The Word is our primary source of faith, but As Catholics we do not believe in the WORD alone, but also the traditions of the Church and wisdom of Church Fathers that are handed over to us over centuries- made known to us through the CCC, Church documents, lives of the saints etc. The Word is interpreted in the light of their collective wisdom not our own personal interpretation of the Bible. Relying on the Word alone is a Protestant understanding, you cannot call yourself a "staunch Catholic" and claim to rely on the Word alone
@@SongonFirecatholicIndia As mentioned by me earlier, the WOG does not work by merely chanting it. It's about having an intimicy and relationship with the triune God, which I share deeply. So it works for me and I encourage everyone to have this intimacy which then activates the WOG when it is used. So that's my experience and I have seen mighty miracles which I have documented since I was a teenager..so I do not want to argue but state the reality of what I have experienced since a long time and which I continue to experience even today. Reading the comments is so disheartening, I think there is a bigger problem than the Prosperity gospel here JD, and that is belief in "Sola Scriptura", which has trickled down thanks to some Charismatic movements these days that have a strong Protestant/ Pentecostal influence. Maybe you should do a follow up video addressing the issue with Sola Scriptura, which seems very basic to me but apparently not to many practicing Catholics.

Few things to clarify: 1. It's perfectly okay and even important to ask God for healing and financial needs. This video is not against that HOWEVER, when our faith boils down to "only asking and receiving" material blessings, we do not grow spiritually as we fail to accept many sufferings that God gives us by trying to wish them away. There are not many Saints who have received healing or riches, but Most of the saints we know have been poor and afflicted with diseases, yet they joyfully accepted their suffering and united it with Christ, and in the process received great graces, which merited them Heaven. The right way to ask God is with a humble disposition like Jesus did "Father, if you are willing take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but your will be done" Lk 22:42 The problem with these preachers is they focus on the first half of the verse n not the second 2. What is our true purpose in life? If we truly know and believe our life on earth is temporary and eternal riches should matter more to us, (2 Cor 4:18) Then we wouldn't be so insistent on praying away all our sufferings to have a comfortable life here on earth . We are called to be SAINTS, not "successful human beings" 3. We cannot deny the miracles that the Lord is working through these preachers, in fact it is true that many have become stronger in faith due to their teachings. BUT, some of these things that are preached are fundamentally flawed and as Catholics we should know and be aware of the dangers of following preachers blindly just because of our feelings or miracles performed. And remember, the healing comes from Jesus, not from the preachers, they are just instruments and can be flawed just like us. If their teaching goes against Catholic faith, making others aware of it is not condemnation but rather an act of charity towards our brethren. Btw the Prosperity gospel has already been called out by many Catholic apologists and priests worldwide, and Br Johnson's ministry is also banned in my diocese, so this is not the first. 4. No one is denying the power of claiming the Word of God in our lives. We all could testify to what reading the Word has done in our lives. HOWEVER, the "understanding" of the Word of God has to be wholesome and in line with the Church. We cannot cherry pick certain verses of abundance and prosperity and leave out verses that speak of boasting of our weaknesses, carrying our crosses, and persevering in suffering
Saints suffered is not normative to preach that all must suffer. Charismatic Renewal is the 20th century phenomenon - rooted in Pentecostal Movement.... Gift of healing, deliverance, prophetic word, praying in tongues has manifested like never before.... To compare it with the saints life, when such gift has not manifested/not allowed to manifest and demanding similar pattern even today is not acceptable. As per your point no 2, one should never go to the hospital either.... Because according to you, we are destined to heaven and suffering is the passport to heaven..... I have read the Saints. There is stuff where there are conflicting teachings and doctrines amongst themselves. If you compare their teachings one Saint with another it is contradictory.

You say Br. Johnson's ministry is prosperity ministry. Yes it is prosperity ministry because he uses the word of God to be prosperous even when there is lack in our lives. Joseph in the Old Testament was called prosperous by God even though his situation at that point was so dismal. Joseph was prosperous because God was with him. The word of God is God himself. So if we hold on to the word of God we are prosperous even during lack. Please study the bible before giving these uncalled for statements.

