my father worked in Amman for close to three years in the late 1980's. everybody in the family got to go there except me. I got to see him when he worked later in Oman. always wished I could have made the trip to Jordan, however, I was in college at the time and couldn't meet the schedule and had to stay in school. maybe some day... my dad liked to see as many wadis as he could.

Looked like he was using a guard for some of his cuts where he could. He’s probably very aware, but good on you for pointing it out in case he’s not. But based on the quality of his shop tools, and his woodworking skills I’m guessing he may have a condition where touching the stock irritates, or just gives him an unpleasant feeling (some neurological conditions make it painful to feel certain textures) but man that looks like it’s gonna be one hell of a table, bench or whatever he’s making. Just beautiful.
Before finishing you cleaned with denatured alcohol. Then you finished with a mixture of something???, tongue oil, and lacquer thinner. What is the something?
Yes, pure Tung oil and Minwax tung oil finish which is harder than tung oil alone, I think it is a mixture of tung oil and some kind of lacquer. You can use poly or lacquer alone! Just give the workbench some sort of protection.
Actually the wood I used is beechwood and cherry only for the deadman and the leg vise! It’s not very expensive but worth it for a workbench project. Thank you for your comment 👍
Actually wearing gloves is not recommended when using machinery, I developed this bad habit when handling rough lumber to avoid sharp wood splinters, but I am getting rid of it now. Thank you for pointing that out.

@@WalterBuildsItAll Ok, yes this is a safety protection that came with the jointer, this is the standard one for Europe, in the USA they have a push block for protection that moves forward when pushing the wood forward, I think that the Europe design is safer but I am not sure if you can find it in the US. I can see that you are in the country of Jordan? Your tape measure has numbers I recognize. Is that something you ordered from the US or Europe or do you guys use the same number system and symbols that we do in the US?
🙂 almost everything you will see on my channel is imported from the US, Europe and Japan! carpenters here unfortunately don’t use the techniques nor the tools that I am using.
I have never been at any local carpenters shop and I am not interested to, except for big woodworking companies that use huge machinery for kitchen making you can consider today’s small woodworking shops as inferior, this craft is dying here, people seek cheap ikea stuff and so.
2x4 is right guessing after milling, actually they were 2 by 10, this is a European beech , from Germany and the legs are from Romania, I am not sure if you can find them in the US, but in Jordan they are less than half the price of the hard maple. That was the reason I choose them over the Hard maple, total wood cost for this workbench is 400$. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
@@TheWoodCrafter1 Ahhhhhh. I was just trying to find out how you were acquiring these presumably costly wood species. I didn't know if it was due to close proximity, or if you were just purchasing the wood and having it shipped at a premium. We're I am, if I just want to go out to the woods and find wood to turn my bowls, vases, etc, it's going to be oak 95% of the time. Also some dogwood, walnut and pecan here and there. I'd love to be able to purchase blanks of some of the wonderful exotics from Central and South America and Africa, but they are quite costly.

Actually we have Oak in Jordan, but you don’t need to touch that 🙂 it is not allowed to cut these trees, but you can buy lumber from the lumber yard, it is still relatively expensive but affordable, and maybe because Jordan is approximately close to Europe you can find beechwood cheaper than other wood species, I prefer walnut, cherry and maple but they are not cheap, so I keep them for smaller projects. 🤝

Great saw, excellent accuracy, super clean-cut, love the soft start, very powerful also it is made in the UK, dust collection is normal, I use a vacuum and a dust mask, or I will end up breathing dust 😊 if I forgot any of them.

Yes, it's very unsafe to wear gloves or any jewelry while running any type of machinery.

@@TheWoodCrafter1 about 30 seconds in you are jointing some wood. Your jointer has the big arm contraption on it. That’s what I’m referring to.

Great saw, excellent accuracy, super clean-cut, love the soft start, very powerful also it is made in the UK, dust collection is normal,
I use a vacuum and a dust mask, or I will end up breathing dust 😊 if I forgot any of them.
