Just picked up my CB650R two weeks ago. After the first 500 miles I'm still very satisfied with my decision. It is my first ever bike and I was undecided for long time. As a beginner rider I tried out many different brands and I felt very confused deciding how much power do I really need and what's important on a bike for myself. Here is my feedback for everyone interested in buying the CB650R. Hope it helps - Sorry for the long response! Pro: 1. The bike looks super nice and many people appreciate it. I went with the matt gunpowder black metallic version and I love the combination of dark tones with these collored rims, engine and shock absorber. 2. It is as smooth as it can get, which is great for beginners like me. It doesn't really matter which gear you are in, it always stays very calm and controllable. I am not the greatest biker yet and this honestly helps a lot! Also driving slowly is insanely good as the engine almost never dies nor starts shaking. With the rear brake fully applied you will master every turn! 3. It has great sound! It is also kinda loud when revving over 6000 rpm. The registration states 97 db here and people asked me about it already. 4. The price for value is insane. As I have finished my A license last year, Honda gave me a welcome bonus of 10%. I paid 7300 Euros for the bike with all import taxes included. Additionally I have ordered heating grips, sports package and a custom license plate holder. Overall with everything I got it running for exactly 9000 Euros in Germany. Con: 1. I personally think it feels a bit heavy. I have tested many other naked bikes like the '20 MT07, SV650, F900R, Z900 and in comparison I feel that this is a bit more heavy. 2. The license plate holder looks disgusting and makes the bike very long. I told my dealership to remove it and replace it with a custom one right away. Now it is much more appealing! 3. Touring options: It is a naked bike in the end and you will feel a lot of wind riding it! The seat felt comfortable at first, but after a longer trip this weekend, my back started to hurt. 4. Gadgets: I am still a bit sad that there is no app for the bike. I would love to see lean-angles, fuel consumption [...] on my phone. Also, you cannot connect to your display at all. Thus said, it has no electronic throttle control, which means: No blipper! Also, I had to adjust the bowden pull wire after the first rides. The traction controls works pretty well, but otherwise it is just a raw bike in the end ;). I'm a big fan @EnglishBikerDan - keep up and cheers from Germany
@@tkurban You probably have heard of quickshifter, which enable you to switch gears up without using the clutch. Blipper works the other way round, meaning you can downshift without using the clutch. Good luck!
@@yusiftaheb9767 I ended up getting a svartpilen 701. But I am looking to trade it in for an r1 or a gsxr1000r. Going to the dealer this sat to see which one suit my body.
It is about time. Last few year has been a bit staid and forgetable from an aesthetic point of view . Bikes were fine buy individual style, as unimportant as it is, was a bit lacking.
I had the Hornet and later the CB650F. I love the inline 4 cylinder. The CB650R is one of the most beautiful naked bikes in the market for me. I even thought to trade in my MT09. But I'd probably miss that as well...
Got mine a month ago, 1,200 miles now. Love it my favorite bike I have owned, and I have had a 10 ninja 650r/ 12 cbr1000rr/ stateline 1300. And I ride my dad's road king some times. I have to say this thing handles great, and has all the power I will ever need. Fun factor is great especially if you ride it like it wants you to. Above 8,000 rpm. Lol but wait till after first service
Excellent review - I don't think anyone covered the changes for 2021 as well as you did. And your ability to articulate how those changes are perceived by the rider is pretty much unique.
I'm here in America and I bought a 2019 in red. I still can't get enough of it. It's a fun bike to ride, the only issue I have with it is on the highway the wind will take you off the bike over 70 mph but hey it's a naked bike. I might just upgrade to the 1000r black edition in another 2-3 years.
Really hard to beleive that this -21 model is improved compared to my lovely -19 machine! Because my ol' CB is absolutey wonderful! 32000km and counting!
The 2019 model is still fantastic but the changes to suspension really do make a real world difference. At least, I thought so! Hope you enjoy many more miles!
I've had mine for a month now, and I concur with everything you say....it's all true, ha ha! I had a 1999 CB1300 for 14 years, with no issues..that's a great tourer. One thing stood out to me with this 650R is the immediate and responsive throttle...and that's probably due to it being fuel-injection, not carbs (just an observation). Superb Honda Engineering is everywhere. Front mudguard is a bit short though, so a radiator guard and mudguard extenders are a good idea. Thanks Dan, I love your reviews.
