Douglas County, Colorado - Bodycam video from a sheriff's deputy caught his rescue of a pet dog from a burning vehicle in Colorado. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office released the video which took place on January 22, 2022. Deputy Michael Gregorek is shown pulling up to a distressed man and an SUV with smoke billowing from it. The man screamed that his dog was trapped inside the fiery vehicle. Without hesitation, Deputy Gregorek whipped out his retractable baton and smashed a passenger window and the back window. Seconds later the dog, named Hank, comes up to the back window and the owner tries to pull him out but is overwhelmed by the black smoke pouring out of the car. Gregorek reaches in and with much effort pulls Hank free. He runs over to a patch of snow with Hank in his arms and drops Hank in it as he proceeds to cough intensely from the smoke he has just breathed in. A veterinarian who lives in the neighborhood checked the dog out, and Hank appeared uninjured. It didn’t take long for him to be running around in the snow again.

I just wanted to know the dog was alright 😢
Thank you, officers
I don’t mean to be rude, but all your description said is what we already watched in the video. What questions did your description answer?
Like how is a car on fire in the street with a dog in it???????????
@@waffle_chair9269that's what I asked. How did the fire start and why was the dog locked inside?
To the officer who saved this dog, good on you for going out of your way to save an important member of someone's family. If you're ever near bowling Green Ohio, I owe you a beer sir.
Now THAT'S protecting and serving. Well done, officer👍
Fr
What actually happened did the vehicle just catch on fire or something but so glad dog and owner are alright and good the officer was there to help ❤
It's officers like these that deserve to be in policing and not power-hungry ones.
@@user-gf8dk3ky3rWow!!! That's awesome
@@TheRealPixeled Yes, well said from you and the OP. This is the kind of officer who should run the department. I'd be interested to see how he handles a high stakes and high pressure situation. Not that I wish he is ever in that situation, god willing he never has to be, but I have a feeling he's the man you'd want there.
Officer sir you are a fucking bad ass!!

I hope people appreciate how remarkable this officer actually is. First, look how fast he beelines it when he hears “dog in the car.” He pops two windows inside of about 20 seconds and barely waits for the glass to come down. Those are the kind of reflexes I want when my loved ones are in danger. Second, Hank’s a big, disoriented dog who might not even be friendly, for all the officer knows. But the officer still bear-hugs him out of there with zero hesitation. That’s a compassionately-calculated risk, which also happens to be what bravery looks like, to me. Well done, sir.
Dogs are so incredibly resilient 😭😭 buddy was wagging his tail straight out a traumatic experience. This cop and owner are wonderful ♥️
That can be a self soothing thing just as a cat purring is. They don't always mean happy
@@cecegirl4327no; dogs don’t wag their tail out of self soothing, they tuck it between their legs.
@@cecegirl4327 it doesn't always mean happy, you're right, but it's not self soothing.
Tail wagging means that they're excited, and they can be excited because they really want to bite you for example but in this case, he was just genuinely happy to see his owner and a new friend.. ❤
@@florianefoxI also have read and was told by my cousin who’s a dog trainer that some dogs just wag their tail when they’re just focused. If you give a dog a command for example like telling them to sit some dogs like my own start wagging their tail because they’re focused on said command.
Para el policía si, pero para el dueño no lo creo dejar a su perro en el auto que irresponsabilidad
That man cared so much for Hank 😢 you can hear it in his voice cracking 😢❤
Yea so much that he sat there for at least 5 minutes before 911 arrivrd while his dog inhaled all those toxic fumes. What was he doing all that time? Panicking like a little girl
Yeah, that is why Hank was in a closed car in the first place, with the windows not even open a crack
I'd like to know how the fire started in the first place. And I'm sorry but if that were my dog I'd have gotten him out way, way before the police arrived, the guy was just running around crying and doing nothing. I don't care if I had to burn myself or whatever but I sure as hell wouldn't be waiting for the police to save my dog.
@@LadyLove2668the rear passenger window was open a few inches. Enough that he could have put his arm in and unlocked it manually.
@@thishandleisnotavailable very strange situation. If I don't leave my kids in the car, I won't leave my dog in the car either.
The way that officer did not hesitate to break the windows as soon as her heard my dog is in the car.
If the owner and cop were coughing that much from inhalation of that black smoke, while standing outside, I can't imagine how the dog must feel being locked inside for all that time.
Those licks at the end. The dog knew who his saviour was
I dont know ur name officer, bot thank you for the help and for saving the dog! That is another proof that not all heroes wear capes 😊
Deputy Michael Gregorek. Look under the title for "more". Tap that and you will get more information about the event.
the way that man was panicking for his dog was so heartbreaking ! ...we can hear in his voice how much he cares and love his dog ....and thanks to the officer that saved Hank !
Yes, he loved the dog so much, he didn’t attempt to save the dog himself and waited for the polic to come along 🫠
I had to say goodbye to my dog 3 weeks ago yesterday and now feel so lost without him. This video warms my heart that the pooch was saved.
I'm so sorry about your loss, I'm glad this video was able to help you in some way I wish you nothing but good for you future 🙏
When I lost my old boy at 12 years old I nearly fell apart (I had adopted him at 6 months old when his previous owner married someone with an ornery jack russell). It does eventually get easier though.
Desde la distancia...Un fuerte abrazo para ti y que Dios mitigue tu dolor...tu angelito esta con el ahora ,en paz
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss sweet dog. It's one of the hardest things I ever had to do. It hurts in a whole different way than when you lose a person that's close. But now they are no longer sick or in pain. Shit all our pets that have crossed the rainbow bridge are probably having a good ol time just running, playing and they all get along. They are just waiting for us. Sending you warm healing hugs. It was 4 yrs ago for me and still it hurts.
@@lisad.8466 are you kidding, losing a dog that has been family for a dozen or more years is every bit as devastating as losing a child, maybe more so
Deputy Gregorek is a solid example of what it means to protect and serve ❤️ I can’t imagine the fear and relief the owner must’ve felt!
These police officers were very brave as was the owner, thanks to you all for saving this precious dog ❤️ 🐕 ❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️🐕❤️

