Hi Matt. Ex pat Aussie Electrician here. Live in US for 20yrs. In Metric countries especially in trades & engineering we would never say 13.3 cm. We would always say 133 mm. or 133 'mill'. Everything is in mm even if measuring the wing span of an airliner. Just one more reason why metric is superior 😂
I like the fact that you are telling us what you are doing but the why. Sometimes makers are writing recipes without giving the reason for the instruction. Your projects have such a good blend of power and hand tools.
Matt I really enjoy your videos I find them very relaxing . I've been a cabinet maker / high end trim carpenter for over 30 years and I find it very relaxing watching you do your builds. Your attention to detail is second to none . Thanks for the videos .
Alcohol may help with the end grain but I found that too much alcohol tends to make measurements incorrect and adds to pieces being too short no matter how many times you cut them. The wood you used is so good looking and I think a solid top on this piece would make a beautiful island in a kitchen. Take care, jack
Matt... That finish really brings out the beauty of the wood! In my next house, I'm going to make a dining room table to match the chairs from one of your chair kits!
I love that we are both still hanging onto the same Ryobi drill press! Looks like you need to do the same as me and turn some new handles for the depth levers!
another inspiring video. starts me thinking about building my own workbench. I have the lumber your details help solve/decide how to handle the joint and over all problems.
Andrew, I’m in Wooden Boatbuilding School! I’m constantly thinking about a good bench for my home shop. I’m all about this kind of content. I’m excited to watch the series. I hope to get some great ideas.
Ik u been busy w the house, shop etc..but glad to see u making build vids again i always get inspired by your work. Your one of the tops on yt for sure. 🫡
GREAT project Matt. That's a piece of art that can be handed down through the ages! !! !!! I'm sure Brad will appreciate that bench and you for many years to come.
Great work Matt...what a job..the trick is,a good brain, and great tools to get it done..40 years ago,,this is what i wanted..turning tools all my younger days,,dont give you much time...and your young yet,,,what a great start..with a shop like yours,,you can build anything made of wood...id say..enjoyed watching..you give my ideas..
Fantastic build video, Matt! Love the look. Of course, It's gonna outlast all of us 😂😂 One of these days I'll make up my mind and get to actually building a bench... Choices choices!! 😂
Beautiful workbench and so easy to follow your video. Can't wait to see the final completion of your home and I'm sure your wife loves everything you have done to it.
You are a very strong man! I wouldn't be able to lift that huge circular saw, never mind use it. And the way you flip over those thick table tops...sheesh! Good job!
Matthew please do not misunderstand what I’m saying. I think you did an absolutely amazing job on building this workbench. My question is why use such thick pieces of wood. What you have built is not a workbench but a look at bench. It’s to nice to scratch up and get paint on, again I think you built a piece of art. It’s to nice to use and it’s going to take 2-3 people to move it because it’s got to be heavy.
I used a tenoner and mortisers 50 or more years old in about 1986. Either way works. Though it's considered crude by some to even consider it, I would just use dominos, screws or bolts to make a bench and it will be as good as yours. Even cruder is mine which is solid and put together with lags and landscape timbers. I'm Neanerthal.
Superb video on the construction of a (basic) split top Roubo workbench! All aspects of the build , from milling of the raw lumber using amazing machinery to the subsequent hand tool processes were great to see and learn from. Future proposed content relating to additional features that can be incorporated in the build will be great to see too. Thanks so much for providing this video- it is most inspiring and highly informative too for those of us interested in joinery and cabinet making!
Tthats some gr8 work. And the wright tools to do it with..getting ready to start my 1st one, Never worked in my shop, it was just a place to store my tools till next job. Thanks for the video. GOD Bless
Oh man. Our Mpls home has a 100 year old boulevard maple w tons of burls. If it ever has to come down, I'm 100% reaching out to you for cutting/drying!
Thanks for the video. I’m still trying to determine what type of bench to make as my 2nd generation of bench. Thanks for having a calm, relaxed approach to video creation.
Love me a good Roubo build! 😎 Hopefully some day I'll have a space where I can have one myself. It was nice to have a very basic build showing just the standard platform instead of all the doo-dads from the get go. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Nice informative video, as always. Did Brad help off camera or did he just watch and hold the "light"? Also, can I come over and film you making MY workbench? LOL. Beautiful wood. All those off cuts and thick extra pieces would make nice bowl blanks.
Great video, Matt, and it’s greater still to see you doing your usual peerless woodworking in your shop! BTW, I have used drawbore M&T joinery on my last couple of projects and it is my new favorite joinery technique for fine furniture! Well almost… I still love handcut dovetails the best. Anyway, Brad has himself a great bench! Happy woodworking!
Fantastic, been waiting for this to come out, just something awesome and clean looking about a chunky bench with no glue up lines in it. Almost as good as slaburdays
Nice work Matt! 30 years since I built my Tag Fried bench from his book. I took so long cuz I was so tentative/new🙄. Love your channel and keep up the good work!
Another gorgeous bench for the ages. Sobering to realize these will probably still be in use two or three hundred years from now!
3:52 Matt flipping these slabs with that "why don't you just go and play with your toys in the shop then?" "MAYBE I WILL!" post marital fight energy
That turned out awesome buddy!!.. one of these days I’ll replace my old workbench with one, gotta have goals right.. ha
That went together far easier than I'd anticipated. Some sweet bits of wood and nicely showcased with a Mr Chickadee outro.
It’s like watching New Yankees Workshop circa 2023! Excellent!
That work bench is going to be around for many decades, Matt. Congratulations
Now that's a bench! Very cool! Look forward to seeing the additions!

