    I have an F1b standard Goldendoodle
    She’s only seven months and she’s huge really big already. And I don’t think she’s done growing LOL. She’s very vocal and has separation anxiety because she’s been with me all day since I got her at eight weeks old. She is the sweetest thing ever. They are so smart and are easy to train which makes it so much even more awesome. I’ve had her for a couple months now and I can’t imagine my life without her. She is literally a part of me I call her my little girl but her name is Goldie ♥️🐩🐩🐩

    My 9.5 years golden retriever just past away by cancer two months ago. I still feel traumatized by that. After we realized golden retriever is the highest possibility breed for cancer, we decided to get a doodle instead of another golden retriever. This video is very helpful for us. Thank you.

      My heart breaks with you. My dog just passed away from cancer as well. But just so you know doodles are prone to cancer as well. Most die of cancer when they are 12-14. If it’s a larger doodle ( like mine ) it will live to be 12-13 most likely. But at least you get a few more years after 8 years. Smaller dogs live longer because they don’t undergo intense gene mutation from rapid growth in the first year. Smaller poodles 10-20 pounds can live up to 20 years. 20-40 pounds 15 years and anything over 40 pounds 13-15 years. Anything over 60 pounds is less than 13 yearsa

      We lost our beautiful rescued Golden boy to cancer a day after his tenth birthday. He was with us only 4 years. Loved every minute. We considered a doodle for a second but we so love the Golden personality we decided to rescue a 3 year old female and she's a joy! Open your heart no matter the breed you decide on.

    Standard poodle owner here! I'd been looking for a goldendoodle for almost a year, when I met a standard poodle owner who convinced me to "poodle" instead of "doodle" -- and I'm so glad I did! My standard poodle is hypoallergenic, has an easier coat to maintain than most doodles (groomers agree on this too, and it costs me less money to groom as a result), great temperament, calm, intelligent, amazing with children, and responsibly bred with health testing. If you like the doodle "look" just ask your groomer to give your standard poodle a goldendoodle haircut. Both standard sized F1B Goldendoodles and standard poodles have the same curly coat -- the only aesthetic difference is how their hair is cut!

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  3 роки тому +19

      Agreed! You can doodle a poodle! However, some people like the temperament of a Golden Retriever so they hope it passes genetically.

      @@WeLoveDoodles True! Standard poodles were originally bred as working dogs in Germany to retrieve ducks from the water for hunters- poodles tend to have prey drive and love water. Both are great breeds- the most important thing is that the parent dogs have good temperament, are healthy & responsibly bred!

      I agree with this statement so much! Stop making mutts a thing. It’s a mutt… “hoping” the golden retriever side comes out is bizZare to me. Why can’t you just get a golden? If you’re allergic… then get a poodle 100% smarter than a golden & just as sweet & loving. I don’t understand the hype on these mutts.

    I got a F1 Goldendoodle and I couldn't be happier. I wanted the personality of the Golden Retriever. As it is, a 50% Poodle personality took some getting used to but with training, the loving side of the Golden Retriever is now more dominant. Also, the coat on her is more to my liking. She has waves in her golden coat and not the Afro of a poodle. I'm not a fan of the Afro Poodle or the Poodle personality. With the F1 Goldendoodle I got exactly what I wanted and she gets compliments on how her coat looks better than most Goldendoodles regularly. She also gets compliments on her behavior regularly.

    Great video, always wondered what that meant. Only really recently found out what the difference is between a Goldendoodle and a Labradoodle. I've got an F1B golden Labradoodle. When I was walking him and chatting to people that said they had a Goldendoodle, didn't really know what they meant, as they looked very similar to my Alfie. He's a fantastic dog, friendly, intelligent and so playful. Has some Poodle traits, like barking at other dogs on the lead, he's fine off it. Used to own a Labrador, but he's not quite as crazy, also doesn't like swimming at all, loves to paddle though. Would like another as I personally like most of the standard Poodle traits. Really like Standard Poodles though, not as keen on the small ones. Just an easier dog to control and train than my Labrador was, a bit more affectionate too.

    I have an F1 goldendoodle bitch who is a medium size and I decided to let her have just one litter. We mated her with an excellent miniature poodle and she produced 6 beautiful healthy puppies (F1B's). The puppies are now almost 2 years old and the owners have kept in touch with photos etc. They are all very much smaller than their mum and non-shedding too! If you are looking for a smaller, non-shedding goldendoodle, I would highly recommend an F1B.

  • @christinahighsmith4453
    @christinahighsmith4453 Рік тому +1

    Great explanation of goldendoodle genetics. However, as an owner of both an F1 and an F1b, there is no guarantee that even an F1b is 100% hypoallergenic or non-shedding. Both of my doodles shed. I adore them both, but would choose an F1 over an F1b any day due to it being the perfect combination of two wonderful breeds. The F1 inherits the perfect amount of calm, loyalty, and sweetness from the retriever, with an equal mix of intelligence from the poodle. F1bs, obviously, tend to get predominant poodle characteristics and can be on the hyper side.

