Hi 4xoverland I like this series and I had finished all the videos about New life for a 20 years old Land Cruiser and I can't stop to watch these video again and again. Also I'd like to say sorry for my english because I'm a english student and this is my first year.
Andrew, this series is one I look forward to! Partly inspired by your videos, I bought a 105 and travelled all over Southern Africa with it. The car is almost as old as I am (25) and I hope to keep it for another 25 years. As finances allow, I hope to rebuild it back to its original state. This series, I am sure, will be very helpful in that pursuit.
I will be watching this series with great interest. While the new fangled vehicles stuffed with electronics are nice, there is nothing I like more than 4x4s of this vintage. I still think of them as 'real 4x4s'.
A restoration combined with actual 4WD , remote use...it doesn't get any better! Looking forward to this more than any other on my current watch list!! Oh wow..and I just noticed the view count..I am not alone!!!
Waiting for everyone suggesting you need a 4" lift, 35s, double lockers, complete barwork front to back, 4 spotties, 2 light bars, multiple work lamps & a straight through exhaust 😉
...see's new video - watches for 1 minute - says to myself..."this one...this series is gonna be good..." - From Cape Cod, MA - Hello and cant wait for part 2! YJ, TJ, JK!
In the time frame that this Toyota was built, Toyota just seemed like they were at a pinnacle of reliability and durability. This truck is brilliant and can be modified into literally anything the owner wants.
I have a 1998 4Runner here in Brazil. No electronics, no problem. 12 years with me in all conditions on and off road. Umbeatable. No new 4x4 is capable now as old diesel like Land Cruisers 80 or 105. If you want to check it, put anyone of them, Toyota included, in 1.5mt of water.
Oh Andrew, you got me excited. Looking forward to that build. And my regards to Paul. He is such a sympathetic person. And his calmness. So relaxing. I can understand why you like to travel with him.
I have been great anticipating for a series like this build and am really happy it’s finally happening. A more realistic build on an older vehicle is something most people can relate to. This should be awesome.
Finally back to a roots-based project. This is bound to be great. The 105 LC is wonderful vehicle. Hearing that 1HZ diesel engine whine is just wonderful! Keep up the good work.
Its not often I would care to comment on a video but this particular series is amazingly well timed. In researching how to get a 4x4 vehicle not made in in the USA over here I remembered a few conversations you have had with Paul while at his shop. I thought it would be great to have him as a resource to build up an older vehicle before shipping it stateside. I believe the two of you will have a lot of fun going through this process, I eagerly await the finished product! Thank you for contributing such a wealth of knowledge and bringing the world less traveled to life for your viewers.
Thanks for the upload Andrew 👌 This video brings back lots of memories of when Dad picked up his LC100 brand new back in 1999. It was a GXL, auto with factory upgraded 16” alloys. If I remember correctly, the colour is Sandy Taupe. Paid in full for the total amount of $62,500 D/A. Good memories :)
Good God , Paul is an exceptionally well-spoken man ! Love the series , am in the process of builing my Wrangler right now , excited to do it alongside a true master !
That's great. Most of us don't drive overland in factory new vehicles. And quite a few of us loves our 20+years and 400.000km trucks that does everything we ask of it. Looking forward to the next videos.
Thanks for posting this journey Andrew. I too have a 20 yr old overlanding vehicle (2000 Nissan Xterra 4wd). When I bought it 4 years ago it needed a lot of work. I have found that everytime I replace something the ride gets a little better. This is quite self-rewarding. I look forward to following your progress.
Very interesting. I own a 40. Was gonna go for a 4x4 upgrade like an 80 but you have opened my eyes on the 105. Absolutely beautiful vehicle. I wanna drive with confidence and the peace of mind.
This will be fun and exciting. I feel the greatest advantage of the 105 is the lack of modern electronics with the diesel engine. About18 years ago I rebuilt a BJ40 and was on a fall hunting trip several hours from home. It was late, dark and I stopped for fuel before reaching my destination. Dead battery and no go after fueling and with the boost from a generous customer I got going again only to see fading headlights on an off road dirt track. And then no lights but the diesel kept going so with the help of a large Mag flashlight I managed to get to my camp. Voltage regulator out of service but to get home just a boost to start then drove the whole way no issues. That is reliable! Looking forward to the end result.
You can put some marine grade grip tape on the rock sliders if you're worried about wet weather safety and they will have excellent grip and the tape will probably last a good 10 years with how you'll be using it.