Just my way of poking the folks who say metric is better because it’s easy to convert units 😉
Looks worked on before it’s even moved into a shop! Beautiful!
That is pure elegance for a workbench, beautiful.
His great grandkids will still be using that bench, it's a beast!
You are doing amazing job, i came here when a other youtuber mentioned you i love your work keep the work up
Thank you so much!
Best part is that it is "one of a kind!" Beautiful and well made - thanks Matt!
Beautiful bench, lucky editor 😊
Hi 👋, Matthew , I have picked up a vintage Roubo , they only wanted £50 for it, with wood vice screws, in the process of cleaning it up,
I am always amazed by how sharp you keep your chisels.
Matt, Brad is one lucky guy to be able to get such a beautiful work bench!!!!
That bench is to die for. Thank you for sharing this video.
It's too beautiful! I'd be terrified of scratching it...
Man, this is super sweet looking!

Mies van der Rohe said, "god is in the detail" ... but Matt runs a close 2nd? Or should this be, "and then there's Matt"?

😂😂😂
Matt if woodworking is as relaxing and fulfilling as watching, I envy you, great job! and your barn shop is awesome.

I love the spalting in that top. That bench is beautiful.

That bench is beautiful.
A bench that you can beat the crap out of, but still love!

I’ve got a series on building a split top Roubo as well: ua-cam.com/play/PLHhXpsTf_LbrbsyAIPqmhhXV0aozwJbyv.html&si=WFoVAY_WKVPSqkBk
For something "basic" it pretty sure looks dang good, Matt!
Very nice. Simple, robust elegant, would love to have one. You make it all look too easy. I expect I would be repairing mistakes.
I might be a bit late to the party, but your video is the best one I've seen yet for how to construct this style of deck railing. Thank you so much! ❤
Nice looking work bench Matt.
Beautiful and strong. Very nice.

Awesome work! This workbench is beautiful!
Magnificent . . . one day I would like to produce a smaller version
Many thanks - looking forward to the rest of the series.

Matt, Congratulations mate. It is beautiful !! If Andre Roubo could just see it !!
You are a very strong man! I wouldn't be able to lift that huge circular saw, never mind use it. And the way you flip over those thick table tops...sheesh! Good job!
Beautiful and amazing!
Such a pleasure watching you work your magic!!
What a neat work bench (and good looking to boot). Brad will be very happy.
Great video. That is a substantial work bench. No chance of that moving on you.
Woodwise, Brad has excellent taste.
That's amazing you built your bandsaw from scratch!
Matthew please do not misunderstand what I’m saying.
I think you did an absolutely amazing job on building this workbench.

The top is only 3/4” thicker than mine; otherwise it’s identical. The mass makes it ideal for handtool work
@@mcremona
It just looks so massive.
Workbench builds never get boring.
Awesome workbench Matt. Your client will no doubt be thrilled with it. Additionally he has a video to show how it was created.
I used a tenoner and mortisers 50 or more years old in about 1986. Either way works. Beautiful job as expected! And, I agree! Glue makes everybody feel good. I put it on everything.

My favorite work bench has always been the last one I made!
Hi 👋, Matt, A very nice job, Phil from the moulin
Very nice, lucky Brad.
Great looking workbench Matt…. The grains make it pop I like the look much better than my rough cut maple benches that I made
A Split Top Cremo!! Oui, oui, very nice!
Tthats some gr8 work. And the wright tools to do it with..getting ready to start my 1st one,
Never worked in my shop, it was just a place to store my tools till next job.
Thanks for the video. GOD Bless
Awesome Roubo Matt. As always, fantastic job.
Thanks for the videos.
Beautiful job of work well done
Oh man. Our Mpls home has a 100 year old boulevard maple w tons of burls. If it ever has to come down, I'm 100% reaching out to you for cutting/drying!
Exquisite craftmanship impressive and detailed work one could only aspire to emulate
Thanks for the video. I’m still trying to determine what type of bench to make as my 2nd generation of bench.
Thanks for having a calm, relaxed approach to video creation.
Beautiful job well done! Thank you for sharing! 👌
Always enjoy your builds
Love the vans paired with the big a&& saw
Super nice work as always.
Really nice looking kits!
This is the nicest bench I have ever seen and is soo much
While I’m thinking of it, do any other Aussies think that Matt’s black and white portrait resembles one of Rodney Rude from back in the day?
realmente um projeto útil, simples e que durará por anos, estou afim mesmo de comprar essas ferramentas básicas de marcenaria.
Great episode! Thank you!
Thanks
Very beautiful I’m now gonna build one for my shop
Awesome Matt. Great work!! That bench looks hella good.
Love me a good Roubo build! 😎 Hopefully some day I'll have a space where I can have one myself.

Блин! Этот верстак настолько прекрасен, что на нём жалко работать! Он должен стоять в музее!
Great looking work bench Matt! Thanks for sharing it with us!💖👍😎JP

Nice build, nice table
Yeah that's awesome my man...great skill and routers lol..those routers...really nice job...

G'day Mat
That's not a work bench, it's a bloody dinning table.
👍🇦🇺🦘
That is a THING OF BEAUTY!
I don't need one, but I want one. 👍👍
Love it keep it up as always 💘
Great looking benches.
I’d love to see a photo of that 6” surfacing cutter!

I learned new things Thanks and heard song birds I've never heard in the valley
Fantastic, been waiting for this to come out, just something awesome and clean looking about a chunky bench with no glue up lines in it. Almost as good as slaburdays
Great build! I want one! Probably not practical to put into an 8' X 12' shed in Florida, though...
Nice work Matt! 30 years since I built my Tag Fried bench from his book. I took so long cuz I was so tentative/new🙄. Love your channel and keep up the good work!
