For me, it's hard to sit through 2-3 hours of rich privileged people patting each other on the back for a rigged contest while I'm struggling to make ends meet. It just doesn't feel good.
Some actually worked really hard and also struggled to make ends meet like Ke Hue Quran. I think also these shows can bring a lot of attention towards those who are actually interested into the film and or theater business such as myself. Also these awards shows are also very important to what is reflected upon our modern society, such as representation often being overlooked and award shows finally giving awards to underrated or under appreciated artists. I absolutely agree tho, so much can be corrupted and not really true to what these award shows should really hold to as their morals. And even the rich and privileged again being recognized as rich and privileged. Award shows have come a long way and maybe haven’t changed for the better. TLDR; I agree but award shows like these can hold my interest if it’s like an underdog type of story winning an award.
There have been multiple stories of writers and even actors walking up to receive their awards in $8 bow ties and shoes they bought off of Amazon because they were dead broke. The elites don't always equate to who's famous, contrary to popular belief.
When music and Emily in paris were nominated for golden globes I just realized that they clearly don’t know what quality is. So I’ve decided they don’t matter anymore.
Even fan voted award shows like the Teen Choice Awards have disclaimers that the producers can choose the winner regardless of who actually got the most votes.
my favorite award shows are the independent film awards because you just have a bunch of amazing indie artists in a room together, they all know people are less interested in it, and so theyre all much more loose and easy going. also the hosts are always iconic
if we’re gonna slime award winners from now on, they are still required to wear their overpriced gowns and suits it’s not like they’re gonna wear em again anyway
I mean, that sounds like a good idea in theory, but, in reality, that would be wasting the efforts of the designers who probably spent months or even an year to prepare those gowns (I'm only talking about the gowns since suits usually aren't as hard to produce unless its something like what lil nas x or tyler would wear). Even if they won't wear them again, ruining a intricately made gown that was painstakingly made like its nothing can definitely hurt the designers personally because they'll feel like their efforts were for nothing. Designers like seeing their clothes out and about for people to see even if it is just a one-wear gown and trust me, designers want the outfits they make for these celebs to stay perfect the entire presentation/event. Like, imagine if you make something, like a painting or food, and someone just comes and ruins it, demolishing your hard work along with it. At least for the kids choice awards, the celebs there wear outfits that usually aren't that fancy because they know they're gonna get slimed, but for a prestigious event like the emmys or oscars, that ain't gonna work out Source: My mother is a seamstress, trust me, do NOT mess with custom-made clothes. You have to think about different perspectives too, destroying an expensive handmade gown can have a severe impact on the designer. Its better for something to rot away in a closet forever than to be completely destroyed, making it unusable

Tyler literally got best rap album for Igor. He talked about how he was happy that his work was getting seen, but he felt like it was weirdly racist that they called him a rapper just because he was a black man who made a mixed genre album. Tyler isn’t a rapper anymore and has talked about how he hated doing rap but he though it was all he could make because of his voice. Now he creates experimental pop music and it seems like he’s just haunted by his past. He definitely deserves the award but I wish that he was seen as a mixed genre singer instead of a rapper
imagine being one of the organizers of the Oscars and thinking it's a good idea to get rid of the host. Like... this is the only thing tying the award show together at this point

When I was REALLY little, I used to think that the grammy's got voted on by the public. Then I found out, thats not the case at all. That's when award shows stopped being any kind of fun, especially when they never pick the good artists.

