in the movie after being ditched after the first race. its seen when they get the parts for the supra and is last seen at race wars before toretto and crew leave for the botched heist. it gets left there because they don't come back to race wars (til fast 8)

If you use streetview, you'll see that ramp to the parking garage is now closed for good. Fortunately Dom didn't leave the Mazda there, but in the open where his Civics where hidden.
Crazy how the engine tuning scene has progressed in 25 years. Back in late 90s turbo stuff was almost like black magic, only specialized tuners knew how it all worked. Nowdays every 18 year old kid knows that with extra boost an additional fuel is needed. Nowdays almost every car guy can put together working turbcharged engine and can even learn proper ECU tuning online. Same with car audio, back in 90s and early 2000s amps were like $ per watt, nowdays some 1000w amps are like $150.
Feels like i'm turning into my dad who constantly boasts how everything back in his day was difficult and "your generation has everything too easy".
"can learn" is a lot different from actually learning. Finding car guys that taught themselves how to tune is very uncommon. It's more typical to take a car to a tuner to have it done, even with cars that have plug-in stage tuning like Cobb. At cars and coffee type meets it's a lot of newer cars with the hoods down and the owners don't know anything.
Funny how every 18 year old kid thinks after watching a few Fast and Furious films they are mechanic's and molest and ruin JDM cars!! Also they think they can attempt to drive manual shift!!
Give those kids these days the same equipment and technology of that era and they have no idea what to do. This movie sparked the entire car scene with numerous company’s trying to profit of it. That and the fact that cars just became much more easily tunable with all the electronics controlling everything. I’m pretty knowledgeable with cars from 1990 to 2015 but man is it a bitch working on my 66 mustang, especially the carburator
Not true, Only a idiot with no idea would not understand that an engine needs three things Air, fuel and spark. if increased air needs increased fuel and also that means stronger well timed spark. A piston engine is a lot more tolerant and not a sensitive as a rotary. Fuel and spark need to addressed immediately in a rotary,

Remember Leon, how we never got an explanation as to what happened to him? He actually took the car when he left the city, and he'll be back in fast and the furious 20 when they go under the ocean to fight off a bad guy in secret unerwater bases. He'll pull up in that car. For family

lmao ikr, but in reality im pretty sure there was only one car used for the scenes it was in because there was no stunt driving or race scenes it was in, it was crushed by the feds because someone bought it and tried to register it so it was confiscated because it wasnt supposed to be in the US, i think florida doesnt care really but im sure it moved states

Dom's RX7 License plate # is now on a 1994 Mitsu 3000 GT Last tagged in 2004.
So in theory the person who owns the 3000GT owns the RX7.
One car you won't be able to find, let alone purchase that was in the first two F&F movies is the hero one R33 Skyline. Also known as "Big Bird". That car sadly ended up being crushed due to being seized by the FEDs for being one of the MotoRex cars that fell into that whole drama scandal.
Big bird wasn’t crushed solely because it was a MotoRex car. It was ALOT more complicated than that.

It's funny that people ask about what happened to it after being ditched in the parking garage. Craig literally showed the shot. They were driving it when the F150 lightning was loaded down with parts. Somebody went back and got it

None of the cars are worth millions. The blue R34 GT-R is about the priciest car. The Supra would be the next most expensive but not as expensive as the the blue R34 GT-R.

I believe in one of his previous videos he mentioned it would be awkward for a man his age to be rocking a car that looked like that, which is the reason why he sold it. Then again, at the time all of us weren’t sure of the market for these cars

Dom actually drives the rx7 after he parks it in the lot. He drives to the charger with Brian to tell him about it and how his dad died 😊
That engine sound just added to the humour, along with the motech exhaust. I first saw F&F on video with the guys from our car club. FD Kai. We all owned FD RX7's. We were in fits of laughter watching the movie 😂, but I love the nostalgia today. I bought my FD in '98 and still own it, I guess my kids will inherit it when I die.
Have to admit a rotary like Hans rx7 sound track would have sounded sooooooo much better though.

