You was very very close to show us the Testing site it works. Yes you created a new site... but in my case.. the directory is empty... and of course when I click in "dashboard" i receive ERROR 404. Because there is no files. Should I install WP from Cpanel in the subdomain?

First, great presentation. Although I have some comments: 1- You don't have to download WP, you can just install it directly from cPanel through Bluehost itself, or using Softaculous. 2- If you've had installed WP automatically, you could have just checked the Multisite option, without having to add the code. 3- When you want to display .htaccess, you don't have to close the File Manager and open it again, just click on Settings at the top left corner. 4- When installing, you don't have to enter the database info at the code level, once you've uploaded WP, just go to the install and it will ask you for that information on the screen, then automatically rename the sample wp-config file. I hope this helps.

A quick help needed, I have a main wordpress site but its not woocommerce compatible, so rather than hacking it to declare woocommerce I want to install another theme that is ecommerce based on a sub directory like domain.com/store, the homepage and contact will go back to the main site. Do you think I should install a new instance of wordpress on a sub directory or I should use wpmu model? I appreciate your advice

Hello Bjorn, Great video. I just converted my single site to a multisite, with help from Bluehost tech support. You say the multisite code (define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true );) should be inserted in wp-config.php before “That’s all. Stop editing!” But Bluehost tech inserted it at the very end of wp-config.php, following other “define” lines of code. Does it make any difference, please?

Hi Anuj, If you are selling easy WordPress site creation then a multisite is a good way to go. Check out WPMUDEV for their multisite plugins and add-ons. I've been a WP user for years, but just starting to mess around with multisite. The one thing you did not do was click on the actual test site you set up to show us that it's working. My current issue is when I create site with subdomain, it's not installing any files so I have an empty directory. I'm missing something, but not sure what it is at the moment.
I’m surprised at the amount info you left out relating to multisite. Plus you added potential conflicting options with additional plug-ins that require additional limits for functionality.

Hi Ereny, I'm not sure that you can create a multisite as a subdomain of your primary domain because then you would have subdomains of subdomains. I've never tried it, but I don't think it's possible. Also, new to WordPress is that you don't need a domain mapping plugin anymore, domain mapping is built right into WordPress. Great only could install subdomain (option) since my site was already setup. But I wanted that anyway. One thing about the wpmudev - plugins yes they are great however they business model is to tie you into a membership and their plugins will start conflicting with more lightweight but free options
Hi Kenneth, yes, they can be installed locally, then transferred. For my local sites I use local by flywheel (tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/nVi13qWdcvE/v-deo.html ). When you create a new local site using that app, it asks if you want it to be a multisite. It's much easier with that app compared to doing it manually. I hope that helps and thanks for watching! This video is good, But when I try to build a multisite in hostgator, it works most steps but failed to register a multisite wordpress installation. I mean after I setup the file and the database, I run my website on chrome, the wordpress installation page doesn't show up. I need to sell tickets and other products from an events calendar and each individual client has to have their own admin access without messing up my own admin area and them being able to see everyone elses ticketed events. Hi Ona, It could be due to a permalinks issue. Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. Then test again. You may also have to clear your browser cache. Let me know if that works.

Hi Ona, Everything I show in the tutorial is everything I did to make it work. You should only need to add your domain name to your hosting account. Then multisite setup should create the subdomain a or subdirectories for each site, whichever one you chose. Have you tried the fixes for the 500 internal server errors I show in this tutorial: m.ua-cam.com/video/OhWUvQU2diU/v-deo.html If those don't work I would contact your hosting support staff. It wouldn't be ideal for handing for handing over to an IT department because they would probably want 100% control over the platform which multisite wouldn't allow. If you know the site will be handed over I would build it with an individual WordPress install. With a multisite you're essentially providing "managed WordPress sites". How much management can vary from very little to a lot, but you, as the network owner, essentially become the website IT department for the business's website. This is why you can charge a monthly retainer for the site.
+Indes Procom Depends on the client, if they want full control in their servers then multidirectional is never the solution. If they are happy with you managing the site then you can create and keep the site on a multi site network.

