Mini Course Pt. 1 Outlining 101: Start with Braindumping
Let's outline your manuscript! You all asked and I delivered. In this video I Start from the very top of outlining which is the brain dump. There are so many things to consider so if we can get that all out and know what we have we can move on to the next stage.
First, what’s your idea? Write out all your ideas for the book. No, it doesn’t have to be in order, nor does it have to be calculated. Just dump all your ideas out.
Second, identify your themes, motifs, and tropes. We want stories that mean something and having 2 or all of these in there can help you start to identify how you will present the message.
And last, understand what your outline is for and make peace with it. People often believe following the exact outline is a mandatory, and it’s not! I really hope to reinspire the use of outlines in the best way because it’s just a guide and if you deter from the path that’s okay because it can be changed!

I would love to learn HOW TO OUTLINE. I always know my begining middle and end, but I can never fully outline the entire novel AND IT SUCKS....so if you have any tips I am all ears!
@@tevinfitzgerald8047 The fact you know the beginning, middle, and end is great and from what I understand your problem lies within the actual creation of the outline. So two things. 1. Everyone’s outline will not look the same. Mine is VERY detailed. Probably obnoxious my detailed. So ask yourself this, what purpose does your outline serve you specifically? For example, mine was to get it out of my head before I forgot and to flush out a pathway for my story. 2. Again you are off to a great start, so to really begin the mapping process break down each of those sections further because the story is not made up of only 3 beats.

Do you have any tips for writing in third person omniscient and defining the narrator’s voice?
Ooo, good question! So, first and foremost, be leery of head hoping! Though the POV is in omniscient there should be a limit as to when and where another character's experience is inserted. This is because if you focus on character A then shift to something random like character B is whimpering, then back to an in-depth thought from A , the story then immediately feels like it is all over the place. Keep an eye out I may make a video for this since it is something I come across often.

Speaking to agents and publishers, a lot of grammatical errors in the first page would lead to not reading further, they often look at such a tiny portion of the story, but I agree that the story and characters are what are essential to get right.
Plot and characters weigh more heavily in my opinion because of you obsess over grammar, then to spot where the story needs to be fixed will go unattended. My suggestion to look more at structure is not to encourage submitting a manuscript riddled with grammatical errors for the sake of structure.

So true. My 11 year old struggles with writing. I started helping him turn boring writing assignments into to fun stories. He loves it!
This makes me happy! I think that’s a reason why many ppl think they don’t like reading, they compare it to reading from textbooks in school and it’s not the same!

These were some good points and I agree. You can have terrible grammar but a great story and the software won’t always be helpful. I never considered myself being a part of my editing team in an “official” capacity. I will going forward.
Most of the time when authors are going through their first, second, third drafts they are basically performing developmental editing because they are filling in what is missing or developing the story more. I think it all depends on how satisfied you feel with that draft.
So glad I’ve found your channel. I have recently started DNFing. I completely see your point though! As an author, I wouldn’t want anyone to force themselves to read my book, but we can learn a lot from books we don’t like. Subscribed.x