Dom did bring Brian back to his house in the RX7 to show him the Charger before they finished the Supra...after he threatened "You break her heart, I break your neck" so it wasn't abandoned

Always found it funny that after he drops off the RX7 in the garage. The cop car does a one eighty in on the loudspeaker yells for Toretto
And it's two different cop cars that were used for that scene. It's a crown victoria when it passes him, then when it stops and turns around, it's now a caprice

I wonder how they did the editing too. It's not easy to record, blend and rev car sounds like that
I have some and I'll be doing a vidoeo about that
90's street race scene, I NEVER seen cars with those kinda graphics on them. If anything they had manufacturer names or club names on the windows or along the sides, but that too was rare. Paint schemes were simple or styled after Touring Racing cars of the time. Majority imports were slammed . Most people racing concentrated their money more on performance parts not so much flash. That's what I saw in the 90's in Long Beach

I always LOVED how this car Sat on the road.
That specific Veilside Body Kit, the fixed Headlights ,GT Wing and suspension give this a ride height that is Nigh on PERFECT.
Visually, this car for me is the best looking iteration of Trim and Body pieces for an FD RX7.
Yes,the Graphics and wheels are a touch dated by todays standards.
However, you could easily swap a righteously good looking set of BBS wheels on that ,and at least remove the rocket ship section of the graphic, and link up the silver streaks from the Front of car.
And yes, even though the sound was dubbed in, I think that a swapped RX7 FD would have been a reasonable candidate for the Street Racing and Import Tuner crowd back then.
Example..
(Someone prior Maybe buys it new ,cooks the original Rotary it came with or they find it in a salvage yard as a supposed write off and Dom and crew are like , lets fix it & shoe-horn a Turbo Inline 6 in it and hit the streets.)
I just found Han's Veilside to be Too Gaudy and overdone by way of making a Widebody and using those Ridiculous Wayyyy oversized wheels.
That FD looks like it was built by someone filthy rich with an UNLIMITED budget....
Not somebody ,street racing what he Has and earns upgrades
with his Winnings.
Minus the wheels and main rocket ship section of the graphics ,Dom's RX7 looks EONS better to Me than Han's and more realistic as an Actual Street Racer that someone has Built themselves over time.
That Orange Veilside FD is basically,
a half million dollar esque styled, Sema Show Trailer Queen, build that got a Movie role and I am not a fan of that car For that reason.
I cant wait to see you do a video on Johnny Tran's S2000 from the first movie!! I LOVED that car and want to build a, to spec, replica of it

After the parking garage scene, the rx7 appeared when they took Supra´s parts, at race wars day time and the last time this car appeared was at race wars on the night that Dom and his crew left the event to pick their civics for the last heist.........problably somebody stole the car or even Mia took it and hid it in some secret garage.
Craig! SLAP JACKS SUPRA from 2 fast is also used in the movie GRANDMAS BOY and it wears the same graffix as the movie!! Can u do a video on this. I just watched grandmas boy on hulu.

It is possible, the cars in the movies have changed hands/ownership over time.
Their is one RX7 and eclips clones built by barris customs but as i seen those on my own at a car show but both of those cars is whackjobs.
NGL, Dom's RX-7 is rad yet surreal as we're used to him being a Muscle User.

During filming of Race Wars there at the San Bernardino airport, it had just closed as an Air Force Base just a few years prior. At the time of filming, was there much aviation activity actually going on at the airport, or did the production have the run of the ramp area as much as they needed?
In the Charger/Supra race scene at the end, I know you mention how the train was not real and was added, which makes sense seeing that area….no way a train is going through there at that speed. But also in that location, what was all the aerial piping seen running parallel to the street; and those green wall looking things next to the road? Were those some kind of asses props for the set? Or covering something up?
The airport was still running for military aircraft but we had most of the ramp area to ourselves. I didnt see the area before they started shooting but the pipeline was definitely already there before we picked that location. because i remember seeing them when I used to go to Terminal Island to drag race. As for the green 'wall', I'd have to look at the scene again in 4K but IIRC they were boxes off the back of truck trailers. I looks very different today

Hey Craig! It’s me Mike I’m the son of Lance Lars! Met you when I was like 12 at one of the universal garage’s where the guy Earl Moorehead (he races mustangs I think) was heading if I remember correctly They showed the rx7 in other scenes in the movie after it was parked in the garage

Still find it hilarious how Dom started off as an import driver and later turned into a "I drive muscle only and so should my nephew" bighead. Almost as if the writers forgot where he came from.😂
The only other time we see the RX-7 in FnF1 is when theyre driving back to doms with the lightning loaded with parts. thats the only time the RX-7 was seen in the movie outside the 4 way race scene

I wish they featured this car more in the movie, just a few more scenes or involvement with the car, they still look modern today almost 30 years old

I’ve had a second gen turbo 2 for a few decades now. Absolutely love the car!! But I always knew that sound wasn’t right for Dom’s car. Just glad to actually hear that confirmed by someone who really would’ve known!! It used to drive me nuts anytime I’d watch that movie.. So it’s good to know that I wasn’t just crazy!! lol.
Some big names that are still in the business. Mazdatrix and re amemia. Legends in the rotary game.
That rx7 from ff2 is one of the most beautiful cars of all the ff movies. Followed by that yellow r33. Id never replace the classic pop up headlights thoo.

