Hi dad
yoo
People born in 1996-1997 are the middle child watching their older and younger siblings fight while were in the corner eating glue
I’m a semi-older millennial (went to high school in the early 2000s). I’ve caught myself grumbling about Gen Z over the same crap for which Boomers used to criticize us. It gave me some healthy perspective to just relax and laugh.
I honestly agree with this so much. I have some gripes with Gen Z, but I have some gripes with *every* generation, including my own. I’m probably a just a little bit older than you, I skipped an early grade, and was in high school for the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Having close to a whole generation age gap between my sister and I, who has always been one of my best friends, I’ve been told I’m a “Millennial/Gen X Cusper” (sounds a bit too much like astrology to me) because I grew up with and loved a lot of the things that my sister did, and we came from a liberal hippie family that didn’t act like Boomers, and in fact thought most of them were assholes. I like my skinny jeans because they’re more comfortable to me. I don’t even have a hair part because I usually have bangs and like to tease my hair if I’m not wearing a wig. (80’s much?) None of that shit matters; just do you.
In my lines of work, I spend time and communicate with all sorts of people from other generations, and only two instances have really given me a slap back about Gen Z, because I’m not used to it, having two super sweet Gen Z nieces. One, while trying to give genuine constructive criticism to someone, which I realised later may have been a little harsh, someone else jumped all over me and told me that everything I said was untrue, to check my facts and get woke, other rude things, etc. Another time, I responded to a video essay that I thought was really well done, and again, someone other that the original creator was like “TLDR; 16-35 is f*cking old.” Which baffled me. Yes, I tend to leave longer comments, because I’m not going to bother with leaving a comment and not truly say what’s fully on my mind. But I never said anything about being old. I don’t feel old. I don’t think I’m old. No one looks at me and thinks I’m old - often people think I’m *part of* Gen Z, even though it isn’t my stage to stand on any more, it’s not my spotlight. I just stated that I related and appreciated what the person had discussed, even though I was a bit outside of the 16-35 year old audience he was directing his piece to. Both times I got kind of irritated but in the end, I was just like “Thanks, that doesn’t really hurt, if you’re hurting, I hope it’s not for long because this kind of thing isn’t worth it. Cheers.”
Even two years after the posting of this video, it still feels like any small step could add firepower to an unnecessary and really dumb war. In just a few years, more of us than ever will be working together and age won’t be anything but a number to yet another generation. It’s a part of the cycle. This comment is also really long. I want to say that I’m sorry, but I’m not. I’m a published writer and video game creator. I don’t have the guts to get behind a camera and have a UA-cam channel (and therefore, I commend anyone who does, that is not using their platform in a toxic way). My words and my art are what I’ve got to work with. No one has to read or engage with my comments if they don’t want to. But sometimes I think it’s nice to be able to tell someone, regardless of generation, what they did was great and not have to squeeze it into the character maximum of a Tweet. So, I’m going to live my life and do what I do, maintaining whatever cool I have left, and hope I still get the chance to meet cool new people, continue writing and illustrating, and taking things in stride, skinny jeans, skinny legs, and all. (No one worry or sound the alarm, that joke was for me; I love dad jokes *and* Tom Robbins.). 💖
@@user-fv9se5op4g So do I. I personally think it’s too early for the revival, as I’m still waiting for the 90’s revival to stick (which I’ve come to realize probably won’t ever happen, because those of us who lived though and loved the nineties will never truly let it go - sometimes I think I’m forever living in 1992 and I’m totally okay with that - people will be trying to pull the 90’s out of our cold, dead, hands), but the music of the early aughts, in particular, especially after 2002 was just amazing. I still listen to it often, and am always [probably a bit overly] excited when I hear it used in a film or series. It gives me a feeling of nostalgia that’s just a little bit different from the others, but I can’t seem to place my finger on why.
current gen z that was born in the early 2000s, yeah nothing changed lol. I've gotten annoyed by kids 6-7 years younger than me and I feel like a grumpy old man. trends go in and out and kids will always think adults are lame

Blaming millennials of being bad because of Mumford and Sons is unironically hilarious.