Looking forward to the comparison video with the Triumph. Trying to work out what would be practical enough for a daily motorway commute in the middle sized bikes.
I lasted 3 months with the cb650r, sold it and went back to a speed triple, having to wring the 650 to get it to shift wasn't quite what I was expecting. Pretty bland really, shame I wasn't able to get a test ride before buying as it ended up being a very expensive mistake.

I bought my Honda dealers exhibit-CB650R in Pearl Smokey Grey. I´m really in love with the bike and can`t wait to ride her when she`s mine in April. Great review. Greetings from Germany. :)
It interests me cause I generally like Honda bikes, also started out with a Honda CBF125 (Code 111 in Austria for light motorcycles), making the 'big' A licence now and I'd take it in either the grey or the red, love those both color variants.
I bought a red one last month and absolutely love it. The new painted front fender is a winner too if you ask me. Lifts the looks and is particularly gorgeous is the metallic red. This is my first big bike post DAS and I find it incredibly stable at all speeds and very easy to maneuver in the garage. Don't let the weight put you off. It carries the weight low and lifts off the side stand easier than the Trident. I also found climbing aboard so much easier as the pillion seat doesn't kick up as high at the rear. A thing of importance if you're not overly tall or flexible 😄
Appreciate you mentioning US pricing. It seems like all of honda's neo sports cafe bikes in the US are about $1000 more than they should be. The CB300 is around the same price as the 390 duke with way less power and less tech, the GSXS750 undercuts the CB650, and the CB1000 is pricier than an MT 10. Honda seems to think that their little styling exercise gives them the license to price their bikes however they want.
I don’t know about you guys but I just cannot stand the decepticon/ transformer looks of many of the naked bikes. Great job from Honda and great review.
Thanks for the review. Probably, the best selling feature is its 4cyl inline for 600cc bike. High HP for passing capabilities at highway speed. Good point about vibrations at 7K RPM.
I am 6 foot 215 lbs. Current bike is 07 Suzuki Burgman 650 and great MPG in upper 40's. Run premium fuel in a 4 gal tank. About 150 a week commute. Last bike was 30 years ago and it was an 81 CB 750K, and it got 40 mpg with a 4.3 tank. Love the smoothness of the Burgman centrifugal clutch. I think I would fancy the red one you mentioned. Wish I still had the CB! Thanks for the ride, it could be a contender replacement.
In 1977 I bought a 1975 CB400F-it was a great bike and it saw 9500 rpm shifts all the time-cruised it at 8000 in 6th most of the time-tough agile bike and loads of fun-this bike is much more of the same kind of fun with a better ride-torque and braking-if it remains anything close to the reliability of the 400F I would think it a superb ride!!!
I can tell you that the pillion seat sucks and that was just a 20-30 test ride! Definitely looking forward to the day when I can get one of these, fell in love at first sight
Thanks for the review EBD. Said before on your CB650R reviews that it’s an aesthetic stunner, no doubt. However......The Big H has missed an open goal with this 2021 update. By far the biggest issue for me (which is a deal breaker) is the torque is just too high up the Rev band so you’re having to cane it too often. No harm in spanking the motor occasionally but you tire of it and lust after a bit of lazy, playful power lower down. Shame really, if it had the MT-07 motor, a guaranteed purchase.

Probably the best bike I've ever seen saw an earlier model when done my bike test think was a 2018 in dark red what really caught my eye was the lovely bronze engine colour. At the time I was into dirt bikes so got a ktm 350 wish I brought one of these instead as they are bloody expensive now and can't find a second hand one. Lovely review tempted to get a 2021 and sell the dirt bike to help pay for it
I was so torn among Honda CB650R, Suzuki GSX S750, and NInja Z900. I ended up buying S750 and I am overall quite happy with it.... But, the sentiment of the "Road NOT taken" lingers with me... I mean the "Bike NOT taken".. Not that I cannot get them in the future, but still... 😁😘😎.. By the way, my S750 runs from 270 km (city ride) to 340 km (cruising) with a full tank.. 😊
Atleast you know when you're getting it lol my dealership is telling me they know nothing about when the bike will be here... I paid for it a month ago
@@suckanegg6691 The wait is definitely a pain... I paid for mine about march 20th. I got the email only last friday.. It'll be even more worth it when you finally get your hands on it tho :)
He is a bastard :) Tricked me into getting one as well. Had it for a year and absolutely love it. I'm still considering that exhaust upgrade that he did.
