Id recommend a bird to you but I have no idea your daily life, health, or age. I wouldn't recommend birds to anyone unhealthy very busy or older than middle age unless you get a bird around the same age as you. They end up loving their person, so much so when they die the bird will often get depressed and could potentially pass away itself.

I'm dog obsessed and not really a huge cat person but totally disagree. I can understand that cats have a more independent, sometimes moody and strong personality but they can be the most sweetest cuddlebugs IF you respect their boundaries. Everytime I visit my parents their cats always lovingly greet me. When they don't really interact, they just aren't in the mood for it and will let you know. I've never thought they look down upon people. Now with eachother on the other hand, they definitely assume the position as top cat with others who assume the same in a group.
