Shirley Temple was truly one of a kind. There will never be another child star or actory like her. Not only was she adorable and innocent, she gave happyness and hope to people. we will never see any ray of sunshine as bright as her!
the film was very much reflecting the situation during the civil war, AND it was shoot in times when segregation and racism was still very much common use. Bojangles,Hattie McDaniel, Sidney Poitier... it took great figures and great characters to "defeat" the sistem and introduce equal opportunities in cinema. what is utter racism to us, was very much the lifestile of then. it can hardly be blamed on anyone, for reflecting this in movies.
both Shirley (as she got older) and her parents were very very frustrated by these ridiculous scripts, which were basically repeated over and over. The studio was afraid to mess with success. It wasn't until Wee Willie Winkie that Shirley finally actually got a "real" story. As poor as the plots were, they were still enough to keep Shirley as the #1 box office draw for four years in a row.
@ashleyyycooper Ouch!! That had to be a dagger in their hearts!!! Great to see though you went the other way and saw A.A's aren't what, I'm carefully assuming, your parents think or thought A.A's were. :)
Your video is great and I've given you 5 stars. Please check out my latest clip of 1930's movie icon trading cards when you have time: Shirley Temple, Katharine Hepburn, Clark Gable, Joan Crawford, Ginger Rogers, Heather Angel, Greta Garbo...and lots more.

Gee I love these old movies.Too much violence and sex nowadays.
You know what though? I'll take the violence and sex over trying to say that black people should still be slaves and that they didn't want to be free.

isn't that the same man who plays her dad in the little princess?

my name is their help's name. 0__0
Surprised Abe would fall for this, what with his intercrural male interests.