I haven't heard a single person particularly Catholics praying to be poor. Even those of us who want to be pious want the best jobs best career, best house, best clothes, successful bussiness, successful venture very often at the cost of the family. Everyone wants a promotion better job better career. ..etc. No one ever goes to work hoping to do badly. Everyone wants to have the best today and wants a better tomorrow. Even the religious consecrated priests want their congregation to do well because they need the Congregation to support them with better programmes and activities in Church. In my Parish there is a request for donations etc almost every month and rightly so because priests are helping a cause. How can anyone donate to a Priest if they are financially poor. Even the Priests praises the prosperous people who support the Church during the Mass announcements. He urges well- to- do people to donate generously to a worthy cause. Not a single Priest ot Nun has told us that they appreciate tge fact that people are poor. They always bless us to do well. They love poor people but not their poor conditions. They feel sorry for the poor because of their poverty. So let's get the right understanding.

The Catholic Church asks for money to help other needy organization as well as the poor, unlike preachers who actually indirectly ask for money. What’s wrong in giving money to help if you have it, you can’t take the money with you when you leave this earth, all you can take is the good you did to help others. Although we need money to live, giving is a godly deed.

Why is the priest during the sermon asking for money? Should he be preaching at that time? But no, he asks for money and for what? This church is old and we need funds to to take care. Why build such churches when 10 years down the line you need more funds? 10 years is a damn short time. Further, they need money for the lavish life they want to live. They have the best of cars, the best of everything. If they really cared about the needy, then give those cars away. Give those shoes away. Sell all gold and precious metals that the church has. Charity should start at home. Oh and here in a few churches, they have lucky draws too to see who funds the most. Moreover, a priest is put in better parishes if he can get more money from the people being sent to the archbishops house. A priest who won't be okay with this is put in some far away parish where the bishops house doesn't even help. They are punished because they cannot get money from the people. Coming back to needy organizations, if the church is serious about it, let it first sell off all its gold and the clergy should stop living lavish lives. Money will be saved and that money should first be sent to needy organizations. Otherwise, it's just a farce. Because all they care about is money and not saving of souls. However, I'm not saying good priests and good clergymen don't exist. They do but they are very few. Most of them are drowned in money. Now about Johnson - personally I have never seen him asking for money. There is nothing he owns from the people. Secondly if someone wants to give, it's given directly to the cause that the person intends for. He isn't a escrow. Likewise, why is the church acting like a bank or an escrow account? Why cant we give directly to the needy organizations? When someone acts as an escrow lile banks there is surely an interest. And in this case, prima facie, it looks like the interest is only in money. In a nutshell, I'm not against giving money to Church so that it can be taken care of. However, I'm against this church being drowned in material fantasies of the world for which it needs so much money.

Johnson Sequeira's teaching is on similar lines. Having a relationship with Jesus and giving him the top priority in our life is the core of his teaching. Rather than listening to one talk of his and judging him, it would be helpful if you can get involved in direct conversation with him and have a clear understanding of what he stands for before coming to a conclusion. The confidence of the people in Christ had been the means of restoration. People healed from the issue of blood, friends healed, blind healed , leaper healed, prostitute forgiven. Faith is necessary accompanied by work, which is quite evident in every healing Jesus performed. There are few instances in which Jesus had pity and healed, like the crippled at the pool of bethsaida, the widows only son.

Thank you for shedding light on this! Just a few days ago I came across a UA-cam video by Fr Jose Vettiyankal where he was preaching "moderate prosperity" and that "poverty is a curse and unless you have taken a vow you shouldn't be poor" I was shocked because he is a well known priest with a reliable and growing ministry. When I checked online I did come across Br Michael Prabhu's objections to his preaching as well, and his alleged mentorship of Br Johnson, and then it all made sense. I dunno why more of us Catholics are not speaking out on this. This "Name it and claim it" nonsense is getting out of hand... Where is "Your will be done" if all we care is about getting things done our way for our own selfish needs? It angers me to think that so many Catholics have completely been led astray, and probably haven't realised the meaning of material detachment and the power of uniting their suffering with Jesus in their daily lives... there is so much potential for spiritual growth by doing that.