I think the RX7-SP defined the RX7 as one of the Ultimate JDM hero cars at Bathurst Beating the 968 in enduro racing nearly a decade before it hecoming a Movie Star in F&F

If you look closelyat the side mirror in the chrome you can see two people one is in a white shirt and the other is in a red shirt any back story on those people? I actually know where the car is! I bought a vw bus transmission off of a guy in Oceanside CA, and he had this car sitting in his back yard! He said it was the one they used in the movies
In one of the next movies here’s an idea all of Dom’s cars get destroyed but low and behold he still has old faithful rx7 stored away and uses it as a last resort 🙌🏻

I seen “Doms” RX7 in a mechanic shop in south central los angeles. Its been there for the past 5 years or so. Its still parked in the same spot.
One of the orange Julius rx7 just went across the block at the mecum here in indy last yr. N the year b4 was the supra 190k which was a record then it sold in vegas for 500. The caprice tyrone used in the la missile thing was here too a few yrs back.
I dont know which one it is, BUT , theres an rx7 is in the city boarder of carson/ gardena ca. About 5 miles from the first race scene. The owner of the shop said its one of the production cars

The movie DID show you what happened to the RX7 after Dom parked it in the garage. It was shown at racewars when Brian pulled up
i dont gotta watch to say its out there with a solid color paint job and is hiding amongst the other experienced assassins.
Seeing the begining of the story I for the life of me cannot understand how Mazda managed to make the flagile rotary engine to last the full 24 hours of Le Mans.
Because rotaries didn't die in 24 hours. They're unreliable sure, but not unreliable enough to die on the first use.
They aren't fragile at all. They won't last as long as a piston engine but they handle abuse much better. The eccentric shaft has 33% more load bearing area compared to a crankshaft and there is no reciprocating motion, only rotational. This means they handle misfires better than a normal car and can rev to insane rpms. You won't get 300,000 miles out of a rotary but you will get 150,000 of driving it at redline every time you drive it. I have a dirt cheap rx8 and I literally take it to 9500rpm multiple times per drive and I daily it. The 787b that won the 24hrs of le man's was taken apart after the race and the engine looked so good that the engineers said it could have raced another 24hrs without any issues. Not to mention they limited the car to 9000rpm and 700hp for reliability which ended up not being an issue at all, the original setup was 10500rpm and 900hp. It seems like rotaries can go to about 13000rpm before they start to have problems. After that, the vibrational forces grow exponentially and you could get chattering of the rotor to the housing.
I seen that car at the movie car museum in Vegas where the shot up eclipse is stored at. The rx7 had an automatic transmission in it.

Hey, I believe one of the RX7s is owned by the Steele family in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I could be wrong, but I’ve seen one (I don’t believe it to be a replica) on display at Steele’s Wheels Auto Museum, I don’t have a tonne of knowledge on the authenticity but it looks completely accurate in offset and vinyl wrap
Wasn’t one of the rx7s used in another movie outside of the fast franchise had Dennis hopper in it and a judge gto it was called the last ride I believe. It’s in a race scene at the start of the movie
Kinda curious. What happened to that silver Evo 8 you did up in candy apple red on the Fast 1 featurette? I know it wasn't an actual movie car, but whenever I watched the movie, I'd always watch your featurette remodeling it. Was it your car? Just some random car for extra features? I liked the graphics that was chosen for it too back then, and I'm normally not much for graphics.
I'm not much for graphics, either, but they are one of the elements of that era that are likely to come back, soon. (I mean in the over the top way that they were back in the day, or at least close to that)
That featurette was actually on the original 2 Fast 2 Furious DVD.

The graphics back in the day were actually way cleaner and better looking!
That featurette is also on my Fast 1 dvd though, the 1 that came out before 2 Fast 2 Furious when they decided to add a prelude story that sets the plot for the upcoming in theaters 2F2F. Look up copys of Fast 1 called "The All New Tricked Out Edition" I bought that before 2F2F was even released in theaters. They may have decided to reuse it for the 2nd movie's features too.

The RX-7 was a great car that was all about racing technicality. The charger is just "oh look I can do a wheelie and ram into things."
Always liked the look of this car, more so than any of the other F&F cars. Really slippery look yet lean and aggressive. I wouldn't mind buying an RX-7 and doing an engine swap to it and adding that body kit.

doms rx-7 is actually sitting at the trailer during race wars towards the end of movie.
so thats why all 2stroke dirt bikes sound like 4strokes in movies...
