Quick correction here (and I'm about to nerd out a bit): The PSP Go can output to a TV. You just need to purchase an adapter that matches the charging plug. There also exists a "dock" stand of sorts that doubles as a place to charge the Go, as well as output it to the TV. When paired with the Go's ability to connect to a PS3 controller via Bluetooth, it begins to sound like Sony beat Nintendo to the concept of the Switch by over a decade. Unfortunately, the dock is very hard to come by, and very expensive if you do find one.
Thanks for the correction. And unlike a certain someone in the comments section, I'm glad you provided a bit of information to go along with that, instead of just insults.
YellowSuperNintendo Yeeeeeah, I saw that. Not sure where people get superiority complexes like that. I also feel the need to note that in order to pair a PS3 controller to a PSP Go, you have to do a process that involves hooking both the controller and the PSP Go up to a PS3. Not everyone has a PS3, so that option may not be open to everyone.

Great summary of what to look for. A couple things to add on the PSP E1000 / Street model's screen: It is apparently from what I've read the brightest of all models. Its colours are closer to the 2000 than the 3000 (but not an exact match to either). It also lacks the flickering / scanline issue that affects the 3000, nor does it have the ghosting of the earlier models, making it a pretty good all rounder. If you don't need video out and aren't planning on playing any multiplayer games (lacking any wireless communication at all), it's a pretty solid option - the matte finish may be preferable to some even.

I was living in japan in the early 2000s. I remember when this came out a year early in japan and I knew it wasn’t coming out in USA for another year -- I made a pretty penny buying and selling these to americans on eBay back then.
EnnonGaming but japan always used that - Nintendo and Sony and sega had that system since the 80s. It’s still like that today. Not sure why they change it for the western market though
EnnonGaming right. I was confused when I came back to USA and had to relearn those buttons. I got used to the x = cancel. My wife still CONSTANTLY hits x mistakenly in menus thinking it’s cancel.
@@alecubudulecu its a matter of being used to it, i guess. if i moved to japan and bought a playstation there, or bought a nintendo console, i would be confused as i am used to the PAL/NTSC-U setting for playstations
I’m glad I bought PSPs again. I was stuck with Vita and 3DS after my first PSP was stolen many years ago when I was in middle school. I’ve been done with college and have a job now.
i own a PSP street and its a awesome console!, I just like the modern styling and also its the perfect thickness, drawback though is the harder to change battery. I dont care about the mono sound because it has a headphone jack and dont care about the lack of wifi because most PSP's servers are shut down and also not compatible with newer wifi boxes.
PSP popular in Southern Ontario? Growing up, nearly everyone i knew in Toronto had a DS Lite. That one odd kid with a PSP always stuck out like a sore thumb in a party. Looking back at the console, hands down I love my PSP a lot more than my NDS. It was was ahead of its time and as a developer, I can only begin to dream of how far people wanted to take the hardware on the homebrew scene. I don't think my younger self would have appreciated it as much because home console visuals, game mechanics and complexity didn't matter as much as being able to just play the same games as friends did. Pokemon was hot, and the Big N had just about everyone I knew on their side of the handheld war. if there is any reason to get a PSP in 2020, its for retro emulation as the console does a solid job. Near native 1:1 PS1 emulation thanks to shared architecture and even does GBA relatively well. I replayed Minish Cap and Fire Emblem on GBA start to finish on PSP back in like 2017 and it was a lot more fun with a proper control layout compared to touch-based android emulation.
One major difference the 3000 also had is it's most hidden one. It had a integrated mic. Sony wanted to try to make it a online communication device but never made a difference. Very well made video and very accurate info 👌 and it's been said but PSP go does have video output just have to buy the stupid crazy expensive dock.
I’m sure someone has mentioned it by now, but @5:56, this is incorrect. The PSP Go CAN output to a tv via component but only if you have the dock for the unit. In fact, it might be the best way to play PSP on the TV if the Vita TV didn’t exist since it can pair to a DualShock 3.
The PSP 3000 in red. My parents bought one used for 100 Euros back in 2012. Man these memories I have with GTA LCS, GTA VCS, Tekken 5 DR, Fifa 12. Such good times Oh and let's not forget Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition. Best racing game ever
I love my PSP!! I think I'll hold it a bit now.... Play- Resistance Retribution!!! SUCH a great game with excellent music and sound. Give the controls a chance. Awkward at first, but it works.
One thing to keep in mind that is VERY important. If you are not going to use your psp for a long time, take the battery off the thing. Otherwise it will break and start to bulge until it leaks corrosive liquid into the board and maybe break the shell. Same as other devices like 3ds etc. IF THE BATTERY IS REMOVABLE, AND THE THING IS GOING TO BE IN A SHELVE, TAKE THE BATTERY OUT. Also, as a lifehack, you can take off a psp stick nub (it goes off with a little force) and just pop it in the c stick on the new 3ds if you want a better second stick.