Be still and discern whether you represent the Pharisees who were always finding faults to put Jesus down even when Jesus did the right things, or are you representing our Lord Jesus Christ ? When Jesus went to Jairus's house, people mocked Him for saying that the girl was sleeping when she was dead. It is written that Life and Death are in the Power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Before raising the daughter from death, Jesus put all those people out and only his disciples and the child's parents were present. Praise Jesus! I believe that before you start vilifying people of God, you need to get all your facts right. Our Lord Jesus will never want us to quarrel, find fault, judge, demeanour or speak ill about His children. We are called to deal with love with one another and not bring down another person. I have known Br. Johnson for quite some time now. My wife was healed of a brain tumour through his way of teaching the gospel and introduced us to the word of God. It has made such a massive impact in our lives. We haven't gone chasing after prosperity and we also follow the CCC and the teachings of the Roman catholic church. Do not generalise the man of God or profile him without any solid evidence. Do you know how many 1000's of people have come to know Christ through Br. Johnson? We still know how to accept suffering too, just as how St. Paul writes in Rom 5:3-4. Please do not do this. The Word is our primary source of faith, but As Catholics we do not believe in the WORD alone, but also the traditions of the Church and wisdom of Church Fathers that are handed over to us over centuries- made known to us through the CCC, Church documents, lives of the saints etc. The Word is interpreted in the light of their collective wisdom not our own personal interpretation of the Bible.

As mentioned by me earlier, the WOG does not work by merely chanting it. It's about having an intimicy and relationship with the triune God, which I share deeply. So it works for me and I encourage everyone to have this intimacy which then activates the WOG when it is used. So that's my experience and I have seen mighty miracles which I have documented since I was a teenager..so I do not want to argue but state the reality of what I have experienced since a long time and which I continue to experience even today. Reading the comments is so disheartening, I think there is a bigger problem than the Prosperity gospel here JD, and that is belief in "Sola Scriptura", which has trickled down thanks to some Charismatic movements these days that have a strong Protestant/ Pentecostal influence.

Few things to clarify:
1. It's perfectly okay and even important to ask God for healing and financial needs. This video is not against that
HOWEVER, when our faith boils down to "only asking and receiving" material blessings, we do not grow spiritually as we fail to accept many sufferings that God gives us by trying to wish them away.
There are not many Saints who have received healing or riches, but Most of the saints we know have been poor and afflicted with diseases, yet they joyfully accepted their suffering and united it with Christ, and in the process received great graces, which merited them Heaven.
The right way to ask God is with a humble disposition like Jesus did
"Father, if you are willing take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but your will be done" Lk 22:42
The problem with these preachers is they focus on the first half of the verse n not the second
2. What is our true purpose in life? If we truly know and believe our life on earth is temporary and eternal riches should matter more to us, (2 Cor 4:18)
Then we wouldn't be so insistent on praying away all our sufferings to have a comfortable life here on earth . We are called to be SAINTS, not "successful human beings"
3. We cannot deny the miracles that the Lord is working through these preachers, in fact it is true that many have become stronger in faith due to their teachings.
BUT, some of these things that are preached are fundamentally flawed and as Catholics we should know and be aware of the dangers of following preachers blindly just because of our feelings or miracles performed.
And remember, the healing comes from Jesus, not from the preachers, they are just instruments and can be flawed just like us.
If their teaching goes against Catholic faith, making others aware of it is not condemnation but rather an act of charity towards our brethren.
Btw the Prosperity gospel has already been called out by many Catholic apologists and priests worldwide, and Br Johnson's ministry is also banned in my diocese, so this is not the first.
4. No one is denying the power of claiming the Word of God in our lives. We all could testify to what reading the Word has done in our lives.
HOWEVER, the "understanding" of the Word of God has to be wholesome and in line with the Church. We cannot cherry pick certain verses of abundance and prosperity and leave out verses that speak of boasting of our weaknesses, carrying our crosses, and persevering in suffering

