Remember when envy killed Hughes he was using ross as his disguise when he first approached him
"He resigned from the military and moved out into the country" is probably a lie that gets told a lot in a military dictatorship like Amestris. It likely came automatically to Mustang's mind because that's what you're supposed to say whenever an officer inexplicably vanishes.
Episode 16 is really heartbreaking, but it does play the revelation very realistically. Everyone has to cope in their own ways. Mustang cannot let it go, and is wearing himself out to find any clue as to what really happened. Gracia puts on a brave face in front of others, but is still crying over the loss, and Elicia is still young enough that she has a hard time comprehending that her dad will never come home, which probably makes it harder on Gracia. All of it though reinforces the concept that you just have to keep moving forward. "You've got two good legs. So get up and use them. You're strong enough to make your own path." Super excited for the next little arc! (Which apparently you have already watched, and should be coming out next week?! Crazy excitement!) Even when the show hurts us, it is still so good.

This plot doesnt make sense for me...
Xing emperor want immortality and prince or princess need to provide it so then they will become crowned prince/ss, but if the emperor is immortal then they wont be ever ascend the throne right ? They just be sucessor of the throne right ?
It means Emperor will still rule however out of all the clans he will favour the clan which gave it immortality.
