- Amid demands from the opposition and some NDA allies for a review of the Agnipath scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday mounted a strong defence of the military recruitment policy, saying it aimed to rejuvenate the armed forces and keep them continuously fit for war. The Congress, however, stuck to its demand of scrapping the scheme introduced in 2022.

This scheme is fine in countries with less population, but it may not be applicable to countries like India. The scheme could be studied with some experts who don't have conflicts of interests.

This is an era of technology so there has to be a good mix of technology savvy and physically fit new blood. Yes the schemes can always be improved further by giving them at least 15 lakh and some land and loans for starting small scale industry or horticulture to settle in border areas to those who are interested.