About the battery, it is not a exclusive issue to the PSP, every battery powered device can have issues if turned down for way too long. The notebook I have, my father bought and didnt use it for a year, when he gave it to me, it didnt turn on immediately because the battery was extremely discharged amd only had some signs of life after I let around an hour charging and then it became to really charge and started to work fine.
“Speakers on handheld devices are terrible”. What? PSP had some of the best speakers I’ve ever heard, the sound was very loud and clear. Even better than other handeld consoles that came after it. It was incredible.
PSP go, CAN output to TV. There’s a reason there’s a dock, and component cables. System has been out for years with info everywhere regarding accessories and stuff but people still put out wack AF info. The Go can also be synced to a DS3 controller
Yo perfect timing on the video! I was considering a PSVita for a while, but heard that there aren't many games available in the US for it. I'm a major noob at modding, the closest thing i have done is install mods for Minecraft. I think softmodding a PSP is doable. thanks man
Funny story: I was throwing trash into a landfill and found a drawer. Upon looking inside I found a PSP with a charging cable, and when I took it home to charge I was surprised it worked! (Screen didn’t work, but I replaced it) I only have about 4 games: MK Unchained, Persona 1 and 2, and Smackdown vs Raw 2007. I have the emulator on my PC with both Valkyria Chronicles games as well as Trails in the Sky, but I’m planning on modding it to play those hard to purchase ones.
What you were calling a "Scanline effect" is actually called "combing artifacts* It happens when 480i or similar interlaced video signal isn't properly deinterlaced. It's pretty common in PS2 games on the Framemiester with the wrong video mode.
I have a PSP Go and it not only DOES output to TVs but it also allows you to sync up a DS3 (PS3 controller) to it making it the second best way to play PSP games on TV (the best being the PSTV)
I bought a launch PSP way back in 2005 (funny I thought it was released in NA 2004). I loved the hell out of it, the RPGs on it were amazing. Not to mention the classic racing games on it. The way Sony treated Vita like an STD is a crime, and an embarrassment. Anyway I think the best way to experience the PSP is via emulation these days. The screen is just way too small, I can't go back to that. Emulated on a shield TV or a PC, PSP games look glorious. I've had non-gaming friends stand and stare at me play Ridge racer on a 4K TV at 4x resolution. It's truly a sight to behold.
Still rocking mine after some years. Curently playing the Super Robot Wars games on the gba emulator for the psp. Totally recommend the Super Robot Wars games if you like Mecha anime and Rpg's, highly underated.
i have used my psp as a replacement for my iPod nano and i also played games like GTA LCS and VCS and LittleBigPlanet and Lego Star Wars and THUG 2 Remix on it, i also had a NES emulator and a GBA emulator on it.
I'm saving some cash to buy one, for the good old times! My dad used to have one psp 2000 (which is the model that i want btw) and we played a lot of things, metal slug, god of war, patapon and resistance retribution.
5:51 you're very wrong there my friend, PSP Go can ofc output to TV and better than any other PSP, using component cables + since it has Bluetooth you can connect a Dualshock 3 to it and you can get the craddle to charge it and play on TV at the same time!
Yeah, some time ago I wanted to buy one but then I've found out ps vita can do PSP no probs so got vita instead. But for it's time it was a great system, I remember a lot of people playing it on public transport.
PSP 1000 is my favorite model, tbh I haven't tried the 2 other models but the 1000 seems perfect to me so I've never had a reason to get the later models.
I recently bought one on eBay...it was a 3000, but the battery was DOA, worked for 2 minutes then shut off, purchased a replacement battery! Got here today. I'm charging it and going to update the firmware when I get the chance.

I bought a PSP E1000 (or Street how you called it) in around 2012 I think. The PSP was already dying back then but I absolutely love it and still play it. One of the best handhelds imo.
PSP was awesome. I remember watching so many videos on the PSP going on the internet on the psp
Just wanted to point out the PSP Go can output to a TV, I have it personally and use it with a PS3 controller. Loved the video!
Please Brandon MCNeill a have PSP GO and when I instal PRO-C homebrew i can't connect PS3 controller. But without PRO-C i can, do you have any advice about that?
For Screen Output via USB on PSP Go and Street (and all the other models) you can use the Remotejoylite Plugin.
Noire's little sister Uni's turn. So it's a good console. One of my friends had one.
Booted up my PSP after such a long time and it still works 100%. Surprised by how durable this guy is.
