    This was very helpful in explaining how to connect 2 sets of speakers. Worked perfectly. Thank you.

    Just installed 5 Sonos amps and 7 ports for a multichannel distribution system after I blew up one of my multichannel amps. I was forced to do this, but I can say that the Sonos Amos integrates pretty well, the app is fantastic, and the sound syncs really well. Using the inputs to accept an audio signal in rooms that have a tv when only 2 channel audio is desired. The inputs can be set up to auto switch when they recognize that device is activated in that room or zone.
    I wish I had the ability to program an “off command” to these things, as I am using Roomie remote to control the video and audio when the app is not being used. Roomie integrates ok, but when you shut down a zone, you are left with no “off” option…. So you can pause, stop, mute, or set the volume to zero, but when you reactivate that zone later the user doesn’t know what’s gonna come out. This can be worked around of course with some clever sequencing, but I still have to brief the users on inconsistencies from expectations.
    I saw somebody complaining about the banana plugs that come with these. While I love banana plugs because you can attach the wire first to the banana out in the open, then reach in and make the connection…. Anyway, these are extremely well made, but they require you to hot the holes almost perfectly while reaching into a tight space you can’t see very well. I’d rather just use a single banana at a time, that has a more rounded tip.
    So, for the record, a regular banyan plus fits in the hole, even though it doesn’t look like it should. An illusion I struggle with in real life😂
    The Sonos amp itself is very clean and robust. Pretty spacious and airy. I would like to see more ability to equalize the signal path. You get treble, bass, balance, loudness, and that’s it. I have a pair of Thiels I’d like to hook up and try working the amp out, but I need to change wires around to do that…. And the banana plug thing in a dark cabinet thing probably means that ain’t happening soon.
    There is a volume limiter you can set up, which I highly suggest you do. If you accidentally turned on a remote zone by mistake (like the speakers in my barn). You could hammer the speakers to damaging levels. It’s a very slick feature.
    I also wish that Sonos had a way to shut down these things based on a daily schedule. I have roomie remote set up to do that, but I haven’t found that feature in the app.
    And so is, listen up, put the damn serial number on the back in a larger font, that isn’t grey/silver on black/silver. For this reason, I suggest anybody hooking one of these up get it up and running out in the open before you bury it in the cabinet with wires in the dark. While we are on that rant, the setup procedure on several of mine failed once or twice and I was forced to accomplish a factory reset on these devices. They all eventually worked, but is a stressful thing wondering if you have a dud, and a time waster.
    If I was more familiar with the WIIM system, specific features and app functionality, I would have gone in that direction. Haven’t heard anything bad about them.
    Most of these you tube guys are all obsessed with the DACs and fingerprints on the finish…. Yadda yadda. Just hoping to get a view, and no actual information from extensive hands on.
    Good luck making choices. The Sonos is a tad more expensive, but the port and amp are good. I wouldn’t give you 10 cents for one of their speakers. They all sound crappy considering price.

    Very helpful video, thank you! 2 questions:
    1. I see how you used 16/4 cable to connect to the amp but how does the 16/4 cable connect to the speaker end? Do you need to split the wire to 16/2 white/green to LT speaker and red/black RT speaker?
    2. If I have another pair of Sonos speakers, I can just connect them like you show in the video (5:10) so that there is 2 reds, 2 blacks, etc?
    Thank you!

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  Рік тому +1

      There is multiple way to do it.
      1. You can split the cable at the first speaker location... So cut only 2 wire to keep the cable clean up to the en.
      2. Cut the entire cable and create a joint for the part 2.
      3. Use a wall plate to start your run to each speaker.
      I did that kind of thing very often, I like it for many situation, less cable to pass in the walls and I think it look cleaner et the amp location.

      @@HowToPM Thank you so much!
      For the 2 sets of speakers at the amp (two 16/4 cables), it's ok to combine the 2 reds, 2 blacks, etc with no issues that those wires are touching each other correct?

  • @martinez209

    Pro tip: as a professional home theater installer we use the green and white for the left speakera not the right but hes right it doesnt matter but you will get confused if you open up a wall and you don't have a toner. If you don't have a toner use a battery from your remote control to test tone.