I have two website say A.com and B.com where both are sharing same webspace. Both Website are wordpress installed having woocommerce Plugin. can we use the same database. Say Like A.com is updating data in woocommerce plugin and B.com can also access the updated data.
Hi Phungkha, If you will be updating A.com with the new content and all that data is then pushed to B.com AND you will not be updating data on B.com (just pulling it from A.com) then you can probably try this: feedwordpress.radgeek.com/ I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty interesting. It will allow both sites to run different themes and different plugins. You can theoretically have two sites linked to the same database by simply having the sites on the same shared hosting and connecting to the same database via the wp-config.php file. But then the two sites will always be exact replicas. Same themes, same plugins, same content, same everything. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
It's always the same... all guides finished here... BUT when you try to enter dashboard you will get nothing... just an 404 page Not Found The requested URL /wp-admin/ was not found on this server. , so should I install worldpress again into the subdirectory? or what? because after that plugins not work for the "subdomain" website... and i dont understand why... and themes.. and you cant duplicate anything.. it all looks like that one important point is missing... but i cant find out which one...
Hi Shigeo, that issue is one of two things. 1. It can take a couple hours for the host's DNS to setup the subdomain. 2. You may need to save your Permalinks in the main dashboard. Just go to Settings > Permalinks and click 'Save'. That often solves this issue. I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Question: I set up my multisite as in your video. And it looks like it worked, however, there is nothing in my subdomains. I mean no site or anything just a title. Is it possible that the code needed to be installed in the root folder fils and not in the public folder files?
Is there a "My Sites" option in the top admin nav (top left) when you're logged in? If so, can you hover over it, then choose Network Admin then click on Sites? Or are those options not there?
I found out whats wrong since I had already installed the WP site and changed it to a multi site I needed to add the wildcard function for subdomains. It all should work now

Hi Dimitri, Sorry for the delay in responding. I haven't encountered that problem before. My first instinct is to delete the site and start over. I did a little Googling and didn't find much besides a website called CodeCave that references a nulled plugin. I would never recommend using a nulled plugin, but if you're adventurous you could give it a try. Sorry I can't be of more help!
Hi, thank you getting back to me. No worries for the late reply. I was able to "reset" the whole process and started over. I finally figure out why is this happening to me and I will give you an idea for your next video....it's because the site I'm trying to add, are already done with single wp install. So you may do a tutorial, how to convert two wp single install sites, to one, by creating a WPMU and migrating the second one into the WPMU. I'm still facing couple problems though. Hey Dimitri, the super admin can sign into any site on the multisite install and have access to the My Sites menu to access the other sites. Regular site admins can only sign into the site they have access to. Does that help at all?
@@wplearninglab , Single sign-on I mean to sign in in one of the domains under the multisite and to move to another domain under the "My Sites" menu, without sign-in again, since it's working like network. I'm not able to find anything about it other than an old post on the wpmudev.com site, which they mention that the wpmu should handle automaticaly the single sign-on feature. They also mention couple plugins but are not supported any more for 2-3 years, which give's me the impression that the wordpress it self has this feature it self.

Hi Kyle, If the super admin installs a plugin it cannot be uninstalled from the child sites. But it can be deactivated, which you may not want. Is there a way we can allow access of specific theme to specific site. Lets say I have three websites(subdomains) in multisite installation and I want to give access of Theme1 to one site, Theme2 to second site so on and so forth. This way they will not have same themes. Is that possible? If yes, how? Do we need any plugin for that?
Hi Hiren, Any theme that you activate in the Super Admin will be available in all the sub-sites. So, you can activate Theme1, Theme2 and Theme3 in the Super Admin and then choose the appropriate theme in the sub-site. That way they will all be different. On the other hand, if you want the sub-sites to have access to only the one theme that is for them you will need to do something else. I found this plugin on WPMUDEV.com: premium.wpmudev.org/project/pro-sites/. It sounds like it may be able to limit which themes sites on the network have access to. How to get around the theme licensing issue that only allow a theme to be installed on only one wordpress site as with this we allow access to the theme on every site we will add in the network please let me know
Hi Anuj, You can often buy a developer license that you can use on all sites that you work on. Here's something many people don't know. If a theme seller has an authentication process then there is no way around a "theme licensing" issue unless you buy a developer license.. If they do not have an authentication process, then technically you can install a theme as often as you want. Somewhere in the WordPress terms it says that if a theme uses any WordPress hooks (which every theme does) then that theme is GPL 2 which means open source. You'll have to look up that piece in the WordPress terms, I don't know where it is off-hand.