    I'm a professional Dog Groomer in the state of VT. In this video they talk about grooming every 8-12 weeks. My fellow associates and myself recently discussed this at the NE Groom Show. Doodles should be done every 4-6 weeks. They require lots of intense brushing on a daily basis. About 20-30 minutes minimum. They mat easily when wet from being outside, even the snow in the winter. They have to be completely dried and brushed everytime they get wet or they will most likely mat up. Many new Doodle owners have come into my shop not realizing the amount of grooming and personal care at home a Doodle needs. Most doodle grooms from talking to my fellow associates range from $100-$150 depending on where you are. I know some who require their Doodle owners to bring them in monthly. Just want people to understand that amount of care that goes into owner a doodle. They are great dogs with wonderful energy. They also require a lot of socializing and training or they can become holy terrors lol. I say that with love. I say we are in doodle heaven, many groomers call it hell. So many Doodles become nightmares with their personalities if they are not trained and worked with regularly. They are very sweet and loving.

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 роки тому

      We agree with this. Thanks for your input. The 8-12 weeks recommendation is really only applicable if you shave your doodle down really short. We should have been more explicit with this.
      If you leave your doodles hair long, you definitely need to go in every 4-6 weeks to prevent mats, tangles, and knots.

It is always good to have two dogs so they can keep each other company especially when you are away from home. 🐶 F1 Goldendoodles are the most likely to shed and they may even shed the same amount as a Golden Retriever. You would be better off getting an F1B Goldendoodle or F1BB if you have allergies. I have mild allergies and do fine with my F2B Goldendoodle (same Poodle % as the F1B).

      If you want a F1 standard goldendoodle, I would suggest to find a female one who’s mom is a golden retriever and father is a poodle. Biostatistically, this girl won’t shed or shed very little.
      I got a F1 standard Goldendoodle girl and her dad and mom are standard poodle and golden retriever respectively. She doesn’t shed at all and all her female siblings barely shed (very few of her brothers still sheds).
      I made this decision before discussing genetics with my friends who are medical doctors and vet. BTW, I have asthma.
      Remember: all doodles need to be groomed regularly. If your doodle doesn’t shed at all or barely shed, you need to brush your dog’s hair as often as possible. I brush my girl’s hair almost every night before she goes to bed.

      Look into a breeder and the litters that they have had. I also love the Golden Retriever the most and I got an F1. Her father is a golden colored poodle and all of the litters look Golden Retriever color. the only variations are in the nose color being either black or brown. She needs grooming and trimming but shedding isn't a problem and house members with dog allergies aren't having any problems.

My husband and I are seniors......and though we love the Goldendoodle, we don’t believe we have the stamina to raise another puppy. Are the F1B’s less energetic?

    I understand the nomenclature of P, F1, F1b, F2, etc., but one thing I have not been able to find is what is the proper nomenclature for a pup whose parents were both F1b? I've also been told that the F1b designation is only for 75% poodle and 25% golden. What, if any, would it be for 75% golden and 25% poodle? Looking forward to your answers.

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 роки тому

      Typically F1B x F1B is an F2B. Sometimes it's also called multi-gen - you'll need to clarify with the breeder.
      Yes, sometimes F1B is 75% Golden and 25% Poodle. Basically when an F1 is backcrossed to a purebred Golden it's that type of F1B. This isn't very common, but you should also ask the breeder of the parent dogs.

    Great video. Thanks for the explanation. With all the emphasis on the benefits of the poodle genes, why not just get a poodle? The video did not cover why the hypoallergenic, non-shedding, curly haired, more intelligent poodle gets crossed with golden retriever at all.

      @idontdiscriminateihateever6017 3 роки тому

      I always wondered the same thing. I never got why people don't just get poodles. IMHO they are better than Golden's in every aspect. You have to groom them just as much, so that doesn't matter. The poodle comes in more colors, Comes in different sizes, they are smarter, tend to have better genetics, they don't drool as much, don't shed and can hunt just as well as a golden. The only thing I see is personality, BUT most trained poodles are just as loving and friendly as Goldens and labs. But I may just be bias because my whole family has ever owned Goldens except me😅

    • @Donb1233
      @Donb1233 3 роки тому

      @@idontdiscriminateihateever6017 I for one don't particularly like the way poodles look so a golden doodle was a compromise between myself and the wife. In the past I have bred labs so I'm familiar with genetic traits being passed on- both good and defect- and I didn't want to have purebred with breed health problems.
      IMHO, you have your IMHO and I have my IMHO and it's wholly unsurprising that we have differences of opinion just like dog breeds have different traits.

    • @WeLoveDoodles
      @WeLoveDoodles  2 роки тому

      This is hard. Coats can change over time once they lose their "puppy coat". You can't really 100% tell which kind of coat you dog will have, but they tend not to vary too much. Make sure you get the puppy coat that you want. You'll notice that some puppies in the litter will have wavy, curly, or straight coats. Also, coats tend to fade at least a little bit over time.

      It depends on the generation of mini Goldendoodle. I'm assuming your Mini Goldendoodle is an F1 (bred from a 100% Poodle and 100% Golden Retriever). If he's backcrossed to a 100% toy poodle, then it would be an F1B. However, if your mini Goldendoodle generation is different from an F1, then the title would be different. Hope that helps!

      In terms of genetics they would be the exact same. F2B is more multi-gen so if it’s a reputable breeder they should be able to predict size and coat a lot better. You can’t really say one will be more non shedding or hypoallergenic though since they are technically the same percentages.

      Was he backcrossed to a Golden Retriever or a Poodle? F1Bs can either be 75% Poodle or 75% Golden Retriever. It shouldn’t shed that much if you bought from a reputable breeder.