They were coughing from breathing in the smoke for a few seconds. I hope the dog was checked out by a vet. Poor little guy…

Thankyou officer u are truly incredible
Such a brave officer and caring human being. Thank you, officer, for your service, and thank you to all policemen/women and first responders that serve our country everday and risk their own lives to keep us safe and rescue when need be. ❤❤❤❤
I’m so thankful to that officer that man got to still be with his dog. The man was overcome by panic and the officer pulled Dog out. Anyone’s car can catch on for any reason if the car malfunctions. I hope that it wasn’t the owners fault but even if so it would be hard to live with knowing your dog could have died! I’m so happy that his dog was saved…
Wow, just wow! Thank you so much officer for acting so quickly w/o hesitation & saving that poor dog! And wonderful owner for caring so much!!
But what happened... why was the car smoking with a dog in it to begin with??? 😢
Am just as curious
So I only got this from a comment under the OG post on Facebook. They said the dogs owner was outside the house working on it and his dog was in the truck. An electric fire started under the dash and the locks shorted out because of the fire so the doors would not unlock.
If anyone cares enough to look for it the link to the newspaper article is in the description and the article links to the Facebook post.
@banditnmbr087 Thank you much appreciated ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 I'm so relieved the quick thinking police rescued this beautiful dog 🐕 ❤️ shame about the owners truck, probably the families bread and butter, but at least the family dog was saved ❤️ 💙 💜 💖
Why the heck did he leave his dog in his truck if he’s not in it? Sheesh poor dog

My dude you’re a wonderful human being. You are that hero.
I would’ve liked to of known how there was a fire inside the car. Why couldn’t he open a door? Was amazing that dog didn’t even bark. He didn’t even look freaked. He was almost like, what’s the fuss?
Sometimes the engine heats up so much and instead of blowing smoke outside, it does so inside. At least that’s what happened to us once. It was terrifying and my baby sibling was in the back seat. Thankfully we had people help get him out.
About the car being locked, I don’t know. Maybe with the smoke the car fob wasn’t working anymore.
@@hajarmdn4883thanks, makes sense.
Go thru the comments, you find out all about it..can't copy comments on YT, and it's too long recall it all . But the guy was working on the vehicle, something happened, causing an electrical fire, locking all the doors. A window was down, for the pup, but apparently he wasn't near it or something..Anyway. that's that gist of it..grateful they are all safe!❤
@@hajarmdn4883 read my comment...
Glad everything was OK with your sibling...❤
@@59Alaskan thanks. I know it can happen. I jumpstarted my car once ; when I got out to disconnect the cables, the door closed, and they all locked, so my car was running with the key and my purse with the extra key locked inside the car. I certainly wasn’t happy about it, but I would’ve been terrified if there had been the living creature inside. I would’ve looked for a way to break the glass in that case, but it’s hard. The tow truck company said it would take 45 minutes with the car running. Thankfully, a man who lived nearby, saw my predicament and saw that I had left one window down about half an inch. He was able to get in. Note to self: always roll down the window in such circumstances and take my purse if I get out of the car.
Well done abd and thank you - dogs are family and friends and I am so glad you helped as you did. I hope the lungs of all involved are ok.
Wow thank God for that officer bless his heart he had no hesitation to saving mans best Friend

No one asking why the dog was even locked in the car in the first place????
Someone commented that there was a link to this video on FB to a newspaper article, the man was working on the vehicle (maybe under it, or on the engine?) The electrical shorted out starting the fire and smoke and the locks all shorted and he couldn't get any of the doors open. His dog was in the vehicle while he was working on the car.
Thank you for your service, officer 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That officer is the biggest chad on the internet for sure
Thank God for officers . Great job officer for saving a dog ❤❤❤❤
Good job and thank Officer👍
👏👏 bravo! Sending much respect from England
Why did he had to wait for the cop to show up? He could’ve busted the window himself
I think he was in shock, what with his car on fire or badly smoking, and his dog stuck in the car, l think he couldn't think straight and was in a state of panic, thank goodness the police jumped into action and saved the man's dog ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I agree. The man was probably in shock.
Several years ago, I had seen a kid (teenager) running down the street yelling for someone to call 911 - when he got to where I was (2 houses down) my boss asked him what was wrong. The kid said his grandpa was sleeping and his house was on fire. Without a second thought, I took off running and spotted the house with the front door open and smoke billowing out and (out of habit?) I knocked twice and yelled "hello? Mr Kid's Grandpa? You're house is on fire, you need to wake up and get outside"
Eventually my boss (who had stayed behind with the kid to call the fire department) , came to the house and told me to get out because it was so hot in there.... you could literally see the flames pulsating over the walls and ceiling. We tried getting to the grandpa via his bedroom window (with the kids permission to bust out the window ) , but again to no avail.
In the end, yes, the grandpa was 100% fine - he had woken up while the kid had been in his own room playing video games or something & had left to run to the store real quick
Oh & for anyone wondering.... no, I'm not a emt, fire fighter, cop, or any type of first responder......my boss and I were remodeling the house, 2 houses down from the house that caught fire...
When the cop got there, he saw the man trying to break the window but didn’t have anything to do if with
So often I hear "it's just a dog, humans life is more important" I don't care u can love a dog as much as a human and just because he's a dog doesn't mean his life is less worth than yours, so many doggos help and save life's so we should return that favor
