  • 📢 Fun to say and an even more fun time to be around, Labradoodles have become ever so popular because of their family friendly nature and loveable disposition. If you’ve ever found yourself perusing the Labradoodle breeder sites looking for your own furry buddy, however, you may have noticed strange nomenclature like F1 and F1B floating around. This is what denotes the kind of Labradoodle you’re getting, and this could affect a variety of things like coat color, size, and even to an extent disposition, which is why today we’re taking two very popular breeds, the F1 and the F1B, and comparing them so that you as a potential pet owner can make the smartest pick for you. Let’s get right into it, then, shall we?
    👉 A Quick Overview
    🦴 What is an F1 Labradoodle?
    Let’s get all the science stuff out of the way first, so we can get to talking about adorable doodles. The F in F1 stands for filial, and the 1 stands for the generation number, and so in this case, an F1 Labradoodle is the result of the first cross between a Labrador and a standard poodle. This creates a cross between the two, which is what we call the Labradoodle.
    🦴 What is an F1B Labradoodle?
    A F1B Labradoodle is slightly different from an F1, but the difference isn’t super striking. So while an F1 Labradoodle is split down the middle with 50% lab and 50% poodle, the F1B is about 25% lab to 75% poodle. Now you may be asking yourself why, and you may be asking yourself how, and we will get to that in a second, but essentially the B in F1B stands for back cross.
    🦴 Appearances
    When comparing the F1 and F1B, one of the first things that becomes apparent is how much the coat can change. The most interesting difference between the two from an appearance perspective is that the F1B looks far more poodle-like when comparing both, which makes sense as it has a lot more poodle in it than the F1, which can have straight or wavy fur and retains a lot of golden retrievers in it. The F1B will require more grooming since poodles don’t shed, but the counter to that is you won’t have to deal with vacuuming or sweeping up hair like you may have to with the F1.
    🦴 Grooming
    Like we just touched on, the grooming situation is a double-edged sword here with both options, and ultimately comes down to preference if allergies aren’t a factor. The F1 will not require as much grooming, as it will be shedding more, and the F1B doesn’t have to deal with tufts of fur coming loose but will require a lot more brushing as well as more frequent trips to the groomer.
    🦴 Energy Levels
    While the energy levels of your Labradoodle shouldn’t be massively affected by generation, it is true that labs have more energy than poodles, and some have found that the more poodle their doodle is, the more docile they are and vise versa. Take this one with a grain of salt if you wish, but if none of the previous comparisons swung you and this one does, go for it!

    Our 4 year-old F1 male is 90lbs, athletic, and very calm disposition. Our 2 year-old F1B female is 60lbs and hyperactive I mean insane.

      I think the 2 year old might calm down as they get older. But yes, some doods are just insane

    I got lucky. My F1 doesn't really shed. Took more after the poodle. As a puppy he started out straight away then went curly.

      Very luck! Awesome. We prefer nonshedding dogs, but the downside is that you have to regularly groom them.

    Your F1B graphic is wrong. It shows 100% Lab mixed with 50/50 poodle/lab results in 75% poodle.

      Thanks for pointing this out. It’s too late to fix it. Our image is actually a reverse F1B, not the typical F1B. Appreciate it.

    i want to get an F1b- mom is a labradoodle and dad is standard poodle, will he be non shedding and hypoallergenic?

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  9 місяців тому

      Yes, most likely. The breed would have to do a genetic test for the nonshedding trait, but it's most likely going to be non shedding and hypoallergenic. Just pick a puppy with a curly coat.

    1:43 the chart looks wrong to me, this breed is 75% labrador 25% poodle

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  Рік тому

      Hey! It’s correct. An F1B should be 75% Poodle and 25% Labrador. Most people would want this generation.
      A 75% Lab and 25% would technically be called a reverse F1B

      But in you picture you are showing a Labrador parent with a labradoodle, not a poodle with a labradoodle

      @@rainman21O Sorry the 100% Labrador is the first generation used to the make the F1. The. The backcross is the F1B. I can see how it can get confusing.

      @@WeLoveDoodles it’s not confusing. I think you just have the wrong pic. Should be a poodle on top left.

      I was a lowly middle school science and sex education teacher and your image needs to be changed to a 100% pole for the outcome you predicted. It has been 5 years since I taught and gender has dramatically shifted in opinions but the Mendelian genetic theory (punnet square for you kiddos) it’s what is on display here.
      You are correct in the more desirable outcome being that of a true F1b vs reverse F1b.

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  Рік тому

      No. Most people don’t backcross to a Labrador. It’s likely going to be straight coat and shedding since it will 75% Labrador.

    A Light skinned African American was called mulatto but if they married back to black their children were considered Sambo that’s when USA measured race. 😢 Other names used to measure race, Octtoom, quadroon,mango & mulatto