I've got the new 21 model in the States. MSRP is $9200 usd. I managed to get it for 8500 no haggle because I bought from a Honda Powerhouse dealer and they took off the 700 instantly from the manufacturer rebates. No other dealer was advertising it. I'm quite jealous everyone else gets better colors while we only get matte black...I'll just have to wrap the tank and front fender. You also get a usb socket under the seat while we don't. It's the perfect bike for where I live. Rarely use the highway and my city doesn't have any curvy roads so for the street the 650 feels perfect. Definitely prefer the torque from a Ducati monster though. Been trying to find some saddlebags for it but since it's a new design there's no mounts out currently. GIVI have one coming soon that lets you use the st609 bags but I can't find any reviews for those bags. Mounting bracket will be called the te1185.
CB650R or Trident 660: I don't like the sound of ''less urgent low down''. Mind you, I trust Honda's reliability over Triumph's any day. I wonder what the next GSX-S750 looks like. The new 1000 looks great. Hondas are not boring. No motorcycles are.
This has the better looks over the trident imo. And I love the sound of the cab650r. I don’t even have a bike license but I’ve become hooked watching these videos. Think I might just get my license !

I can’t wait until I finish college and get a big boy job. This bike is near the top of my list. Plus, in the USA, these bikes are RARE because it’s either fully faired sport bikes or Harleys. Or at least in Texas, that’s the case. Once I get mine it’ll be a lovely unicorn.
A weeks wait??? 😲 Are they stealing it for you? Ordered mine last Friday and i'll be lucky to see it before November! 😥. Pleased for ya though.... safe travels mate.
Based on this and previous reviews of CB650R I'm going to buy one. I'm a new biker, just took my license, and that will be my first bike. I'm still in doubt about color... But I will definitely pick "black" or "red" color.
Hey Dan!!!! Again killer review champ. Watch every review you have done. I cant get passed the styling of intake "ram air " covers. I seen a guy who had a bodyshop make him a cover that incorporates radiator side panel INTO the Ram cover. Holy cannoli what a major improvement. Please be safe if your ever in the states give a shout out get you a machine in minutes
SWEET! They brought back the 4into1 sweep pipes from the late 70's CB400F! Wow, was THAT a good idea...they must have had people reading the comment threads on BaT.
Dan, love your reviews mate! So tempted between this and the CB500. Both are fantastic bikes, especially compared with MT07 which I found to a bit flimsy, plastic and general not as well made! Keep up the good work and be safe out there.
Can’t really test bikes in the USA at most dealers lately. This bike definitely interests me but can’t decide between it and trident and used street triple
I suspect the vents on the rear fender are there to channel and control airflow so that water thrown up from the road gets whipped backwards by that airflow.
Had mine out on the motorway/highway for the first time today. Have it in the new Pearl grey color. Intense experience, remember to hold on because the wind sure wants to kick you off^^
Great Video Dan you definitely gave that some beans 👍....cracking bike I also noticed my demo had the Dunlop tyres, I also pressed the horn button annoyingly a few times by mistake too. Take care Jake.
Yes it is a hard choice. I think the main difference ist the engine. You have to figure out if you like the 2 or 4 cylinders more. I chose the Honda. I am exited to get mine by the end of next week.
I'm trying to decide between polar opposites for my first bike, CB650R and MT 07 (both restricted for A2). Even after watching tens of reviews on either one, your comparison vid, and having tested them both, i'm still undecided. I love the grunt of the MT, and being able to have more fun with less speed on it, but the Honda is so much more refined, and pretty. Sounds better, too. I might do a coin toss and stop worrying about it.
Every time I watch one of these review videos, I really envy how cheap/reasonable motorcycles cost in the rest of the world... I've placed a deposit on the 2021 Honda CB650R in matt black which hopefully I can pick up in June.. in Indonesia where I'm from, it cost Rp 298,400,000 (approximately USD $20,700 or GBP £14,950) ridiculous I know, but we don't have a choice. Unfortunately the government slaps on a 'luxury tax' of 125% on motorcycles which has a CC of 300 and over.. and to make matters worst, most motorcycle manufactures here don't allow 'Test Rides'... so we have to buy one and just hope for the best. Btw, great videos Dan and I'm looking forward to your head to head comparison on the Trident and CB650R. (and I'm hoping you'll like the CB650R more because the Trident isn't available in my country hehe)
Vietnamese here. We used to have the same tax, but its been lifted just a few years ago. We also make the process of getting an A2 license much easier and more approachable to promote the change. The tax remains on cars tho, as our infrastructure is terrible and totally not suited for cars, well people still buy them anyway regardless of the price. Test rides are more common ever since the price decrease. I hope your country will lift the tax eventually in the near future, its gonna take sometime but eventually you will get there!