Oh hey there
Bruh I am EXACTLY 4 months older than this guy. I mean, not that anybody would care but it's funny how the numbers line up.
As a young millennial (1994), I’m old enough to relate to some parts of my generation, and young enough to relate to Gen Z. I’m also convinced 90’s kids are their own generation.
Also, down with the Boomers
Nah mid-late 90s and early 2000s babies are their own gen
You would classify as Zillenial if you wanted, although that defeats the point in the video.
I'm a Genx'er and it's wild to me watching this "Generation (xyz etc)" unfold over the past 40 freaking years. When what I think everyone's missing is that the original name was a derogatory term, it was meant to brand us, and the media onslaught was intense for our formative years. Just like you. That X a lot of my generation simply took as a badge of pride for whatever it is we were supposed to have done wrong. For life, basically disappear us from the table, and it did. It's wild to me that every generation is being named and shamed in the same way. It just serves to make us further atomize and disintegrate. Cue Robert Smith please.
This is literally when boomers were attacking millennials. You either die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain
they’re gonna fuel up on avocado toast and do the cinnamon challenge to prove a point to the youngins
Bomers still do that.
They just think everyone younger then them are millenials
Genz kids dont even need to live long enough
Exactly! Older people have complained about younger people since the dawn of time! Like in the 60s when the Silent Generation complained about young boomers being hippies or whatever
Gen x somehow just evaded all of it
It’s almost like the older you get, the less you’re able to relate to children.

As a Gen Z kid in middle school 10+ years ago, I remember disliking millennials & getting annoyed with being associated with them and wondering when the distinction between my generation and theirs would be more acknowledged lol. An easy way to think of it is a millennial is someone who can remember 9/11 and and life before the turn of the millenium (2000), and if you were a little kid at that time or younger and can't remember then you're gen Z. I think the only reason gen Z is getting more focus now is because all of gen z are young adults and teenagers and can actually make their own money and buy stuff now.
Politically Gen Z and millennials mostly agree, so the fighting is especially stupid. We're each other's biggest allies.
millennials pulling the “i’m older than you” card is so ironic given that’s what we hate the boomers for doing all the time
They've become what they hate the most 😔
@@-Oddity- my bad man next time I’ll try to be born earlier

If I ever head somebody gen z criticizing skinny jeans, my first response would be "you haven't seen shit until you've seen Tripp pants."
I’m Gen X & I loved this, you hit the nail on the head, on what it’s all about…
We’re all terrified of getting older, not being this, not being that & looking back & seeing a usually crappy past via rose tinted lenses & how wonderful it all seemed, all our lives have highs & lows, we wore the perfect dress, or we didn’t or listened to the best groups (GnR) etc etc etc
It’s all relative, every generation becomes the past, every single one of us does too, we’re all born, we all live, we all die, but the in between years are where we stamp our mark, & not because of the clothes we wear/wore or the films & music we liked, but the life we lived, in reality, not online, not on bloody Twitter or ticktock but in our actual lives with people we know & love & care for, the experiences we build with them, the actual tangible relationships & feelings, they don’t give a damn about what’s online, they care about the person sitting next to them holding their hand like they never want to let it go, the person cooking their dinner, making their breakfasts, it’s called REALITY
Life’s worth more than stupid internet banter & fights, I had someone really special pass away a year & a bit ago, she was the epitome of alive & not giving a sh*t what anyone else thought or said, she was beautiful & I’m not just saying that, she was a total blonde bombshell knockout stunning, she had a hard life, but didn’t let it get her down. I can’t help but think of what she’d say to such an utterly STUPID online trash talk, & laugh, because she’d of been doing just that, poking fun at them & laughing as though there was no tomorrow. Sadly for her that proved to be true, but wherever she is now, if she could watch this, she’d of thought the same damn thing.
It’s nearly Midnight NYE 2023, I’ve watched this channel since 9pm as it have me something to watch, oh yeah, & because your hilarious along with intelligent subjects

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. I was born early 1998 and have been trying to voice these exact things for so long. It's such a weird time to be born for us people specifically born between 1996-1998 because we aren't really considered either generation, or sort of considered both depending on who you ask, so it gives you this perspective like, oh, this is all totally bullshit and doesn't exist because I don't even belong in either category. I'm too young to remember one thing, too old to remember another thing, blah blah blah. I only have friends who are older than me so I generally relate to and have memories from millennial related things more, but thats aside the point. It all doesnt make sense, its making people feel badly for no reason, and basically is taking away from the fact that instead of gen z and millennial fighting and us in between generation being made to feel like we belong to neither and should feel like shit about when we were fucking born for no literally no reason, we should ALL be coming together and change the world for the better. It's all just distracting us from the power we could truly have if we came together to create this planet into something truly beautiful. But, no, instead I have to watch some sad woman in her early 30's sing about how she got mad about being dissed by a teenager and has no life. Sigh.
Psyop! Thanks for you organic journalism.❤😂❤