Hi Blink, I know you said you've tried using a multi-site network, but that does sound like the best option for you. Normally, when you activate a plugin on the main site you "network activate" it meaning that the all the subsites have access to that plugin. The plugin is not automatically activated on each site though. You have to go into each one and activate the plugin. Also, not all plugins are multi-site compatible so it may not work. There is no other "easy" way to create multiple sites that run on the same database but contain different posts. You would likely have to custom code a solution and it would be messy. I would try the multisite again.
What if I want to sell 100 websites. Can I have a multisite and allow my clients to loggin to their respective site with their having their own domain name? You mentioned that they won't see the subdomain
Hi Germán, you can sell any number of websites and as long as the clients have their custom domains mapped to them they won't see the subdomain of the main domain. They will be able to log in through TheirDomain.com/wp-login.php or TheirDomain.com/wp-admin

I didn't know that with a self hosting WordPress.org I can give access to my clients where they will have theirdomains.com while I will be managing the multisite. +Germán Bobadilla It's very handy. On Wordpress.con you can have your own domain too, not just the subdomain. You have to pay them for that ability. I'm not affiliated with these guys, but they're awesome. Hey, I have a question for you. I do same process for creating the subdomain. At last I choose existing database who are running for main domain. I give same database name but create another user inside the existing database. Now I am getting error The blank page is displayed. So how to resolve this problem? Can you create same video but existing database. Please don't create new database.

I did everything like you did, created a multisite on WordPress, selected option for the subdomain on WordPress, selected Sites/Add New then created a new website and when I try to visit it I get This site can’t be reached. Is there something else that should be done?
Hi Sanjay, Can you try this? Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. Let me know if that works. You may also need to clear your cache or check in a different browser.
If a person already has html websites and ONLY wants to add a wordpress Blog page named "Blog" to various sites which will be controlled by 1 Wordpress account... Any idea how this would be done?
Hi Ivan, To have a WordPress "blog page" you need to install WordPress and just use the blog functionality. If you install WP in a sub-directory called 'blog' it should work just fine. You can do the same on all your sites that you want a blog on. But they are all separate WordPress installation, each with their own log in. You can control all those sites using a plugin called MainWP (walkthrough of it here: ua-cam.com/video/KAaAxUiTA_c/v-deo.html ). So, in summary, you can install WP on all sites that you want a blog on. Then use a central control plugin like MainWP to control all of them from one place. You was very very close to show us the Testing site it works. Yes you created a new site... but in my case.. the directory is empty... and of course when I click in "dashboard" i receive ERROR 404. Because there is no files. Should I install WP from Cpanel in the subdomain?

First, great presentation. Although I have some comments:
1- You don't have to download WP, you can just install it directly from cPanel through Bluehost itself, or using Softaculous.
2- If you've had installed WP automatically, you could have just checked the Multisite option, without having to add the code.
3- When you want to display .htaccess, you don't have to close the File Manager and open it again, just click on Settings at the top left corner.
4- When installing, you don't have to enter the database info at the code level, once you've uploaded WP, just go to the install and it will ask you for that information on the screen, then automatically rename the sample wp-config file.

A quick help needed, I have a main wordpress site but its not woocommerce compatible, so rather than hacking it to declare woocommerce I want to install another theme that is ecommerce based on a sub directory like domain.com/store, the homepage and contact will go back to the main site. Only if you think you'll be adding a bunch more sites I would use WPMU.

Hello Bjorn, Great video. I just converted my single site to a multisite, with help from Bluehost tech support.
You say the multisite code (define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true );) should be inserted in wp-config.php before “That’s all. Stop editing!”
But Bluehost tech inserted it at the very end of wp-config.php, following other “define” lines of code.
Does it make any difference, please?

If you are selling easy WordPress site creation then a multisite is a good way to go. Check out WPMUDEV for their multisite plugins and add-ons.
If you want to sell hosting then a hosting reseller account is better. Nearly all hosts have a reseller option.

I've been a WP user for years, but just starting to mess around with multisite. The one thing you did not do was click on the actual test site you set up to show us that it's working. My current issue is when I create site with subdomain, it's not installing any files so I have an empty directory. I'm missing something, but not sure what it is at the moment.

I'm not sure that you can create a multisite as a subdomain of your primary domain because then you would have subdomains of subdomains. I've never tried it, but I don't think it's possible.
Also, new to WordPress is that you don't need a domain mapping plugin anymore, domain mapping is built right into WordPress. I'm in the process of creating a tutorial for it, but until then you can check out this help page on it: codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Multisite_Domain_Mapping

Great only could install subdomain (option) since my site was already setup. But I wanted that anyway. One thing about the wpmudev - plugins yes they are great however they business model is to tie you into a membership and their plugins will start conflicting with more lightweight but free options

Hi Kenneth, yes, they can be installed locally, then transferred.
For my local sites I use local by flywheel (tutorial here: ua-cam.com/video/nVi13qWdcvE/v-deo.html ).
When you create a new local site using that app, it asks if you want it to be a multisite.
It's much easier with that app compared to doing it manually.

