Outline Your Novel for Guidance Not for a Clear Story Line

We are back with another video on writing and today's topic focuses on outlining! I think outlining has a bad rep because it feels as though there are rules behind it, I've often heard authors say they feel as though they are being placed in a box or feel limited. I want to make it known that outlines are used for guidance and not a mandatory event list.
In addition to the guidance, we may have moments of confusion with getting from one scene to the next but if we have the outline we can see what is coming next and use that space to freely decide how the character will get there.
Give outlining a try. You'd be surprised how far you'll get!

I love outlining! It’s probably my favourite part of the writing process
Same! It makes me feel like I’ve completed my book already and all I have to do is add details. Outlining truly catapulted my writing experience.
I would love to learn HOW TO OUTLINE. I always know my begining middle and end, but I can never fully outline the entire novel AND IT SUCKS....so if you have any tips I am all ears!
@@tevinfitzgerald8047 The fact you know the beginning, middle, and end is great and from what I understand your problem lies within the actual creation of the outline. So two things.
1. Everyone’s outline will not look the same. Mine is VERY detailed. Probably obnoxious my detailed. So ask yourself this, what purpose does your outline serve you specifically? For example, mine was to get it out of my head before I forgot and to flush out a pathway for my story.
2. Again you are off to a great start, so to really begin the mapping process break down each of those sections further because the story is not made up of only 3 beats.