I can guarantee if the Oscars did public voting either a BTS music video, a UA-camr pushing a video or a 4chan Pepe far right animation would win every year.
I think another element worth noting that makes award shows persist is the need for spectacle. Specifically, celebrities want to show up in expensive outfits, feel prestigious, get some connections, then leave. It’s not even about the audience, the general public, anymore, I’m not sure it ever has been. I’m so sick of people with money telling me what I should like and care about. I’ve had more fulfilling conversations about film with online communities than I have ever seen on television. Additionally, UA-cam is where some of the best commentaries on current and past films/tv shows have been made. We’ve collectively outgrown award shows.
100% they should just privatize it. It's only about people in the industry it always has been and it should just be that way. Why should we care ? This is for their work not ours ? I love the bit about "awards show talk". I've always hated that weird sing-song, take turns delivering lines thing that they do. Its so sad seeing some actor who has given amazing performances reduced to some lame host reading weak lines from a teleprompter.
I remember some of my most loathsome experiences were from receiving awards. I think they are inherently uncomfortable. it's basically being forced to humble brag in public.
I think that the only award show that many actually enjoy watching is the Tony's. I can say as a theater kid that people still debate, talk about, and rewatch the Tony's. It just feels so much more natural and fun compare to the other award shows. The performances have become iconic and sometimes an inside joke with fandoms. Not to mention that the performances have made many people get into musicals. In general, the actors also seem like they're having fun. The tony's are just one of the only good award shows left, honestly.
We're all so sick of award shows because we know it's all fake. We know every award is bought and sold, nothing is based on actual merit. We're all tired of watching rich people pat each other on the back for being rich and prancing around in outfits that cost more than quadruple my rent, meanwhile way too many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. The level of pretentiousness in their distorted reality is sickening.
One specific thing that bothers me about the Oscars is the Animated Motion Picture category and how Disney wins almost every year. A few years ago someone anonymously asked some committee members what they voted for and a few of them said they hadn't bothered to watch all of the nominated movies, and some members just picked the movie their kid(s) liked best. One person even called 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' "some obscure freakin' Chinese fuckin' things that nobody ever saw". I think that tells you everything you need to know about how much the Oscar committee cares about movies and how much their opinions should be worth.
One thing that is extremely fucked with the Oscars is that the academy treats Soundtrack and Sound Mixing/Editing (whatever the category is called) as the same category, so you end up with a movie that has the best soundtrack, but not the best editing, winning both
@@FrenkTheJoy Yes, I know, I never said it wasn't But the academy awards both to the same movie extremely often, especially when they only ever look at the soundtrack and barely ever care about the way it's edited/mixed
the concept of sliming people at very fancy award shows is so so good to me, i cannot believe this concept never occurred to me -the nick choice awards really set the bar so high for me, the EGOTs cant ever come close
a cool aspect of the kids choice awards that i think is smart is that they let people do online voting, but untimely the decision is done by a panel of voters so you can avoid spamming swinging these awards while still feeling involved
this year’s Grammys were fantastic because the live performances had no audience and there was no downtime for clapping so they fit way more actual music into the show, and it was much, much better.

For me, it's hard to sit through 2-3 hours of rich privileged people patting each other on the back for a rigged contest while I'm struggling to make ends meet. It just doesn't feel good.
There are awards for people in many industries.
TLDR; I agree but award shows like these can hold my interest if it’s like an underdog type of story winning an award.

if we’re gonna slime award winners from now on, they are still required to wear their overpriced gowns and suits it’s not like they’re gonna wear em again anyway
Hahahaha..... good point. And most males don’t need anything fancy.
Oof true 😂
At least for the kids choice awards, the celebs there wear outfits that usually aren't that fancy because they know they're gonna get slimed, but for a prestigious event like the emmys or oscars, that ain't gonna work out
Source: My mother is a seamstress, trust me, do NOT mess with custom-made clothes. You have to think about different perspectives too, destroying an expensive handmade gown can have a severe impact on the designer. Its better for something to rot away in a closet forever than to be completely destroyed, making it unusable

One specific thing that bothers me about the Oscars is the Animated Motion Picture category and how Disney wins almost every year.
A few years ago someone anonymously asked some committee members what they voted for and a few of them said they hadn't bothered to watch all of the nominated movies, and some members just picked the movie their kid(s) liked best. One person even called 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' "some obscure freakin' Chinese fuckin' things that nobody ever saw". I think that tells you everything you need to know about how much the Oscar committee cares about movies and how much their opinions should be worth.
One thing that is extremely fucked with the Oscars is that the academy treats Soundtrack and Sound Mixing/Editing (whatever the category is called) as the same category, so you end up with a movie that has the best soundtrack, but not the best editing, winning both
But there's a separate Best Original Score category?

the kids choice award is the only award show that i unironically enjoyed. like yeaaa it was always cringey and very catered to kids (hmm wonder why) but they had actually entertaining performances and celebrities that most younger people actually knew, and to top it off, they were full on shooting celebrities in the FACE with slime