This video is good, But when I try to build a multisite in hostgator, it works most steps but failed to register a multisite wordpress installation. I mean after I setup the file and the database, I run my website on chrome, the wordpress installation page doesn't show up. Hi Nash, yes, you can turn an existing site into a WP multisite.
But make sure you back up all the site files and database on your existing site before you proceed.

Ok, great videos. I am finding everything you are doing very helpful. I am not 100% where to take it from here though. I need to sell tickets and other products from an events calendar and each individual client has to have their own admin access without messing up my own admin area and them being able to see everyone elses ticketed events. It could be due to a permalinks issue. Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. Then test again.
You may also have to clear your browser cache.

Everything I show in the tutorial is everything I did to make it work.
You should only need to add your domain name to your hosting account. Then multisite setup should create the subdomain a or subdirectories for each site, whichever one you chose.
Have you tried the fixes for the 500 internal server errors I show in this tutorial: m.ua-cam.com/video/OhWUvQU2diU/v-deo.html
If those don't work I would contact your hosting support staff. They may some better insight into their server configuration.

Mi problema es que el plugin solo está hecho para administrar una sola empresa y solo se pueden registrar trabajadores, pero al panel del plugin solo puede acceder un usuario que es el de la empresa. Mi idea, es que cualquier empresa que lo desee, pueda registrarse en mi web y tener su propio panel para administrar ellos a sus empleados y clientes. El plugin no me permite hacer eso, y la única solución que veo es esta.
Pero mi idea, es que las emprendas entren a mi web, se registren y automáticamente tengan ya su perfil y panel de administración, no quiero tener que ir creándolo yo desde WordPress, si lo que quiero que se registren y ya accedan a su propio panel del plugin.
Como podría hacer esto? Con lo del multi siteneso no puedo hacerlo verdad? Tendría que ir creando los subdominios yo no?

Great idea! But what happens when your client requires you to handover the admin/back end of their website to IT department or another company?
It wouldn't be ideal for handing for handing over to an IT department because they would probably want 100% control over the platform which multisite wouldn't allow. If you know the site will be handed over I would build it with an individual WordPress install.
With a multisite you're essentially providing "managed WordPress sites". How much management can vary from very little to a lot, but you, as the network owner, essentially become the website IT department for the business's website. This is why you can charge a monthly retainer for the site.
Is it therefore ideal to install individual WordPress accounts and then later manage all under your WordPress Multisite Network?
+Indes Procom Depends on the client, if they want full control in their servers then multidirectional is never the solution.
If they are happy with you managing the site then you can create and keep the site on a multi site network.

I have two website say A.com and B.com where both are sharing same webspace. Both Website are wordpress installed having woocommerce Plugin. can we use the same database. Say Like A.com is updating data in woocommerce plugin and B.com can also access the updated data.

If you will be updating A.com with the new content and all that data is then pushed to B.com AND you will not be updating data on B.com (just pulling it from A.com) then you can probably try this: feedwordpress.radgeek.com/
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks pretty interesting. It will allow both sites to run different themes and different plugins.
You can theoretically have two sites linked to the same database by simply having the sites on the same shared hosting and connecting to the same database via the wp-config.php file. But then the two sites will always be exact replicas. Same themes, same plugins, same content, same everything.

It's always the same... all guides finished here... BUT when you try to enter dashboard you will get nothing... just an 404 page Not Found

Hi Shigeo, that issue is one of two things.
1. It can take a couple hours for the host's DNS to setup the subdomain.
2. You may need to save your Permalinks in the main dashboard. Just go to Settings > Permalinks and click 'Save'. That often solves this issue.

Is there a "My Sites" option in the top admin nav (top left) when you're logged in? If so, can you hover over it, then choose Network Admin then click on Sites? Or are those options not there?

I found out whats wrong since I had already installed the WP site and changed it to a multi site I needed to add the wildcard function for subdomains. It all should work now

I haven't encountered that problem before. My first instinct is to delete the site and start over.
I did a little Googling and didn't find much besides a website called CodeCave that references a nulled plugin. I would never recommend using a nulled plugin, but if you're adventurous you could give it a try.