Very strange of them to raise the peak range and drop the peak torque! I guess they're slaves to the regs though eh! But if you say you wouldn't notice it, I'm sure nobody will care! The USB-C socket is a real winner! Wish I had one of those from the factory!
Yeah a bit odd. Someone also mentioned that on the dyno this model makes more torque and power at the wheel. I can't check that for myself but interesting if so! Cheers Andy 👍
Hi Dan, as always it is great to watch your vidoes of bike reviews, test rides and etc. Eagerly waiting for the CB650R and Trident 660 comparison video. Any chance you will be riding the CB1000R 2021 version? Have a great day and cheers! With regards from Malaysia, Yann an.
Trident no match for cb650r. Not only is this an easier bike, it's quicker when you want fun and sounds glorious. Triumph quality is way better but feels like a small bike whereas this is so much easier whilst being so much capable. Triple r is the triumph to go for which compared really well in capabilities with cb. Also trident bottoms out on every speed breaker!
Ok it’s just me I guess but cars R in the wrong side & it is crazy on camera. 😂. Sounds nice n smooth. Honda in its real heart ! Looking for something in that range for country driving and commutes in north east of USA 🇺🇸🤘🏼. Looks fun & I hear fun from the laughter ! Whooo

Lovely review tempted to get a 2021 and sell the dirt bike to help pay for it
Just bought second hand 2021 in the grey absolutely love it
Nice one. Enjoy! 👍
Just Brought... I'm totally falling in love with it ❤️
If only the new cb750 hornet looked this good !!!
Only 3 weeks left until I can pick up mine🔥🔥
u will absolutely love it :D cheers (another cb650r owner)
congratulations!
My man! I'm so stoked for you. I'm picking mine up with the same blue colour on wednesday!
Hi Dan, I just bought the red one a week ago. Thanks to you about your first ride reviews it was really helped me to decide.
This type of exhaust looks better
Got one of these that I picked up yesterday. Mostly from your reviews of your 2019 model. Very excited. Good vids. Thanks.
Very nice! Enjoy the new steed 👌
That could well be a placebo effect of my full system exhaust vs a stock one.
Cb650r anyday. But gsx-s750 is better than both and sounds glorious stock
This has the better looks over the trident imo. And I love the sound of the cab650r. I don’t even have a bike license but I’ve become hooked watching these videos. Think I might just get my license !
I agree about looks. This is a prettier bike, but then I used to own one so I might be biased. You should definitely get your bike licence. 👌
@@Englishbikerdan I’ll have to work the wife but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do. I could finally join my friends who ride. Thanks for the great reviews. You have converted a non believer
08:59 good to see you're a Curb fan 😁
I can’t wait until I finish college and get a big boy job. This bike is near the top of my list. Plus, in the USA, these bikes are RARE because it’s either fully faired sport bikes or Harleys. Or at least in Texas, that’s the case. Once I get mine it’ll be a lovely unicorn.
Foreal. I’m in Washington state and CANNOT find one of these bikes man. So disappointing, really wanna buy it.
It looks awesome. I like the bronze color addition to the silver, chrome, and whatever color you choose.
blue paint; gold fork legs; dark bronze wheels, light bronze engine cases; matt ally footrests; playskool yellow rear spring. pure meh!!
Nice, I was hoping you'd make a video of the '21 model.
Just ordered mine today in red 👍🏻
A weeks wait before collection 🥲
Thanks for the review 👊🏻🇬🇧
It looks so good in red. Enjoy! 👍
I bought this bike like my first bike and it is amazing 😍😎🤜🤛
Great video! And very good insights mate. Keep them coming! Cheers
Can't get past.
Good to see that the roads in the UK are as banal as ours in ZA
On photos is so so..but in person man this is a hell of a bike.It looks soooo powerful, much more than lets say mt 09
That header pipe is beautiful
SWEET! They brought back the 4into1 sweep pipes from the late 70's CB400F! Wow, was THAT a good idea...they must have had people reading the comment threads on BaT.