The younger generation will always think they're cooler than the older generation, and the older generation will always think they know better than the younger generation.
"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers"
- Kenneth John Freeman (1907) paraphrasing Hellenic attitudes towards children, 600-300 BCE
Can't relate from first hand experience. I remember kids my generation (same as uploader) used to look up to people in their 20s and sometimes even early 30s. Potentially xillennials and core millennials, I'm guessing? Barely knew anyone that genuinely thought our generation was somehow cooler than those generations of people. Many popular things in media were from the 90s in the 2000s so I grew up becoming influenced by it. Many kids used to pose as a 90s kid online and making their age older thinking it was the cool shit to do.
The boomers were not seen as cool. But that's probably because they were grumpy middle aged teachers' typical age.
And on and on until the end of time....
The worst thing is that both assertions are correct. Conundrum.
It’s part of the natural cycle of finding your identity when you’re a teen. Who am I, where do I stand etc. But a few of fellow millenials took it as a personal attack. Sigh
"Why do you care if a teen thinks you are cool"? Exactly

I hate both sides but the last lady’s argument is weird af “you can’t cancel eminem, he’s older than you!” I dont support cancel culture but is she saying we can only cancel people 22 and younger?
I think her point is "he's been here this long, can't get rid of him now." But like, that means nothing.
Also, he HAS been "canceled" many times ie by his many scandals and controversies like he's pretty problematic and we've been known since he jumped onto the scene lol
it's a damn joke anyway. no one's "cancelling" eminem and "cancel culture" is a fucking meme. literally, all it is is people calling out rich people, to almost universally zero effect because, surprise! *they're rich.* i'm so fucking over it dude.
People need to stop thinking that age = somebody's value as a person. Just cause somebody is older than me doesn't invalidate my opinion of them.
Christian moms tried 20 years ago. Now sheltered and spoiled kids are trying to do the same lmao
literal children: i dont like skinny jeans
grown ass adults: thats hurts my feelings

Well not all gen Zs are children lmao. But still dumb tho.
Wait, so what are they wearing after skinny jeans? Because I'm still wearing bootcut.
@@Cleighcade Facts, there is already a new generation younger than them. It’s called Gen Alpha and is expected to have 2 billion people by 2025

Exactly. All twelve people on an app who are invested in this are a global laughing stock.
Exactly I’m not a “Gen Z” lol fuck collectivism I’m a free thinking individual.
I’m gen z and I only see this “war” online. I’ve never heard ANYONE in person complain about millennials having side parts or skinny jeans or anything like that. I thought it was just Buzzfeed trying to create generational drama what with all the articles they’ve written about it. It’s all just really stupid.
I hate buzzfeed
Most likely.

what's getting me is im gen z but only by 2 years, so my hair parts and skinny jeans are "old" but.. im not? this has got to be a govt experiment bro
Gen Z thinks everything on the internet is real.. Millennials are master trolls.
As a 98’ thing. Thanks for bringing us up because I too, am so very confused.
I laughed like an underwater horse at the Kim Jong-un thing and gave myself a fright
I feel like a confused middle child. "Older" gen Z so I'm an adult and confused why grown ass adults are beefing with actual teenagers. Pathetic. I'm 99' so gen Z .
99 as well. They didn’t call us Gen z until we were already out of high school lol. But who even cares
Right? I think I'm a young millennial ('96) and this whole fight is so dumb
I'm 17 and same
Ya I'm not sure exactly where I fall but most people say I would be Gen Z . So I just go with that
I'm 2004, so I'm on the higher end, but I'm someone who stays off of TikTok and I didn't even know this was a thing. And now that I do, I wish that I didn't
i think, as part of gen z, it’s embarrassing for millennials to get to pissed off about what a teenager says, but it’s also weird for gen z to trash on 30 year old’s for what they did as kids
I completely agree. All of this is weird
Fortnite kids
@@TheLastMillennials not really? that’s mainly gen alpha which is considered by most to be 2012-present. most gen z-ers from 2000ish-2007 didn’t play fortnite too much
@@livispuzzled Gen Alpha are toddlers, most are not even born. Gen Z ends in 2015 but Bloomberg news said gen Z ends in 2016. Born after the year 2000 is considered part of iGeneration (aka Generation Z/FORTNITE KIDS). It is so-called due to the technology that existed during the time of their births: iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTunes, Wii, etc, and the way that they are used: individualized. Zoomers! tiktokers, fortnite kids, tide pod babies, jake paulers, logan paul kids and streamer twitch kids are those born between 2001-2009 and beyond. They all grew up on the same stuff. Also tbh, as a gen z I completely see most gen z that are trashing millennials are just doing it to egg them on because(let’s be honest) it kind of hilarious, and stupid, how angry millennials get over a bunch of teenagers on tic tok
it's cool to think that my mom is a millennial raising me, an early gen z guy. we grew apart but we agree on most things and never argue. we both graduated valedictorian so I guess that fueled our healthy relationship
As a millennial I freaking love Gen Z. They are like an all round better version of us. We got shafted by boomers at a young age we had bright hopes that we could change things and make a difference and yeah we did wanna fix climate change and the wealth gap and all that but somewhere along the way we gave up and became cynical cause all our hopes were ultimately beaten into submission.
Gen Z has picked up that torch and has not shown any signs of giving it up and that's fucking awesome.
TLDR, let's stop fighting with each other so we can unite against the real enemy: fucking boomers who ruined everything for us