Hi, thank you getting back to me. No worries for the late reply. I was able to "reset" the whole process and started over. I finally figure out why is this happening to me and I will give you an idea for your next video....it's because the site I'm trying to add, are already done with single wp install. So you may do a tutorial, how to convert two wp single install sites, to one, by creating a WPMU and migrating the second one into the WPMU.
I'm still facing couple problems though. Is there anyway to get in contact with you? If you willing to help me of course!

Hey Dimitri, the super admin can sign into any site on the multisite install and have access to the My Sites menu to access the other sites.
Regular site admins can only sign into the site they have access to.

@@wplearninglab , Single sign-on I mean to sign in in one of the domains under the multisite and to move to another domain under the "My Sites" menu, without sign-in again, since it's working like network. I'm not able to find anything about it other than an old post on the wpmudev.com site, which they mention that the wpmu should handle automaticaly the single sign-on feature. They also mention couple plugins but are not supported any more for 2-3 years, which give's me the impression that the wordpress it self has this feature it self.

If the super admin installs a plugin it cannot be uninstalled from the child sites. But it can be deactivated, which you may not want.
You should also check out WPMUDEV, they have loads of multisite plugins, but they are all premium: premium.wpmudev.org/multisite/

Is there a way we can allow access of specific theme to specific site. Lets say I have three websites(subdomains) in multisite installation and I want to give access of Theme1 to one site, Theme2 to second site so on and so forth. This way they will not have same themes. Is that possible? If yes, how? Do we need any plugin for that?

Any theme that you activate in the Super Admin will be available in all the sub-sites. So, you can activate Theme1, Theme2 and Theme3 in the Super Admin and then choose the appropriate theme in the sub-site. That way they will all be different.
On the other hand, if you want the sub-sites to have access to only the one theme that is for them you will need to do something else. I found this plugin on WPMUDEV.com: premium.wpmudev.org/project/pro-sites/. It sounds like it may be able to limit which themes sites on the network have access to. I've never tried that plugin, so I'm not sure.

You can often buy a developer license that you can use on all sites that you work on.
Here's something many people don't know.
If a theme seller has an authentication process then there is no way around a "theme licensing" issue unless you buy a developer license..
If they do not have an authentication process, then technically you can install a theme as often as you want. Somewhere in the WordPress terms it says that if a theme uses any WordPress hooks (which every theme does) then that theme is GPL 2 which means open source. You'll have to look up that piece in the WordPress terms, I don't know where it is off-hand.

I know you said you've tried using a multi-site network, but that does sound like the best option for you.
Normally, when you activate a plugin on the main site you "network activate" it meaning that the all the subsites have access to that plugin. The plugin is not automatically activated on each site though.
You have to go into each one and activate the plugin.
Also, not all plugins are multi-site compatible so it may not work.
There is no other "easy" way to create multiple sites that run on the same database but contain different posts. You would likely have to custom code a solution and it would be messy.
I would try the multisite again.

Hi Germán, you can sell any number of websites and as long as the clients have their custom domains mapped to them they won't see the subdomain of the main domain. They will be able to log in through TheirDomain.com/wp-login.php or TheirDomain.com/wp-admin

I didn't know that with a self hosting WordPress.org I can give access to my clients where they will have theirdomains.com while I will be managing the multisite. This is good so I don't update every single time a theme or dozens of plugins.

+Germán Bobadilla It's very handy. On Wordpress.con you can have your own domain too, not just the subdomain. You have to pay them for that ability.

Also, double check that you updated the wp-config.php and .htaccess properly and added the sunrise.php file to the correct location.

Can you try this? Go to Settings then Permalinks. Scroll to the bottom of the Permalinks page without making any changes and click on Save. Let me know if that works.
You may also need to clear your cache or check in a different browser.

If a person already has html websites and ONLY wants to add a wordpress Blog page named "Blog" to various sites which will be controlled by 1 Wordpress account... Any idea how this would be done?

To have a WordPress "blog page" you need to install WordPress and just use the blog functionality. If you install WP in a sub-directory called 'blog' it should work just fine.
You can do the same on all your sites that you want a blog on.
But they are all separate WordPress installation, each with their own log in.
You can control all those sites using a plugin called MainWP (walkthrough of it here: ua-cam.com/video/KAaAxUiTA_c/v-deo.html ).
So, in summary, you can install WP on all sites that you want a blog on. Then use a central control plugin like MainWP to control all of them from one place.