Same here. My psp uses the same battery since 2007 and it still works without any problems
Still have the same Darth Vader edition that came with Battlefront Elite Squadron. My old man got it for me when I was 8 :]
i bought my psp last year and i am really in love with it. it's the psp 3000 hannah montana version (lol) and i've hacked it to play psp images, ps1 games, gameboy, turbografx games. a cheap sd card adapter off of aliexpress will help you put a ton of games on there. :)
The silver model for the PSP is my favorite it looks really nice
I have that silver one , it’s the crystal clear one and it’s sexy , it’s Very Nice 👍
I have 128 gb in my psp go
You can get a memory stick adapter for psp go It uses a ribbon cable adapter from the psp go memory stick slot to the psp memory stick I have 2 64 gb sd cards in my psp go
The PSP really does hold the crown to mobile console gaming system.
Psp Go, super easy to mod! literally did that when i was in 6th grade!
the Psp can be also run PS1 games: you can play iconic game on the go!
my personal recommendations:
-Ys Seven
-Monster Hunter
-Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep F.M
-Digimon Adventure (fan translation)
-Silent Hill (PS1)
-Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)
if you have any recommendations please tell me!
Ys
Silent hill origins is also a great game!
God eater 1 (or gods eater burst on US) and 2 fan translated
Lord of Arcana
@@surfacner5989 GEB bout as good as it gets. Would like to play on the television that would be great.
-Midnight Club 3
-Free Running
-Monster Hunter
-Burnout
I'm about to buy my first ever PSP, and your video is a lifesaver. Thank you!
I bought a PSP Go new from Toys R Us way back in like 2014 (I think)
I dont use it much anymore, and frankly only played a handful of games on it back when I got it.
I still use my psp to this day it's really a great handheld that you can get for cheap. I'm right now playing god of war ghost of sparta
It really is along with the ps2 and PS3. My PSP is in between
the psp is one of the most underrated hand held of all time .
I got mine from my dad and I'm astonished at how many games there are. I initially thought there weren't many, but there are quite a few awesome titles for the psp.
On gta liberty city you could make a custom Playlist and use it to play your own music while playing the game. It was basically like your bonus radio station
I lost my psp when I was drunk one night. I never left the house or anything but haven’t seen it since that night. Hoping it turns up someday :(
Bastard you drunken bastard LoL JK
One reason I bought a Nintendo Switch lite was because my PSP 3000 start button broke which limited what games I could play . I really enjoyed the handheld systems and I think the PSP will go down as my favorite 🏅👍
Currently running a modded psp 1000, battery needs changing but thats all, runs well, using a sd card adaptor thing instead of memory stick duo so i have 128gb on there and its full of games
I feel like a lot of people slept on the psp. Having a psp back in 06 was truly awesome considering it’s capabilities
Love my PSP to death. It's how I was able to experience Atelier Viorate, and Atelier Judie the first time.
It's also my dedicated MP3 player, got me all through college. Good times.
@referral madness Unfortunately they do not, to my knowledge. The only fan translation that exists is for Atelier Elie & Marie for PS2.
@referral madness I speak it very poorly, but I can read it well enough to get by. :) I love Atelier a whole lot, and I waited for a long time hoping they'd localize the older games. But I got impatient and just decided to get through them in Japanese.
I wanted a PSP back in 2006 since my cousin had one with GTA: Vice City Stories and finally got one when I turned 13 back in 2011, still got it even though it's pretty old now and modded it
Halawa to Walmart's game mode PSP 2023
I was living in japan in the early 2000s. I remember when this came out a year early in japan and I knew it wasn’t coming out in USA for another year -- I made a pretty penny buying and selling these to americans on eBay back then.
I feel like the buyers felt trolled when the PSPs started in 日本語 and when the confirm button turned out to be ○ and cancel was X.
EnnonGaming but japan always used that - Nintendo and Sony and sega had that system since the 80s. It’s still like that today. Not sure why they change it for the western market though
@@alecubudulecu Well, only Sony Playstations use the X - confirm, ○ - cancel system, and only in NTSC-U and PAL regions
Funny - the PSP Go totally bombed in its day but now, it's completely awesome. I love that thing. Got it in my man-purse right now.
Best handheld ever, once the switch can emulate it I'll switch to that
@Mykel Hardin not hackable easily yet, only early models
@Mykel Hardin well im poor
I regret getting rid of my Darth Vader PSP. It was cool to have. I have a lot of great memories playing so many different games on it
I’m glad I bought PSPs again. I was stuck with Vita and 3DS after my first PSP was stolen many years ago when I was in middle school. I’ve been done with college and have a job now.
4:03 Some people don’t even see it. I just find that part funny. 😂😂😂
PSP Go can definitely connect to a TV through component, and you can also pair and play with a DualShock 3.
PSP is still a beast modded with all games and emulators etc etc
@John doue Quebec modded psp you jive Turkey
I just bought a psp 2000, with socom, nascar, gran turismo, nfs undercover, and disgaea afternoon of darkness. Good pickup for 160 in total on eBay.
i own a PSP street and its a awesome console!, I just like the modern styling and also its the perfect thickness, drawback though is the harder to change battery. I dont care about the mono sound because it has a headphone jack and dont care about the lack of wifi because most PSP's servers are shut down and also not compatible with newer wifi boxes.