Hallo Andrew, hallo Paul, what a nice project to follow. Your Ideas and progress will fire up many dreams. Especially in the northern hemisphere the 105 project will help us to come over the dark period of the year. So go ahead. Make my day!
Can’t wait to see the build. I love my “old” 1996 LN106 for the same reason, simplicity 👌🏼 99% of the time can be fixed or modified out on the tracks. I’ve been to Stradbroke island camping on main beach with my transfer case not working 😂 old is unstoppable!!
Its exactly what Ive been doing for the past 6 month. Bought the cheapest one I could find in germany and now building it back up. Its my first car though :D Looking forward to this series!
Perfect, I'm in the process of restoring a '99 105 here in Sydney! Going to find so much value in this series, i really hope that you go in depth on this one! Cheers
Cant wait for ep2... i have a 105r and love it to bits. Currently on a road trip of oz and all i can say is the reliability of these cruisers is unbelievable. 1hz solid axel 🤘
I like the content of this video, I wish you would do a similar video for purchasing an older 79 series diesel v8 and getting it ready for touring australia. Not everyone can afford a new car so knowing what to look for when purchasing and what to replace for reliability.
Welcome on SA soil Andrew. Your SA truck build intro had us sitting up. It just so happened that a day or three later I walked into the factory in Gauteng where yo said you would be fitting some items. All I can say is the product does look the part! Looking forward to the next edition of your local build!
Hi mate, I just wanted to tell you how awesome your content is. I’m also from Perth and I’ve been producing my own 4x4 UA-cam channel for a few months now and I know how much work goes in behind the scenes. Your content is bloody brilliant and I love watching it. Keep up the great work and safe travels.
Andrew, it’s like you wrote my mind. I just bought a Land Cruiser Prado 21 years old and I don’t really know where to start keeping an eye in! I’ll be taking notes for every detail you recommend! Thanks a lot!
I am really excited for this series that you are putting out. Hopefully this will guide me with my 1996 80 series that I have purchased. I hope this will make the podcast as well, I listen on the "I heart Radio" app. Thank you again Andrew.
I had a 1998 model 100 series gxl petrol, same colour, sandy taupe. Had it for 9 years, never missed a beat. Towed a caravan around Australia, did Cape York trip, victorian high country, and lots more. Would have bought a 200 series, but Toyota priced themselves out of my range. Pity. Still love them.
Awesome Andrew I don't need to tell you the ability of theses things when I first moved to Au I got myself a 105 barn door style 3" lift with a Garrett turbo grafted on to it properly man I've driven others but the fan makes the thing fly ( as best a few tonn of steel can fly ) driven perth a few times Darwin and gold coat heaps of tracks country wide love the thing and would only replace it with another but it would be a sad day fully kitted out to my spec by me I have that Tom bar lol love it and only want now to get a good rear bar with a rear winch as most or my travels are solo or with wife no other vehicles great sow as always cheers PHIL.😎🇦🇺
Hey Phil. I got a 105 here in Sydney. Still have the factory Toyota Bullbar on it. Only done 330k. I'll be watching this rebuild series with utter delight. Have been thinking for a while about doing a ASP canopy cut job on it. Now I can learn from him. All the best mate. Charles
Chas2Can hey man, yeah I must admit he has some good ideas plenty of experience don't always agree with him but an interesting input he looks at things from a drivers point of view I'm an aircraft engineer so look at the engineering aspect more although he has good valid points enjoy the tracks mate might see you out there 🤘😎🇦🇺
@@aeromech8563 Hey. I'm a Civil Engineer and I enjoy the practical perspective he provides. My 105 has a Garret 2860 Turbo with an intercooler. Only a 2 inch lift. Totally agree!

Videos featuring Paul are always a treat Andrew, such a gentleman. I look forward to the build 👍
The mileage is so great. My 2012 Prado has 340,000 and runs like a dream
Lovely vehicle. I owned a 2006 GXR for 5 years and absolutely loved it. The only reason I let it go was to get another Land Cruiser :)
I just bought exactly the same vehicle ... as in yesterday, so will be following this very closely. HZJ105!

Just discovered the channel looks superb. Wouldn't the world just be a better place if we had more people like that Land cruiser expert.

It already has lockers
@@1FiftyOverland triple
It needs more then. Bigger ones with a turbo rather than piston compressor to activate them too..
Beautiful Land Cruiser. Well worth putting in the work to bring it back to life

Only possible in countries where road salt isn’t used.. 20 year old vehicles here (Canada) have parts falling off due to rust! Nice find & purchase!
Another build!!! In Africa as well. Gonna be a great series 🙌🏽.

Some right hand drive vehicles for the Australian market are made in South Africa so there is a Ro Ro ferry service that exsist between S.A. and OZ.
I’m almost done rebuilding a 1991 Land Cruiser II LJ77 so I am curios to see what, if anything, I may have missed. I look forward to the next video.