    Great video. I just purchase 2 Polk Atrium 8 SDI speakers. I am interested in powering them with the Sonos Amp. I see that the Atrium 8 are able to be used as typical L and R setup, or each one can produce stereo sound if they need to be placed far apart. My question is how would I wire the speakers to the Amp to get each speaker to be stereo? Polk shows to connect 4 wires to each speaker but not sure how would I connect that to the Amp. Or would I do 2 wires per speaker and use the Sonos Dual Mono mode? Thank you

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  Рік тому

      Not sure what your speaker is but usualy, a speaker can't be stereo by itselft.
      It's the fact that you have two speaker that make a stereo.
      Unless you can connect left and right in the same speaker.

    Let’s say I want to connect two pairs of in-ceiling speakers to one Sonos Amp: one pair for the kitchen to right and one pair for the living room to left.
    Can I theoretically use the balance slider control on the Sonos app to switch the volume between the two rooms?

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  Рік тому

      Theoretically yes. But this is a really bad idea.
      First you don't want to control volume this way.
      Second the stereo will make it weird... Unless maybe you make it mono.

    Hi. Im considering buying a Sonos mag 6.1 system for the pool area and also want to purchase a pair of Sonos by Sonance architectural outdoor speakers for the lateral yard. Can I connect these pair of Sonos architectural speakers to the amp? If so, can you suggest how to do it? Thanks. Hec

    • @HowToPM

      Yes that would work.
      Those speakers : geni.us/SonosSonance
      are compatible with the Sonos amp : geni.us/Sonosamp
      Now I would connect them all on the same AMP using the strategies I show in the video if it's all in the same area.
      Or I would get a AMP per different zone to keep a volume control everywhere.

      When it comes to outdoor speakers, my choice is clear, I go for Paradigm Stylus.
      They are the best of everything from what I have installed over many years.
      They play insanely great, and you got the base covered with the bigger one of course.
      See it here : www.paradigm.com/en/outdoor-speakers
      And of course you can get the AMP here : geni.us/Sonosamp

    This video is very helpful. I plan to get the sonos amp so I can run 2-3 pair of outdoor speakers along with two pair of sonos One SL indoor speakers. I plan to use either the 6 channel controller box you recommend Pyle PSLSW6 or ODS SSVC4. to control volume. My question, do all of the outdoor wired speakers have to be 8 ohm? and I'm assuming that you will only be able to control the volume through the sonos app of all the outdoor speakers at once and if you want to fine tune the volume you would have to do it on the controller box?

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  2 роки тому

      They don't need to be all 8 ohm, but they will not play at the same volume if you do so.

    I have a sonos amp and 4 speaker, but each pair have difference output power. My question is, can I powerup each pair (same power) into each sonos Amp channel? so Ill have 2 speaker of Bose 60w 8ohms on left channel and 2 spekers of Definitive Technology 120w on right channel. Is that ok of having differents power speakers per channel?

    Looking at using the parallel connection with 4 KEF ceiling speakers. However I'm reading conflicting reports on whether to use stereo or mono speakers. Can you shed any light please? 2 speakers for living room and 2 speakers for a kitchen. Cheers. Adam.

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  3 роки тому +1

      I would set 1 from each channel in each room. Stereo or mono does not really matter as long as they are 8ohm.
      But know that they will all play at the same volume.

    I am buying on buying 2 sets of Polk atrium 8s, they are going to be installed under the soffit of the rear of the home. They will always play the same music I am not planning on making different zones.
    Do you recommend buying this amp for that? Or would you recommend something else?
    I purchased 14AWG speaker wire and ran 4 wires to where I want to place the speakers each about 10 feet apart from where I am planning to put the amp.
    Did I mess up?

      If they are 8 ohm speaker it will be all right.
      If they are 6 ohm you will need to connect it in series, wich you still can do the way you pass your cable.
      But this amp play really well and can be synchronise with the other Sonos speaker you have in your house.
      Plus you can program a schedule to make it play the same music all day and stop at night.
      If you have any other question do not hesitate.
      Finally I would appreciate if you could order it here : geni.us/Sonosamp
      Same price for you but I make a comission. 😉

      @@HowToPM ok cool! So how can I wire them? If I have pre wired them, I can’t connect them in series or anything right? I don’t think the sonos has 4 different poles to connect them

    • @HowToPM
      @HowToPM  3 роки тому

      If your speaker are 8 homs you can connect them directly both in the same connector. If they are 6 ohms, in this case to use the series connection.
      1. Connect the positive wire of the first speaker in the amp.
      2. On the speaker side connect it normally.
      3. Twist the negative wire of the first speaker with the positive of the second speaker and add some electrical tape.
      4. Connect the second speaker normally.
      5. Connect the negative of the second speaker in the negative of the amp.
      And that's it. 😉