You say Br. Johnson's ministry is prosperity ministry. Yes it is prosperity ministry because he uses the word of God to be prosperous even when there is lack in our lives. Joseph in the Old Testament was called prosperous by God even though his situation at that point was so dismal. Joseph was prosperous because God was with him. The word of God is God himself. So if we hold on to the word of God we are prosperous even during lack. Please study the bible before giving these uncalled for statements.

I haven't heard a single person particularly Catholics praying to be poor. Even those of us who want to be pious want the best jobs best career, best house, best clothes, successful bussiness, successful venture very often at the cost of the family. Everyone wants a promotion better job better career. ..etc. No one ever goes to work hoping to do badly. Everyone wants to have the best today and wants a better tomorrow.

In my Parish there is a request for donations etc almost every month and rightly so because priests are helping a cause. How can anyone donate to a Priest if they are financially poor. Not a single Priest ot Nun has told us that they appreciate tge fact that people are poor. They always bless us to do well. They love poor people but not their poor conditions. What’s wrong in giving money to help if you have it, you can’t take the money with you when you leave this earth, all you can take is the good you did to help others. They have the best of cars, the best of everything. If they really cared about the needy, then give those cars away. Give those shoes away. Sell all gold and precious metals that the church has. Charity should start at home. Oh and here in a few churches, they have lucky draws too to see who funds the most. Moreover, a priest is put in better parishes if he can get more money from the people being sent to the archbishops house. A priest who won't be okay with this is put in some far away parish where the bishops house doesn't even help. They are punished because they cannot get money from the people.
Coming back to needy organizations, if the church is serious about it, let it first sell off all its gold and the clergy should stop living lavish lives. Money will be saved and that money should first be sent to needy organizations. Otherwise, it's just a farce. Because all they care about is money and not saving of souls.
However, I'm not saying good priests and good clergymen don't exist. They do but they are very few. Most of them are drowned in money.
Now about Johnson - personally I have never seen him asking for money. There is nothing he owns from the people. Secondly if someone wants to give, it's given directly to the cause that the person intends for. He isn't a escrow.
Likewise, why is the church acting like a bank or an escrow account? Why cant we give directly to the needy organizations? When someone acts as an escrow lile banks there is surely an interest. And in this case, prima facie, it looks like the interest is only in money.
In a nutshell, I'm not against giving money to Church so that it can be taken care of. However, I'm against this church being drowned in material fantasies of the world for which it needs so much money.

Johnson Sequeira's teaching is on similar lines. Having a relationship with Jesus and giving him the top priority in our life is the core of his teaching.
Rather than listening to one talk of his and judging him, it would be helpful if you can get involved in direct conversation with him and have a clear understanding of what he stands for before coming to a conclusion.

Thank you for shedding light on this! Just a few days ago I came across a UA-cam video by Fr Jose Vettiyankal where he was preaching "moderate prosperity" and that "poverty is a curse and unless you have taken a vow you shouldn't be poor"
I was shocked because he is a well known priest with a reliable and growing ministry. When I checked online I did come across Br Michael Prabhu's objections to his preaching as well, and his alleged mentorship of Br Johnson, and then it all made sense. I dunno why more of us Catholics are not speaking out on this.

I believe that before you start vilifying people of God, you need to get all your facts right. Our Lord Jesus will never want us to quarrel, find fault, judge, demeanour or speak ill about His children. We are called to deal with love with one another and not bring down another person.
I have known Br. Johnson for quite some time now. My wife was healed of a brain tumour through his way of teaching the gospel and introduced us to the word of God. It has made such a massive impact in our lives. We haven't gone chasing after prosperity and we also follow the CCC and the teachings of the Roman catholic church.
Do not generalise the man of God or profile him without any solid evidence.