Missed out on this. Parents grabbed me the game boy/ds lineup growing up
PSP popular in Southern Ontario?
The only thing I hate is there is only one stick, but it's a very good handheld especially when u mod it toons of games
Such good times
Oh and let's not forget Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition. Best racing game ever
I love my PSP!! I think I'll hold it a bit now.... Play- Resistance Retribution!!! SUCH a great game with excellent music and sound. Give the controls a chance. Awkward at first, but it works.
Great video. I recently bought a PSP with many games included and is amazing! Cheers from Chile.
you just earned one subscriber dude im about to buy PSP systems but im confused for which model to get you made me cleared up my mind thanks
The saddest part of having these in our city is that you'll get to play amazing games in exchange of having to suffer from loneliness of playing alone
I don't think even the best sounding handheld speakers are that good overall.
PSP go, CAN output to TV. There’s a reason there’s a dock, and component cables. System has been out for years with info everywhere regarding accessories and stuff but people still put out wack AF info. The Go can also be synced to a DS3 controller
The psp was say ahead of it's time. I wish it would be the same but with updated hardware (not counting vita)
Your channel is so underrated. +1 sub
Yo perfect timing on the video! I was considering a PSVita for a while, but heard that there aren't many games available in the US for it. I'm a major noob at modding, the closest thing i have done is install mods for Minecraft. I think softmodding a PSP is doable. thanks man
I got a 1000 from my buddy about 5 years ago, love it.
Michael Gonzales still got my white 1000 they’re brilliant
Funny story: I was throwing trash into a landfill and found a drawer. Upon looking inside I found a PSP with a charging cable, and when I took it home to charge I was surprised it worked! (Screen didn’t work, but I replaced it)
I only have about 4 games: MK Unchained, Persona 1 and 2, and Smackdown vs Raw 2007.
I always wanted one. Had a ds then a 3ds. Got a vita on launch day feb. 22 2012, so far my favorite game system of all time.
Subscribed cause I’m from Toronto... and I enjoyed the video
Love SRW
Kingdom heart birth by sleep, mgs peace walker,ff7 crisis core..ahhhh good ol' days
There was nothing that could beat the psp until mobile gaming came along, and now we have emulators and the switch.
I used to have a PSP but I lost it as I was moving, I got a vita but I am starting to miss my psp. :(
i have used my psp as a replacement for my iPod nano and i also played games like GTA LCS and VCS and LittleBigPlanet and Lego Star Wars and THUG 2 Remix on it, i also had a NES emulator and a GBA emulator on it.
I'm saving some cash to buy one, for the good old times!
My dad used to have one psp 2000 (which is the model that i want btw) and we played a lot of things, metal slug, god of war, patapon and resistance retribution.
I haven't read many comments.. but you forgot to mention that the 2000 and 3000 models need a bigger battery door for larger capacity batteries.
5:51 you're very wrong there my friend, PSP Go can ofc output to TV and better than any other PSP, using component cables + since it has Bluetooth you can connect a Dualshock 3 to it and you can get the craddle to charge it and play on TV at the same time!
You can play the go on tv via compunet with a ps3 controller
Yeah, some time ago I wanted to buy one but then I've found out ps vita can do PSP no probs so got vita instead. But for it's time it was a great system, I remember a lot of people playing it on public transport.
PSP 1000 is my favorite model, tbh I haven't tried the 2 other models but the 1000 seems perfect to me so I've never had a reason to get the later models.
I just found my psp in a box under my bed at my old house :’)
Does it work man?
I recently bought one on eBay...it was a 3000, but the battery was DOA, worked for 2 minutes then shut off, purchased a replacement battery! Got here today. I'm charging it and going to update the firmware when I get the chance.
I sold my old battery years ago since I played on the TV with a cable most of the time, but found a big battery for 20 bucks at an store in my neighborhood, now I use it more that my switch, so many good memories
@@TePasasALV How is it so far?
@@lexbeltran1354 I can sell you it, I've got a whole game collection. I'm just a doofus with money. I spend and spend. Now I have to pay insurance.
I think it's the perfect time of release
Damn, my dad gave me one when I was young (PSP 1000) and my favorite game was burnout 3. I remembered everything and I want a psp again just to play burnout 3.
Dropped mine in a fking lake. Was like NOooo dove grabbed shook. Dried out. Played with all the buttons for a week. Fired up. Never read discs again but all my memory card games worked. Still got it 👌
A friend lent me one to play on a while ago, but I love this thing so damn much that I need to find me one finally and play through all of FF Dissidia and Crysis Core :D
That's a solid 100 hours of content right there with just those two games
@@andresiniguez3752 Haha yea pretty much 😀