“Gen Z wants to cancel Eminem” aka “Young people don’t like my favorite music growing up cause apparently they feel uncomfortable listening to Eminem rap about beating women”
This! When we as young people criticize someone for....let's say beating women or racism or what have you I don't know why random people feel personally attacked
Holy shit I feel this. My buddy had me listen to Kim, swearing it was good, and the whole song was yikes.
I have no idea whats happening, but Em weathered this exactly already from when he even started lol. People been protesting him since the beginning, so i dont know what my fellow millenials are afraid of exactly.
Not trying to start some dumb ass argument but Eminem wasn't glorifying beating women - which lines like "rap about beating women" makes it sound like
I thought it meant m&m's founder
Why does Eddy look like an English teacher but you see him at target instead of school
why does this make so much sense

This is a nightmare for me, seeing a teacher outside of school.
Sad but true
I’m so glad I don’t have tiktok, feel like I would just lose braincells
As somebody who's also around the same age as you (born in 97, not even a year younger) watching this culture war as somebody who's between generations is honestly pretty surreal.
The thing is though, Gen z wasn’t targeting millennials when they talk side parts and skinny jeans. They were talking about what’s in style and what’s not then millennials with 3 kids and a mortgage got upset
And honestly for the most part I’d say it’s funny to mindscrew some thirty year old who gets upset that skinny jeans aren’t exactly “trendy” anymore rather than worrying about raising their kids or something
Lmao millenials with mortgages, good one
man I wanna be a millennial with a mortgage so bad 😔😔😔
You know millennials with a mortgage?? Damn
Three kids and a mortgage 😂😂 how old do you think we are
i think i can speak for all of gen z that most of us didn’t care about what millennials were wearing
until that one persons tiktok song...
for real. I didn’t care UNTIL she made that cringey ass song, now I feel like I have to “defend” my side
Reminds me of the lady who did an anti-gen z cover of an eminem song to respond to people trying to cancel eminem. Like, nobody cared until you made yourself look like a giant dumbass that NEEDED to be mocked
Edit: watched through the rest of the video and THERE SHE IS
I think, like eddy said, its a small group of the older millennials and a small group of the younger zoomers making this a thing. Obviously there were some gen-z kids upset too as seen in their tik toks, so its not too one-sided, but i think its definitely a small minority of people in both groups that actually care. The Kim jong un line got me can’t even lie
Millennials grew up watching shows and movies where the protagonist either sings or dances to “stick it to the bully” so that’s the only way they know how to combat this

the millennials in these responses really think saying "you're young" is some sort of insult. obviously all of this is done by a small portion of both generations so it is probably less of a big deal than social media makes it seem, but it is definitely a bit frustrating to see generations arguing over the stupidest shit. and it is even more frustrating to see some millennials who were just as young not too long ago, dismissing zoomers because they are young now. like, when I was a kid, I fucking hated it when adults would do that shit to me, but it seems like some people my age have forgotten that feeling or decided that instead of ending the dumb cycle, it is their turn to be weird. anyway, if I ever make a parody to all star by smash mouth where I insult gen z, you all know what to do with me.
That's way too much text so imma just like and assume you're right
tldr: millennials that we’re treated like shit by older generations because they were younger have seemingly forgot how it felt to be belittled for just being young and are continuing the cycle by insulting gen z by saying they’re young