Yeah, one of the things I loved about it.
Dan, love your reviews mate! So tempted between this and the CB500. Both are fantastic bikes, especially compared with MT07 which I found to a bit flimsy, plastic and general not as well made! Keep up the good work and be safe out there.
Thanks mate! Ride safe.
What did you buy?
Can’t really test bikes in the USA at most dealers lately. This bike definitely interests me but can’t decide between it and trident and used street triple
Have you considered a Yamaha MT-09?
Thx for the review , can’t wait to ride it finally❤️💘
I suspect the vents on the rear fender are there to channel and control airflow so that water thrown up from the road gets whipped backwards by that airflow.
I've been looking at lots of bikes as thinking of changing my 2016 CB650F , this is a high contender on my list
Great Review
Good choice!
I have the 2021 model in gray and I am very satisfied
I have the red one. Love it!
Had mine out on the motorway/highway for the first time today. Have it in the new Pearl grey color. Intense experience, remember to hold on because the wind sure wants to kick you off^^
You start off right in this video! Great choice.
I love that color! I'm in the States and it looks like it's just black for 2021.
Great review!
I have mine a month and I love it
Great Video Dan you definitely gave that some beans 👍....cracking bike I also noticed my demo had the Dunlop tyres, I also pressed the horn button annoyingly a few times by mistake too. Take care Jake.
I own an 89 Hawk GT. It pulls a wheelie at 60 kph in a curve, I am considering the CB650R just for fun.
Greetings from KERALA, INDIA❤️.
my fav bike but i really like to see this cb650 in touring modification model
LEADER OF THE PACK. Gorgeous motorcycle ❤️
The choice between this and a MT 07 is a hard decision
Great video !
Mt07 all day long!
Yes it is a hard choice. I think the main difference ist the engine. You have to figure out if you like the 2 or 4 cylinders more. I chose the Honda. I am exited to get mine by the end of next week.
Positive comment for the youtube algorithm. Nice bike and video!
Hey, thanks!
Good to see a good old UJM again :) Best Regards!
I swear that is my 84 night hawk same sound I loved that bike
I am looking forward to buy this bike, i would prefer the black one. Thanks for the video, a really onest opinion i liked that. Have a Nice day
I like that blue color I wish it was available in the US
awesome vid as always Dan! :) i would love to get those front forks for myself :D and that new mudguard/plate holder from the back :D
Alright Dan, met about a month ago at loomies, glad you’ve done this review, will definitely be getting one
Hi Rhys, good to hear from you! Nice one, you won't regret it 👍
I know Honda says it’s making less power. But when motorcyclist magazine dyno tested it. It made 1.5hp and 2ft lbs of torque more than the 2019 model
Dyno's vary wildly too. I can't confirm or deny as I don't have access to a dyno.
where can i find that dyno graph?
@@deliferman I didn’t see the graph, but they mentioned it in this video ua-cam.com/video/KGEaHoK0t1M/v-deo.html
I love the red and gray, but you know what - that blue looks fine too. It's all they had in stock ready to go, I'll take it! 🤣
What did you went with in the end? 😊
So wait, is the suspension of the 21 different from the 19?
If yes is it really noticeable?
Yes, bigger pistons. It's noticeably better at damping out the nastiness of the Uk roads!
nice video bro,as always.. Hopefully one day will own one despite financial my challenges
Africa Twin, Nc750x, Forza series, Xadv and now this...Thank you Honda you are no1
XADV coming next week!
@@Englishbikerdan Excellent
Agreed, too expensive in America. Its like $9200. It should be more like $7500-$8000.
1 look and im in love.
Oh my God .. the best moto for every day ,that color oh my God.
Ohhhhh shit!!! A Honda 600cc super naked? Count me in!
For price reference: It costs £10,500 here in Norway.
Hi, yes I have the new CB1000R at the moment. Review will be coming soon 👍
@@Englishbikerdan Wow great!Waiting patiently for the video from now on. Have a great day!
Great video 👍who doesn't love a screamer 👌nice bike, nice colour, sounds good 😎
Ok it’s just me I guess but cars R in the wrong side & it is crazy on camera. 😂. Sounds nice n smooth. Honda in its real heart ! Looking for something in that range for country driving and commutes in north east of USA 🇺🇸🤘🏼. Looks fun & I hear fun from the laughter ! Whooo
Good and relaxing view.Waiting for test riding a 2021 cbr 650 r😁
